Was in the mood for shawarma so ventured over to this area. Parking can be a bit tough so may be easier to order delivery. The pictures in reviews do it a lot of favors. I went with the gyro platter with roasted veggies & lettuce. I was looking for shaved gyro pieces and that is really not what I was given. It was essentially ground beef. Flavor-wise, it was fine. Not a ton of beef or veggies, covered well in the lettuce. The white sauce was much thinner than I am used to so not super balanced. The pita slices were clearly a few days on the older side and a little hard. But the biggest issue I had was the level of oil, everything was really covered in it as evidenced by how soaking the box was when I got it. The service itself was nice, fairly quick. They had the texture of a fried wing, meaning they were somewhat crispy and they had the slightly smokey taste of a charcoal grilled chicken wing as if it were made in your backyard on a beautiful sunny weekend. The yummy Mango Habanero sauce had a hint of sweetness with just enough heat to cause your nose to run, but it wasn't extreme. I was also impressed that the wings were finished with a sprinkling of fresh herbs... The Sambusa, vegetable and chicken, were good starters. I wish I had gotten more than 1 of each so that I could really grasp the flavors. Although both were good, I did enjoy the vegetable (mostly potato) sambusa more than the chicken. The food seems like it has the makings of being great...The salad was fresh, crisp and the vinaigrette was quite good. I really enjoyed the fresh sliced carrots and onions that most halal places don't offer (it's usually iceberg and if you're lucky you might get a couple pieces of tomato). I appreciated the extra sauces they provided but the white sauce is just ranch and even though the tahini sauce had good flavor, it was really thin and runny. The meat had a nice grilled flavor and the chicken was well cooked. Unfortunately, the beef was over- seasoned and cooked within an inch of its life. The flank was so tough and with pieces of tough tendon still attached made it very difficult to eat. This place is excellent! I have tried the beef shawarma wrap, chicken, and salmon with rice. I am impressed by the beef shawarma- it has just the right amount of seasonings and is not overly saucy or unhealthy. I love the addition of picked onions- so tasty! Hubby works down the block from this new spot and I have been wanting to try it since I first saw the sign go up and saw "Schawarma" on it. I haven't had good schawarma in so long, and I always wondered why more places didn't offer it in the Jamaica area. ANYWAY - hubby and I tried the Chicken Schawarma Wrap and the regular wings with buffalo sauce on the side. Hubby is very wary when it comes to trying new food and he honestly loved the wings. They were grilled to PERFECTION and they are totally different than all the regular wings in town - they had delicious tasting spices already cooked in (no sauce needed but I'm a buffalo sauce freak so I still used it). Sauce was also wonderful. I am going try every single wing sauce from this place because they all look great. The chicken Schawarma wrap was SUPER FRESH and delicious !! It came with lettuce, pickled red onion and Those yummy Schawarma spices! plus a delicious white sauce and spicy red sauces were YUM. The pita bread was fresh and not too flour-y at all. I might order without lettuce next time (just a preference) but it really was perfect. The service was SO friendly. I placed the order through Yelp and walked in about 5 mins later so I had to wait. I was excited to try this spot for delivery. The food seemed like it would be good. I ordered the vegetable sambusa, roasted potato side, and a chicken gyro platter. The food was pretty tasty until I pulled a long strand of hair out of my mouth while chewing. Instantaneously I felt sick. I got a full refund through the delivery service. I did call the restaurant to inform them of my concern. I did not appreciate how the restaurant handled it. They stated that they don't know how it happened and they all have on masks and hair nets. I would have preferred just an apology instead of them insisting they don't know how hair got in my food. Since we all know I'm not one to visit a place 4 star or below in taste - zaitun was on the list to visit. Situated in a conspicuous area of queens / we were delighted to find this place nearby! Zaitun Wings - loved the grilled wings - moist and succulent with outsides crispy. I do feel like there should be more flavor as I can't understand what the chefs flavor was because it tasted like chicken (which I'm not opposed). 2. Chicken shawarma Platter - portions were great and I can't complain at all. I do wish the chicken wasn't as dry. Otherwise the salad and dressing was wonderful. I would probably douse this in white sauce had I not wanted to try the chicken for itself 3. Homemade Hummus - this was good!!! Like your find in your Arab friends house Good! In NY the only places I have found who do grilled fish right and kinda reasonable in price are Greek. Until now! .$18 pompano fish here was amazing. I have never had this fish before -taste like porgy and bass had a baby. I had a side of yummy chickpea rice and roast vegetable.Generous portion gave me two hefty portions. I had also their original wings, baba and hummus. All good and generous in portion but the star is the grilled fish. If you're used to eating large wings, you've been eating chickens injected with a lot of hormones and that's not a good thing!!! I've tried the chicken as well as their beef platter which comes with 2 sides. I normally choose roasted potatoes and the rice with chick peas in gravy. I love rice so I'd prefer a larger portion than the avg person. The portions are generous unless you have a massive appetite like L. He eats a lot... I prefer the chicken but he liked the beef more. It didn't have enough texture for me. It was too soft, barely had to chew the meat so that was just odd. The platters don't taste like what you'd get at a halal truck. It's more Americanized. The food is better quality and the sauces are great but it would be great if they used more spices so it tastes more authentic. The fries are fantastic. I was able to track my delivery driver and receive text alerts about my order directly from the restaurant. The food came a good 30 minutes before the minimum estimated time!! We ordered Chicken Gyro Platter, Falafel Wrap and Wings, which are slightly different from traditional buffalo wings but still fantastic and similar enough. It's like buffalo sauce but more earthy. They are also more spicy than sweet but not crazy. Only thing missing was bleu cheese and celery but luckily we had some at home and the white sauce was a good alternative. Great job, Zaitun! I came to Zaitun Halal for a second day in a row. My first time trying this restaurant was yesterday and I am definitely going to be a regular. This establishment is very new as their grand opening was just this year. They serve fresh Mediterranean Halal food made to order only. The menu is broad but filled with healthy options and diverse palates. I myself tried the chicken gyro platter which comes with two sides and grilled pita bread slices. The chicken is marinated not only to perfection but to pleasure of many tastes. I say that because you can taste almost every spice and seasoning imaginable without it overbearing the texture of the meat. I'm talking cumin, lemon, oregano, garlic, onion, fresh herbs, etc. that you can taste in every single bite. The sides I had were chickpeas with rice and fries (yes I know double carbs). The rice was very light and flavorful and the fries fresh, crisp and lightly salted. Today I am trying the grilled beef platter with chickpea rice and roasted vegetables. First the barbecue wings did not even have a barbecue flavor and they were spicy. Small wings were very pricy for the size they were not worth the cost.
