I completely understand that emergencies happen, but I was only notified by email. With guests already in town, I didn't see the email until just two hours before the party, leaving me scrambling to make alternate arrangements. For a cancellation this significant and this close to an event, a phone call to make sure the customer actually receives the message would have been the appropriate thing to do. I hope they take this feedback seriously, because better communication could have made a very difficult situation much easier to handle.
