Chopsticks provided very good service when I went out to eat with my elderly parents, who are 80+. We were served quickly. I have to say the restaurant was warm, the server was friendly and courteous, and there were regular check-ins. The food was cold and our bubble tea came after we finished all our food. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant.

I would give zero stars if I could. I have been going to this restaurant for years but the last year I have had two of the worst dining experiences in my life. One visit entailed ZERO heat in the restaurant in the winter months and no warning for guests prior to eating. When I inquired about it the server mumbled something about the boss not caring enough? The most recent visit was from the twilight zone. We asked twice for water, never got out Pina Colada and was told he would get it after we had ate. 3 bubble teas arrived in 20 minute increments. So the third one arrived 1 hour after ordering??? Our server told me that's the way it is, they only have one blender. Our Chinese food was returned because it was cold. It came back 20 minutes later... microwaved. I was told again that's the way it is and have I ever even eaten there before? Our server continued to tell us that the owners don't care and they are "scrimping" on everything and he does everything on his own. Maybe that's true but very unprofessional and uncomfortable to be told that. He asked us if we wanted the bill after Chinese food and we hadn't even gotten our sushi, which we had to ask for like everything. I have never had service that bad in my life!!!! Chinese food was embarrassingly bad, sushi is not was it used to be. I miss the old chopsticks with great servers and food! One star is still way to high. Last tome I ordered sushi I was told 40 minutes. When I went to pick it up, after 45 minutes, was told another 15. Went back in at 15 and told another 10 minutes, as I believe they forgot half my order. The last and final time was tonight, ordered again. Told 25-30 minutes for my order. Even called in early in hopes to get in and out. 45 minutes later told another 10 minutes, went in after 10 and told another 10 minutes. Took over 1 hr this time. Guys at work always want to order from this place for work functions, not a chance. I will drive 10 minutes up the road for better food and service. read more

I grew up in Castlegar, so have been to chopsticks about a million times. I make a point of stopping by when I end up back there- for the honey peach chicken, if nothing else. I've tried a fairly large portion of the menu over the years, and don't remember ever being disappointed. This was also the first place I had sushi at, and the kicked off a lifelong addiction, so that must say SOMETHING good. :) Being spoiled by Vancouver sushi prices now, I haven't been able to order anything Japanese from here since then, but it's definitely a solid menu. read more

Ok I have never said this in a review but this is one of the best restaurants I've been to. Ever time I go I always come out satisfied with what I eaten. I will put a five but a couple of times I found a peace of rise in my drink and had to get another one. But that is pretty much it. Once I wanted something new I found the best dish on the menu it's called the kung pow chicken it's so good. The sushi is fresh and really tasty. This past Canada Day weekend, my visiting family and I went off in search of nostalgia and old friends to BC. In this search, it entailed a stop to Castlegar, home of the impressively multi-award winning Chopsticks japanese and chinese restaurant. In fact, you can't possibly miss that fact, as award upon award certificates for the last 5 years are proudly displayed at the front entry. With that in mind, it was time to try the food. Now, the resto itself in terms of appearance and decor is probably a little schizophrenic. Think modern Canadian meets chinese meets sushi bar, and you might probably come close to the actual look. A huge wooden dancing fish awaited the entering clientele (I scared a small kid by telling him that the fish was alive and was so big because he ate kids) while the attractive young waitresses in traditional chinese chungsams (I have no idea what's the actual english word for those dresses are) would then meet, greet and promptly seat. Four in all at that moment, they were attentive, pleasant, and quick on the ball, a good sign for any resto as good service is always a plus. Now, I can't vouch for the Japanese sushi personally as I didn't get a chance to try them out, but I can say that the chinese part was bang on and authentic as you can find in any major city chinatown, which for a town like Castlegar in the middle of the Kootenay Rockies region was fairly impressive. The first dish wasn't really my own cup of tea, a soup with chinese herbs, pork bones and tongue, was unusually unexpected to find in Castlegar. Heck, it'll be unusual to find anywhere outside of HK, Vancouver or Toronto. It was ok to me, but my gal noted that it had quite a delicate flavour, and the use of tongue as opposed to say stewed pork cubes or sirloin. In fact, she especially notes that it was very tender and flavourful. The next dish, a simple cold chopped slow poached chicken, served with an onion, ginger and oil sauce is considered to be a classic of Chinese cuisine. It's deceptively simple, as it's actually not that easy to get the chicken quite right. Poached too long, and the meat becomes an unusual mix of rubber pieces. Poached too short, and it becomes a simple raw chunk of meat. So the fact that it was done quite right and tender is definately a sign of an accomplished cook. The ginger onion sauce was also nicely seasoned right, just the right level of salt to match the chicken. A plate of stir-fried Veggies with Shrimp and Scallops then followed. Again, nice, simple yet delicious with rice. What then followed was a bit of a surprise, a large omelet plate. Both were well done, and were a simple addition to complete the meal to satisfaction. So in the end, a good authentic chinese dinner with great service outside of a major city. Go figure. But from what I had the opportunity to enjoy, the awards are well earned. read more

Good sushi! Love the dynamite rolls. Sashimi is fairly expensive. The spicy Singapore noodles are another fave. Fairly extensive menu of various Japanese and Chinese dishes, as well as a big sushi menu. Been there dozens of times; can't remember a bad meal. Service is good. read more

Have been going once a month or so since it opened in 04. Had one so so meal but all others have been good to excellent. Given that we are 400 miles from salt water the fish is fresh, as are vegetables. I really enjoy the Chinese dishes and my wife really enjoys the negri rolls. Went with my wife before catching a movie. Place was pretty packed as usual and ended up sitting at the sushi bar. The decor and sushi bar is not anything to write home about. The food is good. We stick to the Japanese when we go. A bit pricey but definitely decent and eating sushi normally means you aren't going to leave feeling sick as you do when you overeat americanized chinese. very very upsetting. my wife, 4 year old daughter and I went to get some food from there and when my daughter was getting out of the car she bumped the door into the car that was parked next to us. we didn't notice that this had happened so when we were inside waiting for our food I saw the sushi chef taking pictures of our car and his car. I came outside and asked if there was a problem, he said that he saw my daughter hit his car with the door and he wants cash or he's going to call icbc and the cops.... I took a rag and rubbed the tiniest smudge off his car but he didn't think that was good enough so he demanded my wife exchange information with him but came off so agresive that someone called the cops. when they arrived they laughed at the incident and said that they have another call to go to..... in the end he had no drivers license to provide only bc I'd and his car had Alberta plates. a woman who saw all this happening came up and said that he did the same thing to her when she was taking her 3 grand kids there for dinner . he wanted cash! please avoid that place . the food was gross and sushi was WAY OVER priced. 10$ for a California roll???! wow. anyway I will see what he will do with the 1/2cm ×1/2cm skuff on his white Nissan suv read more

Basic, average Canadianize Chinese food that you can find in any small town. Staff is young and efficient although not very friendly. The quality of the sushi is good, perhaps the best food in the restaurant but it is expensive. If you aren't expecting too much you won't be disappointed. Would have given them 2 1/2 instead of 3 if I could. read more
