We had to come back to Yuzen for good quality sushi. We intentionally drove from Bellevue to Mercer Island for the food. We love the ambience, wonderful service, and most importantly, great quality melt-in-your-mouth sushi. What a way to end our year~ Thank you Yuzen team!

This is one of the best sushi places I've been to in Seattle, we love this restaurant and it's soooo convinent living on the island! Never had a problem with service and the food is really good!

    Kari Kari roll. Yum!

Friendly owners, who helped teach my son how to use chop sticks. Very zen calm environment. Great quality sushi, saki, and bento boxes for children.

Food here are amazing!! All the sushi rolls and udon we had were outstanding! Highly recommend fried oysters appetizer! Hiyashi Wakame seaweed salad was great too. Service was great, friendly staff and they have a really nice atmosphere. I'm excited to go again with our friends this week. This place is not an average sushi restaurant. If you want good quality sushi, I highly recommend!

We'd just finished up some time at the beach at Luther Burbank Park and were craving some sushi, so we decided to check out Yuzen as our friends had told us about it a long time ago. We don't frequent MI restaurants that often, so we figured why not? We missed the happy hour special for $1.50 pieces of 5 different kinds of ngiri, so we ordered entrees instead. The kids got chicken udon and my wife got veggie tempura as she wasn't overly hungry. I initially wanted the curry udon but they didn't have any curry left, so I settled for beef ramen. We then ordered two pieces of hamachi ngiri and two pieces of hokkigai (surf clam) for us and a kappa roll and two pieces of inarizushi for the Fenglets. I have to say the service was great. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and attended to our every need. The food, however, was less than inspiring. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, either...just ok. Both pieces of hamachi had a little bit of stringiness to them and didn't taste as fresh as I would've liked. The hokkigai was great, however, with just the right amount of chew and flavor. I was pleasantly surprised at how tender the beef was in my ramen, but other than that, the dish was rather uninspiring. The broth had a beefy flavor to it, but the ramen noodles were about average. Definitely a better value if you go for the $1.50 deal, but I'd have to try the sushi to assess the quality of the fish.

    Island Roll = mostly mayonnaise.

Rolls were much shorter than others for the same mid-teen $ per roll and mostly filler. Lots of sauce and rice - not so much fish. The poke salad was also light on the fish compared to any other poke salad you could get for the same price. Island roll was half mayo. Kari kari roll was mostly rice. Ambiance and service were OK.

I really have enjoyed my last several meals at Sushi Joa!…read more Sushi Joa is a small sushi restaurant located in Town Center that is a delight. I had vague recollections of eating here over a decade ago and found an improved dining experience in my recent meals with delicious rolls and delightful glasses of wine. The kaleidoscope roll has been my favorite so far as it has a bit of everything I like so much! While only 6 pieces I find I can't put the whole piece in my mouth as it is a substantial roll! Tuna, hamaichi, salmon, imitation crab, tobiko, and avocado all combined for one delicious hearty roll. The nigiri has been excellent as well! Each come out as delicious as the next. The service is always a delight. The servers are polite, prompt, and attentive. Water glasses are quickly refilled, empty plates whisked away, and always an offer of check-in I never feel rushed nor neglected here. The space is tight and it can get rather crowded Friday night. I find dining earlier helps me avoid the mass of people and it feels more relaxed. They offer daily specials so be sure to check out the chalk board by the sushi counter. Also, if you decide you wish to regularly dine here, use the same credit card as you will earn points that will give you a discount on a future meal. Such good food and great service!

I've ordered the crispy rice bites from Seastar for twice the price, and as theirs is flavorless (you literally are told to flavor it with salt!) the ones from Sushi Joa are full of flavor, ridiculously good, and makes me add this to my order every single time! They remind me of the ones I would get at Nobu in Honololulu back in the day.

He was the only one that ate the scallops and the free appetizer for the day which was squid I just don't think we can return after that. My son said he also noticed that the raw chicken placement was further away from the chef and the beef was almost touching the raw chicken so the beef was between the chicken and the chef. The grill was kind of a little sloped (hardly noticeable but from our angle you can tell since we were sitting on the side) so he was thinking that maybe some of the raw chicken juice may have gotten on the beef that he ate. He orders his beef medium rare . Maybe that's what it was? I've actually never been to another hibachi restaurant that cooked the beef and the chicken with that placement. Usually the chicken is far away from everything else being cooked and is to the left or right of other food

Chef Takai's omakase leans on the traditional side, which is my preference, and the portions of fish are great. I appreciate he incorporates both familiar fish and also newer or very seasonal fish as well - each time I've visited, I'd say about a third of the courses were different. I also love that non-sushi courses are interspersed throughout the meal, all of which are executed very well. Some standouts from my most recent visit: the matcha tofu (very memorable, amazing texture), hairy crab, and the anago. There was not a single course I did not like though! There is a paid lot right next to the restaurant, which seems like can get packed during rush hour. Waitstaff service was particularly good on my last visit, and Chef Takai was as personable as ever. My daughter had not been here before, so I kept my expectations low. For a weekday lunch, the experience blew my expectations out of the water. THeKoi has two locations: the original (2011 opening) in Tacoma, and this Bellevue location (2024 opening). They have a good website, so I already had a good idea of what I was going to get. My daughter agreed to get a different lunch meal, and we ended up sampling a bit of everything. Lunch Bento ($25) - a lot bigger than expected, coming with vegetable tempura, shrimp tempura, salad, California rolls, white rice, and miso soup + choice of 2 items: beef short ribs (+$2.50 additional) and nigiri (+$2.50 additional). The tempura was first rate: very light panko coating, expertly deep fried, hardly greasy at all...very, very good. The rolls were very large and thick with krab filling, expertly made. The nigiri were four big, generous pieces, expertly scored with decent fish quality (typical choices of salmon, yellowtail, and tuna). The kalbi was one large LA-style piece of short rib, and I really liked the marinade used, though the meat quality was average. Black Cod Lunch Gozen Set ($32) - combination of tempura, grilled black cod, sashimi, udon, and salad. Unexpected were 5 banchans, including some of my favorite (bean sprouts, marinated fish cakes, sweet potato, and cut up honeydew). The udon was a single bowl of decent udon noodles, big enough to be a light lunch on its own. The tempura had two pieces of shrimp, a piece of squid, and some vegetables...all of it as light and delicate as the bento (whoever is doing tempura here is skilled). The sashimi was generous, with thick large pieces of fish including a white fish I couldn't identify. But the star of the show was the black cod, a bigger piece than I expected for lunch and at that price point. It was delicate, well seasoned, and expertly cooked. My daughter ate most of it, which made me happy: her palate has definitely become more choosy since moving to the Seattle area, and she ate this up. Both meals came with a good miso soup, which wasn't mentioned in the menu. Pretty sure with some of the dishes and the tastiness of the kalbi marinade, that the owner or chef is Korean, just for the quality of the banchan alone. It wasn't very busy when we came, and there were two servers eager not to be bored...so service was very attentive. The food was delivered as soon as ready, which made a huge difference in the quality of the dining experience. Everything (quality, value, taste) was just great. The amount of food given was very generous: the ownership didn't need to go that far since the expectations for food in this area can be spotty when it comes to value. A place like this showing such respect to its customers sense of value, deserves to be highly frequented. Highly recommended for lunch as long as the set lunch menu continues to be available during weekdays.

The street parking in front is free, but those spots are usually taken. There is also a free parking lot right across the street, so parking is still manageable. We usually order the omakase combo because it lets us try different types of sushi, then add a few a la carte items if they are not included. The fish quality is pretty decent compared to other sushi places I have tried, and they also have many roll options. I would not say there is one dish that really stands out. Most of the menu feels like something you can find at other sushi restaurants, but the quality is still good. The main downside is that the food can take quite a while after ordering. The price is also not cheap, but it is not as expensive as higher-end sushi places either. Overall, I would still come back if I am craving sushi in downtown Bellevue. I would not come here expecting something very unique, but it works well when I just want decent sushi in a convenient location.
