Finally tried Side Chick in Imperial Beach and wow... My husband and I got the Cali Chick and the Skinny Chick so we could split them and try both. Both were amazing! The chicken was juicy, flavorful, and fresh. We also got the Cali Chick Fries and they were ridiculous. Large portion! Chill spot, friendly staff, & food was delicious! I had seen this place on a sign outside of Manolo market but only recently tried it out. I was really impressed with the chicken. I ordered the Basic Chick just to check it out it was only $5 which I thought was a great price. It was a plump piece of chicken cooked very well with a juicy flavorful inside. Very satisfied. I ordered a side of fries that unfortunately were disappointing. They seemed old even though I was there before 2:00 p.m. maybe it's just not their specialty. The ordering process through GrubHub was klutzy because three times, my order was rejected. Once I arrived, my food was quickly delivered. There were a lot of fries, thinly sliced but sadly, they were overdone. When I got them home, 25 minutes after pickup, I noted they were quite dry though kept a potato flavor. Still, they weren't so appetizing. The sandwich-- a Skinny Chick, was okay in size per it's price, though I'd been hoping it would be larger. For this recipe chicken is grilled. This chicken breast tasted okay, flavor-wise but was also not juicy. I'd asked only lettuce, jalapenos, and Skinny sauce, to which I added an order of pickles. Overall I filled up, though ate under 1/2 of the fries. Can't say the sandwich was very memorable. Guess the best thing was the server and the fact of there being no line when I was at the counter! Wow!!! This is by far the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. I ordered "The Western Chick" w/ Avocado, Bacon & Pepper Jack Cheese (additions cost extra). The chicken was cooked to perfection. Moist & Tender. Not tough & dry the way chicken can become. The Avocado was ripe, bacon crisp and cheese nicely melted. All too often with other restaurants the cheese is placed in cooled chicken which doesn't allow for the cheese to melt. The sandwich was huge! Big enough to where I could not finish it in one sitting. I also ordered a large side of Onion Rings. To my surprise they were battered rings not breaded. The execution was a fail. The main part of the sandwich, the chicken, was awful. The chicken for both sandwiches were dry and tasted stale.
