Poor patient care experience and disregard for my time. I requested a medical form to be completed, and after noticing two sections were incomplete, I called and was told by the doctor that those sections could be filled out. I drove to the office to drop off the form, only to later be told by Dr. Moarefri that a $150 fee would apply. I would have understand and respected the fee for the later, more comprehensive requests, but I was specifically told these two sections could be completed. Instead, I made an unnecessary trip based on information that was not honored. Additionally, filling out the form would've been more straightforward & less time-consuming if my medical notes were thorough to begin with. The two receptionists were not necessarily rude, but I found their responses dismissive. My medical record only stated "mild condition X," and my files contained retina photos without written interpretations. Yesterday, when I explained that I needed more information for the form, the receptionist starting with the letter M said, "Well, that's just how doctors write notes," while another said on the phone today, "It's not incomplete; the pictures are there for other doctors to interpret." These responses felt dismissive of my concern. As a patient, I should be able to understand what my medical records and images show rather than be left without an explanation of my own condition. The interpretation of my own medical images are not just exclusive to other doctors. I previously left a positive review because I had a good experience with the eye evaluation. Was it thorough? Yes. Was the patient support equally good? Unfortunately, I can't say so. I also discussed LASIK candidacy with Dr. Moarefri, and I felt my concerns were somewhat dismissed. My myopia had increased by more than 2 diopters over six years as an adult, and when I expressed concern, I was told, "That's not a big increase." I was also encouraged to proceed with LASIK without what I felt was a balanced discussion of both the benefits and risks. As a doctor, he should be aware that lasik should only be recommended once the vision has stabilized. I believe patients deserve a realistic discussion of both the potential benefits and complications. A 99% success rate doesn't mean there is zero long-term risk. You can be fine for many years but develop sight-threatening complications (such as ectasia) down the line. You just never know. For me, that uncertainty was a risk I wasn't willing to take. This is why it's important to thoroughly research and listen to different perspectives before proceeding rather than solely relying on the judgement of one doctor -- especially when they make it sound like it's all sunshine and rainbows. Other lasik doctor I consulted with was honest enough to recommend surgery once my myopia stopped progressing. This experience made me realize how important it is to find a doctor who genuinely prioritizes informed decision-making and the patient's long-term well-being rather than simply promoting a procedure. LASIK may be a good option for some people, but patients should be given the full picture and enough information to make that decision for themselves. read more

This was one of the best choices that I've made in my life. I came to Dr. Moafi, after having been turned away from other doctors who said my vision issues were too extreme for any vision correction. I was considered, by some, legally blind and had some scars on my eyes from wearing and sleeping in contact lenses excessively. Because of this, I was unable to wear contact lenses any further and was forced to wear extremely thick glasses. I had one pair for reading and one pair for distance and still not able to experience full vision. This ruined my self esteem and made it extremely challenging to continue my athletic lifestyle. After some extensive research, I found LA Sight and went for a consultation with Dr. Amir Moarefi. His amazing body of work, extensive résumé and overwhelming reviews make me feel that this was the place to go. I must say the entire office and staff were so warm and inviting they made me feel absolutely comfortable. He told me about Refractive Lens Exchange and that he was confident that it would work well for me so of course I booked my surgery right away. The day of surgery I was extremely nervous, but the entire staff put me at ease and Dr. Moarefi had excellent bedside manner and that gave me comfort. The surgery was quick pain-free and it didn't even feel like I had a surgery done at all. This entire experience was amazing to me. Immediately after surgery i could open my eyes, it was blurry but I could see. When I went to sleep that day and woke up later, my vision was amazingly sharp and clear. This didn't seem real to me and still no pain. This surgery gave me 20/20 vision for the first time in my life. Even though the surgeries can be expensive this was definitely money well spent. It's a little over a year later now, which I specifically waited to give my review because I wanted to see if there would be any changes or any issues and there were none. At the start of my healing process in the beginning the stoplights and car lights were extremely bright with halos for the 1st 2-3 days, then they slowly diminished taking about 1-2 months to go away completely. Sporadically I would also see dark crescents from time to time which took about 3-4 months to go away completely. These are all things Dr. Maoerfi told me to expect as my eyes adjust so I was well prepared. Getting through those adjustments were not a big issue, at best mildly annoying but very minor for such a great blessing. One thing to remember is ,as soon as your eyes get adjusted those things will go away, and you will be left with perfect vision. Big thanks to LA Sight, Dr. Moaerfi and the staff. I am so incredibly appreciative of every single person I interacted with during each of my visits. My consultation was when I knew this was going to be the place for me. I have a disability so there are very seemingly little things that are very big wins to me and it all started with the receptionist, Vanessa. She was so accommodating and intuitive in the questions she asked me and was able to recognize what things I may need help with. When I went in to exam room, the techs had the chair moved out of the way for me so I can do the tests in my wheelchair... I've been rejected at eye doctors before for this reason... YES--Trifocals DO Work! And Dr. Moarefi at LA Sight is proof. If you're doing a deep dive on vision correction, reading review after review, stuck between trifocals, EDOF, monovision, or just sticking with the readers -- pause here. You need to read this. I had RLE (Refractive Lens Exchange) with Dr Amir Moarefi and it has been absolutely life-changing. Like many, I wore contact lenses for distance -- but the reader glasses? I loathed them. I was forgetting them, losing them, squinting at menus (or taking a picture and blowing it up) and just filling old. I was so done. What a journey it's been for my vision. It's actually been a decade since I had LASIK here, but this is the review they deserve. A little over a year ago I found Dr. Moarefi through Yelp when I was looking into LASIK. He examined me and said he couldn't do LASIK because I had cataracts in both eyes that needed to be removed (and that in the process they could put in artificial lenses with the proper correction built in). I'm 67 & I've always been nervous about any kind of eye surgery. But I decided to go ahead with it. It's now been a year and I just had a one year followup appointment with him today. Everything has really gone wonderfully from the moment I met Dr. Moarefi. First of all he has to be one of the warmest & nicest doctors I have ever dealt with (and at my age I've dealt with quite a few). He did a great job of listening to all my questions and explained everything to my satisfaction and beyond--his warm & reassuring manner really helped lower my anxiety. And a year later, my vision is still fine (without glasses, which I'd worn since elementary school). There was never any pain. I don't even remember the recuperation process now--it was easy for me. Occasionally I do get slightly blurry vision for a time, or some soreness, if I stare at my screens for too long without a break. He said today that this is probably just dryness and that ordinary lubricating eye drops should help (so that's on my shopping list now). And of course that it's a good idea to give your eyes a little break from staring at a close-up screen periodically. I was and am on Medicare, and they would have covered (I believe) plain lenses with no correction, but I opted to pay additionally out of pocket for the full correction lenses, and if that's what you need and you're able to cover it, I'd recommend it. It's funny, when he told me I had cataracts, I was shocked because I hadn't heard it before from any other eye doctor and I had no real complaints about my vision--I was just thinking of getting rid of my glasses through LASIK. I did go out and get a second opinion. I was told I did in fact have cataracts, that could probably still wait a while before being treated, because they weren't bothering me, but I decided to go ahead and get it over with with Dr. Moarefi. Because the two surgeries were spaced a couple of weeks apart, I had two weeks with one eye without and one eye with cataracts. I was surprised at how much brighter colors looked in one eye vs. the other. I created a photo comparison to give others an idea of the difference I now had in vision between the two eyes. WOW, this office is something special. From the moment I walked in to check in for my appointment, I was greeted by the warmest staff -- they even offered me and my son a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie (such a sweet touch!) When I finally had privilege of meeting Dr Moarefi for my LASIK consultation, I immediately felt like I'd known him forever. He's incredibly warm, kind, down to earth, and has a great sense of humor. What really stood out was how clearly he explained everything -- using a fun TV screen to show visuals and breaking things down in a way that made total sense, without all the confusion medical jargon. In the end, he gave me an honest opinion and told me I'm not a good candidate for Lasik right now because my vision is actually still pretty good . Dr Moarefi and co were wonderful. Few times have I undergone a surgery feeling so assured. All the more impressive when I consider the nature of the surgery--performed while awake, on my eyes. My recovery was excellent, achieving 20-20 eyesight the following day. What mild discomfort I had was relieved with eyedrops used as prescribed. What is surprising to me is that I was not surprised--I'd come to expect an excellent result. This is due to the caliber of the staff. I went to LA Sight for a consultation to see if I was an eligible candidate for LASIK. Overall, my experience was positive. The front desk staff was great, and the receptionist was kind and pleasant. The ophthalmic technician was very sweet and helpful. Since it was my first time having eye imaging done, she made the entire process easy and comfortable. Another technician then came in to perform additional eye exams before the doctor arrived. He was very nice and took the time to explain the differences between LASIK and SMILE, the more advanced procedure. I had several questions, and he answered all of them thoroughly and without hesitation. Dr. Amir then came in and explained that I was eligible for LASIK. Because I am farsighted, he wanted to dilate my eyes before making a final recommendation. I told him it was my first time having my eyes dilated, and he reassured me throughout the process. He even let me know that the first drops might sting a little. Unfortunately, the one part of the experience that made me uncomfortable was my interaction with Provider Sima Tabanfar. She entered the room without knocking while my eyes were already in the process of dilating. She immediately commented that it had not been five minutes yet, which came across as dismissive even though I was not complaining about the wait. When she returned a few minutes later to continue the exam, she did not explain any of the side effects I might experience from the dilation. During the exam, she seemed annoyed by some of the results and made comments that felt unprofessional, which left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Aside from that interaction, the rest of the staff was kind, professional, and helpful. The doctors took the time to explain my options and answer my questions, which I appreciated. I would consider returning to LA Sight in the future, but I would prefer not to work with that particular provider again.
