This small restaurant is doing take-out and delivery only even though most other restaurants in the…read morearea are open for indoor dining (September 1, 2021). The order taking was quick and easy. Not all dishes on the menu are available. The dishes were generous portions but were missing the subtle flavours of "true" Asian cooking. I suspect this is due to a lack of supply of many Chinese ingredients. The result is very bland tastes. With local vegetables instead of traditional Asian ones, some dishes are unrecognisable. The "Prawns" were just medium frozen shrimp. If you are sensitive to MSG I recommend you ask them to not use it for you. In summary, this is not "Chinese" cuisine. It is Chinese influenced food. Enjoy the large portions and friendly service. Save your expectations for exotic Chinese meals in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto. You will not meet them here.

The spring rolls were flavourful and you could tell they were made fresh in house. That said, the service was a bit slow there was no dinner rush with only three other tables with customers and eventually we were the only patrons in the restaurant and we were still waiting for our food. The Pad Thai dishes looked appealing but turned out to be too salty. The Ginger beef dish had the meat overcooked and the veggies almost raw. Nothing to write home about for the decor. Full bar available. They mention lunch and dinner buffets on the website but we saw no sign of that during our visit. For a rather small spot, the menu is wide ranging with many unique offerings among the proteins. Also many noodle and vegetarian options. Even some dim sum dishes. We are partial to a good dumpling and while I wouldn't call them mind blowing, the pork dumplings were a perfectly adequate starter. Made in house possibly as they offer frozen bags of them to take home. I personally am a big fan of egg foo young and they had numerous choices here. We went with the House Special which included seafood, pork , and lots of vegetables. Huge portion perfectly seasoned with a delicious sauce. Some for tomorrow. The other dish we chose was the Beef with Two Mushrooms which was the star of the show. Beef was cooked to perfect tenderness with an excellent sauce. May be more than two types of mushrooms and if you like them, do try this if you visit. Again, leftovers here too. The service was very personable and attentive. If chinese sounds good during your time here, definite winner. Recommended.

At the moment they are putting a new sidewalk out front of the restaurant so it's not presenting itself as it typically would. The awning also had taken a beating, and should be replaced. Once inside we were warmly greeted by the two young ladies working. We were seated quickly offered water and a beverage of our choice as soon as we sat. Menus were dropped along with the waiters. A taster of the wine was requested and happily supplied. The inside is clean, and although spartanly appointed, it's bright and airy and a good size for a smaller town. We ordered lemon chicken, beef with mixed vegetables and chicken chow mein. Far too much food for the two of us, but you have to have some variety don't you. The food came out quickly, piping hot and very generous in the portion side. Having worked in a Chinese place for a couple of years as a teenager I've eaten my fair share of the cuisine and this food was pretty darn good, and very good for a small town, which may have been mentioned in an earlier review. Don't listen to the one star, give it a go, you'll be glad you did. With so few choices in Grand Forks , the good places need to be supported, the restaurant biz is pretty tough these days. We'll certainly return!

This past Canada Day weekend, my visiting family and I went off in search of nostalgia and old…read morefriends to BC. In this search, it entailed a stop to Castlegar, home of the impressively multi-award winning Chopsticks japanese and chinese restaurant. In fact, you can't possibly miss that fact, as award upon award certificates for the last 5 years are proudly displayed at the front entry. With that in mind, it was time to try the food. Now, the resto itself in terms of appearance and decor is probably a little schizophrenic. Think modern Canadian meets chinese meets sushi bar, and you might probably come close to the actual look. A huge wooden dancing fish awaited the entering clientele (I scared a small kid by telling him that the fish was alive and was so big because he ate kids) while the attractive young waitresses in traditional chinese chungsams (I have no idea what's the actual english word for those dresses are) would then meet, greet and promptly seat. Four in all at that moment, they were attentive, pleasant, and quick on the ball, a good sign for any resto as good service is always a plus. Now, I can't vouch for the Japanese sushi personally as I didn't get a chance to try them out, but I can say that the chinese part was bang on and authentic as you can find in any major city chinatown, which for a town like Castlegar in the middle of the Kootenay Rockies region was fairly impressive. The first dish wasn't really my own cup of tea, a soup with chinese herbs, pork bones and tongue, was unusually unexpected to find in Castlegar. Heck, it'll be unusual to find anywhere outside of HK, Vancouver or Toronto. It was ok to me, but my gal noted that it had quite a delicate flavour, and the use of tongue as opposed to say stewed pork cubes or sirloin. In fact, she especially notes that it was very tender and flavourful. The next dish, a simple cold chopped slow poached chicken, served with an onion, ginger and oil sauce is considered to be a classic of Chinese cuisine. It's deceptively simple, as it's actually not that easy to get the chicken quite right. Poached too long, and the meat becomes an unusual mix of rubber pieces. Poached too short, and it becomes a simple raw chunk of meat. So the fact that it was done quite right and tender is definately a sign of an accomplished cook. The ginger onion sauce was also nicely seasoned right, just the right level of salt to match the chicken. A plate of stir-fried Veggies with Shrimp and Scallops then followed. Again, nice, simple yet delicious with rice. What then followed was a bit of a surprise, a large omelet plate. Both were well done, and were a simple addition to complete the meal to satisfaction. So in the end, a good authentic chinese dinner with great service outside of a major city. Go figure. But from what I had the opportunity to enjoy, the awards are well earned.
