The food is exactly what you'd expect when craving classic Chinese cuisine--fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The Pupu platter is always a go-to for our family, with a great variety of items to share. I also appreciate the Special pricing to add fried rice or lo mein as side dishes. Service is fast and efficient, both for takeout and dining in. The staff is friendly and accommodating, although there were minor moments during our dine-in visits where the attention to detail could have been slightly better--but, I have been a server for 24 years and probably have a high standard. I'd say the focus is more on the food than the dining experience itself. Overall, New Garden is a solid, less expensive choice when you're craving Chinese food. While there's room for small improvements, the delicious food and convenient service keep us coming back. Did I mention that they DELIVER! (Wish I lived close enough to take advantage of the option.) Definitely worth a visit if you're in the mood for dependable takeout or a casual dine-in experience!

The hostess, waitress, and staff were all kind, well spoken on the cuisine, and happy to serve. The salted edamame was perfectly seasoned and came out quickly. The crunchy California roll was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. We ordered pineapple fried rice with chicken and chicken Penang. Both dishes were well balanced (savory and sweet) and well portioned. For an Asian Fusion restaurant being in central Maine, the food and experience were exceptional!

In fact, the next day the restaurant would celebrate its one-year anniversary under its new structure. Considering all of our experience with Chinese restaurants, it was a rare treat to try a Japanese place. It has a pleasant and quiet ambience, with mood lighting and varied decor, including colorful parasols in a section of the ceiling over our heads. I don't know if they had had a lunch "rush" that day, but we usually do lunches around 2:00 at restaurants and avoid busier times. There were a handful of tables in use, served by two young men who were rather amusing. A few times we heard an exclamation from another part of the restaurant, apparently the employees watching Denmark win a World Cup soccer match. My wife and our friend ordered variations of Pad Thai, chicken and shrimp, and the former had a side hot and sour soup, and the latter an egg drop soup. The Bento Box I ordered came with a small bowl of onion soup. That wasn't impressive, to be frank. It was a small bowl with a clear broth and two tiny mushroom slices floating in it. But our friend didn't want her egg drop soup so she and I traded. She liked it. The hot and sour soup was also fine, and as for the rest of my Bento box, it was all okay. The rice and chicken were fine. I am not a sushi person, so the California rolls were surprisingly good, and the pork gyoza was tasty like a crispy sort of crab Rangoon. I didn't like the Bento Box enough to order it again, but I can see getting the Pad Thai like they had, or trying something else on the menu. Our server gave us one final smile when we asked for takeout containers when he brought a large plastic kitchen container and asked "is this big enough?" Then he pulled the normal styrofoam containers out of it.
