We have had Yummy Bowl delivered to our nearby former place in Newport a few times. We never went in so I don't know how that is. The woman on the phone and the deliverer were both super nice and the orders were accurate. Tip them! The food has been plentiful, piping hot, and delicious. We love the BBQ pork, lo mein noodles, crab puffs, fried rice, and orange chicken. The egg foo young was really good and my kid's parter who is from Jersey said it was the best foo young gravy he has ever had. I do not like gravy so I don't really know, but he finished it! My kid loves the broccoli beef, it's a favorite. The meat is velvety and the broccoli was perfection. There is always a lot of protein in the lo mein unlike other places we have been. It is a little pricey, hello coast and tourists, but we usually have tons of leftovers unless the kid's partner is present. He polishes them off, lol. We stopped in last night for a first visit. While the place might be in need of some updating inside and out, it was very clean, and service was fast, friendly, and attentive. We had the chicken with assorted veggies and beef with broccoli, as well as some crab puffs (which l'd hoped were like Rangoons and they were). The dishes were large and the ingredients looked very fresh and appetizing. All of our food tasted quite good. I came here on Christmas and it was packed. Honestly, it was just a sea of elderly people with grey hair, 2 alternative kids, and me. The service was slow but that was to be expected when there was a party of 30 there. One thing that disappointed me was that I ordered two meals and only received one fortune cookie (I know. I should grow up. But it really did make me sad). I ordered the Mongolian beef and general tsao's chicken. The serving sizes are INSANE. I got 6 meals out of the two that I ordered. Also--the egg drop soup was so f'ing bomb. It had corn in it. CORN. Changed my life. I also got the sweet and sour soup as a starter (both of these were included with my meal) and it was SO good. The "Yummy (?) Bowl", Newport, Oregon My adult daughter and I just made the horrible mistake of choosing to dine at this so-called restaurant. I ordered the orange chicken dinner special, which came with "Crab Rangoon", fried rice, butterflied shrimp, and hot and sour soup. Two bites of the soup told me that it was neither hot nor sour, it was slightly sweet, with no trace of heat, and mediocre flavor. I added salt, LOTS of pepper, and some soy sauce and managed to get it down. The main platter was served, and The "Crab Rangoon" pastry shell was like leather; chewy and unpalatable. The filling was average, at best. The star of the show - the Orange Chicken - had a sauce that had never seen an orange. In fact, it looked and tasted very much like Sweet Baby Ray's Barbeque sauce. The chicken was very dry and unpalatable, without flavor. The rice was a disaster all by itself. Bland as bland could be, I added salt and soy sauce, but all I could taste was salt and soy sauce. Inedible. The butterflied shrimp had a nice-tasting crust, but the shrimp was tasteless as well. I left two uneaten. My daughter had a similar experience with her food. After each of us had eaten sparingly of what had been served to us, we looked at each other and agreed that the food was some of the WORST "Chinese" food we had ever eaten, We called the very young 'waiter' to our table and calmly and quietly explained the situation to him. His face remained blank, and he retreated into the kitchen, returning a moment later with our tab, reflecting a whopping 10% discount off of our $40 bill. I told him that that was an unacceptable response and asked to speak to the owner or manager. A couple of minutes passed, and I looked up to see an obviously angry, grim-faced woman walking purposefully toward our table. She stopped and asked what the problem was. I again went down the very long list of problems, and as I did so, she became even angrier and defensive, with an escalating volume and stridency to her voice. "Our Hot and Sour soup is world-famous" she proclaimed. People come back over and over for it. Grabbing my mostly-untouched plate, she cut a piece of the dry chicken and waggled the fork in my face - "This chicken is NOT dry" she bellowed. I tried to get a word in edgewise, but she was on a roll. By now, other patrons were looking at the scene. I told her I had eaten at MANY Chinese restaurants (I'm 79 years old) and so had my daughter, but this was the worst excuse for Chinese food that either of us had experienced, and that a 10% discount on uneaten food would not suffice. She then, very snottily, said. "You no want to pay, then don't pay", and walked away. So did we - we had completely lost our appetites by then - and the "Yummy Bowl" in Newport Oregon, need not be concerned about a return trip from us. There will be none, but we will spread the word of our experience. I can think of several adjectives that are more fitting in the name than the word "Yummy". read more

We will have leftovers for a couple of meals. We spent a few days on the coast and we are so happy we happened upon the Yummy Bowl. First, let me start with this statement - this is not a cheap but good Chinese place. It's an expensive but excellent Chinese place. My General Tso's Shrimp with just a side of broccoli was a $30 entree all-in (and this was a take-out/takeaway order). No other items in the order, just the shrimp and the broccoli. Just to note, when I asked for the side of broccoli, and the cashier said it was an additional charge of $7, I was surprised, and replied, "Holy smokes, that's a lot just to add broccoli." But I definitely wanted broccoli with it, so I paid it. When I got the order and opened up the bag, I then realised why the broccoli cost so much. I was expecting to get perhaps 6 or 7 broccoli florets added in with the General Tso's Shrimp all in one container. But that's not what I got. What I got was a separate container of broccoli that was as large as a stand-alone entree, with an extra container of General Tso's sauce for it. Lots of broccoli, let me tell you. I don't know where the breakdown in communication occurred, and it could well have been my fault, I may not have expressed clearly what I wanted, probably was my fault, but the end result was that I got a surfeit of broccoli. It's OK, it was delicious with the shrimp and rice, and also delicious with just the General Tso's sauce. On to the main event: The General Tso's Shrimp was superb, really delicious. I've eaten General Tso's Shrimp (and chicken) all over the world, including in a few cities in China, so I have plenty of benchmarks to compare this entree with, and it was excellent. In most Chinese restaurants in the States, the spicy heat that should be in the dish is replaced with a thick sweet glaze, because, you know, that's what most Americans like. It's rare to find General Tso's in it's original robust recipe with plenty of complex spicy heat. But here it is, in tiny Newport, Oregon. Kudos to the chef. read more

We just had lunch there 3 days ago. My wife became extremely ill after our meal. I wasn't ill but I did have stomach discomfort. I'm not sure what they add to their food, but it didn't agree with us this time. On top of that there was so much breading on the sweet and sour chicken, there was really very little chicken.
