Super good first visit experience at this local burger joint. It has a "Five guys" vibe with regard to the food ordering and options. It is not large place and kinda loud. We ate on the super small patio out front and had a nice meal. The burgers were massive and juicy and we received more fries than we could eat. The staff were attentive and friendly. The place is a bit worn down but not dirty and inviting. Would recommend and will go back on my next trip to DC. read more

I came here shortly after noon on a Sunday. When I arrived I was the only customer. I'd always been curious about Z Burger, previously noticing one next to Starbucks just off 7th Street near Pennsylvania Ave in the District. The Crystal City location ended up being an expensive curiosity. $22.56 for a single-patty bacon cheeseburger, small fries and a fountain soda. My order turned out to be a case of opposites. The first thing I noticed was that the nearly $10 burger was shockingly small, the patty so skinny. The cheese on the burger had not been melted and they used iceberg lettuce. The bun was dry and it fell apart before I was finished. But the "small" fries turned out to be a whole sack of fries. But before you say yay, these fries were oily and limp and I could only eat some of them. It's a build your own burger emporium. The toppings list showed only fried onions and so I asked if they had fresh onion. The cashier didn't know what fresh onion was, but did know what raw onion was. I wanted to try the onion rings, but had the sense to ask if they were beer-battered. When she told me they were, I took a hard pass. No Coke products were available, only Pepsi. That's never a good thing. And why did my receipt show the business name as "Maman Joon"? I wouldn't say the burger was bad, but considering the not great fries with too high prices (including a $2.24 service and packaging fee) and a stark and uninviting ambience, I can't give more than two stars. read more

Been a few years since I have been to Z Burger and first time going to this location. I ordered the Original Philly Cheesesteak and also had fries and onion rings. First time ordering the cheesesteak and it was alright. However, the fries and onion rings were terrible. I don't know if they were horribly over salted or fried in some specific way related to the grease or oil. But whatever the taste was, it lingered around awhile. And not in a good way. Hoping this order was an aberration, as I recall the food being great at one of their other locations on multiple occasions. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. First, there is metered street parking in front of it to park and also within a reasonable walking distance. There is a small covered patio out front and an adequate sized dining area inside. The guy that was working the counter was very friendly and helpful. This place has a wide selection of milk shakes to choose from. They also have hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, cheese steaks and burgers. I ordered bacon cheese burger with a side of their hand cut, homemade onion rings. You order your burger like you do at a place like 5 guys, where you select the toppings that you want on it that include ketchup, honey mustard, jalapeño, onions, A1 sauce, barbecue sauce, mango mayo, relish, sauerkraut, hot sauce, lettuce, tomato, and their very own Z-sauce. It took about 12 minutes for me to get me food. The onion rings were pretty good. And there were a ton of them. Almost a bag full. I really enjoyed them. The burger.....well, not so much. All I could think of was where's the beef, when I was eating it. There was a whole lot of bun left after the meat patty was gone. Another issue was that the burger was excessively soggy for some reason. I was able to still eat it, but I know it would be a show stopper for some people that I know. Finally, the burger was not really that tasty. don't get me wrong, it was ok. I have had worse, but I have also had much better. I definitely would not eat it again. I haven't had Z-Burger in ages. I was excited to hear that there was a new location opening nearby, which means that I'll be here often. What I had: DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER SMALL Z FRIES STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE MILKSHAKE Z-Burger has always been consistent, so I'm glad to see that nothing has changed. Everything was just as good as I remember. I am only giving 3 stars because the fries and and onion rings were great! But the hot dog... I am at a loss for words. How could you mess up a hotdog so bad. And I think what made me more upset is how much I paid for the hotdog. A 7-11 Big Bite or even a Costco hotdog would have been better. I was really disappointed and it was my first time there. Unlike most of you in DC, I had an unexpectedly fantastic election night thanks to Peter Tabibian and Z Burger (P Street). As a Marine combat veteran from the war in Afghanistan (Marjah Afghanistan 2010) I am fascinated by the US government, flaws and all. I am new to the area and live in Northern VA so I decided to get a hotel in DC to experience election night there for the first time. To my dismay the city was completely dead when I finally made it out. I assumed I would be able to find food but nearly everything was closed! After not eating anything all day, panic began to set in. While in an Uber I saw Z Burger and an adjacent bar. I stopped my ride on the spot and headed inside. Upon entering the restaurant, Peter was the first person I encountered. He informed me they had actually been closed for nearly an hour at that point. Seeing the excitement in my eyes turn to utter disappointment, he offered to make me fries on the house. He then proceeded to make me a chicken sandwich with the fries. Anyone who has eaten at this restaurant knows the food is fantastic. That being said, the review I wish to give is a review of the person I met that night, Peter Tabibian. Peter is a kind, generous, and talented man who saw a person in need and chose to make a difference in at least one persons life that night, mine. To me, the best gift one can give is to restore someones faith in humanity. Peter, you gave me that gift and I am deeply thankful. Please support this man and his employees. I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. I ordered a double burger, no cheese ($10.39) with a small order of fries ($4.99), and a fountain drink ($2.89). The bag of fries was absolutely enormous, and probably enough to feed a table of 3-4 people. The fries were super hot and crispy and I enjoyed the burger as well. Just FYI - Even though I dined in, the employee brought my lunch to the table in a paper bag and told me that every order is packaged to-go. I wouldn't have known unless I asked for the paper receipt when I paid, but they tack on a $1.10 "Packaging Fee" to the bill which might not sit well with some dine-in customers. Saw that they just opened a few blocks from my apartment, so I visited on a slow Saturday afternoon. The clerk was unfortunately struggling to communicate in English; I was as patient as possible, but he probably would have messed up my order if I didn't switch to Spanish. I'm just thankful he was somewhat patient and friendly. As for the food quality, it was okay. The milkshake I ordered was tasty enough; thick, creamy and sweet, no complaints. The chicken sandwich was... eh, not as appetizing. Edible sure, but most of the chicken fillet was fried batter, and only about half its volume was chicken. The Z-Sauce and toppings were enough to make it worth consuming, but definitely far from delicious. Would advise some improvements be made here on the service and cookery end. We ordered 3 single burgers, a side of fries, a fries/onion rings combo, a water and a regular shake and it came to $58!!!! I find that expensive. The burgers were good but extremely thin. I wish I took a photo. I compare it to 5 Guys in terms of quality and price. The fries to me were similar to 5 Guys. I ordered a peach shake and requested extra peach. I couldn't taste the peach at all and that disappointed me. For the price vs quality, I wouldn't go back. read more

The customer service is okay. The one guy who sits at the register doesn't have much to do so after he rings you up he just gets on his phone. The place was pretty clean since is new. The fries served are definitely plenty and come out hot. The green pepper are raw like the onion on the burger. It's worth the try but not a habit since they are not a cheap burger place. read more

I arrived here for an early lunch right at around 11:15am and suprisingly there were a handful.of customers already inside of the restaurant. My plan was to take my lunch slightly early today and before work, so that way I can leave early in this Friday. I had been to other locations and recently discovered this new place that is somewhat close to my work. I went for the double cheeseburger with a side order of small seasoned French fries. I noticed at least three employees who were working in the kitchen and it took them less than five minutes to prepare my order. Those few minutes were definitely worth the small wait because this burger is pure deliciousness. I was only able to finish off about half of it, and I figured that I would take the other half to go to maybe eat later. The fries are even better! The inside of the restaurant is new and modern and there is planting of seating. Great new restaurant in the area! read more

The biggest issue I had today was with the Chocolate shake. It had a horrible metallic taste that no one in my group could stomach, so that was $8 down the drain. The burger was adequate in taste, but even that was a little too pink for me. The bag of onion rings was comically large, but lacking in flavor. The fries were adequate, but nothing to write home about either (nor were they tasty enough to justify their own hefty price tag). Furthermore the restaurant was a little dirty, especially considering how empty it was in the late afternoon between dinner rushes. Let me say this is a review that I will eventually revisit. The burgers were very much like Five Guys (which is a good thing). The fries were good and plentiful (another good thing). The chocolate shakes were also good, but were also part of the problem -- that problem being the service. There was general confusion in trying to match orders to customers. The bag they first brought to us was incorrect and when we suggested that it might belong to a guy sitting outside, we just got a stare and saw the order being returned to the kitchen. The table beside us also got a bag of food that didn't belong to them. I ordered one large shake and got one small shake plus an apology and a "Keep it for free (handing it to my wife) -- we'll bring you the correct one". We were then given a second small shake. Maybe the thought was that two small = one large, but since they gave the first shake to my wife, that didn't work out so well for my expectation of a large shake. I'd also be happier with trays for inside dining rather than bags -- just more clutter on the table while trying to arrange the food. I'll give them some time to fix the service issues and try again. read more

Atmosphere is like a bus terminal. Poor layout that wasn't thought out very well. Half the lights weren't on, the ceiling fans weren't on and it was hot and humid inside. Only one person behind the counter for The 2 nights I was there. Both friendly, but they need more people out front. Beware they charge a "packaging fee" without any warning other than a label on the register that says "package fee $$$" It's about 10%. There are better burgers and shakes up at Bob and Edith's , Freddies, or the Sports Pub.
