My niece had her wedding reception here last week. I think overall she had a good experience during the booking process with Kirk. Zander's House was accommodating for those of us who needed to come set up prior to the reception. As a guest, I thought the space was elegant and spacious. The food was catered by Zander's. There were a couple of dishes that were misses (bird's nest, Chinese broccoli) and some that were hits (Peking duck, grilled rib-eyes). Overall the multi course dinner was enjoyable. The restrooms could have been cleaner and needed an update. The wait staff were pretty efficient throughout the night. Overall I would recommend this venue for a wedding reception. read more

My fiance and I are foodies and decided to check out Zander's on our designated "date night". We try to pick a different place every week. I am Vietnamese so of course, I will be slightly picky. Appetizers: We ordered the Fresh Spring Rolls with Shrimp which are always (at every Viet restaurant I've been to) are skimpy. It was tasty. I didn't really care for the "crunchy" that they added inside (which isn't traditional) and they could have offered more meat inside like the traditional pork and shrimp. Most places have been known to cut one shrimp in half and make it look like it's two. The Beef Carpaccio was excellent!! The herbs, spices, and beef were prepared to perfection. I've had the "rare" beef version before and this one was actually slightly seared. We used the reserved sauce with our dinner. Dinner: The entrees we had were the Spicy Basil Beef, Salt and Pepper Calamari, and Mixed Greens. The calamari had a nice crisp and flavor to it. Spicy Basil Beef could have used a little more basil but it was still good. Mixed greens were my fave!!! It had bok choy, brocolli, peppers, and snap peas. Everything we ordered tasted great. The Jack Daniels on the rocks wasn't skimpy either, lol. Next time, we'll sit at the family-style table and have them bring us whatever that's off the menu-- off-the-menu items are always great! The only grip I would have is that they didn't offer Pho, Banh Xeo, or some other traditional Vietnamese dishes and the prices are a "tad" expensive. Update: just got back from Europe after having my wedding here 9/24. Honestly, Kirk the owner, is probably the best person to work with if you have a laid back personality. Ha he might stress you out if you want up to the minute updates, but everything is a go and he knows how to get things done. Working with Kirk was painless from my experience and he doesn't try and nickel and dime you or overcharge you like some other wedding vendors may. The prices here are fair and Kirk is an honest guy. Kirk also works well with the dj, bartender, and florist, decorators. Not sure he had anything to do with our overpriced wedding planner though, other than the planner running off with one of his keys, but I digress. We ran into a couple small issues on wedding day, one with seating, if you are Vietnamese or Asian in general, people always want to bring an extra body or disregard any seating charts, it took away some time from the wedding for me, but we were able to work it out. I guess I recommend just having 1 or 2 tables with two extra seats (i.e. If you have a 10 person, get a couple 12 person tables that are empty. You might waste $200ish but just less headache). Other small issue is the beer, probably needed to be communicated a little better on all parts, but my suggestion would be to hire a bartender and let him handle it all. I don't think my guests knew that the waiters had beer to serve and I don't think the servers conveyed that. I say either give it all to the bartender or just start with the beer and ice buckets at the table. Overall I'm super pleased with the way things turned out. I've been to 40+ weddings but it's not as fun when it's your own ha! Please give my man Kirk a call. I've been meaning to write a review for this place and am now getting around to it. I went to two weddings there this year, one in March, one in June. One wedding was about 425 or so, the other like 250. Now if you have not been to an Asian style wedding, this is one of the better options out there. The food was pretty good, I've had a great variety of food at these two weddings: 1) Peking, 2) cheese lobster, 3) rib eye, 4) fish, 5) fried rice, 6) shrimp paste, 7) crab asparagus soup, etc. all solid. But the venue on the outside looks a little ordinary but they drape and decorate it up to make it pretty on the inside. I liked it so much I convinced my fiancé to have our wedding here in September. Kirk, the owner, is easy to deal with and will work with you. He is giving us a great price point to accommodate our 375 guest or so. A couple of cool things about Asian style weddings and zanders in particular: multiple courses, Kirk provides you with free sodas, you are responsible for bringing your own water because the tap water is ok in Plano and Kirk is looking out for you, it's supply your own alcohol (so if you want open bar, you are going to sacs nearly $10k for this many guests. After throwing their wedding there, my sister and brother in law know the owners of this restaurant pretty well and we get treated absolutely great every time I've dinned here. It's best if you come here with a bunch of people because the best way to enjoy the food here is to do "family style". We usually order some items off the menu but the best of what we get include clam rice, calamari, crusted seabass (absolutely my FAVORITE dish), the ribs (i think there's a special on this during the weedays) and if they have it, the fried quail is TO DIE FOR, in fact, their deep fryer must be awesome because the wings are pretty good too (sooo crispy) This place is amazing. So, not only has it been too long since I've been to Zander's, but after my Ba Le debacle; I really needed my good Vietnamese fix. The Thai food I had last night did nothing to sate my appetite for SE Asian cuisine. So as we're leaving Targetmasters, wife brings up Zander's. I figure it's only about 20min drive so why not, right? The service here is homie as ever, I completely dig how well we are treated (pretty much like family guests), it's not the fastest but its over the top friendly and engaging. I'm sure I'm spoiled but so what!!?? I ask if anyone wants an appetizer and its pretty much a no, but Minh mentions their spare ribs... OH YES!! Succulent, tender, delicious!! You must, must have these if you go... MUST I say! Fried rice, chicken wings, 2 orders of Basil Beef (heavenly) for the table and a couple Singha's for Daddy. Perfect, perfect, perfect. Did I mention perfect? Everyone was extremely happy with their late lunch, Momma and I finished off our Basil Beef, wings almost gone and fried rice munched on too. I'm STUFFED and very happy about it... I don't know that I'll be having dinner but it is so worth it. I'm not a regular in a Vietnamese restaurant, but I quickly found dishes that I considered a safe try. For an appetizer we ordered the lemon shrimp (6) pieces. It is a tempura style shrimp with a light lemon drizzle. Next we ordered a couple of main dishes to share. The chicken curry with white rice was delicious and the beef with noodles was ok. I really wrestled with the decision to go 3-star or 4-star here. The wife and I just got back from Zander's and I am not sure it is worth the hype. Started out with the shrimp/mushroom crepe appetizer (the bill called it Banh Cuon). Interesting basily flavors but difficult to manipulate in order to eat. Reminded me of a very flat, slippery kreplach. The waiter helpfully advised using the spoon on this one, but the serving plate was flat, full of a thin fish sauce and hard to work with. A deeper bowl would have given a useful edge to trap the crepes against, making it easier to pick up. Dear Wife had a pork hot pot, which was tasty in an unexpected way. I love black pepper and this seemed to be the backbone flavor of her dish. I had the salted fish fried rice even though the waiter seemed to be steering me away from it. It was good, although not world-beating like the rice I recently had at Noodle Wave. Decent jasmine tea. Finished off with red been ice cream that had a delicate, enjoyable honeydew undertone. So why 3 stars? They played horrible disco music the whole time. And the server's banter was overly personal and borderline inappropriate; more sensitive folks might have been offended but I tend to let that kind of thing go. This happened several times, and he acted that way with other tables. He probably thinks it's a cute schtick, but it's not. When we were ready to order (already had an appetizer on the table) he spent the next 10mins making small talk with the very next table. We polished off the crepes and had a couple of good conversations while waiting for him to finish with our neighbors. They, by the way, were the only other table occupied at that time. Two tables in play and the waiter keeps one of the tables waiting for 10mins before they can order. More about the other table: the fellow sitting there was producing the most rapid, clacking, and constant mouthsmacking eating noises I have ever heard. It was so exaggerated that I actually broke into gigglefits a couple of times. How can someone smack that long, that consistently (one smack every 2/3rd second or so), that loudly... I grew up on a farm and I do not exaggerate when I tell you that barnyard animals do not make that much noise when they eat. I think he was slapping his tongue off the roof of his mouth with every jaw movement. We cheered quietly when we heard him ask for a doggie bag. I forgot my phone, but if I had it I would have recorded some of this smacking and uploaded it somewhere for your amazement/pleasure/disbelief. Took the family out for dinner tonight, we had... Zander's Hot Wings / Cánh Gà Chiên Nuoc Mam, great, crunchy, sweet, some spicy, and did not get soft over the course of dinner. Sea Bass costs three times as much as normal dishes but is definitely their best dish. Wonderful crunch and flavor. Sure tasted three times better than the rest. Comes with Jasmine rice, thanks goodness because I hate cheap rice. Predominant flavor here is Vietnamese fish sauce, so if you do not like fish sauce then it is not for you. And if you have never tried it, take a bite(leap?) of faith...may be glad you did. Basil Beef / Bò Xào Lá Que, it was ok, we had built up too much expectations and so it missed the target. Not that spicy as one would like. Seafood Seaweed Soup / Súp Bách Niên Gia Lao, excellent, may look odd at first due to the hair thin noodles in it, but the taste should make that impression a distant memory. Beef Carpacci / Bò Tái Chanh, good, my parents were loving it. For an appetizer, it tastes better than the Basil Beef in my opinion. Caramel Flan / Café Flan, excellent, this is not the cheapo powder-in-a-box flan with high fructose corn syrup drenching it like you would find at Bistro Bleh ... I got real egg yolk and caramel. Coffee taste could be stronger, but that's just personal preference. ...definitely coming here again to try the rest of the menu. Some of those vegie dishes they brought by to the other tables smelled delicious. I can't believe I've never written a review for my favorite lunch spot. They serve dinner too, but it's near work, not home so that's a rare occasion when we go for dinner. Where do I begin. The menu is large so I can't say I've tried everything, but I've probably had or sampled 80% of it. It's all good, it just depends on what you're in the mood for. Ribs, Pho, Fried Rice, Curry, Sea Bass, Salad, Chicken Wings, Game Hen, Beef Carpacio, Salmon... Combinations of all of the above. :) Seriously, if you want to try one rib, they'll add that to your entree. They have a passion for the food they serve and they want to share it with you. Many times I've asked them to recommend something and I'm never sorry. The dinner menu items are more expensive (the fried sea bass!) but you can get out for under $10 at lunch easily. This is an amazing restaurant. From the outside, it looks unimpressive as it doesn't really have anything to catch the eye as you cruise by on 75. Also, the name kind of threw me off when my friend mentioned we should try it. He said it was Vietnamese, and I was wondering where "Pho" was in the restaurant's name. However. This is hands down the best Vietnamese restaurant I've been to, and since I've started dating a Viet girl 6 months ago, I've had to "suffer" through countless bowls of delicious pho and crushed endless plates of spring rolls :) The service here is 110% better than anything I've experienced at another Vietnamese restaurant. The restaurant is owned and operated by a family who moved down from New York, and they are really cool. I'm not going to share what I get because I order it off the menu (the fact that you can do that, it's so legit), and I don't want the chef to get tired of making the dish on special request ^_^ But it doesn't matter really, everything you'll eat there is ridiculously good. If you don't try this place, then you shouldn't say you know anything about great Vietnamese restaurants. read more

There are several things that make Zander's a great establishment, but what I love most is the character. The wait staff is ready for a joke and there is nothing bland about a meal at Zander's. BTW, if you're looking for a good first date kind of place, this is perfect. You can show off your asian food ordering skills and the friendly, relaxed style of the wait staff helps to defuse some tension. It is a family run restaurant and I think that comfort comes across in how they treat their customers. Its a huge place complete with dance floor, so don't be worried when you stop by and its not full. I don't think I've ever been there when they were full. This makes it great for dinner out on Saturday and Friday. They serve what I call, 'white tablecloth' Vietnamese, not your typical Pho place. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever seen anyone get the Pho. I have found the best way to order is to just ask the waiter what is good today. He always has something new and interesting to try. I have loved pretty much everything. My two favorites though are the Beef Carpaccio appetizer (medium rare beef served as part of a sort of salad with Ginger, Lime and peanuts, etc) and Zander's Beef (perfectly seasoned and cooked small cuts of steak served with toast). I was even very impressed with their simple chicken fried rice. Don't forget to finish with the banana pudding dessert. Its a warm, coconut milk based pudding with tapioca and banana. yum. They are closed Tuesday and occasionally for special events, oddly enough, I always want it on Tuesday. They also have started having live music occasionally, check the website. Went to a Vietnamese wedding here. Nothing is spectacular about the exterior but once you walk in the decoration for the wedding was very shocking! It was set up beautifully! They used large curtain like drapes to square off the reception area. This totally made the space look/feel a lot fancier/elegant than it really was. Now for the food...very mediocre...even compared to other Vietnamese restaurant weddings. There was nothing special about any of the dishes and this also showed in the taste, flavor, and presentation. Idk where they store their wayer bottles but my fiancé and I tried to drink it straight from the bottle and it had this really gross and unsettling taste...we determined it was from the bottle itself...seems kinda unsafe if you ask me... Overall, besides the layout and decoration of the reception area, this is just another Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant; a far one at that! Great food, nice staff, we'll be back. Zander's is family owned & run, and it shows. Started w/ the Pork Spring Rolls (not fried) w/ glass noodles, cucumber, cilantro & peanut dipping sauce. Our server suggested putting a little hot sauce w/ them for a little fun. Shaken beef was very good- quality of the beef was like a real steak, not like beef stew meat... Lemongrass string beans & bean curd was great- texture & flavor of the tofu was very nice- great ginger flavor in the onions. Enjoyed my hot tea w/ dinner. We had constant attention from at least 3 different servers (later found out that they were all family & related). Very nice night- lots of leftovers to eat tomorrow. Went here for lunch today. I'd say it's a 3.75. The food was excellent; everything else was OK. I have lots to write about because this place is quite interesting. It was my birthday weekend (birthday is on weds) so i thought i'd treat myself and Rachel to pho for lunch. She's taking me to dinner later (steve fields)! Wahoo! Rachel hasn't ever had Pho and had no idea what to expect. I wasn't totally sure either. I had it one other time. Ambiance: We arrived and the place is such a mysterious restaurant. It's facade needs a little love and care. The entrance needs some gardening work done. The outside of the restaurant is a bit unkempt. A Beer bottle just laying around and half grown vegetables in their planters. The doors reveal a 90's type oriental design work. Reminiscent of lots of Asian kitchens. On the inside, there are lots of open space. The first thing you see is rather large stage like the website had indicated; live entertainment. But now, they stopped having live entertainment. The layout is quirky; but open at least. The walls had interesting and really random artworks. The restaurant is very big and large on the inside. There's a middle area where there is a stage and sun comes through their semi-opaque ceiling. There's also a bar along the far left side (from facing the entrance) The stage is interesting. There are dirty curtains on the stage and they're all cut to the wrong height. Fountains in the middle where there's a pit for the performers to perform. Two fountains that stop running ages ago. The floors were dirty and there's convenient sign indicating: "Please don't let your children run around". Aw shucks! I wanted to run around their middle area. As we arrive i felt more comfortable with our selection. Rachel was the only white person there; thus confirming my feeling that; we're going to get amazing food. There were large clans of Asian families as we arrive chatting things i cannot understand; because i'm Chinese. Service: Well, It's just alright. The food was delivered pretty quick. Two out of the 3 waitstaff personnel were friendly. Rachel was really unhappy that when we finished lunch they gave us a container but they didn't pour it for us. She spilled and got it on her pants. I just saw it as that they're Asian. And Asian food isn't known for sterling customer service. Oh and they have two menus. But there's a lunch menu and a "family menu" apparently. The family menu i think has family style entrees. We opted for the other single serving one. Food: Luckily, the food is the redeeming factor here. She ordered the grilled beef and egg noodle soup (#16). I ordered the seafood and vegetable mix (#12). The description wasn't that assuring. So i asked the waitress. The "Seafood mix" is shrimp, calamari, and fried. After hearing that it sounded awesome! Because i'm Asian and i LOVE to eat a whole sea of seafood in delicious broth. Oh and we ordered the fried pork spring rolls. The spring rolls arrive and it was culturally different from my people's food. They give you two large romaine lettuce and two sprigs of mint leaves along with some hot sauce and this sweet light orange sauce. You roll the rolls in the lettuce and you add the mint leaves and hot sauce. I did it and it was surprisingly refreshing. It was hot, minty, really crispy and tasted fresh from the romaine. The spice and the mint reminded me of toothpaste though. lol. Anyway, the fried pork was heavenly. The hot sauce (bottle without the seeds) had a sweet flavor to it and it was a "after-punch" hot sauce. It kicks you after you taste the sweetness. Onto our soups / Pho. Rachel's grilled beef was awesome. It was sweet, smoky and cut into these bite size 3/8 inch pieces. You can see the beautiful sexy grill marks. The egg noodles are very tasty and salty. The bowl was very huge. Rachel barely made a dent in her pho. The broth is very dark and delicious. The beautiful globules of fat just sing and dance all around the bowl as you dig into what could be an elephant's water dish. My soup was also delicious. The first bite is awesome. You get a really strong cilantro flavor (which i've grown to love; but used to gag at it when littler). This is the perfect soup for me. I love fresh vegetables and seafood. I just wanted to swim in this bowl. Overall: I'd go at it again once i try some other Vietnamese places. They seem to have lots of interesting dishes! The whole lunch was an awesome value as well. ZH has the best vietnamese food I have ever had. the pros 1. We almost always get the fried spring rolls (filled with crab and veggies, they are so flavorful), vermicelli beef bowl with spring rolls (such a great balance of sweet, spicy, savory, and fresh (the lime and mint help with the freshness)), and chicken fried rice. Their rice is so subtle in flavor, but is incredibly good. Last time we went I had the clam fried rice, which isnt on their menu (you have to ask for it). I was warned, and it is very spicy, but it is so good and different than any other fried rice I have ever had. 2. I think the service is very good. We have been coming for so long that they know what we order every time. The service is sometimes a little slow, but they are very friendly. The love to recommend new dishes for you to try. 3. Their amuse bouche. The weird thing is that you dont consistenly get amuses. During the spring and summer, it is normally a very simple lettuce with thin carrot slices and a nice vinaigrette. The fall and winter amuse is usually a very spicy and flavorable soup, which is loaded with bean sprouts and tofu. I usually do not like the texture of tofu, but this soup is so hot that the tofu is this little silky cube of goodness. I love this soup! the cons 1. The space is huge and open, and is rarely crowded. Thats good, in that you can get right it. Its bad for atmosphere, though. If this was a small, intimate place, I would like it more. 2. It's almost like a hole-in-the-wall place except it's huge and right on 75 and I pass by it like everyday... But it always looks either closed or open and nobody goes. In fact when I went at 6:30 on a Sunday, there were 2 cars outside besides ours. Inside at first it was a bit sketchy with so many tables and nobody in there. A big dance floor right smack in the middle. I guess they probably make a lot of their revenue from weddings? In any case, the food was surprisingly pretty good; portions were huge for $10-15. My parents came to visit me for Father's Day Weekend/Week...and Father's Day dinner was a SUCCESS! For appetizers, we had Beef Carpaccio cooked with Lime (Vietnamese Style/Bo Tai Chanh) and Ninh Hoa Style Grill Pork Spring Rolls (Nem Nuong Ninh Hoa). Both were delicious! However, the sauce for the Spring Rolls could have been a little more salty. It would have been better if it was less concentrated. For the dinner itself, we had Hot & Sour Fish Soup (Canh Chua Ca), Pepper-Salted Fried Calamarii (Muc Rang Muoi), Lemongrass Chicken (Ga Xao Sa Ot), and Fried Sea Bass in a Chilli Lime Fish Sauce (Ca Chien Nuoc Mam Chanh). Everything we ordered pretty much got a 10 out of 10...except the Lemongrass chicken. That was a little bland for us because we were getting used to all the big flavors in all the other dishes, the chicken just seemed to mediocre. The Hot & Sour Fish Soup was made more in a Thai style than the traditional Vietnamese way. There was a specific ingredient in the soup we all didn't recognize, but it was really good. It was kind of chewy like squid, but more tender and cut in long strips. It most likely was a foreign vegetable, I'm guessing. First time here and we will definitely be back! The woman who took our order immediately asked us how adventurous we were. Good way to start off a new food experience. She recommended (and we willingly followed) the Grilled Pork Skewer appetizer. What a fun appetizer! Great excuse to use your hands and construct your own fresh rolls. It comes with pork but you can get it with chicken or beef. Their fresh made red chili sauce is intense but a perfect addition to the dipping sauce it comes with. Needless to say, it was promptly inhaled. For entrees we got Zander's BBQ Beef and the Chicken Curry. Both were excellent but the beef was pretty friggin' amazing. That chili sauce came in handy with the beef, too. Something in the beef marinade/sauce is made of magic. This all turned out to be a tremendous amount of food. Two reasonable adults could easily be satisfied with an appetizer and one entree. But why skimp, really? I'm looking forward to lunch leftovers tomorrow! Things we learned at Zander's House tonight: drinking hot water really puts the red chili fire out in your mouth and Thursdays are rib special days. I think it's $1 per rib. Went to a wedding here on 5/3 (It's not shut down, FYI). The place looked amazing inside, like a fairytale. The waitstaff was on their game, delivering drinks and food with the upmost quickness to all the tables (the wedding party was extremely large). I had never experienced Vietnamese food and I'll tell you that it was delicious! I don't know the operating hours, but I know it's select hours due to events...you may want to call before arriving for lunch. read more

This is a great Vietnamese restaurant and currently our default choice for Vietnamese locally. Ambience: it's very interesting. Dance floor and stage, bar, and tables on decks with hanging fabric, and some hip posters/paintings. Overall, hip without quite being tragically hip. It is a large open area, so even when the place is busy, it doesn't seem like it. We usually go for lunch and we find it hard not to get the grilled pork on vermicelli and soft-sided shrimp rolls (I think they don't actually have them on the menu, but basically order their chicken rolls with shrimp). We love both of them. We have also tried their curry, Flank Steak Beef Noodle Soup (Ph Tái) and the other night I tried a very interesting Mango Beef, which was strange but very good. I finally stopped by on a Thursday night, when they have live blues and it was great. Their happy hour specials are great and their well drinks actually have a decent amount of alcohol in them in spite of their bargain price. Caveat: the restaurant is owned by a family and my wife and I have been eating here for a while, so we expect to see a kid or two running around at lunch time, to include the child after whom the restaurant is named. You can get out of here for under $10 apiece for lunch, but at dinner you are probably going to be spending at least $15-20 each. read more

So far I always like this place. Really a beautiful place. Lunch is cheap free soup for lunch hot and sour... The best I have ever had. Nice guy owns the place as well. Curry is worth a try for lunch 6 bucks will buy you more than you can eat! Awesome! read more

A week after our wedding and we finally have the time to sit down and write a review for the venue we chose for our wedding! Our decision for choosing Zander's House in Plano first came about after attending a friends wedding there a year prior. Our first experience back to the venue after renovation was great. Food was good, atmosphere was comfortable, and location was great for our friends and family. All of our meetings were with the owner of the venue, Kirk. From day one, he was very informative and helpful. Kirk suggested a list of vendors who he recommended which helped us tremendously in narrowing down our options. His breakdown was easy to understand and prices were somewhat reasonable in today's economy. In the months leading up to our wedding date, like any couple, we had many questions and concerns. Great part was that Kirk was very easy to contact and he was accommodating and willing to work around our schedule for all appointments. We were lucky the venue had no event the day prior to our wedding so he gave our vendors time to set up what they needed. Myself included, was so glad for his opportunity bc I had to set up my things as well! The staff was helpful and super friendly. Come the day of our wedding, the venue delivered great service. Food came out at the time we requested and the feedback we received from guests about the taste were almost all positive. Stumbled on this gem. Highly recommend the ribs which are tender and not too over sauced. We also ordered the lemon grass tofu which was decent. The mango catfish leaves a odd stinky tofu taste in your mouth. Overall worth a visit if you're in Dallas. read more

This is my uncle's favorite lunch spot, so every time our families go out for lunch, we always hit up Zander's House. We pretty much order the same thing every time. The two dishes that stood out the most to me: -their calamari -their spare ribs. My mouth is literally watering thinking about those two bad boys. Their calamari is just the right amount of batter and squid. They're fried to a crisp perfection and the flavor (especially the salt because I'm huge on savory foods) of each bite is like heaven in my mouth. I love the flavoring on their spare ribs because it's not overbearing. Ribs are tender and when you bite into it, the meat falls perfectly off the bone and into your anxious mouth. Don't know why I waited so long to try here - likely due o the lack of cars for such a large place - but don't let that bug you - this place rocks. Went in last Saturday night - probably 30 people there. If this is your first time, tell them and thy will make some recommendations. One of those - the lemon shrimp on the appetizer menu was not something I would order again though - the sauce was what I would expect on a dessert. The 3 other things we ordered (most items you can order in a small/large size - and the small is more medium) was great. The salt/pepper squid stayed crispy the whole meal, the ginger chicken was perfectly balanced, and the beef dish was not tough. Zander's House has definitely stepped up their game in terms of food. The last time I went there, the food wasn't that special. But this time for my cousin's wedding, I was thoroughly impressed with their service and food. I think my cousin asked to have a table of food prepared for the bridesmaids, groomsmen, bride, and groom before the actual reception, and they efficiently made enough food to feed us and more and set up a proper makeshift table for us to sit at. The venue was clean, the staff was nice, and the whole place was just accommodating. I am very impressed with the place and I hope they can continue to impress many others. This is my absolute favorite restaurant in the Plano area. Do not let the decor dissuade you from eating at Zander's. Some of the best items on the menu include the red snapper, salt n pepper shrimp, shakin beef, and the ribs. Zander's house looks quite amazing, though I ate a very late lunch there so it was mostly empty. They were kind enough to serve me even though i walked in at 2:45 and they stop lunch service at 3PM. It appeared to be a bit more authentically Vietnamese than some other local places, at least from the looks of the menu. I wasn't feeling adventurous so I got the chicken yellow curry. Despite the time my rice was fresh and the curry nicely thick but not "sitting in a pot all day" looking. They also continue the local custom of serving Thai Ice Tea at Vietnamese places, which I approve of. They also have Vietnamese Ice Coffee if you're into that. Great service only because we were the only one at the restaurant. We ate around 4 pm before we head back to Oklahoma City. Why did we go here? It was near our hotel. And heard from a friend to try the food here. The food was good. Order: Fried Catfish with mango, jalapenos, and cilantro- Not bad at all. It is not a typical Vietnamese dish but would order it the next time. Fried Noodles with Shrimp- Tasted great. The mixed vegetables and shrimp went well with the dish. The pricing is overpriced comparing to the authentic Vietnamese food. But I would return if was in this area. Don't let that stop you. read more

I have been here awhile back and the food was great. But i kelp forgetting about it, so i never came back. A friend invited me to join him along with his crew to a wedding last night. I've never been to an Asian wedding or met anyone here in Texas since I've lived here. It's really cool i get to meet these people. They shut a whole place down for a wedding. The lay out of this place is a little bit odd for a wedding. The stage in the middle separated the two dining area. Kind of like east and west side of the continents. So you wouldn't have any idea who is on the other side of the room. Almost like everyone had their own group of party and doesn't feels like a wedding in there. If you like to create an atmosphere of east and west wedding feel. You would like Zander's House. As for the food, everyone thought their soup is sweet. I almost thought it was dessert that came out first. We all wait for awhile before the food get to the table. We had fried fish, fried calamari, fried rice, fried stuff chicken, fried chop up lobster tails, and they all fried with different flavor sauce. I like their beef in lime juice, i would go back for that. They have one veggie plate and it was Gai lan in garlic sauce. A real simple wedding and real simple food. Wow, who knew this place can be so good! Spacious, has a nice looking bar, dance floor, service is sketchy, food is flavorful with a great selection of fine Vietnamese cuisine plus some that you didn't expect to be in a Vietnamese restaurant. The presentation of the dishes looks wonderful. Great place to hold parties and events. Interior is not bad looking. I've been to many Vietnamese restaurants and I'm used to all the traditional foods that they provide, but at Zanders, they spice it up a bit. Whether it's with the presentation of the dishes or with the overall atmosphere, you can't go wrong with this place. Various events are held there throughout the week. I went on a Thursday and there was a live jazz band playing. Live jazz band at a Vietnamese restaurant, that's new. Quick thing about service. Service here is like at any Asian restaurants, it's very inconsistent. Sometimes, your waiter/waitress will disappear and you'll end up ordering or calling on someone else. The only consistent thing is the water guy. You'll get your water filled, so don't worry. Their desserts is so-so. That's all I'll say about that. Lastly, you have got to try the fried fish there.
