However, to be transparent- I didn't end up getting an exam or glasses here - long story short, I showed up without first reading or responding to emails I was sent before my appointment (that clarified pricing) and once I was told the full price I would be charged, I got upset and left. I thought I had gotten the ol'' bait and switch. Turns out, I did not. The owner was gracious and later responded to my accusations with class and then provided evidence of my incompetence. Dr. Danielle Richardson is my optometrist and she IS the MOST AMAZING!! Nothing but great things to say. She cares. She makes conversation and she is really helpful. I have been seeing her since August 2021. This was my 3rd annual visit and I am grateful. I was searching for a black eye doctor and ZocDoc recommended Dr. Danielle Richardson. She's young just like me so that made me even more excited to stop by. I am in the valley and drive all the way to the Fairfax District so you knoooooowww I am serious about my doctor appointment, plus its once a year and it's by my church so it's a one stop shop lol. Gee and Savannah who work in the front are super kind as well. I forgot the office manager's name but she's green as well. They are so knowledgeable and so welcoming and warm. The whole team rocks. You can purchase your eyewear there and choose from variety of designers and options. The city moved the outdoor dining from the sidewalk so there's metered Parking right in front of the shop, if you're lucky. But there's also ample street parking around the corner, read the signs carefully because I believe it's 2 hours intervals. I took the exam and paid for the lenses on 7/30, but I didn't receive any confirmation or a copy of the result as requested until I called ten days later, on 8/9. They don't give you any updates even if the order is delayed; I called several times and finally got my glasses back on August 21st (today). As soon as I got under the sunlight, I noticed some internal marks I couldn't feel on each side of the surface. Like how did they not see it? They either don't have any quality control or simply don't offer transparency and hope clients don't catch the defects on the products. There is great new multi-focal tech available in 1-Day disposable contact lenses than existed even just a couple years ago. Goal achieved! Acted confused about a product they sell. I brought in Jacques Marie Mage, that I bought here. I wanted them to replace a screw. They don't have the tools to adjust them even though they offer free adjustments to products bought there. So instead they used an inauthentic replacement screw and gave me the real one in a gift bag. I would suggest going to REAL Jacques Marie Mage store, and a legitimate designer eyewear retailer. Not a great experience. As I was leaving staff even told me to put my chair away that they got out for me. Yes! Zak is fantastic, and I expect them to have a very bright future! They opened about a month ago, and I am so happy a friend recommended them to me. The store itself is gorgeous: super clean, modern, and welcoming. The staff couldn't possibly be any nicer, and the customer service, especially from Bryan was fantastic. They responded to my emails right away, helped me place my order, and had my glasses ready in a week. My astigmatism is very hard to fit, and they did a fantastic job making sure to do it perfectly. I love my glasses, which I splurged a bit on to get transition lenses on, but even so, they were still far cheaper than what I've paid for my lenses at other places. What an amazing experience here! Found Zak through my insurance website and thought the spot looked nice / had good yelp reviews so I came to get my annual eye exam. As soon as I entered, I was received with so much warmth and kindness by both people at the front (Veronica and G I believe). I didn't have to wait long at all to see Dr. Richardson (they actually got me in same day!) and she was phenomenal. She was extremely thorough, professional, and I did not feel rushed at all (which as a fellow provider, sometimes that can be tough to achieve). In addition, this was the most comprehensive eye exam I've ever had. When we were finished, G walked me through my insurance plan and potential out-of-pocket costs for their glasses. Everything is curated by the owner with many unique frames in-store. The prices were $125 for their store-brand (Zak brand) frames, which were all quite nice. The other frames were pricier ~$400-700 per frame but G went through each designer with me and explained why they were chosen by the owner. Again, super thorough. I wish I could hire G to work in my own practice :) At no point did I feel pushed toward any purchase or add-on service. I ended up spending an hour in the store total and paid only $10 out of pocket with my insurance for the very comprehensive eye exam, and G took note of the frames I liked and kept them in my file in case I do choose to make the purchase. You absolutely cannot go wrong receiving your eye care here. I would give them more than 5 stars if I could and I swear nobody is paying me for this review! read more

Zak is AWESOME. So, a little backstory. I, like many people these days, spend my days at a computer screen - and of course phone screen. At the end of the day my eyes were blotshot, my contacts were dry and my head was pounding. Blue light blocking lenses for a glasses? Yes please! I called around and found that many places charged upwards of $100-$150 for these lenses. Enter Zak. They are $50 which is great! What else is great? The staff. Holy freaking hell. Who are these people? They're cool, they're fun, they're hip, they're sooo nice. I want to bring over a six pack of beer and hang with them. Also, I didn't need new glasses but they're tres affordable and you can pick from any pair of Zaks and get the frames with prescription for $125. The frames are on trend and seriously cool too. The days of paying for overpriced glasses are a thing of the past! So bottom line Zak is good, the staff is cool and prices are awesome. read more

I had the most pleasant experience at this store! I went to see Dr. Richardson for my annual eye exam. She is such a good doctor! She was thorough and explained so many neat things about the eye. She would show my photos and then photos of what she is looking for in terms of health concerns which was so cool. I learned a lot and felt very good about the experience. By far the best experience I have ever had with an eye doctor. As for the store, the check-in process with Gerardo was a breeze and he is fantastic. He explained everything and was so knowledgeable about not only the eye but what each machine does. I told him about my photosensitive epilepsy before taking photos of the back of my eyes (which require a flash of light) and he was so understanding and kind about it and said I didn't have to if it would be too much. I ended up going through with it and it was fine. It doesn't sound like much, but it meant the world to me. I loved my experience with each staff member. They were all so friendly. The store itself is gorgeous and their practices were so hygienic and thorough. When it came to insurance breakdown, Gerardo again was so knowledgeable and explained things so clearly. By far the best experience I have ever had visiting an optometrist and purchasing new glasses. They take care of you as soon as you walk in, offering fresh carrot juice. The service they provided truly goes above and beyond. My optometrist was very helpful and knowledgeable; she recommended I keep my contact prescription at -2.75 instead of -2.75 left and -3.00 right, which really made a huge difference. I moved to LA in Jan and was looking for a new optometrist for glasses. As a result, I found Zak. I visited their office in August based on the great reviews, but left the appointment with a sour taste in my mouth. Unfortunately, I don't remember any names of the people who worked there except for the optometrist. PROS: I visited during COVID and had pretty much the entire space to myself except for one other person who might have come in as a walk-in. The gentleman with brunette hair working with me was awesome! He was very attentive and thorough. He understood the ins and outs of my vision plan so that way we could maximize my purchase that day. Besides being able to try on the glasses, this added to my in-person experience and pretty much the only positive thing about visiting Zak. Zak overall is a GREAT value for their glasses. I think it was around $125 for an eye exam, very stylish frames, and lenses with added reflective coating. I would argue that it is an even better value if you don't have vision insurance and are needing to purchase glasses out of pocket. Overall, I love the quality and style of the glasses I purchased except for an issue with the lenses which is explained further down below. CONS: I understand times are hard for brick and mortar stores even prior to COVID due to online retailers. However, I came into the store and specifically stated what I was there for with the intent of purchase of only glasses. I explained to the optometrist that I was interested in a glasses prescription and a new pair of glasses. She asked me if I wore contact lenses and I told her that I rarely ever wear contacts anymore. She then asked me what brand and I told her I couldn't remember off the top of my head. She proceeded with the eye exam and then brought out two brands of trial lenses for me to try. After seeing the packaging, I told her that I was already using the contact lenses she had recommended. When it came time to pay, there was an extra charge for the contact lenses portion of the exam that was not covered under my insurance. Yes, I know that my insurance does not cover contact lenses exam, but I don't appreciate being looped into one without my permission. For the actual glasses, my only complaint is that the lenses have visible circles on them and after a couple hours of wear due to dust or dirt, they're even more obvious. None of my other glasses have this issue and it's pretty odd to have visible halos in each lense. Would I recommend ZAK to a friend? Yes. If you're needing glasses and especially, if you don't have a vision plan. The value is really hard to beat. If you're needing to buy pretty much anything else like contact lenses, no. You can have a combined glasses and contact lenses exam for cheaper somewhere else. Additionally, you can purchases contact lenses for cheaper from online retailers or Costco. My partner and I just happened to walk by this store and decided to take a peek. The minute we stepped into this beautifully lit space filled with a ton of natural sunlight we were greeted. We never heard of this store but we were instantly intrigued by the space. Phillip immediately assisted us and provided really impressive options for frames. My partner has a child size head so it's always been a challenge to find the right frames that fit just right without creating pressure around her ears or on her nose. Phillip is very knowledgeable and was able to educate her on her options. Phillip also offered my fresh carrot juice while I waited for my partner to try on frames. The store also supports local small business and sells handmade eye glass cases and night mask by rise and rewind. This place is must see. read more

Changing to Zak. after 10 years in LA has been one of the best decisions ever! The staff are so communicative and helpful. They go the extra mile every time and I feel so taken care of in their hands. + love the decor of the shop. The shop has plenty of seating (to wait), set up to shop easily, and doesn't have the typical clinical feeling of going to get your eyes checked out. ++ love their dedication to COVID safety precautions. The shop is spacious and minimalist and really close to home. Gerardo was super helpful while we found our perfect frames. Even though I have vision insurance, I opted to buy my glasses here (using no insurance) since the prices on the Zak brand frames are so affordable. Having less frames to choose from makes it really easy to narrow it down and I look forward to buying more in the future! I don't go out of my way to leave reviews ever and this review is like a month overdue (sorry about that, I've been really busy) but seriously, if you're in the market for new glasses, you have found the only place you need to go to, and here is why: 1) they are all nice and helpful and not annoying trying to push an agenda 2) they keep it real with you about if something looks good on you or not 3) they accept VSP insurance 4) they have an eye doctor on sight 5) I was able to get my glasses same day (but I opted to come back the next day) 6) I actually have a bunch of glasses, I'm really into eyewear... they told me if I brought in all my other glasses, even if they weren't purchased there, they would service them... and they did. This is not only one of the coolest places for eye care , the staff is amazing . It is my first time wearing progressives and at first it really freaked me out and felt so uncomfortable, but they were all so understanding and let me go through the motions . They offer you carrot juice or water and just want you to be happy and comfortable. Your eyes are so important and don't they know it . I love this place. First of all, the store is beautiful - very clean and modern with great design. The staff is also cool and fun but very knowledgeable, and the doctor did a great job of taking her time, doing a thorough exam and explaining everything to me in detail. I was also extremely impressed by the ultra modern, high-tech diagnostic equipment. I have terrible eyes and since childhood I have spent a ton of time in various optometrist/ophthalmologist offices. I have never seen such high-tech equipment and was amazed at their ability to see the eye (and whether or not it's healthy) in such detail. This was also the first time anyone had actually explained to me how many other health issues are visible in the eyes. The Zak brand of glasses is very stylish (in some cases almost too trendy for me as I tend to like fairly traditional frames). They're also well priced and quite a bit cheaper than the frames from other brands which they also sell. The opticians were great at listening to and accommodating what I liked, while also encouraging me to try some frames I wouldn't have considered. I walked away with a pair of fun glasses I really like for a reasonable price. Overall, great experience that actually made me jump on Yelp to leave my first review in a very long time. read more

I had an eye problem that required an emergency visit to an optometrist (I was traveling) and wow, how lucky was I to land in the office of Dr. Danielle Richardson at Zak Eyes. I was able to make follow up appointments according to the EYE HEALING schedule -- which was an amazing and thoughtful response to my problem. Her careful explanation and confident and evolving care as things got better were so impressive and thoughtful. I should note that in the midst of this, when I feared things were getting worse, they got me in to see her colleague Dr. Zackman within hours of early morning call. I will be back. I have seldom felt so certain of a doctor's diagnosis and care. I went to this store for the first time today and had no idea what it was except a store that sold shades. The store was very aesthetically pleasing and I had a good interaction with the guy working in the store. After deciding I didn't want to make a purchase I left and went to the Dolls Kill store across the street for my girlfriend. After finishing up a conversation with an employee there also and leaving the store I ran into the guy from Zak who then accused me of stealing. I was very thrown off guard but I walked with him back across the street to figure out what was going on. After emptying my pockets and trying to help solve the issue as far as I could he still wouldnt budge and neither did the woman also in the store who I assume was the manager maybe. What irritated me though was that he had no proof. I had asked to see the footage that he so called had of me stealing and he said neither of them had access to it. I proceeded to question the logic of the situation but even then he still threatened to call the cops on me for no reason except an illogical guess. A locally owned business should be more careful, respectful, and professional in all aspects but especially in this situation. I truly hope they find the people that did it but if not I hope they at least find out that they were wrong. I definitely won't be going back and will not recommend anyone to visit that place and I hope no one else has to deal with what I had to deal with. read more
