We went for the bone broth, but weren't excited by any of the dishes with the bone broth in it. We ended up with the vegetarian pho. The mushrooms were plentiful and excellent. It's a pretty small place, so get there early. I definitely like the red sun better. read more

Great spring rolls and a great spot in downtown Nelson! Would definitely go back. :)

Yum Son has got some great food! The pho here is unreal and the staff were super friendly too. Service was fast as well. Definitely would recommend checking this spot out! read more

We had our anniversary dinner here and it was outstanding. Highly recommend the chicken wings. Best I've EVER had by a long shot. Friendly server, host and bartender. Very cozy place. read more

I ordered the Pho 20 and iced coffee... waited almost 30 minutes to get my order. So, waiting for a pho that long you would expect that this is really especial... not. Sorry to say, the dish did not even compare to other phos I've tasted. The broth lacks the sweetness, a jalapeño was added but does not work. And for 20$, I thought I would be getting the special. But no, I only got two types of beef, the raw beef and the brisket... It doesn't have the tripe, beef balls, and the tendon, which I look forward to when getting pho. To me it was over priced and did not even taste good. 2stars for the iced coffee (even though it cost 6$) and ambiance. read more

Definitely worth a stop if you are in Nelson! The food was tasty, if not very authentic. The drinks were as delicious as they were tasty and the service was great. I found the house soft serve ice cream skippable. It had an odd curdled texture and the flavor wasnt for me. Definitely appreciate having multiple veg options to pick from! read more

The pho is really bland which is primarily why anyone would go to a Vietnamese place. Service was friendly tho. I tried the bokchoy and shitake mushrooms, that's really tasty (that dish itself I give 5 stars) IMO, Pho soup should blow your socks off first sip before you season it with any of the sauces. Maybe I'm picky? Its worth a try anyway if you are craving Vietnamese. read more

This place is definitely a vibe. Chic and comfy at the same time, and the patio is lovely. The food is a contemporary spin on your Vietnamese classics. We had vermicelli salad and fresh rolls. Yummy, and rather large portions. The drinks, they are truly artisans on this front. The bar menu is a delight and we enjoyed the mai tai's topped with a flaming sugar cube. read more

I am so torn on this place. The location is great, the service is amazing, and the food is delicious. I had the pho shizzle which is: 24 hour grass-fed beef and organic chicken bone broth, duck & pork meatballs, thin sliced rare beef, rice noodles, mung bean sprouts, thai basil, cilantro, shaved jalapeno. The broth is good? But it's not a typical pho broth. I don't eat noodles, so I subbed them. $1 more for sliced cabbaged. I paid $3 for veggies. I got two pieces of broccolinni, 1 baby bok choy, and 3 slices of carrot. Expensive for what it was, I can understand that though. But they were whole pieces. I had to use a knife and fork. For soup. The duck and pork meatballs aren't made fresh, which destroy the broth. And they're so dry. The rare beef? It's given to you precooked, not raw, like every other pho restaurant when you order it on the side. So it's not as fresh as it should be. It's nice that a restaurant sources some great ingredients, but if you can't do the basics, it's a waste. read more

Whatever you do, you must order the crispy cauliflower dish with whichever sauce speaks to you. So, so good. We could have easily made a meal out of just this dish, but we both had other dishes, too. I had the noodle bowl with shrimp and the husband had the noodle bowl with chicken and pork. Both were delicious. Nice waitstaff and a no nonsense interior which made for a nice and comfortable dining experience. We'd definitely go back the next time we're in Nelson! read more

Where do I start? Food is outright incredible. Cocktails, delicious. Service, phenomenal. My second time going for a large group meal there and we weren't disappointed. Pauly the bartender was our server and hot damn he's charismatic and non stop laughs. Custom made me a cocktail that wasn't on the the drink menu and knocked it out of the park. Calamari, imperial spring rolls and sweet soy chili lime wings were ordered in multiples and loved by all. We were almost too full to eat our entrees of pho and noodle bowls. I'd list off all the cocktails we shared but there was too many to list as now this review is getting hard to write as I'm too full and sleepy now. To summarize. Eat and drink here!!! read more

Cool ambience, relaxing music and decent Asian eats in the mountains! The decor is modern and there was a nice mix of people eating at the bar. The menu has something for everyone. Beer and cocktail selection seem wider than the food menu . I knew the pho broth wouldn't be spot on authentic based on Yelp pics (which it wasn't) but a bowl of hot broth, noodles and hormone-free beef HIT THE SPOT! We ordered the prawn spring rolls for appys & it tasted fresh & light. The peanut sauce wasn't authentic (sorry I have to point that out since I'm VNese ) but again, it was still delicious! Their interpretation of VNese food is fresh, local & tasty and I really appreciate that. About the sauces... you aren't a VNese eatery until you nail down the sauces. They had sriracha, hoisin, , Red Boat fish sauce A++++ (top quality, no high fructose corn syrup, pricey stuff, ttly impressed!) & this house made hot sauce that had an awesome kick. We ordered 4 bowls of pho and 2 orders of spring rolls and the bill was $100, thank goodness for the exchange rate! In case you're picky like me, bathroom is super clean. Dessert menu looks yummy but we were too full I'll definitely eat here again before we leave. Thanks Yum Son! read more

My partner and I were on a road trip to Nelson and Ainsworth last week and tried Yum Son for lunch. My partner ordered the 5 spice and soda, which he thought was very interesting and I had the ha long mythical mix soda which was basically tropical juices mixed with soda. I'm not someone who likes overly sweet drinks so I liked it. We had the lunch special charcuterie board and the pho shizzle noodle soup. The charcuterie board had a freshly baked baguette, oxtail pate, chicken wings, pork belly, pickled veggies, and cured meat. Such a great concept and it was delicious. The pho, although not authentic was very good as well - the broth had a deep beef flavour. We both really liked the atmosphere at Yum Son and found the service great. If we're ever back in the Nelson area we'll definitely visit again! read more

The food was incredible and the service great . Highly recommended especially the chicken wings ....... YUUUUUM !

This little place was adorable! We were lucky to get a seat right away in the solarium area with big bay doors out to the patio. The decor was really warm and inviting while still being quietly minimal. I ordered a lemon ginger soda that was perfectly sweetened and a nice compliment to the savoury mushroom steamed buns and peaceful noodle bowl that followed. I was excited about the 'buns' because it's hard to find vegetarian steamed buns usually but these were more like flatbread tacos than traditional buns. The bread was soft and the filling was full of flavourful mushrooms so I still enjoyed them! My noodle bowl was so fresh and full of delish herbs and peanuts and perfectly seasoned tofu. We really enjoyed our night out here! read more

Super fun place, great fusion food and amazing cocktails! We went a few times while in Nelson for a trip. The buns are pretty good (tried the pork and the chicken) along with the Calamari. They did fusion right! The drinks were super good! Would recommend the Spice n Fancy and the Saigon Sour. They had happy hour too which was great to try a few more of the drinks. Service staff were friendly and great, the restaurant was busy but they were fast with food and drinks! read more

Great room, awesome service. Incredible food. We came in with our two year old and the staff had crayons for her right away. Started with a caesar and the ginger chicken bao buns and they were both incredible. I had the sweet soy chili pepper wings and they were amazing. The kids menu portions are generous for the price point, as was everything else. Great place. Will definitely go back. read more

Great spot, great service, good menu. 2 choices for pho, only qualm would be the broth is too cold. I spoke to the waiter and I guess it is suspected the pottery used is sucking the heat from the broth, as the rare beef was not cooked :-( too bad because the broth was delicious and the brisket was amazing! My friend had the mushroom Pho and said the mushrooms were delicious! read more

My husband and I were driving through Nelson and stopped at Yum Son on Thursday (Nov 17th). It was crazy busy but they were able to get us a table and our server Lindsay was so accommodating and lovely we will definitely be going back just for her!!! Delicious Vietnamese food with excellent service. We ate out on the patio and had a lovely dinner of Pha and Imperial Rolls.

Ate here after 3 days of backcountry skiing in a row, and it was so delicious and so satisfying. If I lived in Nelson, I would probably eat at Yum Son every day. Get the plant-based Pho! So good. read more

I have eaten a lot of salad rolls in my life and these were the best ones I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Larger than normal noodles, great freshly made dip and crisp herbs. So good, my son who hasn't finished a meal in a week ate two! He also hammered back a papaya juice which was aesthetically pleasing in a small carafe with a stylish striped straw. We shared the beef pho. The broth wasn't overly salty and had a wonderful umami taste from ox bone broth. The meal wasn't cheap but we definitely received quality for the price. The service was also polite, attentive, accommodating and thoughtful. Finally, excellent touches with their cutlery and ceramics. First class. Will return. read more

Thank you so much for the most Devine bowl of pho my senses have ever experienced. I literally had to close my eyes with every bite to focus in on the carefully collaborated mix of flavours. You truly are passionate about what you do. Thank you read more

Chicken wings are worth the drive to Nelson! Great service and the patio is very nice. Clean and bright decor.

Not just best 'new' restaurant in Nelson, but best restaurant in Nelson, period. It's so refreshing to see well dressed, polite, professional staff - the overly casual approach that some local restaurants display, often comes off as disinterest. I really like the menu, which offers a good range of dishes, ingredients, flavours and sizes - while staying true to its theme. Loved everything we ate and drank! Pork buns, Sablefish, and soon to be famous crunchy, sticky, chicken wings. We ate at the bar, bartender Alex serving us cocktails with just the right amount attention. Can't wait to go back! read more

They were out of curry which led to some adventures in ordering. I've had the curry historically which is the best option and what led me back. Today, the pho twenty was simple but not exciting. The banh mi and plant-based spring rolls were also solid 3s. Filling but with limited depth. Service was slow, although accommodating. read more

Visited on a Saturday afternoon with my wife and daughter. Food was excellent and service was pretty good. We had the pho-rench dip, pork belly steamed buns and hero bowl off the kids menu. The sauce for the kids bowl was pretty spicy for kids but everything else was on point. Lots of fresh crisp flavors and we loved our meals. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

Great food, awesome service, chill atmosphere. Our server made our twin daughters teeny tiny origami cranes, sweet gesture! Will be back!

I just did a count of all the places that serve food and drink in Nelson, population (allegedly) 10,800. I make it 77. Unbelievable. And still a new restaurant can come along and make a great impression. Professional and friendly staff, great choice on the menu and from the bar, reasonable prices and short wait time for food. Been here twice now, and it's filled a niche that I hadn't even realized existed. Recommended. read more
