In the heart of Brooklyn, you'll find an intimate Pilates studio with small class sizes -- a place where the classically trained instructors are focused on each of their students. It's also the only studio in NYC lucky enough to have a TPC-licensed teacher trainer. We call this place Zalla Pilates, and we're here to teach your body a new language. What we mean by that is our classes promote whole body health and wellness, similar to physical therapy. We're empathetic to your body's needs and will never push you past your natural limits. Instead, we'll encourage proper posture, alignment, and circulation with the dynamic movements of our machines. Exercise here is a personal experience full of fun, inspiration, and, most importantly, results. So come as you are, meet your future friends, and let us get to know you so you can grow happier, healthier, and stronger.
History
Established in 2008.
After teaching for many years in both Manhattan and Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Jessie Zalla started Zalla Pilates out of her loft home in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. There she cultivated a clientele that is still by her side today.
In 2012 Jessie moved the business to 37 Greenpoint Ave's famous old Pencil Factory building. Today, Zalla Pilates consists of 5 highly trained and educated Pilates teachers, 2 high energy Barre Class teachers and an elegant space full of high quality Pilates equipment ready to fulfill the needs every body.
Meet the Business Owner: Jessie Z.
Jessie Zalla is a movement teacher who has taught Pilates, Anatomy, Dance, and Yoga for over 18 years. Her style of teaching draws from a deep knowledge and practice of anatomy, her experience as a professional dancer, her intuitive eye and her open communication with her students.
An hour with Jessie could include a sweaty, old-school "classical" Pilates class; a subtle deep breathing lesson to connect the body before a standing barre warm up, or even a rollicking physio ball workout. Whatever the movement, her consistent emphasis on correct alignment challenges all of her students to continuously learn and focus.
For Jessie, Pilates is as much about a new self-awareness as it is about movement and exercise. Jessie cultivates in her students the ability to perceive, identify, and direct their own bodies with precision, subtlety and grace.
