Lunch with the girls was great! Had the hummus and pimento cheese for a starter and I could have made it my meal! We all had different sandwiches so we could try a variety. I was slightly disappointed in my fried tomato sandwich - I am fairly certain the "arugula" on my sandwich was spinach and the "mascarpone" was goat cheese. I really love arugula and am not a huge fan if goat cheese, hence the disappointment. The ham and cheese was delicious and the Italian sandwich was my girls favorite! Dessert was the bananas foster. The best restaurant in Rockwall. I'm from Dallas and I have been to many great spots. This is on par! Amazing cherry sea bass. Great pizza. Wonderful cheese plate. Amazing atmosphere. Fancy food without fancy dress or snobby vibe. The only downfall is that it's so noisy! Noisy and had televisions. You'd think for a gourmet spot they'd focus on those things...and maybe not have sports on tv or any tv for that matter. The wait staff is very good / attentive and friendly. Very poor parking but that's not their fault. I've regretted moving here many times but the food at Zanata makes it almost worth it. read more

I go to Zanatas 2-3 times a week. I've never had a average meal. Everything has been great. The spinach salad is my all time favorite from any restaurant. They're pizza is also great. Went on a Sunday night for dinner at the suggestion of our friends. I cannot say enough good things. We got mussels, bruschetta, and the 50/50 meatballs as appetizers and each was more delicious than the last. We had the San Jacinto pizza for our entree and it was absolutely perfect- some of the best crust I've ever eaten. We got dessert to-go since we were so full and the tiramisu was divine. Our waitress was exceptionally attentive and our service was top notch, plus the space was beautiful. Such a great experience. We will definitely be back! read more

We kept hearing about how awesome this place was and we thought we would give it a try and make the drive to Rockwall. I must say it was totally worth it. The food was AMAZING. Everyone had told us you have to get the blue crab dip- that is not something we would normally order. But again we listened to others advice and it did not disappoint. It was like a fondue with crab in it. Eddie was our waiter and was excellent and helped up make choices with his recommendations. He recommended the flatbread with the dip instead of what came with it and it was wonderful. Had the Spiked Happy Hour pizza and everything was so fresh and delicious. And since everything had been so very good we thought we would splurge and get dessert. We chose the bananas foster and again- phenomenal! We spoke with Curtis- one of the family members who own the restaurant and you could see how much pride he has in the place and was so happy to see us truly enjoy the food. For all the hype, I don't know what makes this place so good. I was expecting a little fancier place inside. It looked really fun and cute on the outside! The restaurant definitely needs some wall noise barriers about ear height it was very noisy., and maybe some music. We went for lunch. For our first visit, we ordered the Bruschetta. I was expecting small pieces of toast, but it was served on large slices of bread / like a half sandwich (too much for 2 people). The cheese toppings were delicious, but the toast was burnt black on the edges. We waited 45 minutes after the appetizer arrived for our lunch entrees - 1/2 sandwiches with tomato basil soup. It was a LONG wait. The soup was delicious. I enjoyed the Tuscan chicken salad sandwich, others enjoyed the ham and cheese sandwich, and BLTA sandwich. Possibly had we ordered pizza I would have liked it more. Overall....it was just ok. To make it a better experience, I'd work on the kitchen speed (supposedly there was only one cook today), and 1-1/2 hrs to eat lunch is excessive! We have gone a few times now and its not bad at all. We usually get soup and pizza and the soup is really good but the pizza is greasy and oily most times. Service is great and the people are great. Wait can be long during peak hours but the local shops can assist with waiting. The inside looks fantastic and I enjoy going. I would recommend to friends and return. read more

I cannot talk enough about the glory that is Zanata. The fact that we, in tiny Rockwall, are blessed with such a bastion of glorious, glorious food is a sure sign of intelligent design. I've been here far more than I've checked in and never been disappointed. The last two times I went i had the ribeye. This cut of steak challenges event the best steakhouses in North Texas. Perfectly charred, beautiful on the inside and served with an amazing balsamic/pesto sauce over roasted potatoes and red peppers. Word don't do it justice. The pizza is fantastic as well. Ideal thin crust and incredibly fresh, local toppings. I love the local names as well - a true tip of the hat to the local community. There are just a couple shortfalls I've noticed that I'll mention. One of these is pasta dishes - everything they cook is in the wood burning oven and temperature is notoriously hard to control in there. Our first trip my wife got a manicotti dish. The flavors were amazing (sage, goat cheese, pumpkin) but the pasta itself was dried in some areas where it overcooked. 10/10 on planning, 3/10 on execution. The second problem was dessert. We got a banana pudding but you could FEEL the sugar granules in the pudding. On top of that is insanely sweet. Why does this not seem to affect my rating? Well, for one I'd give this place SIX stars if I could but secondly it can easily be worked around. Everything else they do is so good, why bother dwelling on something you don't have to order. If they were an Italian place and we got a pasta dish like that, it would be another story however Zanata specializes in oven roasting and pizza and no one does that any better! read more

We ate here last year on a trip from central Arkansas to San Antonio. We've talked about getting back here for a year! Tonight, we finally did and were sorely disappointed. A restaurant is only as good as its weakest dish served on a mundane night. If this is true, Zanata needs to tighten up, quick. Ordered the pork chop with truffle Mac And cheese. We had had the steak previously but wanted to try something new. The pork was a miss. The Mac and cheese was cold. As in, not heated all the way through after removal from the fridge. My husband ordered the chicken with Gorgonzola risotto. The chicken was definitely reheated. He enjoyed the dish but would not recommend. Overall, the wait staff was good and the atmosphere was too. The food however, was a bitter disappointment. We'll try a different restaurant the next time we're in Rockwall. read more

Their pizza, baked in a traditional wood fired pizza oven, is delicious and their entrees are all highly creative and refined with complex flavors that pair together beautifully.
