Pittsburgh was the last place I expected to find a legit ramen place. I'd stand this up to anything I've found in NY or the DC area. They've got a good selection of Japanese whisky, sake, and beer. They've also got a good selection of cocktails and mocktails. We started off with the karaage (fried chicken) with spicy Kewpie mayo. We also got the smoked ribeye brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were so good we got a 2nd order. For my entree, I got the spicy curry vegetable ramen. It had enough spice to be fun, not not enough where you'll regret it later. It had a little sliced fried tofu in it along with tomatoes, Lima beans, green onions, and ramen, of course. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Yuzu is my go to for lunch downtown during work hours. The General Tso Chicken hits the spicy and slightly sweet cravings each time. The music they play is on point. Think 90's and early 2000's vibe. I'm half-Japanese and have eaten ramen at many places around the country, and this might be the blandest broth I've ever had in my life. My friend and I are both ramen aficionados and thought we'd give this place a try while we were in Pittsburgh for the week. Their edamame was probably the best part of the meal, it came out hot with plenty of salt, and an odd inclusion of pepper that was unusual but not bad. The Shoyu ramen was not good. I'm really not sure how they managed to underseason a ramen that is literally supposed to be a soy sauce broth, but they pulled off the feat. It tasted like somebody put a bit of soy sauce into some boxed chicken stock and thought maybe nobody in the area would be able to tell that it's not what ramen is supposed to taste like. The noodles themselves are a bit undercooked, and the "char siu" was almost non-existent - maybe the equivalent of a strip and a half of bacon for the whole bowl. If you go here, get something else. Another friend had a donburi and it looked much better than what we ate. read more

I had a really great time visiting Yuzu for dinner. This is a place I always walk by and finally had a chance to pop in. First thing that stood out was the music selection. Always hard to find a spot that plays chill Hip-Hop and R&B (among other genres) so I'll be back for the music alone. The waitress was so nice and the group had a great time hearing her favorite menu options. Kind and sweet. For drinks we all ended up getting "The dealers choice". I absolutely love the ambiance of this place. I've tried the ramen before but I wasn't here for that. I wanted some really good fried rice and great service and I got both. I showed up for lunch and it wasn't super packed. I didn't realize that I got lunch prices but small family portions. This was enough fried rice to feed a family of three I kid you not but no worries as I have to enough to eat again. The price was reasonable and the service was super quick. This is a do not miss spot in Pittsburgh. I highly recommend a reservation. We had made a reservation on open table and we checked in and the hostess didn't have a table for us. Luckily we were able to sit at the bar. We had scallion pancakes to start which were tasty and the dipping sauce was good! I had the Sapporo miso ramen and my friend had a rice bowl with tofu and green curry. Other dishes were outstanding! The egg in my ramen was cooked perfectly and the broth was so flavorful. I think my ramen has chicken, corn, and some other things I don't remember. My friends rice bowl tasted like I was in Thailand or east Asia again. It was *chefs kiss* delicious. Broccoli, tofu, green beans with a bowl of rice on the side. The service was not great but they did seem really busy. Had such a good experience for dinner! Such a cute restaurant with ample seating. We made a reservation for 5 people but it took a minute for them to set up the table. We were a little disappointed with where they set us up because we put 5 people at a 4 person table so there wasn't enough space for everyone's dishes on the table. The food made up for it though - everything came out promptly and tasted amazing! We got the Mongolian style tofu, La La fried rice, and stir fry ramen. However my companions seemed to love the Chinese american cuisine offered here. BAO, RAMEN, STIR FRY.... Say it with me: bao, ramen, stir fry! Wow! Yuzu was Fantastic! I'm not a huge fan of Asian food in general (unless it's really good sushi I usually prefer another genre! ;) But, I may reconsider after my experience at Yuzu last Friday night. First let me start by saying, I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't completely packed with people for being a Friday night in the heart of downtown - +1 point. Secondly, our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, had great recommendations, and was attentive while still giving us space - +10 points. Lastly, the food was really REALLY wonderful - +100 points. All kidding and made up point scale aside, we ordered both Bao appetizers: which were both really delicious in their own right (but I may lean a little more toward the pork belly than the fried chicken) and the bun, oh the bun.... It was literally the softest fluffy bao bun dreams are made of. The ramens were delicious! My son got the wonton which he loved and I got the braised chicken ramen with a garlic miso bomb on our waiters recommendation. Wow! The chicken was easily one of the tastiest piece of chicken I've ever had. The broth was flavorful and savory and the egg and vegetables were cooked perfectly. Overall, very delicious! But wait that's not all, my daughters stir fry might have been the show stopping meal! (Unfortunately not pictured). She got the stir fry udon with steak and everyone agreed it may have been our favorite dish of the evening. Wonderful flavors, great service, great experience overall. We'll be back! My one and only critique is that the restaurant is very loud. I enjoy having music on and maybe we were directly under a speaker or something but it was a little too loud for my taste. I felt like we almost had to yell at times to hear each other talk, so may not be an ideal place if you want an intimate night out. ;) Hope you try and enjoy Yuzu as much as we did!! read more

Very impressed with this place! Came at lunch time on a Friday and it was busy but we grabbed a seat at the bar and our food came out really fast. The spicy dumplings were soft and flavorful and had a nice heat. The karrage chicken was crispy and also very good, but the portion was pretty small and it wasn't as exciting as the other dishes. The Yuzu ramen was outstanding. Best I've had. The broth was incredibly flavorful with a great heat. A great place to grab a nice dinner with friends. The ramen was flavorful, had lots of toppings and surprisingly, a whole egg! The yuzu bomb was a little too peppery for my taste but still brought good warmth and flavor to the overall dish. The bomb has a sort of buttery consistency which does make the broth very heavy though. The waitresses are very sweet too and consistently check up on you during your meal. Our table got the Sapporo Miso Ramen, Karaage Curry Ramen (not pictured), and takoyaki. Sapporo Miso Ramen: I really liked this, with some caveats! The miso broth tasted authentic and the garlic butter added more rich flavour to it. Noodles were nice and springy w/ a good amount of texture. The egg, although tasty, was a bit of a letdown as the yolk seemed overdone and rubbery (I like my ramen eggs runny). Everything else like the chicken and seaweed were tasty but I found it odd that they were chopped up into really small pieces which isn't how meat typically is prepared in ramen. Karaage Curry Ramen: I tried the broth and it was really good. A really tasty Japanese curry flavour with a hint of coconut. It wasn't too spicy, which fit what we wanted. Like the miso ramen, the karaage was unexpectedly cut up into really small chunks, so it resembled chicken katsu instead. My friend had no complaints about texture or taste though! Takoyaki: These were good, standard takoyaki! Octopus pieces inside were decently sized. The dish came with 6 pieces! Docked a star due to rubbery egg yolk and the unexpectedly small meat chunks.
