About 20 years ago I had Holcomb C3-R, and Intacs and CK to fix my Keratoconus. My eye doctor originally told me the only options were hard contacts and cornea transplant. I was diagnosed with keratoconus about 4 or maybe 5 years ago. After extensive research I found Dr Brian through asking multiple ophthalmology offices if they performed cross linking epi on. Almost all of them said no, or if they did do epi on, they would not tell me how much it cost without a consultation. Even though I already knew and had progressed KC. I called so many offices from LA to SD. Other practices where cheaper but one "Dr" actually had a criminal background. Some other places were even more expensive, and FYI no medical insurance covers epi on because it's not FDA approved. I don't think they cover epi off either, unless you are showing progression, which means your eye sight will get even worse before they consider paying for your treatment. Though epi on has less success rate, it was my decision to pursue it for the less aggressive procedure. I was not going to do epi off by any means, and I didn't have insurance either way. I ultimately decided to move forward with Dr Brian because of his extensive medical research and background so I felt comfortable with his expertise. He was also practically the only one who does do epi on, he does not do epi off. It was easy to book and apt and they disclosed the price when I called. So there was always transparency and no one pressured me to move forward, they explained the benefits of the procedure (Holcomb CR3) and how it would stop the progression. I went in for a consultation and exams and moved forward with his procedure. Of course with medicine, there is no 100% guarantee, however after getting my procedure Nov 2025, I went to Dr Brian and another office April 2026 to get my cornea measured, and it seems like my KC has stabilized. According to both measurements from the 2 different locations, the KC isn't progressing. Hopefully it stays like this forever! I had CXL epi off cross linking in 2018 and it was the worst experience of my life and my keratoconus got progressed on top of it. I Googled and found Dr. Brian who is the best keratoconus doctor and he did Holcomb C3-R which was painless and you can't compare the difference in experiences. I am stable now too! First I did tons of research to find the best eye surgeon for my son who had early cataracts and Dr. Brian was the name that kept coming up - and I extensively researched him. He did the cataract surgery with a trifocal lens and he's seeing amazing. Next I asked Dr. Brian about the eye color change surgery he specializes in called ColorEyes for myself. I had LASIK about 15 years ago and Dr. Brian has safety as his top priority and explained he's not comfortable at this time doing the procedure on me because of the lasik and he needs to see longer term results that give him the confidence that it's safe in people like me with prior lasik. I normally don't write negative reviews, but I felt like people who plan to visit this place should be aware. I was fooled by the advertisement and possibly paid positive reviews. I came to this ophthalmologist seeking a solution for my bad vission. I suffer from Keratoconus in two eyes, and my right eye being the worst. I contacted them to inform myself of their procedure and pricing. Everything sounded great, so  I paid for the consultation and stopped by to see them. Staff was great, welcomed me, and treated me great. Doctor Boxer promised me positive results. Stating that my vision would highly improve. Pricing was a hard pill to swallow, with the amount being around $15,000. I debated on doing this procedure or not, but I kept telling myself that my vision is something that would improve my life, so I went ahead and booked my appointment. After the procedure, I was given eye drops and vitamins to take with instructions.  I followed these instructions to the T. 1 week went by, and I didn't see results. I waited it out, and I told myself maybe it was something that would slowly improve as my eye would recover from the procedure. 3 months went by and nothing had changed.  I sent Doctor Boxer an email letting him know that I wasn't seeing improvement, that my vision remained the same and asked for a reassessment, maybe the procedure didn't go as planned and maybe it was something that they could  correct. His staff responded and gave me an appointment. I met with Doctor Boxer and he told me that the procedure went as planned took a look at my eye and kept trying to tell me that the my vison had improve that I just wasn't appreciating the results. I stated that I didn't see any improvement off my vision as if I hadn't had gotten any procedure.  I told him that I would be complaining if I would've seen some kind of results. During the visit, the doctor had the nerve to ask me if I planned to schedule a procedure for my other eye! I stated thar if I didn't see any improvement in one eye, I was not going to do any more procedures with them for my other eye. To make a long story short, I ended up asking for a refund, and he refused to do so. So now I continue to have bad vision and the 15,000 dollar debt. It has been about 3 months since my touch up for the "Whiter Eyes" procedure, and while I waited hopefully for months, ultimately I feel disappointment and regret with the result. I chose to do this in December 2023 as somewhat of a New Year's resolution. This was extremely expensive, the most money I've ever spent on myself, and the procedure has left my eye bloodshot and redder than ever before. I followed Dr. Brian for a while, ever since I started researching cosmetic conjunctivoplasty and finding that he is well known for this procedure. I was particularly self conscious about a few large blood vessels in my left eye. When I was younger I experienced head trauma that resulted in the blood vessels and I wanted to erase them, so to speak. Dr. Brian chose to remove the blood vessels using a cauterization technique. He assured me that it was less invasive than removing conjunctiva, thus less likely to induce scarring/inflammation. Since this was "less invasive" he did not prescribe Mitomycin C drops, which helps reduce inflammation and new blood vessels emerging after. I am a very fast healer with high metabolism and in retrospect, I think the drops may have been necessary. Immediately after the first procedure, my eye was very bloodshot and I looked pretty messed up. Over time it got better, but after 3 months it was obvious that my eye looked worse than before. The blood vessels he claimed to have removed are still there, and the nerve loops attached to them had burst and left blue patches on my sclera. Furthermore, new blood vessels grew in the corner of my eye which now looks bloodshot. After 3 months Dr. Brian did a touch up using the conjunctiva removal technique, to remove a small "stain". After the touch up I used the Mitomycin drops and my eye showed somewhat of an improvement from the last time. But months after the touch up, the blue patches and blood vessels are still there, and my eye is still looking redder than before December. It is devastating to spend so much money to ultimately make my eye redder. My eyes are such an important part of my identity and I am so sad they look like this now. I feel totally unsupported and alone in this outcome. I would not recommend this procedure to anyone. read more

Dean McGee in Oklahoma said there was nothing that could be done for the right eye other than a transplant for my son's keratoconus the day it was diagnosed. Their plan for the good eye was to compare corneal maps 4 months after diagnoses ... basically to document the good eye going blind, too. Dr. Wachler saved Trenton's vision. It is outrageous that Dr. Wachler has been doing epi-on crosslinking for 20 years, yet we STILL have ophthalmologists recommending corneal transplants and monitoring perfectly good eyes on the path to corneal transplant. My son has Down syndrome and can't communicate issues like double vision, specific pain, etc., so a corneal transplant would have been a major surgery with a high risk for total blindness. I am thankful for tools to find experts like Dr. Wachler, and for ethical professionals like Dr. Wachler. Sadly, too many are either incompetent or choose to violate the Hippocratic oath. From day one Jen, and Dr. Brian, Where very responsive, from the initial request for documents to the establishment of appointments and further the surgery. Day of surgery I went in with coke bottle eye glasses to leave with 20/20 vision and in the coming weeks I will end up with 20/15 vision. I'm late writing this review but here it goes. It's been 8 months since I had the i-brite treatment and my result is amazing. Thank you Dr. Wachler. This surgery has lead to a boost in my confidence and I am so grateful it is offered. I reached out to a voluminous number of eye surgeons and none of offered this procedure or wanted to do it as my brown spot was benign. Moving on the procedure, the procedure itself lasted less than 10 minutes. The staff was absolutely tremendous and made me feel at ease throughout the entire process/procedure. The procedure itself went well, and as stated, took less than 10 mins. My eye immediately after the procedure was stark white and then gradually turned red (super red) within a day. The redness lasted for about two weeks. I was nervous about this but would have been fine with a red eye versus a seriously pigmented eye. Once the red dissipated, my eye looked great. There are still minuscule red veins in the corner of my eye which were probably there before the procedure but nothing too noticeable. One thing to note is while using the prescribed eyedrops, my eye became lazy. I was not happy about this at all as one of my eye looked non responsive in photos. I thought this was permanent which madenme question whether I made the right decision. Thankfully, the lazy eye we disappeared after a month, I believe. This was the only scary thing I encountered. I've regularly went to my eye doctor and she was immensely impressed by my results. She even mentioned my experience with Dr. Wachler to her patient who are interested in a similar procedure. I believe him, paid him a ridiculous amount of money to later be told by another physician that my insurance does cover this procedure where Brian said they wouldn't an unfortunately the new doctor said my daughters procedure was not effective and we'd have to do the FDA approved procedure that my insurance would pay for and it works and will stop the disease dead in its tracks. I am shocked this guy is in practice still and why the FDA, State Attorney General or Medical Associations. Someone needs to stop this guy from putting more patients at risk! I had a PRK done here about 5-6 years back on my right eye. The doctor examined my eye and determined that a PRK was the best option because the cornea wasn't thick enough for lasik. I had the procedure done and it didn't heal right. He repeated the procedure 6 months later and again, it didn't heal right. Two years later, I went to see another expert doctor who examined the eye only to tell me that the cornea is thick enough and lasik would have been a better option. He tried a procedure to fix what didn't heal and it didn't work. Two years later, I went to see yet another expert doctor. He worked at an institute that had a MRI machine. He examined me and also told me that my cornea is thick enough to have had the lasik done. He also took an MRI of the eye to take a deeper look and concluded that it couldn't be fixed without a corneal transplant. In the mean time, the vision in this eye is severely distorted. My left eye is basically doing all the work. I went to get my Real ID yesterday at the AAA office and I failed the vision test for this eye. I now have to go to the DMV for them to evaluate my vision further. The thought of having my drivers license taken away from me takes everything out of me. How do I get around Los Angeles where a car is necessary? To this day, I receive newsletters from Boxer Wachler Vision Institute with only well outcomed comments from patients. NEVER have I read a patients comment on a botched outcome. Please also read my initial review...my opinion still stands and I don't want to be repetitive. Summary: I had a (premature, radiation-induced) cataract in my left eye removed by Dr Brian last year (5+ stars for that!) and just had the right eye done. This time it was more like I was expecting (last time I couldn't tell that anything was done to my eye other than 20/20 vision afterward - yay!) in that this time I had some redness and that eyelashes-in-the-eye feeling for a week or so afterward, which is very common. Those issues are nearly gone, and again, my vision is great, and for the first time in years. Not only is it wonderful to have such a skilled and caring physician, but knowing in advance that you have someone working on your eyes that you can trust is a huge relief. I am super-picky and my whole experience with Dr Brian and his office has been wonderful. I am also a super-chicken and would have been in a total panic if I had to go to anyone with a lesser reputation. Any time you have anything done, including a simple haircut much less surgery, it is possible that something will turn out less than 100%...but with Dr. Brian, you know he will do the best job possible. I am thrilled with my results, and grateful for the peace of mind I had going into it. And I can now see the computer screen and sheet music on a stand crisply, I can see movie screens clearly and without astigmatism (yay!) , traffic signs well in advance, drive safely at night, on and on.... ! ! ! read more

I am happy some people have had success with this doctor, but for me it has been a bad experience. I was diagnosed with keratoconus when I was I'm 8th grade (2008) and it's progressed a lot over the years. In 2012 I was recommended to get epi-on cross-linking in both eyes. Only a few years later my eyes started to progressively worsen, and when I went back for another cross-linking (this time at the Cleveland clinic) I was told my right eye wasn't a candidate anymore because it had thinned too much. My left eye just got a second surgery (epi-off this time) It's disappointing such an expensive surgery did not work. It's disappointing I was recommended to have epi-on instead of epi-off, since research has shown that to be more effective (I was young at the time and really in denial of my condition, I was trusting whatever my doctors were recommending). We came to this doctor initially because he had a big name and seemed to be one of the more experienced doctor's, but as I get older and see more specialists I realize I regret getting my initial treatment with Dr. Boxer Wachler. read more

My fiance was diagnosed with keratoconus while in Las Vegas a few weeks ago. This affected his morale and he became significantly depressed. His eyes site was steadily deteriorating and even though we found Dr. Boxer to perform the surgery, he was still feeling a bit hopeless. We drove there from Las Vegas to meet Dr. Boxer and as soon as we arrived to the office, all of his staff greeted us with kindness and were supportive of my fiance who was very nervous and worried at this time. They did all the testing thoroughly and Dr. Boxer reviewed it and went over what he recommended. My fiance had to get intact in both eyes, Holcomb C-3R and would have surgery the next day. (Since Dr. Boxer has a special for those out of state to dedicate 3 days to run tests, do the procedure and follow discharge). The next day my fiance had the procedure done which all of his staff including Dr. Boxer made sure my fiance was aware of each step and what was to be expected. My fiance had to rest for the rest of the day (was in at 9:30am and out by 12:30pm). Interestingly enough by that evening, my fiance was telling me that the TV without needing his glasses "looks HD!" he was SHOCKED. At 6pm, my fiance received a PERSONAL CALL from Dr. Boxer to see how my fiance was doing and answered any questions. My fiance and I were mind blown! *in my experience Dr's don't call you* lol. The next morning, we did our follow up and Dr. Boxer made sure to show the changes through graphs and tests, which offered a lot of comfort for my fiance. His vision had some distortions, but told me it is still 10 times better! Dr. Boxer even has his book in his office for free to patients, and was willing to personally sign it when my fiance asked. We also got a very cute Boxer Dog stuffed animal names "Iris". Our Experience here has been ABSOLUTELY Wonderful! We are so happy we got to meet Dr. Boxer and his staff. Everything started with a diagnosis from my Optometrist, Dr. Gerry Gee. My optometrist is incredibly knowledgeable, so his reference to Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler was trustworthy. I had my surgery less then 24 hours ago with Dr Brian and I have zero pain and am 100% normal. I had an intact done in my right eye and Holcomb c3r. I was terrified before the procedure. I was Diagnosed with Keratoconus over 5 years ago but I was too scared to do the procedure. The concept of anyone touching my eyes was horrific. I don't wear contacts or fake eye lashes or anything because I hate anything in my eye so this was like the worst thing in concept. Finally my DR said My Keratoconus was getting worse and I could either do a less invasive procedure now or get a cornea implant. I did tons of research. Hours and hours of research and determined Dr Brian was the best. You cannot underestimate how important experience and volume of operations are. He has done it all and seen it all and is the guru. I flew in for the procedure. I was terrified at the post op appointment and grilled the entire staff who handled my interrogation very well. Day of I was given a Valium and a painkiller. 30 min later I was relaxed and ready to go. Intac took less then ten minutes and it was a bit like a laser light show. IT WAS SO EASY AND PAINLESS! I spent so much time stressing and freaking myself out over nothing. Seriously I felt nothing. Then I moved on to Holcomb c3r. Having your eyes open for that long is weird but with Valium and Carlos (the best tech ever) cracking jokes it is totally fine. No pain once again. After the procedure I went back to the hotel (Beverly Wilshire (highly recommend) and I had a big lunch and another Valium and painkiller and went to bed. Night time same thing big meal, meds and nightly night. Did I really need the painkillers and Valium after the procedure? No, but honestly they knock you out and after having your eyes open for 30 min straight the best thing you can do is give them a break and go to sleep. I was given some sweet goggles to sleep in which are actually quite comfortable. For Intacs you will have an eye drop regime but it is not complicated. I did not experience any eye pain or foreign object sensations. Less then 24 hours later I am back to work and my eyes look fine. No pain meds at all. See pics for eyes day after and sweet googles. OMG! So I've suffered with K.C. for who knows how long. I was diagnosed in 2018 but suffered with terrible vision my whole life. This is an update to my first review of the i-brite procedure. It has now been about 8-months since my touch up. I want to remind everyone that this review is just based on my personal experience and not on anything else. I was nervous to go in for my touch up procedure because the doctor was very clear about the possible consequences. The actual touch up procedure was very similar to the first procedure. The only difference that I noticed is that it was only on the areas I was concerned with, which were the outer corners of my eyes. Unlike my first procedure I healed within the first month. Most of the redness is now gone. There is minimal scaring as my optometrist pointed out. Luckily it is not noticeable with the naked eye but this is definitely a concern I will keep checking. My eyes are improved but they are not "perfect" like the pictures on their website. I feel that after going through this lengthy and costly process I am more comfortable and grateful for the current state of my eyes. In all, my eyes are improved and feel like I can finally move-on. Throughout my adult life I have lived with bloodshot eyes. For at least the last six years I have been researching the condition and have met with three primary care physicians, two eye doctors and an allergist (that's SIX doctors). I read about so many life changing things he has done, but I did not have a positive experience with my eyes nor the office. On my first visit I arrived on time and proceeded to wait over 2 hours to be seen. A nice male nurse did a through exam, only to leave me for another (!) 45 minutes waiting until the doctor walked in. Dr Wachler finally walked in (did not say a word about the wait), and without telling me anything of the tests I did told me I needed a $2,000 heated massage procedure. Having read such great reviews I decided to do it then and there. Not only did it not help my eye condition, but my eye has been worse for over a month. I called the office to report this, and told them the cream he prescribed (that he told me I would do forever) was also worsening my condition (having tried some nights without) and they scheduled an earlier appointment then my 2 month check. But only by a week. When I again arrived on time I noticed the waiting room was full of people who looked angry. The lady at the desk said no warning to me, so after 20 minutes I asked her if the doctor was running late, and she said after checking,"at least 2 hours,"!!! Now, maybe he has changed some people's lives, but my eyes not only got worse, but the way they run that office is atrocious. In this day snd age the front desk should contact patients and warn them. I came into the Boxer Wachler Vision Institute hopeful but a definite skeptic... and left thrilled. I have a rare eye disorder called Keratoconus. Only a limited number of doctors in the United States treat this disorder with C3R/CXL (as it is currently in FDA Trials). I became contact intolerant earlier this year and my Keratoconus wasn't progressing enough to qualify for the FDA Trials. I had mild progression in my left eye and mild/moderate progression in my right eye. My optometrist warned me about Intacs ahead of time as he had a few other people with Keratoconus get it done (just not at the Boxer Wachler Institute), and they all had contact lenses fitting issues after the fact. C3R/CXL is not an option for people with Keratoconus, it's a MUST to stop the progression. To possibly improve our vision, there are procedures such as In-tacs, etc. Since my progression was mild/moderate, I qualified for Visian ICL (implantable permanent contact lenses). Needless to say, it's been about a day after my surgery (got C3R and ICL done) and I'm 20/20 both eyes. 20/16 on my left 20/30 on my right (which was the eye my Keratoconus/ Astigmatism was worse in). I am very thankful and happy. Would recommend anyone to go to Dr. Boxer Wachler Vision Institute... Yes, it's a little pricier (but not a whole lot compared to other Doctor's offices, I checked like ten places), but it is worth every penny. It's your eyes. Trust it to the Best. read more

Hi All, two years later and I am still doing great!! I am blessed that I still don't need to wear glasses to see and my keratoconus has not progressed any further. I was practically blind when I went to see Dr. Brian. My prescription was maxed out and I had horrific ocular migraines due to my keratoconus. Also, both my kids were diagnosed with keratoconus shortly after I had my treatments and I had Dr. Brian perform the Holcomb C3-R treatment on both and I am happy to say both are doing great and have also not had any further progression of keratoconus. Dr. Brian and his staff truly changed our lives for the better in every way. I would go see Dr. Brian again and do it all over again in a second if I had to. I have absolutely no regrets!!
