Whew-this place was everything that I needed on a calm Sunday. As mentioned, I ordered online so I haven't visited the location in person yet. But, after my experience with the food, I'm eager to take the trip and check them out. I ordered the 2 piece tenders which came with a side of duck fat fries. I then paired it with the mother sauce and extra pickles. These chicken tenders were huge cuts and perfectly fried. The seasoning on this meat was perfect, not too salty and not bland at all. It was just right! The mother sauce took the chicken tenders over the top with each dip and honestly, whatever is in this sauce needs to be bottled and sold lol. The duck fat fries were addictive because of a dry seasoning sprinkled on them. Add that to hot crispy fries and you've got magic! Definitely recommend this menu selection. My boyfriend had the Queen Mother's classic sandwich and he raved about the flavor profiles and soft bread. He said that the chicken sandwich was a hit to him and that he thoroughly enjoyed his meal. I stood at the order, not I from of the order window, 5 minutes , before someone came to tell me order number line or the other self serve computer in front of the pick up window. The Mamba sauce is unique: sweet, spicey but good. The chicken sandwich: delicate and good. Cooked to perfection, not much seasoning and a really soft toasted but. Queen Mother's is very good. I visited with a large group and we got a few sandwiches ($15), the tenders combo ($15), fries ($5), and chicken and waffles ($16). All the chicken was similar but also all tasty. I recommend the sandwiches over the tenders because they have nice sauce/toppings and nice brioche buns. The fries are crinkle cut and fried in duck fat (supposedly) and sprinkled with seasoning. They were also very good, but could be a bit crispier. You get one free sauce with your fries. If you go as a couple, two sandwiches and a side of fries are enough ($35 total, a little pricey). The spot is at the Crystal City Water Park. This is a collection of a couple different food kiosks with shared outdoor seating. There is no indoor seating. Not every vendor has things like napkins or ketchup out and available; you might have to ask. Bathrooms were very clean. Vendors don't serve alcohol unless you go to the bar. Service could be improved. There is no way to know when you order is ready, so you just have to hover around and check in with them. But there is also no one always at the register, so you have to get someone's attention to get your food if you see it sitting there. They forgot the toppings for both of the Chicken and Waffles orders, so we had to go back and ask for it, which they provided. read more

This place has been on my list to try for a few months and I finally got the chance. Elected for the Elijah likes it spicy chicken sandwich with fries. Didn't care much for the fries, weren't bad but nothing special. The chicken sandwich was very good. Juicy, crispy and the brioche bun was soft and pillowy. One of the better chicken sandwiches I've had in the DMV. I will say the chicken wasn't spicy at all. I think the spice was more in the flour before they fried the chicken. Just like most of teh restaurants in the park, the food is a bit pricey. There are a few tables on the side of kiosk to eat and lots more, with some scenic views in the park. I had no problem getting a seat at the tables on the side of the kiosk, but I did share the table with other diners though. But I do recommend getting there before the lunch rush. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my food. The sandwich was ok. It was a bit dry and could have benefitted from more honey butter which was very savory by itself. The potato salad was horrible. It was some of the worst potato salad that I have ever had. It was very bland and had no flavor or taste whatsoever. I could not even finish it. This restaurant is ok, but given the many other restaurants at Water Park, I would probably explore those before I come back here. read more

What happened? Worst ever chicken I have had. Ordered 8 chicken fingers. They were WAY overcooked. Edges hard as petrified wood and the interior stringy dry and hard to bite into. Spicy Buffalo: this sandwich was really good, I love a spicy chicken sandwich, the chicken is tender and juicy. I'm not a fan of coleslaw at all so I just put it on the side. 10/10. This is my very first time at Queen Mother's. I'm a little bit disappointed, but needless to say, I will return to try more things on the menu. I got the honey, butter chicken sandwich. It was really good, it's a good quality sandwich. The piece of chicken was juicy crispy but the only thing that they did not do is put the honey butter on the sandwich. They put the honey butter on the side so that was kinda a bummer. What's the point of ordering? A honey butter chicken and the honey butter is not on the chicken. But that does not take away from the flavor of the chicken, the quality of the chicken and my sister ordered. The Queen Mother chicken, she said that it was really good. Food came out fresh. only one sauce comes with your tender combo and honestly small portions for the price of $15 per combo. Chicken was nice and juicy and definitely well tenderized. Fries had a little bit of paprika on them. Sauce seemed to resemble shake shack sauce, more than Rasing Canes sauce, and honestly, a little bit less flavorful than Shack's Sauce. The wait is finally over! Queen Mother's has finally reopened at the new dining destination, National Landing Water Park. This new venue reminds me of an outdoor food hall that you would see at a European market. Not your standard chicken sandwich. At first I thought 'a bit over-priced' but I've now been back 3 more times. One of the best chicken sandwiches I've sunk my teeth into. I have had the Queen Mothers Classic, the Honey butter, and the Buffalo. My favorite is the Southern Honey Butter. I recommend getting the 'sauce' on the side, especially the honey butter even if you are eating it there. Also, have plenty of napkins, a knife and fork, or a hand washing sink near by when you eat it! As for those duck fat fries, the seasoning is perfect... the lemon pepper ketchup is an awesome dipper. I order extra and toss them in my air fryer later - potato crack! This is not necessarily fast food but it is cooked right and is worth the wait. OR you can order ahead on Toast. Good for takeout if you get the sauces in the side but best right out of the kitchen! Finding this place may not be the easiest as they don't have their own space but share space inside the Kitchen of Purpose. I ordered delivery from here and upon receiving my order went to the website to see if the Uber eats prices were inflated and, to my shock, they were not. $14 for a small filet, a bun, and some (delicious) sauce. It's a good chicken sandwich. Not sure if it's $14 good, but it is a good sandwich. I've ordered take-out from here twice so far; first time I got the Classic, the second time The Buffalo. Both times I also got duck fries for another $4.50. Now, these sandwiches were good; excellent maybe. I really, really like the duck fries and sauces as well. I've been to Queen Mother's Chicken on a few occasions for chicken sandwiches only and the consistency has been there every time. With so many chicken sandwich options at competing restaurants in the DMV it is important to have a ranking order of top options. At the same time it is imperative to distinguish the good chicken sandwich restaurants from the OK. I've tried both the Classic and Honey Butter chicken sandwiches; both with bacon. The chicken is thick and juicy while the brioche bun is very light and airy. The softness of the brioche bun is very complementary of the crispy chicken as it gives into the chicken as you hold it as opposed to resisting. Sometimes it can be very frustrating to have a chicken sandwich where the bread is too sturdy and serves as a distraction from an otherwise good piece of chicken. Queen Mother's chicken is fried perfectly. It has that airy crisp texture without the oppressive salty flavor that sometimes is accompanied with chicken sandwiches. The mother sauce is also a very good combinations of mayo base and seasonings for a chicken sandwich. For a Honey Butter sandwich I believe the amount of honey butter they use is appropriate however I recommend eating it on-site or soon after pickup as you might run the risk of the sandwich being too soggy considering brioche is a sponge to any kind of moisture. Sides: The fries were always fried perfectly every time I ordered them. They serve crinkle cut fries. Also, I've tried the creamy and the tangy coleslaws, both of which were good. I was more of a fan of the creamy coleslaw as the tangy is more of a Carolina vinegar vibe. I rarely eat to-go coleslaw however the creamy was really good. Overall I've had good experiences from this place. I'll give their breakfast a try at some point at which time I'll reconsider Queen Mother's for a 5*. Check them out. read more

Phat Boy Philly here. Been excited to try Queen Mothers. Finally did and got the Buffalo chicken sandwich. Decent size sandwich. Very fresh and good quality. Downside is it's nearly 17$ and most disappointing, they likely use Frank's Red Hot for the buffalo sauce. I would have thought it'd be a homemade sauce for that price. I got the Virginia Honey Butter sandwich and it was so delicious. The chicken, fried in duck fat!!, was perfectly cooked. Nice and crispy. The bread had a little toast to it and completes the sandwich. I also got Mac and cheese and kale greens as sides. The Mac and cheese was seriously so tasty. It's not "southern baked", but it is good. I think it's probably the type of cheese used! The chicken sandwich was very good, the fries were nice and crispy and the homemade lemonade was good, not too sweet; which is always a plus in my book. The service was not good, after telling me to order from the person working the counter disappeared and finally i had to ask her to ring up the order for her.
