We have only been there twice. It's decent. Big portion of rice. I've had better afghani rice at other places so it's not like I want all that rice. The chicken kebab was juicy. The falafels were nice as well. Salad was fresh and I like the variety of sauces. White spins sauce is very good. My little one got the chicken tenders and they were nasty. They did take it off the bill. But I hate being put in that awkward position of having to tell them something is disgustingly inedible. The place is clean and the service is great. Wow. I ordered doordash from here because I was staying in a hotel with no access to a car and man was it amazing. Got the lamb chops with rice and it came with a side salad. I got a side of cilantro mint chutney on the side. I also got these little lebanese samosa looking things. got the cube cake cinnamon roll thing and my husband loved it. This is always, always a good choice. Food is extremely fresh and flavorful. I've ordered probably 50 times and ONCE they missed a special instruction, and were great about fixing it. Tip for Naan wraps: we ask them to send unwrapped with the Naan separate, and assemble it when it gets here. That way it doesn't get soggy. Also, their falafel is really good, and not dry. It's good for what it is, and I do enjoy the fact that I can eat a relatively healthy meal at Zaitoon where at other similar eateries I find myself with fatty meat, on top of simple carbs, and slathered with "white" sauce. Calling it "white" sauce means you can kid yourself into thinking it's something healthy like yogurt instead of a mix of mayonnaise and sour cream. And maybe I haven't found that love connection at Zaitoon yet because I keep on defaulting to healthier meals. Specifically, I've had the grilled lamb over lettuce and the grilled chicken over lettuce. It's tasty and fresh. It's probably faster than a sit down restaurant. Prices are fair, even if they don't feel like a great value. Given the counter service, the plastic utensils, and the fast-food like seating, I can understand why one might expect the prices to be lower. But the quality of the ingredients are clearly a notch above. So yes. I like it. Yes, I will keep coming back. And I probably will keep on defaulting to healthier options. However, one day, I'm truly hoping to experience something that gets me from like to love. I'm open to suggestions. My hunch is that it will involve rice and white sauce, which is fine. Was visiting Albany for a day last weekend and had a chance to give Zaitoon Kitchen a try since it was very close to our hotel and not too far from the airport. Ordered via Grubhub and arrived about 10-15 minutes later to give them a call directly when I was at the front door. Given the current situation they actually bring the food out to the table or hand it to you directly by the entrance. Overall the process was quite smooth and efficient, I had to wait extra few minutes since I arrived bit early but they still have the food out for me well before the original quoted time. The Falafel salad was absolutely phenomenal, really crispy falafels fits quite well with the bed of greens and chopped onions. The wrap was quite nice as well but I thought the beef was a bit too salty, however its quite tender and juicy. Overall the prices I thought could be better but given the establishment of the place I could see how its a bit more premium. Definitely great food though and I'm happy to know next time I visit Latham area would definitely be giving this place another well deserved visit. read more

We had Zaitoon cater a large party at a rented space. The food was amazing and very plentiful. All our guests raved about it. The desserts were fabulous. The kibe, both with meat and a vegetarian version was excellent. The fish was super tasty. The eggplant dish was a favorite. The stuffed breads even tasted good cold the next day. Pretty disappointed. Got the chicken kabob wrap for 8 bucks (which is fairly priced I'd say). It's good sized and the chicken had some nice char from the grill and some nice tangy marinade, but the yogurt dill sauce was too much dill. Of course the wrap had tons of lettuce, but not a lot of onion, cuke, tomato, or onion. The biggest disappointment of the wrap was the naan...it was cold...like it had never been warmed. I certainly expected and prefer that a wrap like this be served in warm naan...the naan is a HUGE part of the sandwich. Additionally, the naan was really, really thin...like a tortilla thin. Imagine your chicken kabob naan wrap actually being served on a flour tortilla. That's what this was pretty much. Another disappoint was how long it took to get my wrap. I must have waited at least 10 to 15 minutes from when I ordered. The main cashier lady (who might be 1 of the owners) was struggling to fill orders, stay organized, run the cash register, and answer the phone and take orders. It really shouldn't have taken nearly that long. Anyhow, I see Zaitoon Kitchen as being a 1 and done kinda place for me. I don't think I'll be back. They have a parking lot for your parking pleasure by the way and they're located on a very busy 4 way stoplight corner. My wife said this was the best falafel she has eaten in the capital district. She gave me a small nibble and I agreed that it was excellent. We weren't looking for a large meal so we decided to try a couple of the wraps at Zaitoon. But first we needed to try the Mantu ($6) as an appetizer since people were saying how good it was. It's another ethnic version of a dumpling. These are stuffed with ground beef and onions. They are then topped with the house yogurt, chickpeas and mint. Really quite tasty. Management also surprised us with a complimentary order of Kadu ($5) - fried slices of squash with herbs, spices, house yogurt, and flakes of dill surrounded by slices of naan. It was pretty good. So as I hinted in the beginning, my wife ordered a Falafel Wrap ($7). For an additional $1 she could have had the Falafel Plate which comes with basmati rice, a side salad, and naan. So a "Plate" is really a deconstructed Wrap with rice. In any event, the falafel is worth returning for and whether to get a Wrap or the Plate, you can cross that fork when you come for it. My wrap choice was the Lamb Kabob Wrap ($9). My guess is that for the additional $4 for the Plate version with lamb chops, you likely get more lamb in addition to the rice. The lamb was tender and tasty. If you like lamb, you're very likely to enjoy the preparation here. There is no table service. You place your order at the counter and give your name. Beverages are in a nearby cooler and are all the standard non-alcoholic ones. There are not many tables and it is cold inside. But the food we've tried so far is delicious. read more

So excited about this place! I heard about it just a couple of months ago and I happened to be somewhat close to Latham today. I love Middle Eastern food and it's so nice to have another outstanding choice in the capital region area. Latham is seriously starting to become one of my favorite spots for a variety of excellent food choices. My favorite sushi spot is in the neighborhood. There is amazing dim sim just across the street and a fabulous Thai place right near this new, wonderful Middle Eastern restaurant. While it's a very small dining room with limited seating, they clearly do quite a lot of takeout business. I counted nine tables...a few four-tops, two- tops and one larger table for 6 to 8 people. There is also outside seating available. The staff is super friendly and the food is fantastic. I had the chicken kebab naan (wrap) and my companion had the beef kebab rice platter. I ate ton of that rice because it was absolutely delicious. We also started with a side of baba ghanouj. I love the homemade naan... it is slightly less thick and "bready" than traditional Indian naan (if that's what you're used to). I love the simplicity of the menu. The layout actually reminds me a little bit of Chipotle. That said, I'd rather come here than Chipotle any day. Plenty of vegetarian choices with enough options for meat eaters. From the outside, you might think this is almost fast food. It most certainly is not. You may order and pay at the counter and wait for your food to be prepared, but the similarity ends there. Walking in the door, I saw a clean restaurant with a small dining area. Some people chose to wait at a table for their order, and others in their car. That's typical in CovidTimes, I guess. They give you a blinking buzzer thing to let you know when your food is available. I ordered the beef and lamb naan wrap and French fries. The concept looked similar to a gyro. However, It was NOT slapped together like a gyro would have been. The food must have been cooked and prepared to order. It took a while. Maybe 15 minutes or so but definitely worth the wait. They advertised all natural foods, with grass fed meats and no antibiotics in the ingredients. It sure tasted fresh, so I believe them. The lamb and beef wrap was very flavorful and the sauce was like a slightly thinner tzatziki and combined with the meat and veggies deliciously. The naan, being thinner than a pita, didn't hold the sandwich together with the sturdiness of a gyro but then it had more flavor. It is unfair to keep comparing this to a gyro which it isn't, I'm simply stating the differences. Overall very good food. Would definitely return if I'm in the area again. read more

The menu is easy to follow - meat and rice, meat and salad or pita with meat. i selected the lamb chop salad. Lamb was seasoned finger licken good and salad was fresh and crisp including cukes, red onions, romaine with a milk/mayo based salad dressing topped with 4 loin lamb chops. Keep in mind your chops are not the size of steak house chops but are delicious. I alao like that families are very welcome since there is always a family dining there. Invited to a tasting this past saturday afternoon. Food was excellent. Chicken kabob was well seasoned and tasty, beef kabob, and lamb kabob were also really good... tender and flavorful. Bolagni, which is like a scallion pancake stuffed with vegetables, was really awesome... probably my favorite of everything that I had to eat. There was also eggplant which I did enjoy. Place was very clean. Staff very welcoming and very friendly. This is a really nice change of pace place for me and I can see myself stopping by and work this place into the rotation. One staff person told my significant other that they will soft open monday 6/5/2017 and grand opening the week after. There might be a write up coming in the Times Union (local newspaper) as well. I thought that the naan was a bit dense and it would have tasted better if it was a bit lighter. I also ordered a side of baba ganoush. It was ok, not the best I've had because it seemed to lack in flavor but maybe it just needed more salt. My husband got the lamb wrap and said it was great. Stoped by here after looking up Yelp. They sell Halal (cage-free and veggie-fed) meats, which was new to me. I ordered Lamb Kabob Wrap and Monty (stuffed dumpling with ground beef & onions). The lamb was tender and grilled to fine taste with Naan wrap outside. Mantu was unique but not worth coming back for it. First impression when walking in, small place with simple interior decorations, simple chair and table set ups. The lighting is a little dimmer in my opinion. You order food at the counter and when the buzzer goes off, you will go bring the food yourself to your table. It kind of seems like "fast food" style, but they are not particular fast, which means things are cooked and made fresh per order, at least it seems that way. I really enjoyed their kabobs, they are very juice and packed with tremendous amount of flavors, definitely one of the better ones I have ever had. The rice platter comes in a good size, with rice and vegetables. My one complain will be the white sauce, it is not as special as some other white sauce I encounter that can wake the dish up. You order your protein (chicken, beef, lamb) on a plate with rice or as a wrap. Or vegetarian plates. I ordered the Mantu: freshly made dumplings with ground beef and onions, simmered in their house yogurt sauce. The sauce i think is a light tomatoes base. I thought it was amazing! Light but yet flavorful. I ordered a side of naan to dip it with the sauce. We also had the chicken kabob wrap. (Cage free) Very good, the chicken was not dry at all. Marinated with their special sauce. Also tried their beef kabob wrap, that was also not dry and was very good. Their yogurt sauce was a bit on the tangier side for me. I would definitely go back. I tried their lamb rice plate, which came with naan, seasoned rice, the marinated and incredibly tender lamb, and a small side salad with house dressing. I ordered a hummus side and ended up with the small plate instead (which was a lot more than I expected) but it meant I had leftovers, so I'll take it. The hummus was homemade, and incredibly flavorful - not the "chickpea paste" often found at other locations claiming homemade hummus. The seasoned basmati rice was also quite flavorful, and paired excellently with the hummus, and I made myself little wraps of just hummus and rice and naan, they tasted that good together. I have no idea what was on the lamb, but it was somewhere between kabab and gyro, something entirely their own.
