I didn't stay at Harvey House but had made a reservation to stay there for a visit to Chicago…read more Very bad experience. First, they made me put a $350 deposit down and told me that if I did not cancel at the 2 weeks to go time point I would then be liable for the cost of my full stay if they did not fill the room. Then, I learned from reviews, and after my wife talked to the owner, that the "breakfast" part of the deal was not quite the B&B experience I'm used to. It's more like a continental set-up with like hot scrambled eggs. Not the home-cooked interesting breakfast items served by the house, different items each day. This was not disclosed to me when I called to make the reservation. Then, when I decided to cancel (mainly for those reasons), 3 weeks out from my date, the house withheld $50 of my $350. This was not disclosed to me when I called to make the reservation. The lady said it was on the "small print" of the email, and indeed it was. BAD PRACTICE! Maybe if you are a frequent visitor and you've enjoyed your stay, great. If you're coming from out of town and never went there, consider these practices. NOT GOOD.

When I asked about this at the front desk they said all the rooms are the same and it's due to chemical products used by the cleaning staff. Whatever they're using has a particularly noxious odor that feels like it's stabbing at your lungs, making it difficult to breathe. I woke up multiple times during the night just to open the front door and take some deep breaths of fresh air. It's terrible in this day and age that hotel owners don't realize how many people are chemically sensitive, may have breathing/respiratory issues, or just want to breathe fresh clean air instead of chemical stink. If you're odor-sensitive in any way you'll have an extremely rough time at this motel. I strongly advise finding another place.

Unclean, unsafe, unsanitary, absolutely unacceptable conditions. Spent $150 for a night. Got there…read morelate, was already running late for a concert, set out stuff down and immediately left for the concert. We come back at 3:30 am and discover the absolutely atrocity of a motel room we were expected to sleep in for the night. We had no time to book a new room and find a different hotel. Once we notified the man running the desk and asked for our money back we were told no, and that he didn't have authority to do so. I showed him the room and he had said it was "his fault he didn't check the room before we came in" this was not a one time mistake. This dust, dirt and grime was a build up overtime, not an "oops I forgot to wipe down a surface once." Black mold, mystery liquid marks on the ceiling and walls, 6 months worth of dust in the ac filter (not to mention the visible dust on the outside of it), dirty sheets, there wasn't even a fitted sheet on the bed only a top sheet, dirt hair and dried up food between the wall and the head of the bed, drool stains on pillows and pillow cases, dust & hair everywhere. I felt like I was staying in someone's personal bedroom, not a clean motel room. Fresh sheets and wiping down surfaces is the BARE MINIMUM expectation and yet there was an envelope from the cleaner in the room asking to "reward for their efforts" asking for a tip. Are you kidding me? What a joke. I should have dusted out the ac filter and left it in the envelope. I could have taken a bottle of windex and a rag and had that place clean in a matter of 10 minutes. It was actually pathetic how neglected this room was. Once we were leaving the parking lot the man came out to our car window and said he could refund me $50 and said to come back next time and he'd give me half off. HA! You really expect me to come stay there again after that? You could not PAY ME to stay in that place ever again. For $150 you could hire someone to detail clean every single room in that place. For that price you can get a nice room at the Hampton. Pathetic and unacceptable. Don't stay here.

As the summer season wrapped up on Labor Day weekend, I am so glad I found Thyme for Bed on bedandbreakfast.com when looking for getaways not-too-far from our Chicago home. Bill and Crystal are the new innkeepers at this unique and cozy B&B in the middle of cornfields and far enough away from the city lights that you feel like your in your own little bubbled respite. And when I say bubble, I mean literally, the giant concrete sphere makes that feeling a bit of a unbelievable reality. Upon arrival, Crystal gave us the grand tour of the one-of-a-kind dome, and we got the inside scoop on lots of details about the structure itself. And while we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Pheasant Room, we can't wait to go back to enjoy a stay in the Santa Fe-esque "In Your Dreams" Master Suite. The beautiful gem-walled walk-in shower power base bed, and huge jacuzzi was more than enough to convince us. :-) Of course, the down-to-earth hospitality of Bill and Crystal were the icing on the cake. We left feeling like a part of the family, and with bellies full of homemade yogurt parfait, delicious fresh peach topped french toast tartlet, and cinnamon scones lingering in our taste buds.

They stayed up until we arrived at 10pm and we chatted with the lovely couple for almost an hour after that- just about life! They were so friendly and easy to talk to, and if we had not been so tired we would have loved to continue talking to them over coffer. We learned a lot of interesting facts about the Dome and that it is the probably the safest place in case of any natural disaster or fire. Our stay was short (just one night) but we would love to come back just to have a more relaxing stay and enjoy the beautiful outdoors around the Dome as well. The room was certainly a fun design and everything was super clean. There was coffee, tea, water, and snacks at the ready right outside our room upstairs, available at any time. We had to wake up and leave pretty early (7AM) the next morning to catch our flight from Chicago and Bill & Crystal both woke up early to see us off. They also made us coffee and orange scones (which were delicious) for the road. We really appreciated their closeness and openness- definitely a must see place and a great B&B. We hope to be back! This is not necessarily a negative but there was ALOT of furniture everywhere. I can see some people not liking this because it does feel as if you are literally in someone else's home- but I thought it made it a little more authentic. The more you got to know the owners, the more fitting it felt.
