Lunch date with my coworkers! Such a hidden gem. Everything was so yummy!
    Amy V.

My coworkers and I always walk past this hidden gem during our breaks. We decided to come for a lunch date and omg we are all so impressed with it! It's a mom and pop shop with a husband and wife duo working the grill and counter. The food was so yummy and flavorful!!! We're definitely going to come back and have future lunch dates here. We got the pork banh mi and pork vermicelli bowl. Everything was on point and we finished all our food. Price is very reasonable given that it's located in downtown. If you want to support a local business, definitely come here! The owners were super nice and appreciative that we stopped by for lunch. It's true that during the weekdays, the lines are out the door. It's best to call ahead and walk over to pick up your food if working from downtown.

    So delicious pho

Overall: 4/5 Food Taste: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Service: 3.5/5 Came here for lunch and grabbed a Pork Bahn Mi. The line was out the door, but it moved quickly. The Bahn Mi was SOLID! The most important things are the BREAD and the MEAT. The meat was juicy, tender and sweet. The bread was fresh, the fasho got it this morning! Definitely a SOLID choice and super affordable prices! This is not the best Bahn Mi out there, but for lunch downtown under $9, this hits the spot!

This is a mom n pop ran family business. It's just the both of them churning out the food, Monday - Friday 10am-2pm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is tiny and divey. It's counter service with some outdoor patio seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's always busy during the weekday lunch with a line out the door. The line moves relatively quick though. The menu has Vietnamese, Chinese, and American options with the likes of shrimp spring rolls, banh mi, teriyaki chicken, fried rice, Vietnamese beef stew, burgers, and fries just to name a few. Food is basic and tasty. Classic fare. I've had their banh mi, both the grilled chicken and grilled pork. $7.99. The sandwiches are loaded with meat and are a hefty size. The meat is tender with good flavor. The baguette is classic banh mi. Soft interior with crunchy, flaky top crust. Top notch, I have also ordered the Vietnamese beef stew. The broth is pretty darn tasty, it has the classic tangy bright profile. The chunks of braised beef is tender and fork shreddable. If you order this, just be aware it will take longer to prepare because they will need to heat a batch. They use a pot on the stove and not a microwave for that. The stew is served with a whole baguette, the same ones used for the banh mi.

Wonton Soup. Great flavor. If you're Vietnamese there is a very nostalgic flavor to this soup.

Coming in, the place is SMALL. It reminds me of coming into someone's home and waiting in the kitchen for the food to be done cooking because they make most of the items on the spot. I'd say getting Vietnamese food such as banh mi, spring rolls, vermicelli noodles, pho, soup, etc. is a solid choice. It is not the best and is slightly overpriced compared to the places in South Sacramento but compared to the prices downtown.. It is definitely on the lower end and tasted good enough for me to keep coming back. The owners are also really cute and friendly. Some of the Chinese food looked kind of sketchy so I have not tried it so this review is based on mainly the Vietnamese food choices.

I stopped at Yummy Choice impulsively while walking by on my way to a meeting. I had some time before my meeting and when I saw they had Banh Mi options on the menu I was sold. It's a small shop, great for quick to-go orders. They have some ready made hot options as well as items they make fresh when you order. I had to get the grilled pork Banh Mi and saw that they had grilled meat pork spring rolls so I bought them as well. They have fountain drinks, bottled drinks and iced tea available for drinks and they have utensils and sauces available to grab before you head out. My sandwich only took a few minutes to be ready and they handed me a bag with my items while I was taking some photos. The sandwich was huge and the spring rolls were stuffed, probably some of the biggest spring rolls I've had in a while. Everything tasted great. The bread was soft and fluffy and the sandwich as a whole was great, I loved the crunchy veggies with their sauce and the pork. I'll definitely be back to try more from their menu soon.

I really love this small lunch spot for the Vietnamese soups, spring rolls and salads. But they also have many other items on the menu. To my surprise today, they are now serving cold or hot sandwiches and hamburgers and fries. This is a husband and wife owned restaurant, they are super friendly and make delicious food. There will also soon be more seating outside, stop by and give them a try for lunch!

2 item lunch special with chow mein, lemon grass pork, and steamed vegetables.
    Lisa T.

I keep coming back for the lemongrass grilled pork so I can't speak to anything else just yet. I'm from the SGV, born and raised, and my Vietnamese flavor preferences lean Canto: this lemon grass pork tastes like home. It tastes like the thit nuong i grew up eating tastes like. Being specific because i think different communities cook their dishes differently so it comes down to preferences and what you're used to. I've been unimpressed by charbroiled pork at other spots in Sac so far because it's usually not enough charbroiled enough and too saucey or overly marinaded. I get the 2 item combo with chow mein and plain veggies. The two side items are on the lighter flavor profile side but for me they are the perfect balance with the pork. I'd definitely do the rice noodle w fish sauce except the portion is pretty large so fish sauce drenched vermicelli and lettuce wouldn't keep very well. I'm usually able to split my order into two different meals so it's quite a bit of food. Also love that it's made by an uncle and auntie. Support small businesses!

Shrimp Spring Rolls and Thai Tea
    Franny Z.

This review is solely for the Spring Rolls. My friend brought me Spring Rolls and a Thai Tea. This is probably the best spring roll I have ever had. The peanut sauce even had a nice kick to it. The tea was yummy too. My friend ordered food and hated it that she tossed it. Not sure what she ordered.

My favorite go to spot for lunch when I am in the office in DT Sac. I typically order the pork Banh Mi sandwich at Yummy Choice for lunch. Great lunch price and as you can see in the pic, they pack it with meat! So good!

First time experiencing the menu outside of Dim Sum. Here are my notes:…read more Special Fried Rice in Claypot - Refreshing fried rice due to the addition of the cilantro. You can taste the umami from the roe and other ingredients that I am not entirely sure are but taste familiar. I enjoyed and loved it. Mapo Tofu - Firm Tofu and good sauce. Although I do enjoy more of a Sichuan-style spicy mapo tofu (with the very numbing taste), I still found this mapo tofu delicious as you can taste the flavor of the pork and sauce coating the tofu. 2 Entree BBQ Platter: Roast Duck and Empress chicken - I'm biased towards roast duck. I love roast duck so any roast duck is good to me. Not a lot of comment on the duck. However, the Empress Chicken is nicely seasoned with the whatever broth they cooked it in. One of the few Empress Chickens where I can enjoy it without the scallion-ginger oil, but the scallion-ginger oil still elevates this Chicken to a higher level. Congee with Pork and Preserved Egg - Comforting and triggers a lot of nostalgic feelings for me. I didn't have to add too much additional soy sauce or chili sauce because the congee has a great base flavor. Preserved egg and pork weren't too chunky, rice was not too "mushy", and the overall congee was in a good thickness to create a nice mouth feel for each bite. Will visit again to try the other dishes.

Drinks aren't rated, as they don't sell house cocktails (though they sell a small selection of beers and wines). All-in-all a solid menu. The dilemma is that we generally felt unwelcome. We came by on a Sunday evening at 6:30 pm (and paid and left by 8:20 pm which is 10 minutes before closing). We were a party of 8 with diverse backgrounds, and with exception to one server (a woman wearing red who was maybe a manager), the staff just weren't friendly toward us. I will say that one woman in red was so kind. She made sure to say "bye" as we left. I will add one of my friends mistakenly tried to take a pair of chopsticks (as they are set on the table in a paper slip). She didn't realize they were store owned/reusable vs throwaway. She quickly apologized, but that became the final straw of awkwardness with the staff. The food was genuinely great with appropriate prices, so I may give it another shot down the road as a date night option.

A great spot for a solid Chinese meal--and surprisingly, an amazing banana cream pie!…read more The service was friendly overall, although our table wasn't checked on very often since it was so busy. That said, the food more than made up for it. Our favorite dish by far was the Spicy Calamari with Basil. It's something I'd absolutely come back for--the calamari was tender with a great texture, and the sweet, savory flavors paired perfectly with everything else we ordered. The Garlic Chili Green Beans were another standout. They had great flavor and still retained a nice crunch instead of being overly soft, giving them the perfect stir-fried texture. The Vegetable Chow Fun (with beef added) was decent but a little dry for my taste, so it's probably not something I'd order again. By the end of the meal we were completely stuffed, but we couldn't resist trying the banana cream pie. It looked huge when it arrived, and we honestly didn't think we'd finish it--but it was so delicious that we ended up eating the whole thing. Definitely don't skip dessert! I also appreciated that when I asked for hot sauce, they brought out several different options to try, including what seemed like a garlic chili sauce, chili crisp, hot mustard, and sweet and sour sauce. It was a fun touch that let us customize each bite. The restaurant also has a lot of history and character. We walked in casually without realizing it was a more upscale sit-down restaurant, but it ended up being one of the highlights of our day. If you go, the Spicy Calamari with Basil and the banana cream pie are absolute must-orders!

My goal is to come here during dine downtown week in January to try that menu since I hear it's worth it. For parking, it's either street parking or you can do valet parking in the garage right next door. There is no self parking in the garage. Street parking is self parking. The restaurant itself is like a long, large hallway. When you walk in, your greeted by the host desk. Then you walk towards the back and pass a bunch of booths, tables and the bar area to the right. It's built like a Craftsman style layout. When I was here recently, it was for a friend's birthday and there was a group of 10+ of us. They only do family style food so our group was split into 2 tables and each table ordered their own entrees and meals to eat family style. I was at a table of perks I had just met that night, but we had no issues sharing plates. This may not be for everyone, do you can still order your own entrees, but there won't be much variety if you don't have a lot of people. The food was good. We ordered wallet shrimp, Buddha's delight, the curry noodles/chow mein, garlic green beans and chicken chow mein. All three good was good. I would say it's above average and comparable to Din Tai Fung, but a bit cheaper. I liked the walnut shrimp, garlic green beans and buddhas delight. Service was decent. It could've been better, but could've been worse. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. I'll be back when dine downtown rolls around.

I saw a couple of other Elites dining in when I was ordering, but it was so busy I couldn't properly say hi, so "HI DAVID AND EVA!" I'll have to keep an eye out for their next review, because whatever they had looked delish! I waited in the car for a bit and then when the order still needed a few more minutes I popped into the dollar store next door to kill a bit more time. Before I knew it my order was ready to go. They packed everything really nicely and we served it up as soon as we got home. Their rice noodle rolls are so flavorful and I love the sweet, salty and savory sauce that comes with it. The noodles are really filling, and the dishes we got would be enough food for 2-4 people depending on how hungry you are. We ate the rice rolls right away and then had leftover green beans and beef and mushrooms for lunch today. The green beans were fresh and had a great garlic flavor, without it being too much. The Beef and Mushrooms was great, the beef was tender and flavorful and the mushrooms soaked up all the sauce. There were also green beans in this dish, which was a perfect addition. The food came out fast and piping hot. Pretty soon our entire table was covered with dishes. We started with the hot and sour soup, which we both felt was lacking in the flavor department. It didn't have that spicy tang that you look for when you order hot and sour soup. The potstickers were fried crispy, but the dough was a little too thick. The spicy cucumbers had no flavor to them at all. And the honey walnut shrimp was not memorable. We both felt that the two best dishes were the BBQ pork fried rice and the Mongolian beef. The beef was tender and had good flavor. The prices were extremely fair and the portions were large, but all in all this was not my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area.

Our table had nine people and they only provided 6 buns with our peking duck. I thought they didn't have enough steamer space and was going to bring more but nope. The shrimp in their salted egg pumpkin and shrimp dishes was overcooked and their deep fried pig intestines were extremely stinky.
