I wear scleral lenses, and found Melamed Eye Care who is one of the few optometrists in Los Angeles who is able to provide this specialized service. He took the time to properly fit me with a new lens and even worked with my insurance company so that my out-of-pocket cost was basically nothing. I really appreciated his knowledge, professionalism, and willingness to help make the process affordable. Highly recommend for anyone needing specialty contact lenses. read more

This place is amazing it will put a smile on your face just on how nice Dr Fouad and Scarlett are! Scarlett is super sweet and makes you feel at home and has a positive vibe about her, she just makes you feel happy being around her. Dr Fouad is the coolest! He has such a friendly vibe and is an interesting soul with a lot of positive aspects he shares in discussion. I felt relaxed and in good hands but was pleasantly surprised that my whole day felt uplifted after being around and talking to these two read more

I've been coming here for 8+ yrs easily. Love the doctor- he's great. The staff however- well... leaves much to be desired. I contacted the staff while abroad on Fri April 28th to place an order for contact lenses- they mentioned sure, they'll send me a link and they can ship them to me. I said I prefer to pick them up and would do so the following Monday May 1st. They then sent a msg stating that they didn't have enough for a yr supply but had 2 boxes but they would give me those and order the rest and then ship them, they also mentioned a link for payment would be sent out shortly. I once again said I'd pick them up... and I'd be sending payment as soon as I received the link. Fast forward to Fri May 5th and no email- no text. I didn't make it on time to the doc office on Monday due to flight delays then, you know work/life. So today Fri at 3:10pm I msg stating that I never received the link and still needed the lenses. No response. I msgd again at 3:38 that I was on my way... No response. I get there at 3:50pm they're on their cellphones- and I mentioned my unanswered texts- after I told them I was there to pick up lenses. One of the ladies says "oh we've been so busy today... up until just now... 10 min before we close". Sure. Long story short, the order was NEVER placed. I left after paying $400+ with nothing. Not even 1 box. I paid for a year supply of contact lenses that I had asked to be placed 7 days ago.. and now I have to wait an additional 5 days. Again- the Doctor is great... get new staff. I wasted my time (granted it's only an 8-10 min drive, each way) and unfortunately have to go back again for something that could have been answered with 1 sentenced. I have receipts. read more

Melamed Eye Care Optometry - Optometrists Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Great doctor, we are going to him for past 5 years, he spend time , listen , very professional, I usually get red eye by end of each winter, he give me eye drop to fix the problem read more

The dr is so very, very nice but the staff is lacking. Not only have they been unfriendly each time I have been there, they do not call their customers back when there is a legitimate problem. And while Dr. Melamed is super nice and even rechecked my eyes last year when things didn't seem quite right, he stood by his prescription. But here I am, almost an entire year later, and I am struggling with my sight. The glasses prescriptions are not right and I have to keep sending back glasses. Also my new script he gave me last year is WAYYYY stronger than my previous one (which, granted, was years ago, so I expected an increase but nothing like a .75 increase -- which is a lot for somebody who usually doesn't change or only goes up by .25)... it's so intense that everything feels surreal and uncomfortable. My glasses give me headaches and I see blurry through the progressives when I try to read, and I have not "adapted." I even got a new pair and the same thing happened. I've been working on the monovision for the lenses (since multifocal lenses were odd and uncomfortable) which is getting slightly better... but I still see super blurry for anything close (can't read a thing), and then kind of fuzzy everywhere else (like street signs and subtitles for movies -- highly uncomfortable). What is the point of progressives or doing monovision if everything is still blurry? If they had returned the call I left for them last week I wouldn't be writing this C+ review (at best). Now I just made an appointment elsewhere -- hoping they get the prescription level right because something is obviously off. I hope all the lenses I bought aren't a waste when a new dr takes a look at my eyes because I really don't think I ever got the correct prescription for my vision. Oh, and also, the cost was $210 last year! If you're on a very tight budget like me, please don't forget to ask before making the appointment. That sticker-shock has also made me refrain from going back. My friend has great glasses and she said she had a great appointment at Target optical for $70. I think that's where I'm going next and I don't like bigbox stores. I feel bad for leaving a mediocre review because he's so nice and is giving of his time and he replies to emails. But his staff does not, and they come across as unfriendly and they did not return my call. I'd have better luck emailing the dr, but the question I had was for the office. And unfortunately, the cost is expensive and more costly when you have to keep ordering different lenses, etc. Maybe other patients were lucky to get the correct Rx, but it didn't happen for me. I'm "graduating" into progressive lenses and that is part of the issue, but I don't see why that should still leave me disabled when trying to read, and giving me migraines because of the super-duper increase for my distance vision. read more

I got a fantastic(!!!) deal here from Amazon Local for my sissy. She was neglectful with her eyes for the past few years (how can that be--they're the windows to our souls?!) and when I saw the deal I knew I had to pounce. It was about time she see the world as it is. Not to mention the ability to read street signs while driving is not to be taken for granted. *Darn those unexpected passenger u-turns* I was already happy with the ease of booking the appointment--A++!! :) We got there early on the day and they were accommodating and fit her in almost an hour prior to her original time. Ooh, another smiley face from me. :) Then, we see the doctor. I, of course, tagged along inside the examination room like a good little sister for moral support. All I can say is Dr.Melamed was extremely knowledgeable and took his time with the examination, answering all of our questions and even making us laugh. (2-for-1!) His staff was very friendly and excellent at recommending frames. Ray Bans--affordable AND stylish?! Gimme, gimme! I wouldn't hesitate recommending this facility, and I should know, I've been a blindy bat since the tender age of 10. :( Dr. Melamed is top-notch and highly recommended! read more

Dr. Melamed and his team are great! I always feel really well taken care of. Neredia at the front desk has also always been super communicative and accommodating. Other pluses: Very centrally located, and there's always street parking directly in front. Yesterday morning I woke up with what felt like the biggest eyelash stuck right in the center of my eye, and didn't know what to do. I don't currently have insurance, so I frantically one-eye searched my way through Google for alternatives to the ER/urgent care, and came across Dr. Melamed's office. The front desk staffer was very sweet and was able to get me a same-day appointment. Once down there the same lady who made my appointment helped me fill out the medical history sheet since I was forced into pirate mode by my frustratingly annoying eye pain. Once I saw Dr. Melamed, I was out the door in 3 minutes flat with a diagnosis and a prescription for antibiotics - he knew exactly what it was and confidently sent me on my way with what I'd need to go to war with the infection. He even left a note on my prescription to go with the generic brand for the antibiotics which my pockets happily agreed with. I just left my follow up appointment and the pain has almost completely gone away. I can't thank these guys enough for taking me in under such last minute circumstances and scheduling me a follow up first thing the next morning. I've learned a ton from this experience, and am pretty sure I know where I'm headed for contact refills (if I can ever learn to trust them again) once I get insurance. Thanks team! read more

Been coming to Dr. Melamed's office since 2016 and have gone nowhere else since. I no longer live in West Hollywood but travel from downtown LA to there because I enjoyed my experience with him and his staff so much. Melamed is very informative and you could tell he loves what he does. He is very patient and makes sure you leave there with exactly what your prescription is. The staff there has always been very helpful and kind. The staff is also very informative and detailed about what your insurance covers and what you pay out of pocket. I would definitely recommend that you go there and check them out for all your eye care needs!!! read more

Dr. Melamed finished my eye exam within 5 min and the prescriptions he gave to me, for both contact lenses and glasses, are terrible. I thought I need some time to get used to the new prescription, but it has been four months, I see things blurry all the time. They charged me $90 contact lenses fitting fee by giving me a free repair of contact lenses. Now I have to throw away the contact lenses I bought under his prescription and do another eye exam! Do not go to this place. read more

Dr. Melamed and his staff are wonderful! I was referred by my ophthalmologist, who wanted me to see a specialist. This was the most uncomfortable and unprofessional doctor's office I have ever been to in my life. I have had to wear glasses since I was 4. I am 26 now. I have seen many eye doctors over the years and this experience was awful and could have been potentially harmful to me. Lets start with the big stuff first. At the end of my routine exam, Dr. Melamed dilated my eyes and then left me in the patient room for about 10 minutes. Upon his return he simply told me I was good to go. Trusting that perhaps he knew what he was doing, I left. Upon driving home my eyes felt like they were burning my brains out because the light sensitivity was so severe. I didn't have sunglasses with me nor did he give me any when I left his office. So, I'm about 3 miles away and as I was writhing in my driver's seat wondering why the hell he dilated me and sent me away, he calls my cell phone, "Hi its Dr. Melamed, I'm so sorry I just remembered...I dilated you didn't I?" I said , 'Yes. You did. I was just wondering about that...." "...Can you come back in to the office so I can finish up? So sorry." I've seen "floaters" my whole life but I swear I see them more now ever since that day. So if that isn't bad enough, here is the rest: There was no receptionist when I came in. I walked in to an awkward and empty office. Dr. Melamed gave me the paperwork himself and since he never properly introduced himself to me at all, I actually mistook him for the receptionist at first. Usually when you are a new patient anywhere, the doctor at the very least introduces themselves and asks your name. He did neither of these things and was also less than cordial so when I later found out he was my doctor I just immediately felt uncomfortable. I asked him about the stye in my eyelid. All he said was, "are you doing warm compresses?" I replied, "no, why?" He did not answer my question and instead moved on with the exam. It wasn't until my follow up exam (which I reluctantly went to) that he addressed my question because I asked him again. I honestly don't know how there are so many 5 star reviews. If you can, avoid this place. You'd seriously be better off going to Wal-Mart. read more

Okay, this is getting relentless. I wrote a negative review AGES ago and Dr. Melamed will not let it go, even though my husband specifically asked him to leave us alone months ago. I am not even going to humor his newest allegations other than to say that I have never attempted to extort him. I was, and remain, unhappy with the quality of work done by his practice, something that is exacerbated by the fact he will not leave me or my husband alone over a yelp review. To be clear, I never complained about the doctor not being available for appointments, I complained that his staff repeatedly sold special order frames out from under us and that my husband cannot wear the prescription comfortably. I wrote that review with no intention of getting any money. To date, over the 5 years that I have been using Yelp, Dr. Melamed is the only business owner who has ever contacted me and offered to pay me to remove a negative review, something I didn't even know business owners did. He broached the topic, not me, not ever. As I've mentioned in many of my yelp reviews, I have a pretty serious bone marrow disorder, one that is exacerbated by stress, one that could be exacerbated by being fallaciously accused of doing things like trying to extort doctors. My husband, being very frustrated by how seriously out of control this situation has gotten, emailed Dr. Melamed to ask him to please leave us alone, that even the reviews he tried to pay to me remove were fair and balanced, and that his persistence in threatening us has gone on long enough. The good doctor replied, essentially saying that karma is a bitch and that i deserve this illness due to writing a negative yelp review. He then followed up his sage advice about karma by stating that he plans on doing everything within his power to make our lives miserable. A DOCTOR said this. About a patient with a potentially terminal illness. OVER A YELP REVIEW. LET THAT SETTLE IN. This doctor feels that a -3- star yelp review is ON PAR with a potentially life threatening bone marrow disorder. (i'm not sure he understands karma) If you're cool with seeing someone who pays off people to remove negative yelp reviews (because really, i'm assuming i'm not the only one he's done this with, though i could be wrong. this statement is an opinion, not a fact), invokes karma on people with serious genetic disorders, and threatens to make their lives miserable over a 3 star yelp review, go for it. That said, I am sure there are better alternatives for optometrists out there who will not harass you, threaten you, make light of serious health ailments, and consistently sell frames out from under you in the greater Los Angeles area. read more

I am so pleased that I came across Melamed Eye Care. For a really long time I have been living with dry, bloodshot eyes from wearing contacts. Last week I expressed my concerns to the doctor and he thoroughly checked out my eyes and recommended that I use the disposable contacts. I have been wearing them for a week and my eyes are so much better. I am very picky about doctors offices, especially since I have had many bad experiences. I was especially grateful that they were on time with my appointment. Also, there is parking in the back - very hard to find in California!! Go here! read more

Last week, I woke up with pinkeye. I know. Embarrassing. I don't have a eye doctor (or any doctor, for that matter) in Los Angeles, so I needed to find someone who would be willing to fit me in that same day (same morning, if possible), take a few minutes to look at me, and prescribe antibiotics. This was not easy. After about 37 phone calls, I discovered Melamed Eye Care. It was 9:20. "I'm pretty sure I have pinkeye. Can a doctor fit me into his/her schedule to prescribe antibiotics?" "Can you be here in 10 minutes?" Yes I could. And the very kind, soft-spoken Dr. Melamed looked at my eyes and prescribed me wonderful, eye-saving antibiotics. And there was much rejoicing. So thank you, Dr. Melamed, and your wonderful staff for all the good work you do. Oh, and they took my insurance with absolutely no hiccups and very little effort on my part. read more

I Purchased a LivingSocial deal for Eyeglasses and exam, Everyone in the office was very nice, They had a very good selection of eyeglasses and I enjoyed my experience. The Eye appointment was quick and I was probably in and out of the office in 20 mins. One thing that was a nice change of pace is when I showed up at 10:15 for my 10:30 appointment and about 5 mins later in typical LA fashion a guy came in for his 10:00 appointment. Instead of putting him ahead of me they brought me in first and said he can sit and wait... Look forward to picking up my glasses when they arrive. read more

The most incompetent team ever!!! Avoid at all cost!! How can a claim for a routine eye exam still not paid? Its has been months, literally months. Honestly I am furious by the constant calls and bills sent to me. Processing insurance claims cannot be that hard! Heck that is how you guys get paid!! My insurance was verified in the office BEFORE I enter to receive eye exam. Since exam, I have been called more the 10 times telling me they cannot process claim because I do not have insurance. I finally three way call the office and my insurance company, they confirmed to Dr. Melamed office that I do indeed have insurance and they were in network providers. BAAM, you would think that would be the last I would hear from them.... Wrong.... How??? Blows my mind!!?? How can you guys possibly mess this up now.. A months later I receive a bill for eye exam... --_-- I called my insurance company and they told me Dr. Melamed office submitted a bill but code incorrectly and they cannot process. I was advised to call the Dr. Melamed office to have them resubmit another claim with correct code. I called the Dr. Melamed office, they advised me again that I did not have insurance that covers this procedure and that I will need to pay bill. --_-- Seriously. Dr. Melamed & Staff are the BEST in West Hollywood. I have strong astigmatism. And years later my vision has changed. I'm going into the Bi-Focal phase. He gave me the best recommendation for my vision (progressives) and lifestyle. You can also book appts online. If you don't have time to call or its after office hrs, their online booking system makes it so much easier. Dr. Melamed is professional + intuitive in his field. He can determine what areas of your vision needs assessing, tests + examinations. If you tell him that you have been having "X" problems in your vision/eye, he will be able to pin-point "Y" cause. Dr. Melamed has the education, experience, training & skills. I will continue to recommend him to all of my clients and friends. Thank you Dr. Melamed & Staff, you guys rock! read more

I found a deal on Living Social for $80 for contact lens.. that's really as good as it gets. Even Walmart was like $120. I won't bore you with details. But considering this guy has his practice is Beverly Hills (ish) area, he is so down to earth, the staff is friendly and so helpful. Unexpected behavior in LA. I've been to eye doctors in past and have a very high astigmatism, so they often get frustrated since they can't offer the best prescription for my eyes. I was really intimidated before meeting Mr. Melamed also most waitin to be blown off by another doctor. But voila! My eyes found their match. Dr. Melamed was so patient, very knowledgeable, very helpful and really listened to all my problems. He offered different suggestinos and ordered my lens twice after he found out that I wasn't happy with the first ones. The third ones had to be picked up and one of his assitant's left it near the door for me (per my request). and I was really amazed that they carefully put in a little bag with my name tags- great service. Superb service. Dr. Melamed and his staff provided a great eye care experience for me. The quick and dirty is I left my job (and vision plan) for law school and found Melamed Eye Care through a great online deal (rhymes with blamazon jokal). So glad I did. Details, details... Dr. Melamed and his staff set-up an appointment for me fairly quickly. It was my first time with them, so honestly I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of service and selection. Street parking is accessible but they've also got some in the back. Once I got in, the staff was well prepared to handle my online coupon. I was expecting that I'd get the run-around or it'd take a while for them to figure out what service I was using. But they handled it like pros. I went in for the exam, saw that the facility was very clean, and there was a wide selection of frames. Initially, my concern was that while the coupon was huge, their selection would leave something to be desired. They definitely have all the latest frames and top brands. Dr. Melamed is very knowledgeable of his practice and conducted a painless, timely exam. The receptionist later helped me find the perfect new pair of frames that were distinguished from my previously rimless style, to a thicker pair of Ray Bans. After making my selection, I received my glasses a few weeks later. Unfortunately, the prescription was off. This may have been an issue that cropped-up at the lab that produced them. (I have an astigmatism in both eyes and with all the protections/coatings I get for my lenses, I'd imagine it's a very technical creation process.) I told Dr. Melamed and he saw me that Sunday (I called Thursday). Without any questions or hesitation, Dr. Melamed gave me another exam at no extra charge. They were finished in about 4 days but by this time I'd moved to San Diego for school. The trek back up was daunting to say the least. But Dr. Melamed went the extra mile and priority mailed me my glasses for no extra fee. Since then, everything's worked out fine and I love my new glasses. Needless to say, Dr. Melamed's offices go above and beyond the call of duty. They're very much in step-with their patients' busy lives and usually have some great deals available. I'd go back without any hesitation and would definitely recommend their service. Trust me when is say, you won't be disappointed. read more

My boyfriend was long overdue for getting his eyes checked out and needed a new set of contacts so I used yelp on my phone to call a few doctors in the area. After calling a few other places around town who were more expensive, closed on a monday, or booked throughout the week I noticed this yelp deal and purchased it for him. To our surprise we were able to book an appointment that very afternoon. Street parking right in-front was very easy (I think there's a lot behind the office too), and the staff is friendly. I wish I could give Dr. Melamed more than 5 stars. He has single handedly restored my eye sight and changed the quality of my life (I can even see the subtitles in movies again and drive comfortably at night). I have had challenges with my eyes for years and have had issues with my contacts as well. My eyes were always sore and my vision was horrible. I worked with Dr. Melamed to get contacts that properly fit and that improved my vision. He is professional, kind and invested in making sure you are happy. I am grateful for his patience with me and his following up to make sure everything is going well and there were no issues with my lenses. I enthusiastically recommend him and would 100% go back over and over. I also love supporting an independent doctor that has been serving LA for over 20 years. Finally! A great Optometrist! Dr. Vazagov is amazing! I went into her office with 2 very inflamed eyes due to little abrasions over each one from my contacts. I was able to make a next day appointment. When I got there, parking was very very easy (metered on Beverly) and I got a spot right out front. Once I filled out the paperwork, I was immediately taken back. Dr. Vazagov was able to instantly identify the problem and gave me a prescription for antibiotic eye-drops and had me schedule an appointment for a contact fitting after my cuts healed. She even took the time to go over basic eye care facts with me, specifically about using contacts and a good solution. She's such a nice doctor, her office is clean, quiet and well decorated and the receptionist in the front is SO great! She's very friendly and personable and handled my insurance stuff very well (I have VSP). Highly recommended!! read more

My Incredible eye doc experience: Called and made an appointment. Showed up for the appointment and was immediately greeted by his staff and given paperwork to fill out. As soon as I was done filling out the paper work Dr. Melamed was ready to see me. He took his time talking with me and even did education without lecturing me (I wear my contacts way longer than advised). He was very pleasant and easy to talk to. I could tell he was being very thorough as he rechecked a few findings (that differed from my prescription). Dr. Melamed is so thoughtful about everything. He gave me all of my options, talked through my insurance clearly, and helped me pick out frames & contacts. Beside his amazing work, he's a pleasure to be around and to meet Optometrists, especially ones in big cities like LA never feel the need to go above and beyond and this man does without any hope of compensation. You can tell he loves what he does and cares about people. I plan on bringing him a gift when I go in for my checkup next month.
