Finally made it out here, but only because ZBurger was giving free burgers and shakes in association with KStreetKate. I had the opportunity to try their milkshakes at at a Yelp event a while ago and picked up some poker chips good for free burgers and milkshakes. Even then their milkshakes were really damn good. Too bad this place is too far away cuz I would definitely be swinging by more often. Shakes cost as much as the burger, but they are well worth it I think....even if you are lactose intolerant. read more

Driven by this place a number of times. It's such a curious looking building in the neighborhood, I thought I'd try the chow. And I'm glad I did. Didn't try anything fancy, just the burger and fries. To go. But, here are some things I noticed. First, there was a single person dedicated to hand dipping these massive onion rings and tenderly flipping them as they fried in oil. That was impressive to see. I'm not an onion ring person, but catching that action almost made me one. Secondly, the place is clean and tidy, and the staff professional. Genuine service people, not amateurs trying to learn a job. Third, the carryout bag is not a typical sack, it is designed more like a small paper grocery sack with a handle. Now, these little things alone don't mean much, but combined, it means that Z is bringing class to the burger joint, and I can get behind that. Z also carries veg and turkey burgers as well as other sandwiches. A doubleburger and fries set me back $8.59, which is a premium to pay. But, they gave me a heap of rustic cut fries. Most places, half the fries you're served that are rustic cut are inedible. These were good, every last one of them. Finally, I must comment on the space. It's really quite nice and very well designed. Spacious and classy seating inside, but there is also interior patio seating, and outdoor seating with cleverly designed walls to shield diners from the busy, grinding traffic on Wisconsin. The comparisons to Five Guys are reasonable, but Z's is a cut above. Slightly better quality in just about every category: nicer interior, better fries, better selection, slightly better value. Mind you, I'm a fan of Five Guys, but Z's also has their act together and deserve commendation. The one disadvantage is parking. Street parking available on the east, but it might take some time to find it. I'm glad I found Z's and i plan to stop here again. It beats the tail off the McDoodles down the street. read more

I have driven by this location many times and it seems full at lunch time. If you don't like crowds, visit after Easter mass where the only people sitting down are employees on a break. There is a sandwich side and a burger side. They even make veggie burgers from beans. Hubby loved the double burger. The meat was thick and good. They don't charge extra for toppings but the burgers are a bit pricey anyway. I got fries and a shake. The banana shake tasted like home made ice cream. It was delicious. The fries were wonderful. They didn't seem that greasy and they were huge. The place wasn't busy and it took a while to get my order. If I were meeting friends in the area, I might consider trying the veggie burger sometime. We literally keep coming here every week, sometimes twice a week. We thought they closed down all locations since we live in Virginia. This has become our late night go to as they have late hours on the weekend. We order the cheesesteaks and seasoned fries. I've never had a bad experience here. I like Z-Burger over all of the other pop-up, niche burger joints in the area. Their burgers are almost ALMOST as good as my beloved In N Out Burger (A West Coast thing, and THE best burger you will ever eat... EVER!). The seasoned fries are pretty good and 1 order is definitely enough to share. They also make a damn good cheesesteak. (They offer chicken cheesesteaks for those of you that happen to have 'beef' with beef). If you have a hard time making decisions, you might want to skip the milkshakes. They are so good, but there are SO MANY FLAVORS (75 to be exact) that it might take all day to pick just one. Nah, I'm kidding... don't skip the milkshake. That would just be cruel. Get two... share one with a friend. Whatever. No judgment here... Today I tried one of their salads; pretty damn awesome! I chose to create my own with arugula, kale, radishes, beets, cucumber, shrimp, dried cranberries, black beans, flax and sunflower seeds and a spicy apple habanero dressing. I got the small salad and it was still very much a meal in itself. I'm no health nut, but I would definitely order that again! I was underwhelmed by the sandwich options they offered though, which is how I ended up getting the salad, but don't take my word for it. You might see a sub on the menu that is just right for you. Josef is usually the person who takes my order. He is SO NICE! Just friendly and welcoming... I don't know if he actually remembers everyone who comes in that door or not, but he has always greeted me (and everyone I've observed him speaking to) like an old personal friend. Very cool. (The other servers are not as friendly/conversational. Don't take it personal. You're here for the food) read more

She Said...."Z burger is kinda like a spin off of 5 guys. The burgers taste better and arent as greasy, and the fries are pretty much the same except they have some kind of old bay seasoning on them. They have a large selection of ice cream flavors to choose from. They make really good shakes. Z burger is a bit cheaper than 5 guys too." It's as of they're trying to copy 5 Guys recipe, but it falls flat. I visited there in January with my co-workers and weren't impressed by the service.The soda machine was out of service also! I can't blame it on covid_19, because the other stores around, Popeyes and Chipotle were pretty busy. Let's just we won't be coming back. read more

I ordered amid COVID through Uber eats. My drink didn't comes veggie burger was literally drowning in sauce. To the point it was all over my hands and the burger was soggy and falling apart. This is the kind of black bean burger with literal entire peas in it. Very gross. Requested lettuce and cheese in the additional comments. Lettuce but no cheese so I know they saw it. Fries were soggy like they were made yesterday. Overall very nasty meal read more

I have drove by this place a millon of times and never stopped in. But today I did and so glad I did. Besides the food tasting great and made to order tge staff js exceptional. They made me feel like I was a long time customer. They gave me extra sauces to try without charing me like other establishments. And the bonus was the free peanuts. I love peanuts in the shell. Ok so we only stopped in for a milkshake and fries but the service and food were awesome! The chocolate covered banana shake was phenomenal and the fries were large and freshly fried. Delicious! This place was absolutely epic. The food is fairly good, about what you'd expect from a similar fast food joint. We ordered burgers, onion ring/fries combo, and a butterfinger milkshake. The burger was good but fell apart easily and had very little meat to it. We both had singles, but doubles might be the way to go in the future. The fries/onion ring combo was huge- a full paper bag of each that should be shared among at least 2, if not three or four people. Fries were average, onion rings were super deep fried but good. We really enjoyed both the flavor of the milkshake and that there were so many options. The service, however, is what truly sets this place apart. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the people at the counter. We took a while to decide what to order, so someone came out from behind the counter and explained the entire menu to us, then proceeded to give us a discount because it was our first time there. Everyone was super friendly, and I will definitely be going back if nothing else but for the positive atmosphere. Definitely recommend! read more

Eaten fresh at the gas station, the chicken was still steaming after I took my first few bites. I ordered it "spicy" and it was just the right level for me. Like Roaming Rooster's honey butter chicken sandwich, Nash and Smashed's also has cheese in it, which I think overpowered the honey butter oozing from the top of the chicken. The chicken itself, though, was delicious and juicy. I got a side of their creamy signature sauce in the bag, but I did not really need it since there was already plenty of sauce for me inside the sandwich. It probably would have gone well with their waffle fries had I gotten them. The sandwich alone was enough to fill me up. A big reason for me coming to Nash and Smashed was a 3.99 deal for the Oh My Thigh chicken sandwich that they advertised on their Instagram page. I was bummed to learn this location was not doing it. This gas station version of their menu didn't even have that chicken on it, so the worker had no idea what I was talking about. Just a warning if you see any deal on their social media page. There's stool seating on the side with a lovely view of the gas station and Connecticut Ave out the window. There was enough room for four to five people. Another comparison to Roaming Rooster, the chicken sandwich prices are a little cheaper than RR's. Only a few menu items sound similar, but Nash and Smashed has a larger selection of burgers, chicken buckets, sides, and drinks. FWIW some guys next to me raved about their hamburgers, especially the sauce.

Joia topping is similar to American style burger, but papaya salad is Asian-inspired and add a very refreshing kick to the burger. Ube soft serve with toasted coconut flakes was also excellent. Not too sweet, and the coconut flakes added a nice crunch to the ice cream. Service is great and friendly. Very cute ambiance with children's drawings everywhere.
