I came in two days ago to get screened for keratoconus, and I was impressed by how incredibly thorough the process was. The machines used here are very high-tech and advanced, as the data they provided was exceptionally comprehensive. Everyone at the clinic was very polite -- from the receptionist, techs, lasik consultant, optometrist, and Dr. Moarefi. The male tech did a great job guiding me through the different tests; he was also doing a good job training a female tech who was shadowing him and sounded very knowledgeable. My main concern was to determine if my eyes could be corrected to 20/20, and Dr.Moarefi had both the tech and the optometrist check my prescription to see if that would be achievable. I also wanted to get my axial length measured, so the optometrist was able to precisely measure that for me. I truly appreciated Dr.Moarefi's high attention to detail and the way that every single one of my concerns were all addressed seriously. I am so incredibly appreciative of every single person I interacted with during each of my visits. My consultation was when I knew this was going to be the place for me. I have a disability so there are very seemingly little things that are very big wins to me and it all started with the receptionist, Vanessa. I went to LA Sight for a consultation to see if I was an eligible candidate for LASIK. Overall, my experience was positive. The front desk staff was great, and the receptionist was kind and pleasant. The ophthalmic technician was very sweet and helpful. Since it was my first time having eye imaging done, she made the entire process easy and comfortable. Another technician then came in to perform additional eye exams before the doctor arrived. He was very nice and took the time to explain the differences between LASIK and SMILE, the more advanced procedure. I had several questions, and he answered all of them thoroughly and without hesitation. Dr. Amir then came in and explained that I was eligible for LASIK. Because I am farsighted, he wanted to dilate my eyes before making a final recommendation. I told him it was my first time having my eyes dilated, and he reassured me throughout the process. He even let me know that the first drops might sting a little. Unfortunately, the one part of the experience that made me uncomfortable was my interaction with Provider Sima Tabanfar. She entered the room without knocking while my eyes were already in the process of dilating. She immediately commented that it had not been five minutes yet, which came across as dismissive even though I was not complaining about the wait. When she returned a few minutes later to continue the exam, she did not explain any of the side effects I might experience from the dilation. During the exam, she seemed annoyed by some of the results and made comments that felt unprofessional, which left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Aside from that interaction, the rest of the staff was kind, professional, and helpful. The doctors took the time to explain my options and answer my questions, which I appreciated. What a journey it's been for my vision. It's actually been a decade since I had LASIK here, but this is the review they deserve. I once blamed LA Sight for my vision issues, even leaving them a one star review here. When I had LASIK, I came out with my eye turned in and some vision issues like double vision. I assumed I was healing, my brain was adjusting and it would eventually resolve. It didn't, then life got in the way and years went by before I just couldn't take it anymore. Even though it's been seven years at that point, once they heard of my issues, they called me in immediately. They were outstandingly thorough and professional, helping me identify the issues. Turns out, I had a condition called strabismus that I lived all my life without knowing. The LASIK just happen to make it more prominent. It wasn't caused by LASIK nor could it be corrected by LASIK. They referred me to one of the best surgeons for strabismus who I ended up sticking with for surgery. It was the best decision of my life. A little over a year ago I found Dr. Moarefi through Yelp when I was looking into LASIK. He examined me and said he couldn't do LASIK because I had cataracts in both eyes that needed to be removed (and that in the process they could put in artificial lenses with the proper correction built in). I'm 67 & I've always been nervous about any kind of eye surgery. But I decided to go ahead with it. It's now been a year and I just had a one year followup appointment with him today. Everything has really gone wonderfully from the moment I met Dr. Moarefi. First of all he has to be one of the warmest & nicest doctors I have ever dealt with (and at my age I've dealt with quite a few). He did a great job of listening to all my questions and explained everything to my satisfaction and beyond--his warm & reassuring manner really helped lower my anxiety. And a year later, my vision is still fine (without glasses, which I'd worn since elementary school). There was never any pain. I don't even remember the recuperation process now--it was easy for me. Occasionally I do get slightly blurry vision for a time, or some soreness, if I stare at my screens for too long without a break. He said today that this is probably just dryness and that ordinary lubricating eye drops should help (so that's on my shopping list now). And of course that it's a good idea to give your eyes a little break from staring at a close-up screen periodically. I was and am on Medicare, and they would have covered (I believe) plain lenses with no correction, but I opted to pay additionally out of pocket for the full correction lenses, and if that's what you need and you're able to cover it, I'd recommend it. It's funny, when he told me I had cataracts, I was shocked because I hadn't heard it before from any other eye doctor and I had no real complaints about my vision--I was just thinking of getting rid of my glasses through LASIK. I did go out and get a second opinion. I was told I did in fact have cataracts, that could probably still wait a while before being treated, because they weren't bothering me, but I decided to go ahead and get it over with with Dr. Moarefi. Because the two surgeries were spaced a couple of weeks apart, I had two weeks with one eye without and one eye with cataracts. I was surprised at how much brighter colors looked in one eye vs. the other. I created a photo comparison to give others an idea of the difference I now had in vision between the two eyes. I found Dr. Moarefi on Yelp. I read all his reviews and decided to book an exam. I had recently been told I had cataracts in both eyes. It was affecting my work and I was considering retiring because my eyes were so bad (one was double vision). I am a CEO of an international company and this would be a big move for me. But, I was skipping lines when answering people on email, I couldn't tell a 'b' from a 'd' and 'F' from a 'K'... it was a disaster at work. Funny how the brain tries to compensate... I was desperate. I showed up for my free exam and assessment, and was shocked at the extent of this highly professional exam. Everyone was skilled, nice, professional and thorough. The atmosphere of the office was very friendly and I instantly felt taken care of. At the end of the more than 1 hour exam, I met Dr. Moarefi. He is a warm, confident and highly professional MD who is also relatable. He's kind and very smart. He went over all the tests that had been done, dilated my eyes himself for one more exam. He then answered all my questions, and gave me bad news (I needed cataract surgery with lens implants in both eyes). However, there was no pressure from him to book the surgery. But, I did book it to be done a week and a half later, both eyes at once. He told me he had operated on two relatives and they both had eyes done at the same time, so this convinced me when he answered YES to my question, was it a success and are they still talking to you. Dr. Moarefi has a sense of humor. He then discussed the lens options by outlining the positives of each and the limitations. The staff at LA Sight are very professional and booked my surgery and follow up visits right away. They explained everything and answered all my questions. The day of surgery I was extremely nervous. Afterall, you only have one pair of eyes. But, the care at 90291 Surgery Center is first rate. They are EXCEPTIONALLY nice and very calm and nice. They explained everything that would be done. You are prepared for the surgery with an IV for a light sedative that keeps you 'sort of' aware but you don't care about anything (best way to describe the surgery). The anesthesiologist, Dr. Wong was amazing as was my nurse, 'J' (Janise). Dr. Moarefi meets you before you are wheeled into the OR and he explains everything that will be going on. He literally holds your hand. And (your eyes are closed at this time to absorb the eye drops), he tells you that he will be with you and will be talking to you about every aspect of what he's doing during the surgery. The surgery was about 15 minutes per eye and it's an experience. You are VERY relaxed and (I'm a nurse) it's a fascinating process of removing your defective lens and placing another in its place. The post-op care was also fine; juice, graham crackers and (best of all) a nice warm blanket. BUT, the MOST AMAZING experience is when you are wheeled down to your pick-up person and you first see (though hazy) a world that is now 3D, vibrant with color that you didn't know you were missing, and has a clarity you didn't even know you were missing. I came home, slept for a bit and by that night, I went to my favorite restaurant with friends. The first follow up visit was a testament to Dr. Moarefi's skill; MY VISION WAS 20/20;' BOTH EYES and (honestly) I think by my one week follow up it will be even better. He personally did the test and we both were so pleased!!! It is truly a miracle of both modern science and a highly skilled physician. I went to two other optometrist offices before I found this optometrist office online. The first two places did not make me feel comfortable and seemed old. When I went into L.A. Sight, I immediately felt comfort from the staff and the fact that they had newer technology. They had so many devices to test your eye sight, they test your eye sight more than 3 times to make sure of everything. Dr. Amir Moarefi was so kind and humble, you can tell he knows what he's doing and is confident in his work. My smile laser surgery was under 3 minutes and I did not feel a single thing. I had an absolutely incredible experience at LA Sight for my LASIK surgery. From the moment I walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive. I especially loved their relaxation spa room, where I was able to unwind and let the medication take effect before the procedure. Every step was explained, and I felt completely safe and cared for. I highly recommend LA Sight to anyone who is interested in or recommended for corrective eye surgery. Luckily I found out about LA Sight through their many positive Yelp reviews, and I'm glad I did! From my initial consultation in mid November, I was immediately welcomed by all of the staff there. Lucy, the office manager was very welcoming and checked me in with ease. Tim, one of the clinical/surgical technicians provided a great initial checkup before I met with the doctor. Dr. Tabanfar met with me to finish my initial checkup and was also very helpful, breaking down the key differences between LASIK and SMILE and answered any questions I had. Afterward, Andrea helped me set up my appointment and provided a great recap of my initial visit. The day of my SMILE procedure went perfectly! Dr. Tseng provided an excellent breakdown of what to expect before, during, and after surgery, and helped answer any questions I had. She had such great energy and helped me feel right at home! Shortly after, I met with Dr. Moarefi, who would be performing my SMILE surgery. Dr. Moarefi was excellent! He helped me feel at ease right before the surgery by explaining detailed steps on how the procedure would go and assured me that all would be well. Even during the surgery he was coaching me step by step on what to expect and what he would be doing, which calmed my nerves. Steven and Tim, the clinical/surgical technicians were also great at assisting Dr. Moarefi during the procedure and helped everything run smoothly. The following day during my post-op visit, Alice and Vanessa, the lead patient coordinators were there to welcome me and check me in. They were very kind and asked how everything went. Finally, Tim helped run some tests on my eyes to check how they were doing. Then, Dr. Tseng did a final examination on my eyes and reinforced the post-op instructions and congratulated me on my new vision! All in all, I was very impressed by the whole experience! I couldn't have asked for a better team from start to finish. I believe I mentioned everyone, but if I missed any shout-outs, sorry, you guys were all great! Update: it's been almost a year now and my eyesight has never been better! I used eye drops pretty religiously the first few months after surgery but don't need them anymore. There's no pain or discomfort and my eyes feel great. Highly recommend! read more

I went with LASIK and my pain was very little the day of the surgery, the next day I woke up with barely any pain and my vision was amazing, better then when I had glasses.
