The little old lady who served me was very sweet and had a good sense of humor.

I walked in while the employee was finishing up with another customer. As I waited, another customer came in, walked right past me to the register, and started ordering donuts. Instead of acknowledging that I had been waiting, the employee immediately started helping him and was about to ring him up. I had to stop the transaction and point out that I was there first. The employee claimed it was a mistake, but it never should have happened in the first place. If someone is clearly waiting, they should be helped before the person who just walked in. To make matters worse, the coffee wasn't good. The whole reason I stopped here was to avoid waiting in the Starbucks line, and I ended up with poor service and a disappointing coffee. Next time, I'll wait in line at Starbucks. I won't be coming back.

The place has generous seating available, always clean and never dirty or messy, and is in a prime business lot at the intersection of IB Blvd/Coronado Ave and 13th Street. I've only been back once since the place was sold and I wasn't really into the flavors offered at that time, plus they were no longer offering the maple eclairs. When I politely asked whether there were any samples so I could see what I might like, she replied, "We only give samples to kids, and you're not a kid." Another employee responded more professionally and simply explained that samples were unavailable. What bothered me most was not the policy--it was her dismissive attitude, the way she spoke to me, and how carelessly she threw the doughnuts into the box. I was only asking for assistance. If this is what Krispy Kreme considers "following the rules," the company needs to provide better customer-service training.

She then complained that they only had one baker and that the baker was working hard. We completely understand being busy and short-staffed. What we don't understand is what happened next. While waiting for our order, we watched two customers after us ask similar questions. The same employee went to the back to check for them, something she refused to do for us. My wife eventually spoke up because the difference in treatment was difficult to ignore. We have been regular customers at both locations and have never experienced anything like this before. The inconsistent treatment was concerning enough that it left us questioning why we were treated differently. Busy or not, every customer deserves the same basic courtesy and respect. We still enjoy the food, but management really needs to address the customer service and make sure employees understand that every customer should be treated with the same respect and dignity.
