It's very filling but at the end of the meal you still feel light, and that's probably because of the fresh ingredients they use. Ultimate Favs: Lentil Ball Rice Bowl which happens to be an age old recipe of the owner's family that has been passed down from one generation to the next. I simply can't get over this one and it happens to be the best pancake I've ever had - the Pancakes stuffed with Ricotta cheese and candied toasted walnuts with rose water. Also devour all the different tahinis they offer like jalapeño, mango, oregano, etc. which compliments all their dishes so well! Favs: Truly enjoy their spin on hummus with the mushrooms, grilled chicken, lemony chickpeas, etc. Love the Chicken Rice Bowl too as the chicken is so perfectly done and the rice is extremely flavorful! I've ordered the chicken shawarma wrap and beef + lamb kabob wrap from Za'atar. They got my beef and lamb kabob wrap order wrong and sent me the falafel wrap instead. Even so, the wrap, as well as the chicken one, were both super delicious. The wraps are packed with protein and a perfect amount of sauce, pickled onions, and veggies. I am shocked this place has good reviews. The food is very sloppy placed in a black plastic container that looks like it has been sitting there for at least 6 hours. The yellow sauce that came with the order was the most bitter unpleasant sauce I have ever had. And the cookies where even worst than the meal. Do the people here taste the food ever ? I found this place on Google maps named after my favorite herbal mix, and by some miracle my cell phone with T-mobile had an internet breakthrough and I was able to get service for just long enough to look up directions before it went down again. So I drove to a seemingly industrial part of town and found myself sandwiched between two warehouses in a nearly empty parking lot. Yelp listed it as "catering" so I wasn't sure if they served to individual customers. But I found the window cut out from the upper half of their warehouse door, and rang the bell once. A bit later, a European man came out to explore my options. I mean he introduced the menu. Okay that wasn't a gangster movie euphemism, it was literal, I swear! Anyways, they didn't have a credit card processor there, so they only took orders online through their website, provided by Door Dash. But I didn't have internet. I rolled down my car windows and waved the phone around in the air, like I'm trying to get an alien signal. Fortunately, it seemed the City College of San Francisco was nearby with free guest wifi under "#CCSF GUEST". So I ordered. The site says it would take about 20-30 minutes, but the guy inside let me know it actually takes about 6. And surely, 6 minutes later he came out and handed me the order. Now I'm no vegetarian but I love eggplant, so I ordered the Rice Roasted Eggplant Rice Bowl. It came with a whole sliced eggplant joined at the base on top of an explosive mix of rice and other ingredients. Maybe it wasn't so heavily seasoned with salt and pepper, but who needs that when the chickpeas, the green salad with some kind of vinaigrette, the pickled onions and potato bits, and the herbal rice carry their own weight? The diversity of flavors that nearly fully packed the takeout container was wonderful. There was no need for a dominant main item with sides in the typical paradigm. The entire mix made it work. I have to thank them for throwing in a couple baklavas, so soft and sweet, with cinnamon and honey (?) topped with pistachio nuts. I got the keto chicken dish - sadly the veggies were still pretty crunchy (raw) so I skipped them, and the chicken was a little too chewy. A higher disappointment was the corn salad. It looked nothing like the picture on the website - it was more like a lot of yogurt with a little corn. Fresh salads, decent portions, and tasty meats. So far we ordered dinner twice from this place the past week after craving good mediterranean/mid-east food.
