I've lived on this side of West Sac for years and finally decided to stop in at Eastside Chef for a late lunch. I was seated very quickly when I arrived. There are a lot of tables and booths inside the restaurant. Plenty of parking as it's located in the Town Center Plaza. I arrived a bit too late for the lunch specials, so decided to go with a combination plate. I had the orange chicken and the plate came with pork friend rice, an egg roll and bowl of soup. I ordered the wonton soup. The wonton soup was very light and subtle. The orange chicken was delicious. The breading was light and I could taste the orange, which was fantastic. The egg roll was super crispy. The fried rice was a little dry and just warm, but everything else was hot and fresh. All of the servers checked on me frequently and boxed up my food when I was done. I'll definitely be stopping by again, hopefully next time I'll make it for the lunch specials!

I am always on the hunt for authentic Chinese food in my area and found Eastside Chef while searching on Yelp! The moment we walked in we were greeted and seated. Greeted with the most friendly and polite manner. I always ask what's the servers favorite dish which I am sure gets asked often but I'm always curious- so I asked. I was provide 3 of the servers favs and picked the sesame chicken. I also tried the general chicken and grabbed the Mongolian beef to go. The lunch special comes with fried rice and chow meringues. You can also opt for all chow mien and all fried rice- up to you. The flavors for the sesame chicken were sweet and tangy and liked the sesame seed flavor to it. The general chicken was just as tasty! The chicken was crunchy drenched in the sauce. I mixed my chow mien in the left over sauce and it was perfect. Ohhh they have fountain soda and the server was so observant we didn't even have to ask, came over and refilled the cup. Overall, great place, authentic tastes, amazing service, and a great location.

Top left corner was barely any Kung pao chicken, middle filled with chow mein, and top right filled with rice

saw the reviews on this place and feels like i got duped. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken lunch special to go. it was $15 and I got like 5 little pieces of chicken with a crap ton of filler vegetables. celery, onions, etc. the sauce and flavor was good but why do you have to put so much rice and chow main and barely any of the main dish? thanks for nothing! i guess if you order to go be prepared for very little protein. instead of putting the main dish you ordered in the center part of the Togo box they stuff that with chow mein, what you ordered is put in the small upper compartment and finally rice in the other small compartment. I should've just went to chipotle.

Orange chicken and pork fried rice combo plate

Orange chicken by far one of the best. Served hot & fresh. Great flavor with the perfect amount of orange, not too over powering with the orange. A little spicy but perfect. Pork fried Rice was good but would've preferred the chicken fried rice.. next time. Chicken& Broccoli was also great tasting and served hot. Chicken was tender and freshly cooked. Combo plates are served with an eggroll and soup. Egg flour soup was good . Service is always great and restaurant always clean.. lots of seating available.

$13 for this? I can do better at Panda Express... SMH!

I had the lunch special and it was nothing special. General chicken and rice. The amount of chicken given was ridiculous. The steamed rice was overcooked. Something so simple but it wasn't fluffy and soft. The chicken had a very weak flavor if that's what you want to call it. I was very disappointed and won't be going back.

Don't order the lunch special but order the dinner special. Much better value for your money and the food is exquisite.

Now this is what a good neighborhood Chinese joint is supposed to be! They're not tryna hit you…read moreover the head with the prices, they're tryna put you to sleep with their portions. Man, what a nice little find. After a very long Friday, I needed a pick me up- some guilty pleasure vibes ya know? The uncle at the front (I'm assuming the owner) is pleasant to talk to and seems to take pride in what he does. That's hard to come across nowadays. Anyway, orange chicken is fire. Indecisive? Fried rice and noodles 50/50 option with the dinner special is the combo you need. Salt and pepper wings and the Rangoon didn't really hit hit, which is a shame because I feel like those are low-hanging fruit. Most decent places will only check off 2 of 3 between price, portion, and taste. And if your local Chinese spot ain't even hitting that, it's time you find another one. Although the apps could use a lil more TLC in the R&D department, This place gets close to giving you all 3 of the above.

The cucumber salad at this place has been on my mind for the last 4 days. In a desperate attempt to…read morerecreate it, I used too much garlic and made a giant mess in my kitchen. So I'm planning my next trip here this week so I can enjoy the amazing cucumber salad (so fresh, crunchy and garlicky), their pepper beef clay pot (sizzling rice at the bottom for the win and big portions), their spicy tofu (umm what?!? So crispy) and their awesome skewers (the pork belly is my favorite). The space is small, so if you're planning on dining in during peak times, you may want a back up or take it to go as they only have a handful of tables inside and a few tables outside. There is parking but it is shared with other business so can get busy. The service is wonderful! The hostess/waitress was very friendly and everything came out relatively quick. The clay pot does take some time (they need to cook up the rice to get that awesome crunchy bottom) so place your order for that first, and then look at the appetizers and skewers as they come out fast. This was my first trip but will not be my last to Da Fei Ge!

It was nice enough that I tried to come here on a weekend night and it was packed full of families which is great but probably where I should have thought about it more. We went up to the counter and were told to wait a few minutes. I saw that a large table was clearing up so I didn't mind waiting. During this time a group came up behind us and I thought they were after us. One of the server waved in our general direction after cleaning up and splitting the table, so I thought they were gesturing to us since it has already been 10 minutes of waiting. Wrong, it was to the group behind us. Maybe it was communicated in mandarin that they had a reservation, I'm not sure. I waited for the next empty table, which was also taken by yet another group that magically appeared behind us as if they knew they were in line. I decided to leave after this. My issue is that I looked and talked to the staff multiple times and at no point, did they indicate there was a waitlist, nor did they take my name, or anything about people in front of us. It was really frustrating because being told it would be a few minutes set the wrong expectation. This is not the only place to get skewers so if you're left confused where you are in line, just come another weekday, speak mandarin, or go somewhere else like I did

** Takeout experience only **…read more Wow. Thank goodness. I finally have a good Chinese spot. Despite there being endless selections in Sacramento sometimes the American Chinese options are .... bleh ... They are either too oily. Mediocre taste. Overpriced. It's hard to find one that really stands out. Recently my coworkers and I all pitched in on takeout from here for Lunar New Year and ordered five dishes as takeout. One of my coworkers was the one who recommended this spot. Let me just say the food was incredible. The seafood chow mein was the standout dish out of everything. Loaded with octopus tentacles, scallops, shrimp. Feel like half the time you get seafood options these days they skimp out but this place did not disappoint. The fried rice was a little more unique than I've personally tried before with pieces of beef and cabbage. But still very tasty. And the pork dishes we got including the sweet and sour were just incredible. One thing I do want to mention was some pieces of the pork did have a bone attached, but I honestly didn't mind it much. The flavor made it up for it. Also inside of this place looks very modern, clean. Since we only got takeout I can't say for certain service for sit down but ordering and getting our food was simple. The staff were very kind and friendly. Again, THANK GOD I finally have a good Chinese food option. No more oily salty food or Panda Express.

The staff was friendly, which we appreciated, but unfortunately the food just didn't live up to expectations. We ordered several dishes, and most of them lacked flavor. The chow fun was especially disappointing--it just wasn't tasty at all. The orange chicken looked great, but honestly, I'd say Panda Express has more flavor. The chow mein and fried rice were also pretty bland. The chicken with vegetables was okay, nothing special. The highlight for us was definitely the chicken and cilantro dumplings--they were actually really good (which makes sense given the restaurant's name). Overall, it just wasn't for us.
