I am currently recovering from ptosis surgery I had from Dr. Biro a few days ago. He and his team were excellent, efficient, and understanding of my concerns. I'm now 23 hours post-op for my first cataract surgery. My IOL choice was light adjustable lenses. Prior to any adjustment. My far and mid-range clarity is amazing; extremely sharp! The color white is a bright white. The duration of the laser-assited surgery was less than about 5 minutes. The surgical prep and staff were flawless. I had ICL surgery in 2016 and could not be happier with the results. Dr. Dougherty is the doctor who worked with the FDA to get it approved, so I knew he knows what he's doing. His office is NOT a typical turn-and-burn medical office where I **might** see the actual doctor for 2 minutes. Dr. Dougherty took the time to meet me and my husband, TALKED to me to learn more about me, what I wanted from the procedure, and took the time to explain precisely what I could realistically expect. He also detailed what I MAY get, and what I would NOT get. He has a mandatory next day follow up, which is appreciated so I didn't feel like I was tossed in the wind. My ICL needed a little tweaking, so he did a quick 10 minute LASIK to perfect my vision to what I wanted. The ONLY drawback is he only has offices in Westlake Village (where I went), Camarillo, San Luis Obispo, Thousand Oaks, Encino and Simi Valley. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty awesome he has so many locations, BUT they are definitely NOT close to me (WLV is 150 miles each way). I'm a big eye nerd. So big that I went and graduated from optometry school, did a residency, earned my fellowship, and am now teaching full time at an optometry school. So when it came to getting refractive surgery, I couldn't have just anyone take care of my eyes (because who wants an optometrist with blurry vision?). I did my research, talked to colleagues, and am super happy I went with Dr. Dougherty. I appreciate that Dr. Dougherty works well with optometrists so I could do my pre- and post-ops with my own optometrist and just had to come in for a few measurements right before surgery. I also liked that he has a really strong background, did a corneal fellowship, actively does research and publishes, and trains both ophthalmology residents and optometry students. But most importantly I really enjoyed my experience working with Dr. Dougherty and his team. Drs. Dougherty and Vida and their staff took great care of me and were friendly and professional. Their office was clean, had hi-tech instrumentation, and they were efficient, kind, and took care of everything (parking's even validated). other random tips: 1. set aside flex spending money for the surgery 2. whoever you go with do your research and make sure you're comfortable and have all of your question answered 3. have a good person to drive you there and home and don't plan to do anything after surgery - I had my surgery at 1P and basically slept on and off until 6A the next day (but woke up feeling awesome and could drive and do everything like normal) extra kudos - Drs. I had a bad experience at my consultation. The technician who conducted the bulk of my appointment looked about 20 years old, and asked questions that made me uncomfortable. Most importantly, he asked how much I was expecting to pay for LASIK and would not let it go. This made me feel there is some discriminatory pricing going on...why would they be so insistent to know what I was willing to pay? He then gave me an iPad to watch a video of the doctor explaining the surgery instead of actually speaking to him about it. I was told he was starting a surgery but would be in soon...then he came in 2 min later. That's also concerning, why would he schedule a consultation at the same time as doing an actual surgery? Finally, the sales person at the end quotes 2x as much as my optometrist had said it would cost. The doctor was really nice and professional, but I spent over an hour at the office and only had 5 min with the doctor. Because of the strange vibes I got, I will be seeking surgery elsewhere. read more

The wife had laser eye surgery here and here's how we did... After watching the videos and the warnings I was a bit concerned for the health of my wifes eyes. But after talking to the Dr himself I felt so comfortable that I would let him take my wife on a date. Ok, not that comfortable but he was very reassuring and confident that I knew we were in good hands. Everything we talked about from recovery time to the amount of pain (very little) to post-op visits and calls were spot on. This is a master of his craft and I'm glad my wife came here. My wife had a couple concerns a week after the surgery and the Dr himself got on the phone to answer her questions. Lo and behold its been a few months and my wifes vision is perfect. I had PRK with Dr. Bala. I was told over the years that correction would never be possible. Even though I had some irregularities with my corneas, the doctor still proceeded with the surgery. I can see at 20/20 and sometimes better. I was at a -7 and -6.5 in my eyes before, and now I need glasses NO more!!! My only complaint was the first consultation I was told I could have LASIK. Then, during the actual procedure day, I was told it had to be PRK or IOLs. The confusion made me a bit uncomfortable, and I didn't know how it would go. I did go ahead, and it turned out very well. I recently had Lasik surgery with Dr. Daugherty about mid-May, and am fast approaching the 1-month mark since my operation. I couldn't be happier with the results (like I can f'ing see, it's glorious), but also with my experience as a whole. Everyone was always incredibly friendly, helpful, and on top of answering my questions (and there were many). From pre-op to post-op and everything in between, I'm so grateful for everyone's role in that office and how they made themselves available, with a smile. Dr. Daugherty is the guy, with the experience and approach that will ensure you get the best results with your surgery. I was so nervous and anxious about my procedure, the follow-up and post-op care, and much more (and because I have what the Dr referred to, and one of my all-time personal favorite descriptions, as, "high brows and a deep socket" which caused some broken blood vessels). Dougherty Laser Vision is my favorite place for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, the staff. They are the nicest, kindest people I've ever met. They joke, laugh, and are so helpful -- I can't say enough good things about them. I've seen two doctor's here, both are fantastic. Dr. Vida is wonderful, confident, and made a special stop to see me at 6:15am so I wouldn't have to drive to their Westlake Village office. Now that is customer service. I was at the center for a form of eye surgery where they put an implantable contact lens in your eye, it's called Visian ICL. From the moment I scheduled a consultation (about 3 months ago) I have been very impressed with the customer service and Doughtery's overall approach. The overall office staff is friendly and professional. It is evident they are professionals and the environment reflects that. Doughtery himself is very professional and supportive throughout the actual procedure. The whole thing is pretty painless and I have a low tolerance for pain. You're pretty much in and out in 20 minutes. They send you off equipped for care and maintenance too. They anticipate many FAQs customers will have, but even if one is not addressed they will address your inquiry as I have found. Pretty much each time I have had a question I have received a prompt reply. I'D ESPECIALLY LIKE TO ACKNOWLEDGE ILYCE, the coordinator for all three locations. You will be in GREAT hands! She is AMAZING and consistently so. She truly has gone ABOVE & BEYOND. She is very knowledgable and very supportive throughout the entire process. Due to traveling I could not get the procedure until a few months following my consult. She was very patient with my scheduling needs and with the angst that arose around pre-LASIK and post-LASIK. Love my new set of fresh ! For the longest time, since Jr High through my 30s, I've worn glasses and contacts as long as I can remember. I had Dougherty Laser Vision do Lasik surgery so I wouldn't have to use glasses anymore. It lasted approximately 3 years before I noticed I couldn't see the same print I had been reading after the surgery. In the last 6 months i noticed rapid vision loss where I needed reading glasses to read. I set an appointment to get checked and the resolution the Dr I saw was to spend another 12 to 14 thousand on lens replacement which she said probably should have been the route I should have went because of my age. (55). seems i Guess if lasik goes bad within a year they will accept responsibility but after that you can keep writing them checks for poor quality service. read more

I cannot attest to DLVs capabilities as I only had a consultation. I had been diagnosed with cataracts during a routine eye exam, but these are relatively small and my sight is not heavily impaired at this point, I can drive legally without wearing my glasses and reading small print is a challenge, but age is a factor I guess. However the tests done at DLV during my consult revealed a more challenging issue that made cataract surgery more risky. While Mr Dougherty admitted that as a surgeon he likes to do operations, his advice was to hold off and reassess in a year's time and update my prescription glasses. So this rating reflects my appreciation of receiving good advice, that may not be the most lucrative for the practice, and not what I wanted to hear, based upon my expectations of cataract surgery, but sound guidance nonetheless. read more

Ok...I WAS legally blind. This man made me cry tears of joy, after I realized that trees have leaves! THE PROCEDURE: Visial ICL...Dr. D is the leading opthamologist in the WORLD when it comes to ICL. He travels the world instructing others on how to perform this procedure. He is the Creme de la Creme. Actually, he's beyond that. It's a quick procedure. it's a small injection of a lense that replaces contacts. It's inside your eye. I was seeing 110% within 20 seconds of him finishing. I now see in HD. yes, folks, I see in HD. 100% UV protection inside of my eye!! Unlike Lasik, you see thru your natural cornea. There is no flap, no burning smell.....and it's completely reversible! THE SERVICE: 5+++++ stars. I invited my consult to my fucking wedding. This changed my life. The care, the passion, the knowledge.... Out of this world. OVERALL: You're a dip-shit if you go anywhere else than here. Dr. D TEACHES people how to do this. But aside from ICL, he is also a Lasik genius. He is, hands down the best Opthamologist I've ever seen. And, I've been seeing eye Docs since was 2 years old. I know, I see 20/15 (beyond perfect) and never have to worry about contact again. Readers should note that my surgery with Dr. Dougherty took place in Dec 2008, and my last post-surgery office visit with him occurred Aug 2011, so he may have modified some of his habits/behaviors/procedures (hopefully for the better) since then. ----------- Positives ----------- Exceptionally bright man. Even in a field of bright people (physicians), Dr. Dougherty stands apart. Went above and beyond the call of duty in answering my questions. More so than other refractive surgeons I interviewed (and I interviewed A LOT of them back in 2007-08). The results of my Visian ICL surgery were great for the first 2.5 years. The cataracts that developed after that were caused by a combination of my age and the statistics of that particular kind of surgery. I knew those risks going in, so Dr. Dougherty is without fault regarding the failure to get more than 2.5 years out of my ICL lenses. The view (Hollywood sign, Paramount water tower) from his old Larchmont Village office was the best "eye chart" I've ever seen. Won't get that in the Beverly Hills office he now shares with Andy Caster (unless they pay Salma Hayek to stand in the lobby). ----------- Negatives ----------- In all of my pre- and post-surgery consultations & follow-up visits, I got the feeling that Dr. Dougherty's mind was 50% on my issues and 50% somewhere else. It's like he's almost TOO smart, and the pace of us normal humans is inadequate to keep his mind occupied. When I was in the "on deck circle" for my surgery, I even tested him ("What's my name, surgery type, and lens prescriptions?") to make sure that he had not gotten unsynchronized from his patient queue. During none of my post-surgery checkups did he or his staff dilate my eyes. Had they done so, they'd have discovered cataracts forming, which I finally did get diagnosed (and removed & replaced) by another doctor. For the Visian ICL surgery I had, dilation is an essential part of the follow-up care. Imagine being a heart attack victim, and noticing that your cardiologist never listens to the left side of your chest with that stethoscope that hangs around his neck. As of Aug 2014, there were still two items on the last page of his online CV ( http://www.doughertylaservision.com/ . . . . . Why Choose Us . . . . . Our Doctors . . . . . I went to the Dougherty Laser Vision Center to get implantable contact lenses. Dr. Dougherty is the best! He boasts an impressive CV showing lots of valuable training and experience. He is also a professor at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute. So no question that Dr. Dougherty's extremely welll-qualified. I ended up getting the implantable contact lenses because I'm not a candidate for LASIK or PRK. Dr. Dougherty is one of the few doctors around who has lots of experience doing this procedure. Dr. Dougherty has a great bed-side manner. He was extremely patient and thorough in explaining the procedure, the benefits and risks, and he answered all of my questions. He even called me while he was out of town on vacation so that he could answer more of my questions. The staff were all very friendly, and the office is professional and very clean. Also right by Larchmont Village. It's been 7 months since I had the ICL done, and I'm very happy with the results. I highly recommend Dr. Dougherty! read more

I had very poor vision, -14 glasses prescription, and wasn't eligible for LASIK; so another clinic recommended me to Dr Dougherty for ICL surgery. I had been to consultations at a few other places, and Dr Dougherty's was by far the best- everyone on the staff was just wonderful, the office was nice, everything went very smoothly. I am so glad that I went there! The procedure was completely pain-free, easy, and now I have better than 20/20 vision with no problems! Before the surgery, I had to get several tests, during which they explained everything that they were doing and spent a lot of time with me examining my eyes and making sure that the implanted contact lens would be the right prescription. Mike was really patient with me to get my prescription exactly right, flipping through those lenses for a *really* long time. Dr Dougherty himself answered all my questions before the surgery and explained to me exactly what he would be doing to correct my vision. The day of the surgery, Mike tested my vision again to confirm (even though they order the lenses that will be going into my eye in advance, he explained that they ordered a few close to my prescription, to make sure they put exactly the right one in). The surgery itself was completely pain-free, I was terrified it would be Clockwork Orange-style, but it was very easy, they kind of gently tape your eyes open. I could see throughout the surgery, it was just very bright (your pupils are dilated) and unfocused. The whole thing only took about ten minutes and I could see perfectly right after! Now it's been over a month and I can see so well! I'm so glad I finally did it, and chose Dr Dougherty and his team. read more

I came here for a consultation for Visian ICL. I know my prescription was way too high for lasik, and I'd heard & read that Dr. Dougherty is basically a superstar when it comes to the ICL procedure. Turns out their main clinic is in camarillo though, so the doctor is only at the larchmont location few days a week (Wednesday for sure). The staff here is very friendly without being fake. The girl I met with for my consult, Sandra, is super sweet, and it seems like she genuinely wants to help people improve their vision/quality of living, and that it's not just about making a quick buck. I was TERRIFIED of getting lasik and put it off for years. Finally one of my coworkers got it done and he told me about the research he'd done and how the doctor her went to was the best one out there. So, I decided since he didn't go blind and seemed happy with it, I'd check out his doctor. Sure enough, Dr. Dougherty is the best one out there. My vision was -5.00, which means everything was basically a blur without my contacts. My boyfriend came with me to the free consult to see if I was a good candidate. We both wanted to make sure I went to a doctor we could both trust, since obviously if things don't go well, it was something that would affect both of us. Dr. Dougherty was incredibly patient. I asked him a million questions, including his academic history (He shares an office with another doctor, and that doctor went to Harvard, so before we met him, we were like "Maybe we should check out his buddy here instead..."). Dr. Dougherty went through his whole history with us, and answered every question I had. He didn't make me feel like I was wasting his time, and he reiterated that he wanted me to feel comfortable with it. The consult couldn't have gone better. By the time I left, I was booking my appointment to get it done. The actual day of surgery was a little different. Dr. Dougherty seemed a little rushed and hurried, but not in a bad way. It seemed more like he was really excited that he was getting to cut open my eye in that passionate sort of way. Kind of like when I watch Grey's Anatomy and the doctor's get all excited about surgery. The staff was AMAZING the entire time I was there. One of the optometrist technicians (I think his name is Mike) remembered exactly who I was and seemed to know my chart without even looking. The entire staff was incredibly patient. After they gave me the first xanex/valium thing, I was still nervous and didn't feel ready so they gave me a little more time and talked with me until I was good to go. The surgery itself was really fast. I think each eye took about 5 minutes from start to finish. He seemed to run a very tight ship in there. After it was done, I could immediately see. I went home right after, slept for about 4 hours like they told me to and woke up seeing perfectly. I'm about 1 month post op and I still have some starbursts at night, but I'm told they should get better. Supposedly when your vision starts out as bad as mine did, it takes longer to heal up and for stuff like that to go away. I still give them 5 stars because the starbursts aren't a result of him giving me a bad surgery, it's completely normal. I do not have dry eyes. I use the rewetting drops because they tell me to, but otherwise my eyes are so far perfectly fine. If I could go back in time, I would do it all over again with him and his staff. Everyone from the receptionist to accounting was really wonderful in both the beverly hills and westlake offices. I don't know whether the extra money for CATZ was worth it or not, but I figured I'd rather pay the extra and know I got the best lasik out there, than risk my outcome not being as good and having to get another enhancement with it. Dr. Dougherty really is the best. I think when people are reviewing him and say he's hurried, it might be referring to surgery days, but it seemed more like he was focused on making sure everything went right and didn't have time to be as "patient." In the office today for the first time doing a lasik consult. I've been really apprehensive about the procedure, but Dougherty Laser Vision was actually recommended to me by my manicurist! I went to see her one day and realized that she was no longer wearing glasses and she told me after many consults at other offices she came here and now can see perfectly! I haven't decided on the procedure yet, but so far things are going really great. Misty at the front desk is super sweet, Linda who did my initial consult has been very thorough, as well as kind informative. I saw Dr. Yaucefi for the actual medical part of the consultation and she has been extremely helpful, taking the time to answer all of my questions and put my mind at ease. I had Lasik surgery in October with Dr. Dougherty. He and his team are phenomenal, and treated me like a prince. I cannot imagine better care, and the clarity of my vision (20/20) says it all. I could not be happier, or more grateful to the amazing work they put in. The procedure is done with incredible efficiency, and the entire staff is friendly and confidence-inspiring. I truly recommend DOUGHERTY LASER VISION, everyone is absolutely wonderful. Our vision is extremely important and it's of out most importance to pick the best team. (They are the best team!!) Amanda conducted my vision exam, she was great, took time to explain what she was doing And answer all my questions. Doctor Dougherty was very thorough, explained my eye condition Keratoconus which  is a progressive eye disease in which the normally round cornea thins and begins to bulge into a0l cone-like shape.  he explained the treatment I needed, new non invasive cross linking eye. Came here for my pre-op exam and couldn't have been happier. Staff was friendly, attentive, and thorough, and the wait time was non-existent. The office is super clean and has an awesome view of the Hollywood sign. My surgery the next day at the new location was equally as enjoyable, but that's another story. Who would have thought that getting your eyes shaved by lasers would be a fun day?! Well, with Dr. Dougherty and his amazing staff, it sure is. Dougherty is both amazingly confident and personable. The books of "thank you" letters, many from other doctors, show that he's at the top of his field. After consulting with him, I was left with no doubt that I was in very good hands. Dougherty and his wonderful staff do a fantastic job with setting you at ease, both before and on the day of your surgery. This is no small feat, considering that your vision is about to get lasered! The office is warm. The walls are decorated with kick ass art work, along with letters from and photos of some of Dougherty's more famous clients. The surgery itself is amazingly easy. I didn't feel a thing as my eyes were quickly corrected. In fact, the doc and I were having quite a nice conversation, which was twice stopped by him telling me to be still for a minute so he could do the actual correction! Two hours after leaving my apartment, I was home in bed. A few hours later, my eyes were open. Aside from the goofy eye shields, I was pretty much back to normal. Cut to one month later. My vision? "Better than perfect". I'm not sure how that can be, but that's what they say. 20/15 for those who like to measure. LASIK is a great investment. If you're going to do it, do it with this guy. read more

The idea of a laser anywhere near my eye freaks me out. So, to say Dr. Dougherty made me a believer in the safety of the procedure is an understatement. What really sold me is that Dr. Dougherty gave me a copy of his book during our initial consultation. Anyone who writes a book about how great they are at doing something is either really conceited or just that good. Dr. Dougherty is really just that good. Not only is he confident in his abilities to get the procedure done right the first time, but he has a calming manner as well. I went from being BLIND to having better vision than I have ever had. I only came in for a consultation, and this review is only informational for VSP customers who might be considering coming here because of the insurance discount on LASIK. I am very cost conscious, so when I heard that I could get a discount on Lasik through my insurance, I decided to come here for a consultation. The facility is beautiful, they have free validated parking, and everyone that I met was very nice. Dr. Bala is friendly and seems very qualified. However, this is one of the more expensive places that I consulted even with the insurance discount. They told me that the discount is 15% if they have no ongoing promotions, and 5% if so. When I went, they were having a promo of $1000 off (although the fee breakdown they showed me had an additional $1k charge for "custom upgrades" that was never explained...), so the VSP discount was 5%. Out the door, the cost was going to be close to 6K for both eyes even after the discount, which is nearly double the price of another place I went that is not affiliated with VSP. The facility seems great and I'm sure they are worth every penny, just writing this review to save a trip for anyone else only considering this place because of the VSP discount. It brings me great joy to give this place a 5 star rating since it means I can see!!! It's been 6 months since my surgery. I had a pretty bad astigmatism and prescription going in and now I'm basically 20/20. No dry eyes, no problems night driving, really no problems at all. It's tough choosing a surgeon with the wide variety of selection out there in LA. I went to several doctors to feel them out. To be honest, it semed like most of the doctors during the consultation were in a hurry and telling you what you wanted to hear to get you to sign up for surgery and take your money. Even Dr. Dougherty seemed to have the same spiel every time I saw him, with the 'You're gonna love, we'll take great care of you, you're in good hands". But I choose him as he seemed more conservative than other doctors I went to, which is good in my books. From the research that I did, it appeared he had a good track record as well. In the end, I'm sure a lot of the surgeons out there can get the job done. I liked Dougherty more than the rest, and he did a great job. It's amazing not to have to wear glasses or contacts anymore and I'm very happy with my results. read more

I would like to start this review by saying that Dr. Dougherty is the epitome of what a professional is supposed to be. His bedside manner is great, he is very patient and has no problems going over every detail of the procedure with you. His staff and associates are knowledgeable, friendly, and kind. They are willing to help and answer questions every step of the way. The facility at the Beverly Hills office is everything you would expect a modern healthcare facility to be. Clean, organized, and have the latest technology. The procedure itself was virtually painless, as you only feel a slight pressure. After a short period of time the procedure is done, and after the recovery period it was like seeing with a brand new set of eyes.
