Dr. K has been my doctor for close to 3 decades. He's seen me get old and help me stay healthy. He's attentive and goes the extra mile to ensure we are well cared for. Marney is the second half of an amazing team and I am grateful they are always there when I need them. read more

He's the most understanding and patient Dr I've ever had. If I could give him a10 I most certainly would.

The best!! I felt well taken care of took care of every need I had even before I knew I needed an wxamunation

Only accept patients with certain criteria. If you are a new patient, chances are you will not be accepted due to Doctor's approval. Quite ridiculous! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Kawashiri for about 5 years now and am extremely happy to have him as my doctor. He is attentive, caring and shows deep concern for your health. He listens patiently to all your concerns and is very informative. He truly takes the Hippocratic Oath to heart. read more

What can I add that has not already been said? Yes, he's capable, yes, he's helpful, yes, he listens attentively, and yes, he explains everything very well. But beyond that, Dr. K. is just a very nice person. He treats you like a person, too. And that is a very precious quality and behavior that must require exceptional energy, effort and discipline to maintain in a health care system that is overrun with profitability concerns and insurance constraints. My wife and I both see him as our PCP. We get emails from him, following up on labs and visit issues, at 11pm at night. He's clearly shifting things that do not require patient contact into his own personal time, which means he's putting in effort that goes above and beyond that which is required, so that he can maintain an excellent standard--his own standard--of care. I am moved by the effort this doctor makes year after year to ensure that our health is maintained. You would be very fortunate to have him as your primary care physician. read more

I'm incredibly grateful to have Dr. Kawashiri as my doctor. It's rare to find someone so knowledgeable, attentive, and compassionate. He listens carefully, understands your concerns from your perspective, and treats you with genuine respect. He also responds promptly, sometimes even on weekends or late in the evening, showing how much he cares. I feel very fortunate to be under his care.. he's truly the best! read more

I'm trying to find a new doctor in my area. The gerontology practice I went to said I'm not old enough. I'm 67. So I decided to try an internist. This guy haD 5 stars. Their phone system is one where you have to go though navigation hell to get to the right department. After 10 minutes on hold with no option to leave a message I gave up. read more

Pretty much all the wonderful reviews I have read about Dr. David Y. Kawashiri tell it like it is. I will add one more thing though. When I have mentioned to other doctors that Dr. Kawashiri was my primary physician, they nod in approval or smile. One doctor in particular told me that no one works as hard as Dr. Kawashiri, not even himself. Works hard because he truly cares. This has been a life changer for me. I have a doctor I can trust! What a gift, what a blessing! I am so grateful to him. Thank you Dr.Kawashiri. Having you in my life has been a game changer. read more

After having a series of medical issues as a teenager, I knew how important it was to find a great doctor once I moved to Los Angeles 4 years ago. I saw two doctors within UCLA, and just wasn't impressed. I'm not even sure they looked me in the eye. But once I saw Dr. Kawashiri I knew he was my big DR. I'll be honest, on one hand I kind of don't want to write this review because I want to be greedy and don't want to share one of the best of the best. Lol. On the other hand, I kind of feel like I owe it to him. Dr. Kawashiri and his staff, in all serious, are a god send. I'll break it down for you. Once you enter the office, the front desk is always welcoming and nice, which is really great when you probably look and feel like shit. Now, you're gonna wait a hot moment for Dr. K but it's worth it. There is a 100% chance a nurse that comes to get you in the waiting room is gonna be nice and excited to see you. It makes me somewhat sad to see here on yelp that they are nice to everyone and not just me. They really make you feel special. Haha Now the real deal: Dr. Kawashiri. Dr. Kawashiri is either the most intelligent doctor out there or is secretly a medical intuitive. Both of the aforementioned qualities are amazing, however I find Dr. Kawashiri's compassion for his patients and passion for his practice inspiring. Dr. Kawashiri is thorough and he takes his time with you. In addition, his follow up is better than mine and yours combined. I'm gonna clarify this, he will personally call you. All jokes aside, Dr. Kawashiri and his staff really do treat you like family. If you have an ailment, a concern, or feeling scared, then I want you to have confidence that making a call to Dr. K is a call to be taken care of by the best of the best in the medical industry. I plan on being a patient of Dr. K until he retires. After that, I'll be screwed. read more

Wasn't really sure what would make a doctor five stars. Now I know. Dr. K comes across as Super Doctor, addressing everything so thoroughly, making sure all of your questions are answered and understood. He went to Georgetown Medical and is part of the elite Cedars Sinai Medical Group, so I was pleasantly surprised by how much time and energy he gives to every patient. He also follows up test results by calling personally, again answering all questions thoroughly. I recommended him to my boyfriend, who was every bit as impressed after his physical. Dr K even gave him wrist guards for early stage carpel tunnel, apparently free. Five stars, hands down. read more

This review is long overdue. Dr. Kawashiri has been my primary care physician since I moved here a year ago, and I can say without a doubt that he is the best internist/doctor/healthcare professional I have ever met. When I moved to the area, I looked on Yelp for a 5-star doctor and I'm so glad I found him! Dr. Kawashiri is one of a kind when it comes to the attention and care he provides. He is an excellent listener, remembers details from conversations months ago, and takes the time to ask the right questions to get to a proper diagnosis. I've never felt rushed during my appointments, even though I usually come with a list of questions and concerns. =) He is also the hardest working internist I have ever met. He once called me on a Friday @ 9pm to give me my test results from an appointment two days earlier. I was in a loud restaurant at the time and didn't recognize the number, but picked up anyway. After several seconds of confusion, I finally realized it was him. I was completely surprised and blown away by his willingness to follow-up on a Friday evening, when any normal doctor would have waited until Monday, and usually outsourced it to another staff member or machine/recording. He is also ahead of his peers in providing excellent care via email, whether it's for a specialist referral, ordering prescriptions, or giving great advice. And his replies are super quick, which I appreciate given today's societal expectations for Twitter-fast responses. The reason I'm posting my review today is because I was recently faced with a choice between two different surgical procedures, with a sizable cost difference. I wanted to get his opinion, so I shot him an email one afternoon. He got back to me just 12 hours later, at 3am - insane! After further discussion via email, he ultimately recommended the option I ended up taking, and I'm glad I did - it was the right choice for me. The nurses and staff in his office are very nice and helpful, too. He accepts Blue Cross and I've never had any issues with billing. His office doesn't validate parking in the building, but I haven't had a problem finding street parking east of Robertson at any time. I generally schedule early morning appointments, when it's easier to find parking and you know your appointment is going to start on time. While you may need to wait a few weeks for your first appointment or months for your annual physical, whenever I'm sick, I can usually see him within a week. If you're looking for a new doctor and not in need of urgent care, ask the office when he'll be open to take new patients - he is worth the wait! (Again, not if you're in need of urgent care!) read more

I lived in Florida basically my entire life. Had Doctor after Doctor do too many tests, labs, and referrals out to other Doctors. Since I have had Dr. Kawashiri I have had no need to spend days of my life doing all that for nothing, really. Since seeing him I have lost over 30 pounds. He has been able to eliminate 3 medications I used to take. He is thorough and communicates directly with you in a timely manner. Others on here that are not complaining about him but are complaining about the office are wasting people's time that are actually looking for a Doctor they can trust. If you have a problem with the staff you don't put it on the yelp site as a complaint about the Doctors care. Now my husband sees him and my daughter will see him as soon as she turns 18. I highly recommend Dr. Kawashiri. He changed my life and that is why I trust him with it. read more

Great doctor. It feels bizarre to write a review of my doctor on Yelp, especially since its not in prose, nor is it funny in any way...but remind me when you see me, I do have a great doctor joke. Dr. Kawashiri is very knowledgeable (UCLA & Georgetown degrees), and he takes the time to talk you through all the tests, really making you feel comfortable to be his patient. His office is accessible, and all the staff were very friendly. Minus one star because he made me fast for my blood tests, and I left hungry ;) read more

Best doctor ever! He's always available when you need him and responds to emails in a timely manner. Wouldn't go to anyone else!!!

Well, I just left the office and the pharmacy suggested. The Doc was great, seemed very friendly, caring and sincere. The staff was friendly, very helpful and cheery. My specific nurse was really nice and made me feel in good hands. Park on the street for free because the underground will kill you with their 1.50 every 15 min. Also plan for some cusion time because there might be people there before you. Over all it was a great experience!! read more

I first saw Dr. K in 1994 when I moved to CA after college, and I think it was while he was still interning and building a patient base. I was so happy with how attentive he was and was equally thrilled to have found a doctor that addressed all my concerns and questions. (Coming from a hypochondriac, this is a big deal). I referred my boyfriend (now husband) to him and he appreciated his incredibly caring approach too. I'm talking -- calls back from the doctor himself within a day of leaving a message with his staff. Calls back to go over test results. (True, these are things that one would normally expect from a doctor, but something so hard to find in this day and age of HMO's, etc. etc.) I was so sad to move over the hill because it was too far from his office. After about a year of making the drive of over an hour when not feeling well -- I made a decision to find another primary doctor, but I miss Dr. K immensely. I still have yet to find another Doc in the Valley who is as attentive and caring as Dr. Kawashiri. I miss him! read more

Words cannot express how grateful I am to be Dr. Kawashiri's patient. He has been my primary doctor for over 8 years. He is incredibly knowledgeable, with both a depth and breadth of knowledge that I have not seen in any other doctor. He is kind and caring, with a bedside manner that puts one at ease. He is also very responsive, helping me with time-sensitive questions and issues when they arise. Even though I moved an hour away, I am fiercely loyal to Dr. K and wouldn't dream of switching to a closer doctor. Someone else described him as "one of a kind," and that is so true. He is the best! read more

He's great! I can't say enough good things about Dr. Kawashiri. He is super smart, very kind, and one of the most flexible and amenable doctors I have ever had. I have frequently found myself in the predicament where I am out of town and realize that I forgot to pack my migraine medication or else I develop some ailment on vacation, and Dr. Kawashiri is very easy to get in touch with (a rarity), and he has come to my rescue by calling in meds for me. His office is pretty nice, and they usually play interesting things on the slick HD TV hanging in the waiting room (e.g., Big Blue Planet). I usually don't have to wait more than 20 minutes, and the receptionist and nurses are always nice. When I developed a weird ear issue and couldn't hear out of one ear, he fit me in the same day. read more

I just recently saw Dr. Kawashiri for a physical exam. He is fantastic! His office staff is very friendly, and Dr. Kawashiri, only running 5 min late, apologized. My previous doctor would run an hour late and would never apologize. Dr. K is thorough, understanding and is an excellent communicator. He asked me several times if I had any questions, or if there is anything else he can help with. I'm thrilled to have finally found an excellent doctor! read more

Dr. Kawashiri is hands down, the very best doctor I've ever experienced! Having been treated by other doctors after moving out of state and back, Dr. K (and his staff) are absolutely THE BEST! Besides from being very thorough and knowledgeable, his communication skills and follow up are outstanding. In a world where everything is " all about making $", Dr. K is genuinely a good guy who actually cares about his work and most importantly, his patients. Honest, caring, attentive and takes his time to actually listen to you and answer any and all questions. I repeat, SIMPLY THE BEST! No complaints here whatsoever. read more

Wow, is what I have to say. I've lived in a lot of different places in my life, and I've been to a lot of doctors. Dr. Kawashiri is by far the best I've ever seen. He's sincere, thoughtful, sharp, and cares. Wow. The staff was amazing over the phone talking to me before my first visit. They were even nicer when I showed up. They are very sincere people. The office was efficient and well run. Dr. Kawashiri didn't rush me, asked me good questions, and spent more time with me than any other doctor has in 1 visit. He's just a great person, and that sets him apart from every other doctor I've been to. read more

Dr. Kawashiri has been my doctor for awhile now. I just googled the office number to call and make an appointment and saw on yelp that he isn't taking on any more patients. I am SO lucky I found him when I did, just by luck, and that I am one of his patients. He is the best doctor I have ever had, and any time I have a question he is there. He is not hard to reach at all, and I feel so secure having a doctor like that. I couldn't have found a better doctor than him. He is the best. And just an awesome person in general. Thanks for being so great Dr. K! read more

It's funny, I was compelled to write a review, because I read some unfair reviews of our Pediatrician and thought maybe I should check on our family Doctor, Dr. Kawashiri, just in case. I shouldn't have worried. The reviews are all stellar, as they should be. Our family has been seeing Dr. Kawashiri for 17 years, and I can not say enough great things about him. He is thorough, kind and patient and provides excellent care. Every thing good I read in other yelpers reviews are all exactly what my experience has been too. So I guess this review is unnecessary :-) read more

He is compassionate, attentive, responsive, sincere, honest, highly intelligent and clever at the same time, and friendly. You never doubt for one second that he truly cares about you as a patient. He works long hours and is always busy, but still manages to find time to respond to questions or concerns. He goes above and beyond to take care of his patients. The way Dr. Kawashiri speaks makes me respect him even more. No time pressure, honest and sort of relaxed. The doctor is probably fantastic (the reviews here seem to reflect that), but the front office staff is HORRIBLE. So much so that, even though I knew I was lucky to be accepted as a new patient, I walked out of my first visit without even meeting the doctor. The staff has that "I'm just here to earn a little money, and I hate my job, so maybe I'll help you and maybe I won't" attitude. They're just not into it or even remotely professional. After being kept waiting, and dealing with the attitude of the staff, I finally just got up and walked out. Then someone called me and proceeded to ARGUE with me, telling me they HAD come out to get me. Um, there was no one else in the waiting room, I think I would have noticed if you had come for me. So, a bad experience in the waiting room, and a bad experience on the phone. Ugh. No. read more
