I had a very poor experience at this ophthalmology clinic and would not recommend it. This was my first visit to the office to get my Meta glasses fitted, and from the moment I arrived, the staff was rushed, disorganized, and unwelcoming. I was given a large amount of paperwork to fill out by hand, with no option to complete forms electronically or in advance. While I was still filling everything out, the staff kept rushing me through the process without explaining what was happening or answering questions. I was asked whether I needed a retinal exam, which I declined, as I had recently had one done at my previous ophthalmologist before moving to the area. Despite this, after seeing the doctor, I was told to proceed with the retinal test anyway without being informed that it would be an out-of-pocket charge. At no point did anyone confirm the cost with me. I was later charged around $85-$95, which was extremely frustrating and unprofessional. What made it worse was that after the test, no one reviewed the results with me. There was no explanation, no discussion of findings just a charge and being sent on my way. Paying for a medical test without any review or communication is unacceptable. Communication regarding my glasses was just as poor. No one ever called me with updates on the status of my glasses. After waiting, I had to call the office myself. I was told they would "follow up with the vendor," and over a week later, I finally received a call back only to be informed that they had just placed the order again. This confirmed that the delay was due to internal issues, not the manufacturer as initially implied. When I finally came in to pick up my glasses, the staff was again rude and dismissive. I was asked "who are you?" in a blunt manner, even after stating my name, and the interaction felt cold and disrespectful. Overall, this office lacks professionalism, transparency, and basic patient care. Between the rushed staff, unexpected charges, lack of consent, zero follow-up, and rude interactions, I will never return and strongly suggest others look elsewhere. read more

I'm so bad at taking care of my eyes I get yelled at all the time for forgetting to take out my contacts. I hate going to the eye doctor, I already know what they're going to say. It gives me such anxiety. I should be more responsible I know. Anyways my friend recommended this place due their large selection of frames, but the doctor was so nice I'll make the extra drive. I always appreciate great customer service and bedside manner when it comes to my health/body. They have put protocols in place to keep patients and employees safe. You enter through the back entrance and then a screening is done with temperature checks and questions. All employees had masks on. There's is a waiting section that is away from employees. An assistant/technician does the work up before seeing Dr. Cheng. Dr. Cheng is always friendly and takes the time to check in on any eye concerns I have. He is personable and informative. I noticed he wiped down all the equipment and chair before I sat down. He was great with my kids as well! My 5 yo can be very anxious around doctors. He made it seamless and easy. I didn't have to step in to help. When shopping for frames, you can select the ones you want to try on and then they ask that you place it on the side so they can clean it before they put it back up on display. I appreciate the safety measures. We make a long hour drive just to continue seeing Dr. Cheng. Our whole family are patients (husband and two kids 9yo amd 5yo). If you're in need of contacts, glasses, or other eye concerns, this is the place. They don't treat you like a number and crank out exams like an assembly line that other places do. read more

I just visited Professional Visioncare and saw Dr. Law. Dr. Law was amazing and informative. The staff, not so much. One of the associates did not understand a word I was saying and the other gentlemen that attempted to help me were extremely rude and impatient. His shirt was not buttoned completely and his stomach was exposed. Especially in a professional setting such as this proper attire should be mandatory. Also, they did not have any glasses that I wanted. Part of the reason was that I felt extremely rushed. He basically said, "don't worry you won't hurt our feelings if you go elsewhere for your glasses." I went down the street to another business and ordered a pair of glasses and a 3 month supply of contacts. They missed out on a big sale. I wish my business was as good as theirs where I didn't have to help customers and worry about my bottom line. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Professional Visioncare. read more

My first time at PVC optometry and everyone was pleasant enough. After I had my eyes checked, I wanted updated lenses in my favorite LA Eyeworks frames (they were only a year old and cost $500). A few days later I received a call from PVC telling me my frames were broken when they changed the lenses. When got the damaged frames back they were completely destroyed and broken in several areas (it seemed intentional). They were not very upset about the damage and blamed LA Eyeworks and gave me a offer of a small discount on frames if I bought them there. In desperate need of glasses I took their offer on a pair of Ray Bans. Hours After I left with the glasses, I realized there was a small scratch on the lens. I was so angry about the whole situation I just never went back and its taken me months to write this review. I don't trust these guys. Be warned. read more

Could not be more impressed with the eye test and contact lens fitting services here. I've worn contact lenses for 30 years and the test I relieved last week was the most thorough and well explained I've ever had. The doctor not only explained my retina scan, but also the issue I've been experiencing, and the options I have to help said issue. He completely changed my eye prescription which now allows me to see well up close as I do for distance, and I already notice the difference in my daily life - especially when enduring hours in front of the computer. He has a great rapport with patients, and explains everything in terms the lay person can understand - and understands if the retinal scan photos squick you out! I came here last December because my eyes were burning when I put my contact lenses in. Post visit, Dr. Cheng told me to only use a specific contact lens solution and change contact lenses to a different brand. I called 1-800 Contacts and placed a 6 month order, which Dr. Cheng's office approved after a long back and forth and many unreturned emails, in order to follow his directions. Now, that I'm trying to place a refill order, his office is rejecting the confirmation from 1-800 Contacts because they're saying I need to make another appointment and go in there for a prescription appointment even though my prescription hasn't changed as attested to last December. Very difficult office and staff to get a hold. You need to follow up with them numerous times in order to confirm something or get a call back. I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

There are few services I would drive more than 3 hours for round trip but I gladly do so to see Dr. Jimmy every year for my annual eye exam. He is the most professional, kind, and caring optometrist I've had in over 30 years of wearing glasses and contacts. What's more, he's actually been able to reduce my prescription over the last few years which is just amazing. His office has a very nice, high-end selection of frames and the staff is always very professional and friendly (even when I am late for my appointments due to the long drive and cause havoc on the schedule). I cannot believe that is still haven't made a review yet!! I have been coming here since 2002, when it was still under Dr. Lawenda. Dr Cheng bought the place several years ago and maintained the same staff, named Terry, Aileen and Amber. Recently the got Angel who is a great addition. Unfortunately, our dearest Aileen just passed away, toward the end of March. She will be missed. And most recently, Summer has joined the team. Anyways, back to the review: Staff: As mentioned,just a great group of people. Always very helpful, lending their knowledge with any situation or request you may have. Exam: Dr Cheng is very thorough with his exam. He always checks your history, precious prescription, and does all the fundamental tests. He also gives insight on possible health concerns should he notice any inkling of an issue, that way you can go get it checked. Parking: Huge metered parking at the back of the office and metered street parking in front. Selection: They have a wide range of frames and makers. I wanted a specific one they don't carry and we're able to work with me on securing it while applying any insurance coverage I had. I've been seeing (no pun intended) Dr. Jimmy Cheng for years. Starting at his Santa Monica location since it was close to my office, then switched to the WeHo location since it's closer to home AND has Saturday hours. I mean, who DOES THAT?!? Well, He does. Dr. Jimmy is exceptionally knowledgable about some of my health issues and how they connect to my vision. (I especially love that his background includes having studied Eastern medicine.) He's personable, knowledgable and I know I'm getting amazing care for my eyes. His WeHo office offers a variety of testing machines as well as a large display of frames. His staff: the Opticians, Eileen and Amber, are very friendly and super helpful. And patient. Did I mention how patient they are with the pre-testing? When selecting frames, they always go over what my insurance provides and the best way to go about getting what's needed. They know VSP inside and out which enables me to save money against any needed payments on my end. Frame selection: the Opticians and staff have always been incredibly helpful when it comes to frame selection. Most recently, I selected new sunglasses & frames with the understanding I could make changes w/in 90 days. When they were ready, I changed my mind on both pair. (I've never done this before). I made new selections with their assistance (thanks again Angel and Amber) and swapped out the lenses on my sunglasses. I was thrilled with the results. And I was told to come in if I ever needed any adjustments on the frames or help w/anything else (much appreciated Eileen). I've referred Dr. Jimmy and this specific location to many a friend/colleague and they all say the same thing: THANK YOU for referring me to Dr. Jimmy. He's the best! My response: I KNOW!! Wow! This place has gone to the dogs. Other than the young man who has been there for a long time the new staff is horrible! The woman who helped me was lifeless, no personality, felt like I was bothering her with my questions. Made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. The man working there was rude and abrupt as well. God forgive you walk in without an appointment! They will bite your head off and say no to any questions you may have. They seem like they just don't want to be bothered. Sorry guys, it's called customer service! There seems to be tremendous turnover in the staff over the past year or two. Seems like every few months a whole new staff is there. The staff are very friendly. Other than that, I've had nothing but problems here. 1) It took them months to get the proper contact lens samples for me to evaluate. 2) I have individual VSP and VSP through my employer, and despite explicit instructions on how to bill properly for their services, they billed incorrectly. 3) They overcharged my insurance by hundreds of dollars (charging $250 for a contacts lens fitting, which wiped out my benefits). I was able to get this fixed, but they refused to acknowledge their error and insisted this was the correct price. Additionally, none of the doctors listed on their practice actually seem to actually practice there. The woman I saw was very nice, however. There are other optometry options, so I recommend you look elsewhere. read more

In my opinion, Dr Taketa is a pompous and arrogant OD who treated me like a number and seemed more interested in making money than helping me find the right contact lenses for my eyes. He was impatient and righteous, and seemed to be in a rush both times I saw him. When I was in his office today for a contact fitting, the first pair of contacts was too strong, so I asked to try a different pair and said I'd be happy to pay for the extra set, to which he said that he would have to charge me double the cost of the fitting since it was "double his time." I was absolutely shocked. Isn't the point of a fitting to find the appropriate brand and strength of prescription? Needless to say, I was least impressed. read more

Not to brag, but I have really good eyesight, so it was just a case of severely itchy eyes that brought me in last year. Dr. Cheng and his staff took fantastic care of me, explaining every detail of what they were doing, and making me feel completely comfortable through the entirety of the exam. In the end, he gave me some advice on how to handle my eyes and a prescription for some lenses to enhance my everyday vision to HD when necessary. I had to go back in recently because my prescription was feeling too strong, but this is because there isn't much to correct so it's a bit of an experiment. Dr. Cheng never rushes the process, and genuinely wants to get to the bottom of any symptoms your eyes may be experiencing, especially if an adjustment needs to be made. Appointment scheduling is easy and they're open on Saturdays, which is huge when you work a full time job during the week. The store is clean and welcoming, with just enough eyewear choices that you don't get too overwhelmed. And not only does the staff take time to help you select frames that fit your price point, but they will also tell you honestly if they fit your face. So thankful for my friend's recommendation - never going anywhere else. read more
