Came here for lunch on my last full day in Bellevue, mainly because it was within walking distance of our daughter's condo AND because it is part of the Resy network, allowing us to use our monthly AMEX credit. My daughter had not been here before, so I kept my expectations low. For a weekday lunch, the experience blew my expectations out of the water. THeKoi has two locations: the original (2011 opening) in Tacoma, and this Bellevue location (2024 opening). They have a good website, so I already had a good idea of what I was going to get. My daughter agreed to get a different lunch meal, and we ended up sampling a bit of everything. Lunch Bento ($25) - a lot bigger than expected, coming with vegetable tempura, shrimp tempura, salad, California rolls, white rice, and miso soup + choice of 2 items: beef short ribs (+$2.50 additional) and nigiri (+$2.50 additional). The tempura was first rate: very light panko coating, expertly deep fried, hardly greasy at all...very, very good. The rolls were very large and thick with krab filling, expertly made. The nigiri were four big, generous pieces, expertly scored with decent fish quality (typical choices of salmon, yellowtail, and tuna). The kalbi was one large LA-style piece of short rib, and I really liked the marinade used, though the meat quality was average. Black Cod Lunch Gozen Set ($32) - combination of tempura, grilled black cod, sashimi, udon, and salad. Unexpected were 5 banchans, including some of my favorite (bean sprouts, marinated fish cakes, sweet potato, and cut up honeydew). The udon was a single bowl of decent udon noodles, big enough to be a light lunch on its own. The tempura had two pieces of shrimp, a piece of squid, and some vegetables...all of it as light and delicate as the bento (whoever is doing tempura here is skilled). The sashimi was generous, with thick large pieces of fish including a white fish I couldn't identify. But the star of the show was the black cod, a bigger piece than I expected for lunch and at that price point. It was delicate, well seasoned, and expertly cooked. My daughter ate most of it, which made me happy: her palate has definitely become more choosy since moving to the Seattle area, and she ate this up. Both meals came with a good miso soup, which wasn't mentioned in the menu. Pretty sure with some of the dishes and the tastiness of the kalbi marinade, that the owner or chef is Korean, just for the quality of the banchan alone. It wasn't very busy when we came, and there were two servers eager not to be bored...so service was very attentive. The food was delivered as soon as ready, which made a huge difference in the quality of the dining experience. Everything (quality, value, taste) was just great. The amount of food given was very generous: the ownership didn't need to go that far since the expectations for food in this area can be spotty when it comes to value. A place like this showing such respect to its customers sense of value, deserves to be highly frequented. We usually go to THEKOI Sushi & Sake for lunch when we are craving sushi in downtown Bellevue. The location is convenient, and it is less crowded than I expected for a sushi place in this area. For a party of two, we have always been seated right away with no wait. The street parking in front is free, but those spots are usually taken. There is also a free parking lot right across the street, so parking is still manageable. We usually order the omakase combo because it lets us try different types of sushi, then add a few a la carte items if they are not included. The fish quality is pretty decent compared to other sushi places I have tried, and they also have many roll options. I would not say there is one dish that really stands out. Most of the menu feels like something you can find at other sushi restaurants, but the quality is still good. The main downside is that the food can take quite a while after ordering. The price is also not cheap, but it is not as expensive as higher-end sushi places either. Overall, I would still come back if I am craving sushi in downtown Bellevue. I was a little nervous coming here for dinner on Saturday as some reviews mentioned they had to wait to get seated even with reservations. Some also mentioned that the food took awhile to get to their table. Thankfully none of those things happened. Service was amazing. They were kind, attentive, and always available when we needed something. The four stars is because I felt their sushi was not the best I've had. They are moreso middle of the pack, compared to the likes of Scratch in Seattle, Takai by Kashiba, etc. it was good but not amazing, melt in your mouth. I wish they offered nigiri omakase. They have the premium sushi set which was 8 piece chef choice and a tuna roll. Takoyaki for $10 only came with 4. I was a little disappointed since I just went to Tanaka Ramen in Kirkland and they gave me almost 8 pieces for $10. Parking is free in the structure. 2 hours max. You can't get back into the parking lot through the door so you'll have to walk though the entrance to get back to your car. read more

It's ok, maybe? First time dining here so a clear first impression was set after this evening. Let's start with the service: They were quite overwhelmed on a Saturday evening at the end of March. We wait ~15 minutes to be seated with a reservation. There were two other parties ahead of us that also had a reservation. The host was too busy packing food for a to-go order. So That kind of set the mood for the rest of the evening. I also found out towards the end of the meal that my glass of water had lipstick marks on one end of the glass. Food taste and quality: For the most part, the food tasted good. I found the bentos, gozen, etc., to be interesting with a good variety of food and with good portion size (not cheap, will touch on it later). It was odd, however, that they would serve Korean small dish appetizers in a decidedly Japanese restaurant. Maybe they ran out of the traditional Japanese ones and had to go get some from a grocery store? The other thing that irked me was the Chirashi. For a $39 chirashi, I would absolutely expect the fish to be cut in uniform sizes. For any medium or upscale restaurants, you can expect them to be cut like regular pieces of sashimi. What I got were some cubes, some pyramids, and skme rectangles. No circles though so that was good. It was an interesting lesson in geometry again, perhaps the toddler in me would enjoy building mini lego blocks out of fish. For a mini chirashi, I could understand using smaller pieces. For an entree chirashi, toy blocks need not appear. Overall experience, value, etc: Things feel kinda disconnected. They took nice pictures. They spent money decorating the place to look modern and chic. But also used plastic plates that you would see in teriyaki joints. The way the fish was cut felt kinda like eating poke in a nice ceramic bowl/dish. As of writing, for the most part, pricing entrees at $40 means you're dining at a decent restaurant. What I felt was paying for an expensive value meal so to larger than average portions, and missing the mark on quality/fanciness. Things might feel more coherent if it's located not in downtown Bellevue, but at a location where costs of running the restaurant were lower. I might've given them another star if they gave me some OG listerine to rinse off the other patron's lipstick. read more

We visited TheKoi in Bellevue for the first time a couple weeks ago to celebrate a birthday and wedding anniversary. We had previously visited their Tacoma location when we were in the area. Their Bellevue location was nice and street parking wasn't too difficult. We got a 12oz of the Gekkeikan Horin Junmai Daiginjo which was quite tasty and the presentation was nice. We also got chicken karaage which was hot and crispy. The ikura, scallop, and uni don was delicious and very beautifully presented. We also got the sashimi box which was presented nicely. A big group of my friends and I came to celebrate a couple of birthdays, and this restaurant really made the night special! When we made our reservation, we marked that it was a birthday celebration, and they went all out by setting up real rose petals and a handwritten card on our table. They even included a complimentary dessert for each of the birthday boys, which was such a thoughtful gift. We specifically chose this spot because we were intrigued by the happy hour menu. I ordered the Las Vegas and Bad Boy rolls, and both were excellent with good portions given the price. Everyone else in our group ordered various items from the happy hour and cocktail menus and had nothing but good things to say. Beyond the special birthday touches, the service was truly great. The green tea cheesecake was also yummy, it's the standard cheesecake not the softer Japanese kind. The service was slower and they apologized for it and comp us with an extra dessert which was nice. To preface, I came for SRW once with my family for lunch and another time with my partner for dinner. 1 thing I really hated about the SRW week menu is that the lunch menu was only available during weekdays but that wasn't specified at all! We came to the restaurant expecting to order from the lunch menu, but were disappointed to see we'd have to order from the dinner menu which was pricier than expected for a lunch. What a lovely place to enjoy a sushi meal!! The ambience was elegant but relaxing. The service was phenomenal! Friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being overbearing. There were some hiccups during the meal, but they made up for it in their service. The sushi was delicious...we got the Volcano Lobster Roll which was a presentation in itself. This is a review specifically for Seattle Restaurant Week. My husband and I came here for the lunch special since it's such a good deal: appetizer, main (we got chirashi & bento box), and a dessert for $25. What a steal! Normally their bentos are over $30, and it's the same bento that you would normally get on the menu. Everything was amazing. Service was a little slow given the fact that they were not super busy, but I think the food definitely made up for it. For bento you get two choices of mains: chicken, tofu; salmon teriyaki. I ordered two salmon teriyaki with sauce on the side. I also like their salad dressing which tastes homemade. The green tea Tirimisu was also delicious. But on the sweet side. Apparently me and Bellevue restaurants have beef for dinner because the 2 times we've visited, we got skipped on the waiting list. 100% pissed off for dinner in Bellevue so already I started off in a bad mood cause of it. We came here for dinner on our last night and had a reservation for 6pm. They let us know there would be a wait so we were okay with that and sat at the bench next to the check in counter. Based off what we could see, it looks like the people in front are new and arent sure what they're doing so I feel iffy about this place already. Well another lady who came in 10 mins behind us let them know she had a reservation at 6:45 and of course she gets seated before us. So we ask them at the desk and they cant find our names on the list and don't know what happened but the guy did remember checking us in. The food was okay too. There was a good wait for the food and I'm sure they only gave us our food "quickly" because of the skipping mishap. The people who came in right before us were seated 20 mins before us and they still hadn't gotten their food when by the time we were done eating. The king salmon had a weird taste to it. Not sure if it was the sauce or the king salmon itself though. The sushi was okay for the price. We spent over $100 on this meal for a bleh experience. Which sucks cause I was looking forward to it but yeah I dont really recommend unless you're okay with potentially getting skipped and waiting for a long time. read more

TheKOi is a japanese restaurant in the Bellevue area located underneath condos. They have a good mix of Raw and cooked foods if you come with people that don't eat raw. It's pretty nice on the inside. I might come here if other places had a longer wait. It can get a little bit busy towards dinner time though. Staff: nice (4/5) Sanitation status: (5/5) Lychee Gimlet (4/5) The drink was pretty good. You could taste the lychee in it. I would've preffered for my drink to be a little bit fuller but it was good. Snow Crab Salad (5/5) This salad was really good, the dressing was really tasty. It had a tarrtness that went really well with the assorted greens they had. The snow crab didn't taste super fresh but it wasn't a bad amount. Agedashi Tofu (3/5) They use hard tofu for their dish here, I typically like a softer tofu and some of the breading on it slipped off. The sauce was good but nothing special. Unadon (4/5) The Unadon left a little bit to be desired. It seemed smaller than other ones I've had before. The Unagi had parts that were a little more charred than other, overall it was pretty good but I would've preferred more sauce on the unagi or in the rice. Spider Roll (4/5) The Spider roll was good but nothing too special. The soft shell crab inside was still warm so that was nice to know that it was fresh. Volcano Lobster Roll (4/5) This was better than I expected. There is shrimp and crab mixed on the inside and they always serve it flaming so a fun dish. We had 3 different servers who didn't seem to communicate and ended up asking for the bill 3 times to three different people before we got it? This place was a different sushi restaurant Flo but changed to a new restaurant called THeKOi and has been here a little over a year (according to the server). I was looking for a pretty low key place I could go eat by myself with decent food while I was waiting for my car to get cleaned and this place exceeded my expectations. I will say, the decor is kind of meh.. with the dark tables and the lighter beige/brown colors, it feels a little clashing in terms of ambiance, but it was definitely a comfortable place, big with tall ceilings... It's just not a late night trendy place like Japonessa or STK. For me, and important thing i always look for is being able to get a variety of foods, but when you're eating by yourself that's hard without ordering too much food. They have these meals that start with a "g" but I don't know what the full name is, and it's not on the pdf on their online menu for some reason. The meals are kind of like Bento boxes in terms of variety but like of all the best things to eat at a Japanese restaurant. They were like $35 to $38 and They have 4 or 6 different varieties to choose from (some more sushi heavy, a cook salmon one, mackerel, etc.). The one I chose came with a miso soup, salad, tempura, salmon poke, 4 small little veggies side dishes (like banchan), Udon, grilled mackerel, rice and a spam misubi.. Yes, all of that (posted a photo below). I thought it was going to be a tiny tasting of each because of the price, but no... It was so much food! I felt bad because I was only able to eat like 75% of it. I was dumb and ordered salmon nigiri and tobiko sushi as well since I thought it was going to be too small. I like how they made an effort to decorate the salmon nigiri and used different colors for the tobiko. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place, especially for the price. It was pretty quiet when I stopped by around 130 pm on a Saturday so you probably don't have to worry about waiting in a line. Service was really friendly and attentice. I think it's owned by Koreans (not that I matters), but I heard the chefs speaking in Korean to each other. Anyway, I definitely recommend this place for some good food and if you're hungry! The quality is good and price for downtown Bellevue was so shocking to me given all of the food I got. Sushi is medium+ quality, there are large-ish amounts of rice for the amount of fish ratio, but it is decent. Main complaint about sushi quality was that the fatty tuna had lots of tendons and it was not possible to chew all the way for it, which I have never experienced for that cut. Likely an overlook on how the tuna was prepared. The uni was pretty tasty, so that source is good. Rice is neutral flavor mostly. I also don't believe there was wasabi under the nigiri fish, or if there were it was very minimal. I ordered takeout and had to wait 20 ish minutes, after Doordash said it was ready, and I showed up. We had such a great time here! The restaurant is not big but it's very nice inside with a more upscale ambiance. The service was friendly but the food was the major stand out to me. I am making my way down the list of places that are on Resy to use my monthly Resy credits and this is one I was interested in due to the lunch specials and opening hours. I didn't need to make a reservation and was able to walk right in. I tried the sashimi gozen which featured 5 pieces of different types of sashimi like salmon, tuna, albacore along with udon, tempura, fruit, some side dishes, and rice. I got started with salad and miso soup that were decent. Overall, it was $29 before tax and tip so definitely still on the pricier side. However, the sashimi is really fresh and the cut is very tender, so I do have to give them credit for that. The tempura is decent and the udon was flavorful but not the best - a bit soft and lacked a bit of chewiness or bounciness. The side dishes were good. For a restaurant at this price point, I was a bit disappointed with the service. They failed to give me rice initially and I had to proactively call it out and get the rice. The water refills were lacking and I also had to call it out - I was expecting them to consistently top it off since similar Japanese restaurants do that. read more

We came for a quick Monday night dinner to scope the place out, as we're considering it as an option for out-of-town guests. The ambiance was relaxed and comfortable, and it was easy to have a conversation without needing to raise our voices. Service was a highlight--staff were attentive, friendly, and checked in on us multiple times throughout the meal. We had planned to order more depending on how the first few plates were, but unfortunately the initial dishes were disappointing enough that we didn't end up ordering anything else off the menu. I usually order ikura (salmon roe) to gauge the quality and freshness of the seafood, and this was not it. The roe didn't taste fresh, the eggs were on the smaller side with a slightly chewy membrane, and there was a faint metallic aftertaste. We also ordered the "traditional" futomaki and a salmon avocado roll. The futomaki wasn't authentic and didn't work flavor-wise--the asparagus overpowered everything, the pickled carrots were squishy and unbalanced, and the tamagoyaki tasted store-bought. The rolls were inconsistently cut, with the futomaki sliced extremely thin, making it fall apart easily. The salmon avocado roll was better, with tender, flavorful salmon, though the avocado varied from piece to piece and leaned overripe in spots. Overall, despite the pleasant atmosphere and strong service, the food fell short, and we wouldn't return. read more

Had a reservation for dinner on a Tuesday evening. Everyone was very friendly! We were seated promptly but that's where the timeliness ended. It took awhile for waters to be brought and drink orders to be taken. We should have ordered all of our food at once because it took another 30-45 min before we were able to order our main dishes. Someone tried to take our menus after we received our apps but even then no one came to take our order. We had to ask to order food and then still waited for someone to come by. We arrived at 6:15 and were not able to order our mains until 7:30. It was about a 3 hour meal by the end of it. The food was great! Lots of different tuna roll options which made it hard to decide. I got the Sumo Roll which was extremely spicy. This would have been fine except no one came to fill up our waters. I requested more water and received a half glass because the pitcher ran out. They said they'd be back with more and never returned. I want to love this place because I really enjoyed all of the food, but the service was absolutely abysmal (slow and no water refills). I've ordered from here in the past and used to enjoy the food here. I ordered for pickup and I got to the restaurant just one minute ahead of the pick up time. The restaurant continued to have me wait in the lobby for 40 minutes leaving half of our order out in the open to get warm. There was no communication on when our order would be done either despite checking in with the staff multiple times. When I got to eat the food, the cold food was warm and vice versa. When I called the restaurant back they did bare minimum to rectify the situation by offering to make us more food, which obviously no longer sounded appetizing. If you're reading this please save your money and go to Minamoto or Japonessa. read more

Came here on a Friday afternoon for an early dinner around 4 PM after shopping at Bellevue Square and there were tons of tables available! Service was excellent and very quick, with our waiter checking on us often and ensuring that we had water at all times. The sushi here is incredibly fresh and delicious and I liked the ratio of fish to rice - 1/3 rice and 2/3 fish. The ambiance is great - the room is very open and airy with lots of natural light. My friend and I chuckled because the music selection was from our college clubbing days where EDM was reaching its height so we enjoyed our meal while listening to Kaskade. New nice little hidden gem in Bellevue. Saw this place on Instagram and knew we had to check it out. It is off the busy streets of Bellevue so that's good. It is restaurant week so they have specials of amazing deals and bento boxes however we decided to just order apps and drinks. The lychee martini known as chef kiss on the menu is definitely chef kiss. So good. We started we spicy edamame and shishito pepper with a miso glaze. Fabulous. We then ordered the fire cracker shrimps, dumplings and tuna tacos. The shrimp and the dumplings were good but the star of the show was the tuna tacos. My friend and I were fighting over the last one. Didn't get to try any of the sushi the lunch and dinner deals will definitely have me going back. The only thing I would say is service is a bit slow. Our waiter was training someone and by 7 came the restaurant was busy and I think the servers were overwhelmed. Other than that can't wait to go back and try more of what THeKOi has to offer! What a great location! I hate having to park in a garage to eat in Bellevue, so this restaurant being street facing is everything! Let's see how the food goes. *post meal* This place was okay. The staff are extremely friendly, and the restaurant was quiet. I can definitely see myself coming here for sushi after work. With that said, the restaurant didn't blow me away. I believe this restaurant is new (or under new management), so I will check back in a few months to see if they've settled on. read more

Amazing curry, great Katsu, and great ramen proportions! Flavor is great :) Forgot the fish cake in the ramen though and the menu had inconsistent pricing. Bought a 300ml sake bottle for the listed $28, only to check the online menu it be $58 instead. I didn't care about it in the moment, but afterwards, I could only feel I was bait and switched. I would love to go back and give it another try to update this review. I'd mostly recommend, just make sure you know what you're getting. read more
