Came here on a Monday for lunch. We arrived a little past noon and the place was packed. They have a few tables in the front and about four tables in the back. Hole in the wall Vietnamese spot serving up some A1 pho and Banh mi sandwiches! I particularly liked the egg rolls. The crunch on them was perfect. Meaty filling and soft cabbage. They were perfect. Save your money please! I offer rate steak and meat balls. When I got it. All of my rare steak was inside the soup cooking as they were handing it to me, so I had to give it back to them and ask them to put the meat on the side. The way I found out about Kim's is kinda funny because I got called in for jury duty and stumbled upon the restaurant during one of our lunch breaks. I noticed that there was a long line out the door during the lunch rush. Kim's ended up being a hidden gym as the Pork Banh Mi and Chicken Banh Mi sandwiches are incredible here. My favorite of the two is definitely the Pork Banh Mi. The bread is so fresh and delicious as well as all the fresh toppings and vegetables. I also recommend you get some Chicken Egg Rolls on the side. They are so good also!! Prior to finding Kim's, I thought the only good Banh Mi's were only in South Sac. The Banh Mi's here are definitely at the South Sac level. The only gotcha with Kim's is they close super early at 2:30 pm (M - F) and are not open on the weekends. read more

Amazing Pho! I'm a bit of a food snob and have had some really great Pho while traveling the world. Today I had lunch here and though the atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, the staff (owners), the lightning fast service and the food did not disappoint. 3 Years later, and I'm finally back again. I had some work to do in the area, so I decided to have lunch here. It was raining pretty badly, so pho sounded like the best option. The only thing that has changed since the last time I was here are the prices, but that is unavoidable, due to the direction this economy is going. The quality has not changed, still absolutely amazing and heart-warming with every sip of broth. The Banh Mi has a good amount of fillings for the price, and the bread is nice and fluffy, but also has a great crispiness. The service is very quick and attentive - I ordered my food, and it was all out within 5 minutes! There are only four or five people total working the store (front and back of house), but the attentiveness and consideration for the guests is great! Like last time, the surrounding area is pretty sketchy, but you cannot fall to the restaurant for that. We came at noon before the lunch rush. There are only 11 items on the menu, which made ordering easier for me. I went with the bbq shrimp with pork and egg roll over vermicelli. I enjoyed my meal overall, especially the pieces of pork. However, I didn't like the egg roll. It was dark and I didn't care for the filling. The broth of the pho was sweet, but the beef was good. Overall, I would not come here again. It's convenient for the people who work nearby for lunch, but not for me. I would have to find and pay for parking and deal with the construction going on. I had pass this place many times, but never stopped because the parking is kind of hard on J St., and it really doesn't look like a destination place. Although when I was on jury duty, had to find a place to eat, and was feeling in the mood for some pho. And a long line of business workers, please officers and tourist looking people despite their busyness everybody receive the best service, and most of the orders were to go. I was wanting to eat there. It was afraid I wasn't gonna find a place to see but lo and behold they have a whole area of seats that they've set up in the back, my pho was the shrimp and chicken and it was pretty standard although the soup had a bit of a sweet flavor which I found delicious the noodles weren't overcook and were the traditional size fun at all I was accompanied by lemon rather than lime, and Thai basil, jalapeños and bean sprouts. This is not only my favorite bowl of pho and Vietnamese spot in Sacramento, it's my favorite lunch spot...period. Everything about this experience I can't get enough of. My usual go-to is the chicken and shrimp pho, a big, steaming, glorious bowl sweet and savory broth, plenty of meat, noodles and all those delicious fresh veggie ingredients on the side. I've tried the banh mi and other pho soups as well, but this the holy grail of deliciousness. I now find myself coming back here even more now that it is the winter months. It's a hole-in-the-wall by every definition, and sometimes they are very crowded. But it's worth it. Add Kin's to your list of places to eat in Sactown. read more

They are the only place that serves authentic banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) in the area, at least to my knowledge. I didn't know if I would be able to enjoy vietnamese food in downtown since I never really see any. Luckily I found this place. Their banh mi is good. Service is also good,but it will get crowded during the lunch rush and can be a bit of a wait. They usually have the banh mi pre-made so you can be in and out, with the exception of the long line. They are more on the expensive side for a banh mi, so that's why I took away one star. But being the only Viet restaurant in the area, I can see why. I'll come here on weekdays when I'm craving Pho or viet food. Otherwise, I'll go to Stockton Blvd. read more
