Soup of the day - Cream of Mushroom.
    Francois D.

Read the other positive reviews on Yelp so decided to try it tonight. Soup of the day - cream of mushroom - was everything another reviewer said it would be - unique and delicious. Fries were great. But would probably pass on the roast lamb - a little dry. The roast vegetables were grilled to perfection. Servers were great - very attentive and friendly. Overall a decent dining experience. I recommend it.

My partner and I were on a road trip to Nelson and Ainsworth last week and went to the Main St Diner for a burger. Someone recommended the Main St Diner as the best burger in town. My partner and I shared cheeseburger deluxe and the lamb burger. Both were great! We liked that the beef burger was served medium. The patty was tender and flavourful. Funny how they wouldn't cut the burgers in half for us - but as the server mentioned we had steak knives which did the trick.

The atmosphere in the room was nice, although slightly loud. I started by ordering a bottle of wine, which was great. The menu had four choices for the starter, I choice the shrimp cocktail with bang-bang sauce. It was tasty. The next course was a shared charcuterie board. It was fun to share the food. At some point a server came to either drop something off or pick something up, but without asking started to empty the wine into our glasses. This is bad etiquette for a server to touch anything on the table without asking. The third course was the main, I opted to upgrade the steak to a filet and add peppercorn sauce. When the main came out I tried the steak and it was way to salty, and I like salt. So, decision time, do I say something and disrupt our whole experience or suck it up. I decided to suck it up for the sake of the evening. My partners food was mostly fine. She had the lamb shank. The veg for both meals was the same. Some oven roasted root veg plus some sqash and zucchini. The root veg was raw, so we did say something about that. The waitress was very helpful and brought out more veg ten mins after we were finished the main. The same problem persisted, though, uncooked root veg. We shared a tarmisu for dessert. The experience was disappointing because we held this restaurant in a high regard. There reputation will be downgraded, in my eyes, to cause me to think twice befor recommending Louie's Steakhouse for food.

Review Visit: July 14th, 2015…read more Yes, it's called a Drive Inn. No, you can't park your car inside nor rent a room for the evening. Nakusp, BC. Our target destination after what seemed like endless hours of driving. Rolling up at 2am, we quickly headed inside and crashed hard. As soon as we were all awake, we needed some food to help refuel after that wild drive. Doing what I do best, I convinced everyone to head in to town to see what it offered. We hopped back in to the van and hit the town. Seeing as my cousin's wife was from here, she suggested a few places. The Hut was the one that sounded promising to all of us. The van was ushered in to a parking spot and we piled out with our empty bellies. Pouring over the menu, all of our mouths watered at the tasty-sounding goodies offered. I was heavily in to chicken sandwiches around this time so that is what I grabbed. I'm not sure what everyone else ordered but I do know the price was pretty consistent with other places like this. Since it was 5 people ordering food, plus the other customers there, the wait was a bit longer than I expected, but these places tend to make their food whenever it's ordered, so that's not always a bad thing. Once the food came out, we quickly headed to a table with an umbrella as we were roasting in the summer sun. Everyone immediately dived in to their food without hesitation. I had slight trepidation as I was in unfamiliar territory with different cultural viewpoints in how to make food and what toppings to put on it. As I sunk my teeth into that first bite, I knew there was nothing else to worry about. That chicken sandwich was full of big flavor. It may look unassuming in the photo below but I loved that thing and wanted another after finishing it. The menu for The Hut was rather large for the size of the town. The food options were a combination of what you can get at an Ice Cream Shack and a place like diner. Burgers, fish and chips, wraps, ice cream, shakes, breakfast, poutine, etc. There is surely something here that would interest most people. As for the building itself, it is in the shape of a triangle and looks to be a house as well? Or maybe previously a house? The peculiar design definitely catches your eye while driving down the road. Luckily after visiting it this one time, we hit up the Hut a few more times for food during our stay in Nakusp. While we did try other places, as you will see in coming blogs posts, none compared to my instant love for the chicken sandwich at The Hut. Years later, I still want another one.

I'm a fry connoisseur and these fell far from good so I ended up throwing them out! Yes they were homemade but over cooked, small and not memorable. The burger tasted like frozen patty and fish too, gravy was nothing special either. For $30 would rather have bought something worth the price. Service was alright but they seriously need to rethink the approach to make better quality food. I realize it's a small town with limited options but this was BAD!

Haven't tried the entire menu but impressed by full flavor, presentation and high aim. Only disappointment was 22 oz. I've never experienced that at a restaurant. We were told they could get us paper plates and tin foil instead. We asked for a bunch of plates and foil because you have to use so much more to package everything than to-go boxes. It seems like that might have been to save money but that seems incredibly stingy considering the prices of menu items were about 3x that of anywhere within 50 miles. That was slightly disappointing but bearable. What really got me was when the waiter that was helping us went and openly mocked my wife to the kitchen staff when she asked for a bag to carry all of our to-go plates. I've never experienced such a rude act at a restaurant by the staff and couldn't believe that's the way they conduct themselves as a business. Based on previous reviews and responses from the business it sounds like that a lack of hospitality is a trend here.

It is owned by The Twelve Tribes, a small religious community based about twenty minutes outside of town at Mt Sentinel Farms. Much of the wonderful comfort food they serve is grown on their farm, and the staff are all part of the Mt Sentinel community-the men wear pony tails and beards, the women dress in long skirts, and the place has a quiet, homey vibe. The community's vision was to open a small café offering a simple menu in a comfortable living-room-style setting, but the place is so good that they recently opened an adjacent house to hold all the people who were lining up for a wholesome, delicious meal. They keep odd hours, so I'd recommend checking their schedule before setting your heart on a visit. My favourite thing to get here is the BBQ Tofu Salad Wrap, which is made with smoky tofu, sweet creamy barbecue sauce, and crisp veggies wrapped on a soft whole wheat tortilla. The description doesn't do this addictive sandwich justice. The veggies are incredibly fresh, the sauce is unbearably delicious, and I can't even begin to describe how ridiculously good the smoky tofu is. I have the opportunity to eat this tasty wrap just one time every year or two, but the flavour is permanently imprinted on my tongue.
