Very good food and pretty cheap. Lunch specials are amazing. Service can be hit and miss. Overall I enjoy dining here.

All the Mexican joints are the same out here (kind of not good compared to what I am used to out West), but I have found an item on the menu that is just like they make em in Me He Co....try the 'tacos de asada'....just corn tortillas and good ole grilled steak. They come with a side of cilantro, onions, and some refried beans. They also make some super awesome margaritas. The waiters are very cool, too. Good customer service is rare in this town. Yucatan is a great place for lunch, I've never been for dinner. I typically get the taco salad, which is really good. All the food is affordable, and the staff is always friendly even if they are super busy, which is the usual during lunch hours. I have been coming to this restaurant occasionally for the last 6 or 7 years. The servers have always been very accommodating. This is evident because I always order a shrimp salad, which is not on the menu. They make the chicken salad substituted with shrimp. It is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. I don't know what seasoning they use on the shrimp but it's better than most seafood restaurants I've been to. Went there the past weekend with my wife. Ordered a burrito with chile relleno and my wife had a chimichanga. The rice and beans were delicious! Also, they serve chips and salsa prior to your meal. The salsa wasn't too hot or too mild. The meal was cheap and tasted terrific. I will be back. read more

We used to eat here once to twice a week. Recently we ordered the same thing as normal which is the chicken flautas, no salad with rice. We ordered a cheese dip as well. My wife went to pick it up and came home to find we had paid $16 for 4 flautas, a cheese dip and a bag of free chips. We called and told the guy on the other end of the phone (who happened to be the manager) what happened and his response was he didn't take the order. He then said it doesn't come with rice. I told him we had ordered the same thing for almost a year and when we didn't get a salad we were offered beans or rice with no charge and he said that was correct. He then tried to show me a menu. Really? So they offer it but don't give it to you when you get it to go. He never apologized for the mixup or for the mistake. I told him to refund the money. He looked confused and said I have refunded your money. He never even offered a solution. If it's not actually offered, why do so? Customer service here is poor to say the least. Good luck if you choose this place when there are plenty of other places just as good. Food is manageable but not the best. It's close to our house and why we used to eat there often. I've heard this has been done to others so make sure you check your takeout before leaving. read more

I've been around the country and if there's one thing I've learned about Mexican food in the USA, if there isn't a significant Mexican influence in the area, the food is OK at best. I attribute it to the lack of supplies in the area and the fact that "real" Mexican food may offend the taste buds of locals. If this place was in Texas, California or Chicago (my hometown), I'd give it a 2. However, considering that this place is in Sumter, a place were there is no Supermercado or tortilla store, a place where there is not a significant Mexican influence, I think they do very well with what they're working with. The staff is very friendly and service is great. Chips are as good as they get and the salsa (complimentary) is good. Food is flavorful. It's a great place to go for lunch as the service and food is very quick. I'll see big parties walk in and they don't even break a sweat. Despite not completely satisfying my Mexican food snob taste buds, it is still in my regular rotations of dine-in restaurants in Sumter. read more

one of the better mexican spots in town. they have huge beers for $2 and this meal called mojocajte (spelled something like that) it is a huge stone bowl of steak, chicken, shrimp, chrozo, and onions. i still cant eat the whole thing. and it is all meat. cant beat the price for it either. san joses is now called yucatan. i havent eaten there since it has changed names. great place for groups and people who like to watch sports. they have big screen tvs and a large bar. read more

My son-in-law wanted Mexican for his birthday lunch so my husband and I arrived at 12:05 to request a table for 10. We were told 25 minutes. 10 minutes later 6 more of our group arrived. After 20 minutes I checked to see when our table would be available. They told me in another 25 minutes. After 40 minutes of waiting for a table, and realizing the "one table" we were waiting for to finish,(so they could seat us,) had just been served their food, we left. read more

I'm from California, so I'm used to good Mexican food (TexMex or otherwise). This was not it. I ordered a combination plate that included chile relleno. To me, this means a stuffed pepper that is breaded and fried. What I got was queso, ground beef, and one tiny piece of pepper. Everything else was covered in queso and it was nauseating. I love Mexican food and finally convinced my wife and kids to try this place last week. Huge mistake. One of the worst and overpriced meals we've had anywhere in Sumter, and that's saying a lot. My wife got the Mexican steak; the meat was cooked correctly but was such low quality I couldn't believe what they were charging for it (13 or 14 bucks I think?). The best part of the dish was the pan fried shrimp that comes with it which were excellent. I ordered the "Three Amigos" which was a combination of steak, chicken and shrimp. The steak was mostly grizzle, fat and sinew, the chicken was overcooked and too dry to eat and the shrimp...I can't even describe how bad the shrimp were. They didn't even taste like real shrimp, they were bloated and watery and just plain gross. And just when you think it couldn't get worse, they smother everything in some kind of disgusting white gravy sauce. The best tasting part of this dish was the guacamole salad and when you're charging 13-14 bucks for a dish, the best tasting thing should not be a pile of shredded iceberg lettuce with guacamole on top. One kid was not feeling adventurous so he just got the hamburger and fries from the kids menu and even that was so disgusting he literally ate one bite of his hamburger and refused to eat the rest. The other kid got the chicken tenders from the kids menu and he ate them all so at least one of us got their money's worth. As I said earlier probably the worst meal we've had in the year and a half that we've been here. Everything tasted more like plain old disgusting southern food than Mexican food. Tremendously disappointing. We will not be back. read more
