We ate here while visiting family in Sumpter, SC. Our server was very nice and was attentive. The ambiance was cool and clean with the normal decor of a Mexican restaurant. Everything was delicious especially the awesome Taco Salad & the Queso Dip. I have never had so much meat in a Taco Salad so it was different and delicious. read more

This is our go to Mexican or TexMex restaurant in town. My menu selection is anything Locos. Nachos or Burrito both are perfect. While the latter could use more bean soup with beans, it's pretty good nonetheless less. Highly recommend! read more

The service was quick and good. The food was plentiful but a little on the average side. The nachos came with a very good queso sauce, but a melted shredded cheese would have been preferred by me. The salsa was very mild, and I tend to prefer a spicier salsa. I was excited by the name, Tacos and Tequila. They had a wide selection of tequila at reasonable prices. While the selection was large, there really wasn't anything unusual. The biggest let down for me was the fact that they only had four options for tacos. Overall, there is a large selection of menu items that nearly anyone can find something to eat. The food was solid and good sized portions. While my dish (Nachos Locos) did not resonate with me, I will come back and try something else. The vibe was fun. Good ambiance and easy to see. Not too loud either. read more

Who doesn't love tacos!?!? This place is absolutely beautiful inside, parking is not bad as it sits at the end of Main Street. The waitress was very nice. I wanted to try as much as possible since I was dining alone and so I got the organic margarita, sampler platter, and the three street taco plate with three different street tacos (chicken, steak, and el pastor). Margarita was good, not too sweet. I wanted to have a mango mojito but they didn't have mint. The sampler platter was ok. It was definitely a lot of food, but if you are sharing it with a group larger than two, it's hard to due to only having 2 of everything. The wings were DRY, and the chicken strips were ok, but not even in comparison to the jalapeño poppers, chicken quesadillas, or the flautas. They were good and they should have served more of those items to make the platter more shareable, and more of the items that tasted better. The tacos. . . The chicken and pork meat were well seasoned, steak was bland. I also was not expecting flour tortillas. That alone made it worse. They brought me my sampler platter and tacos out at the same time so by the time I started eating the tacos the shells were chewy. The rice was decent, but I was really upset about the beans. Out of the whole cup on my plate there was three spoons worth of beans (about 12 beans!). The flavor was good, just didn't know why there was nothing but liquid. My meal was $52!!! Which if it was a five star meal it would have been fine, but it definitely wasn't. read more

El Paso is certainly a diamond in the rough in Sumter. The ambience is bright and cheerful (though some children may find the murals celebrating Dia de los Muertos a bit scary). The restaurant is located on Main Street at the end of block next to a boarded up business. Let me start by saying Mexican cuisine is not one of my favorites. I can only think of maybe two Mexican restaurants that stand out in my experience. This review is very focused on only two of the dishes that we had. I'm sure their meat dishes will get a higher rating from me. We were seated and immediately given some tortilla chips, salsa and black bean sauce. I also ordered a small dish of guacamole. I'm a big fan of guacamole, but it seemed a bit too salty for me. I like the beans. I was hungry, so I overdid it on the chips. Since we weren't eating meat that day, I ordered a shrimp taco salad and my wife ordered fish tacos. The salad was inside of a taco shell, and consisted of some lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and about six butterflied shrimp that we're probably cooked on the flat grill. The salad was small and Mexican ranch dressing was served on the side. The dressing was tasty, but the shrimp was bland and without any kick or flavor. I had a tough time finishing it. I tasted my wife's fish tacos and they were so so. These fish tacos lacked acid. It might be a good idea to add some pickled slaw to your fish tacos? That would elevate the tacos with some good crunch, balance and flavor. I would rate the service a four, the ambience a five and our meal a three. We would try the restaurant again on a day that we're eating meat. read more

Well. I like to support new and local businesses, but certain experiences make it hard. With rising prices I will say I question if I want to go back to give a place another shot from initial impressions. Of course if you are reading this then you know this is a good review in the essence that it is the truth of my one and only experience here. I have been told that I can be unfair when I compare sushi places to the sushi I had in Japan or Mexican or TexMex to what I have had living in Texas and Southern Cal. Still you can do a food comparison but customer service is not location specific. While staying in the local area I noticed there was a new Mexican place and decided to give it a shot since so many places in this area are closed on Sunday. I went there and sat at the bar. No hello or acknowledgement but after a few minutes I was brought some chips and dip. I decided at this point that I was going to get a to go order to take it back to the hotel to watch the playoff game. While there I decide to go with a mojito. It started off good as I saw that they were actually muddling mint leaves. Many times you just see a mix being used. I got the drink and this had to be the worst mojito I have ever had. The amount of club soda used in it overpowered all the other flavors. No taste of lime, mint, or rum could be detected. Basically, if you were given a club soda then this is the flavor you got and the only flavor you got. I decided to go with fajitas as a safe bet after asking about items on the menu. I asked if they had tripa or lengua tacos and the hostess said no. With it being Sunday there could have been a possibility of having menudo since I am use to many places serving it only on the weekends. The horchata was on its last bit of foam and that is when the hostess said they are not a true authentic Mexican place. The food came out very quick and I went with the Texana Fajitas which was shrimp, steak, and chicken. Now let me back it up. I was asked if I wanted flour or corn tortillas and of course I went with flour for fajitas. I semi-finished my drink and gave up on that and grabbed my food to head back to the hotel room. I got back to the room and with this being fajitas take a guess what was missing? Refer back to the question I was asked. No tortillas. Fajitas with no tortillas? Ay dios mios! I am back in the room and the game was about to start so I was not going back to the place for tortillas. So I used the chips to make a sort of nacho plate and overall the food was flavorless. The beef was chewy and basically was like chewing on gristle. The three shrimps included in my meal were pretty good and the chicken was just bland. Very disappointed in the food, service, and ultimately my choice to give this place a try. One star from me and perhaps I caught them on the wrong day. It is also a possibility that many of the people who go here have never experienced eating Mexican food out of the local area. Not a knock but its like being in another country and you see a place that says true southern soul food. You going to second guess going there, but the food here there is no second guessing about. The food was just not good here. read more

This is a pretty nice Mexican restaurant in a small town without a ton of restaurant options. We found it on Yelp, of course. Parking was easy enough -- plenty of free street parking. Service was good. Prices were very reasonable. The Mexican food was a little bit plain, but we all enjoyed our meal. I wouldn't hesitate to to go back! read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. Worst Mexican food I've ever had. Salsa was so bland. I got two hard beef tacos. The ground beef had potatoes and carrots in it. Like, why? The shells were old and had a chemical taste to them. We tried to order their special margaritas one had blueberries and the other had kiwi's and they were out of both at 2:30pm on a Saturday. A friends Coke Zero was awful like all the sodas in the dispenser mixed together. All over 0/10. Service was okay. Also the restaurant had a strong unpleasant smell when we first walked in. Won't ever return. read more

I came here a couple days ago and ordered the veggie fajitas and they were the best i've had. The chips seemed fresh and The food was nice and seasoned while the drinks did not disappoint. Buddy and I stopped by last night for a taco. We sat at the bar and were waited on by the nicest bartender. She was attentive, kept our drinks full and joked with us as we ate. We ended up ordering a table-side guaq thanks to her recommendation and loved it - my new favorite on the menu. The food came quickly and was hot and delicious. Spent about twice what we intended but loved it. The highlight of the experience was the bartender though. Super great service. Will be back soon and will order the table side guaq! Thanks for hiring such great staff. read more

It began with the seating, we walked in 3 adults and 1 child age 2. We were seated and not given a high chair for the child. We asked the server for a high chair when she came over. Ordered a flavored drink which had a mediciny flavor not a strawberry flavor. I told the server the drink did not have the Frozen Strawberry Margarita flavor. She stated that they put like 7 liquors in it. My daughter said that is a Long Island Ice Tea. Needless to say Indid not drink the Long Island Margarita. Next came ordering the food. I have been to many Mexican restaurants and have tried many of their dishes. I ordered a Carnita dish. My daughter order chicken wings as an appetizer. The chicken wings were flavorless and fried hard. She did request well done but what came out was burnt unseasoned chicken wings. When the carnita was brung to me, it appeared very dry. I was taken aback because I have never had a dry Carnita. I taste it and immediately can tell the pork is not fresh, meaning not cooked that day or the day before. I did not taste anything else on the plate. I expressed my dismay to the server who called her manager. I explained everything to the manager. She did offer something else, to which I refused. I had been to this restaurant maybe 2 years previous and the experience was not as bad but not good. The Carnita was taken off the bill but by the Long Island Margarita was not. There were not many customers dining but about 5 at the bar who may have had something to eat and drink at the bar. Bottom line is I will not be giving this restaurant another try. Paid the $97 bill and left a $20 tip . Yucatán will continue to be the spot for me. read more

El Paso Tacos & Tequila - Flautas Mexicanas and it comes with either ground beef or shredded chicken in corn shells. - Mexican Near Me - Sumter, South Carolina

This place is an absolute ripoff and the food has little to no love. Let me run you through some items here. -$16 steak burrito that is probably about 5-6 ounces of sad and flavorless steak max (didn't even taste like it was salted, forget about spices or marinades or charcoal flavor) inside a tortilla. No rice, no beans. Instead it comes with a little lettuce, a tbsp of sour cream, a measly scoop of pico, and an even smaller scoop of some guac that has turned brown. Only redeeming quality on this burrito is the verde sauce it's smothered in which is quite flavorful. Unfortunately, you'd have to do a lot better than that if you're charging even more than I've seen in places like LA and San Diego. This place could maybe get 3 stars if they would at least give you rice and beans. -The chimichanga plate comes with some rice and beans but once again, all the portions are measly. You can eat the whole plate in about 3 mins even if you eat like a bird. The worst offender on the plate is the grilled chicken chimichanga. Once again, the filling has zero seasoning or flavor. It pretty much just tasted like boiled chicken inside a fried tortilla. Smothered in queso, it's a bit better but can't kick this place up another star. In conclusion, I'll briefly say that you might fare better with some of their combo plates but don't come here looking for a generous southern portion or anything less than California prices. Unfortunate! read more

Read all of the reviews available to date and decided to give it a try. We went for lunch and ordered from the Lunch Menu: Chicken Taco Salad and Cheese Enchilada. The service, Kendall, was superb and cheerful and the meal was really well prepared. I usually order a Taco Salad whenever out of lunch at a Mexican restaurant but this one was contrary to my previous encounters. Usually, the salad is lettuce with some vegetable with chicken almost as an afterthought. Today, it was a plentiful serving of chicken, tender and favorable over fresh vegetables. We each had a small margarita (small was enough) which was well prepared and definitely a surprise price wise. Will return. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. By far the worst Mexican in Sumter. The one star is for Isabella because she was sweet and btw who ever she was asking questions from was a total jerk! The rice was dry, the quesadilla is Colby Jack cheese thrown in a tortilla with zero flavor, oh and don't forget the literal smallest bowl of queso you can get is going to cost an arm and a leg. $50 later that I did not want to give to this business. We will not be back. Oh by the way management, when customers are being seated and can see people who handle the food on their phones above the food... that's GROSS. read more

The day I went to lunch with a friend, the server was disoriented, kept forgetting things and proceeded to take our dishes away as we will stilling nibbling on our food, we told her we were not finished eating and she said, I am sorry, I am required to clear plates that look like you are finished. Ordered the carnitas street tacos. I love corn tortillas, but these were dry and tasted strange to me. They made the entire taco feel/taste dry. I ordered a side of sour cream which helped. The carnitas wasn't overly dry (not overly juicy either) but the tortilla didn't help make anything more juicy. FOOD: 3.7 I love their drink selection, and feel the prices aren't too high. The mango habanero is spicy! But my favorite drink is the strawberry mojito. DRINKS: 4.4 read more

Family did not enjoy the food, and we ordered tacos, various enchiladas, and a steak chimichanga. Food was delivered fast after ordering, but it was bland and not hot. The first salsa jar we got was a mess and had a hair on the rim. Salsa tasted like the kind you buy from the store, but with a dash of liquid smoke - not good. Bean dip was good, though. My chimichanga did not appear to be deep fried, and the steak did not taste fresh. All the next day I suffered from diarrhea. Would not recommend, as this was fairly expensive given the sub-par quality. read more

I had an okay experience would have been an excellent first experience if the manager "I believe her name was Krissy or Krystal" wasnt so argumentative and smug faced about fixing a mistake on my order that was at no fault of anyone but her since she placed the order herself. As a higher up in the establishment she should set a better example for an opening busines. it was also very busy and other than her attitude the meal came quick and we were pleased as we could with the food we were stuck with. Our family will stick to our usuals from now on. Maybe we will return after the opening wears off. read more

I have been here twice now. The first time, the waitress was kind of rude and perturbed that we had 6 people in our party. The second time, our waitress was nice but absent minded. My friend received the wrong order. I will say their frozen margaritas are pretty amazing though. Very heavy on the alcohol. I ordered the taco salad with steak both times and each time, it was lackluster. Honestly, I can make a better one home by myself. It literally comes with very low quality steak, lettuce, tomatoes and shredded mozzarella. They fill the bowl about 1/2 way. It's lacking in flavor. Other restaurants I have been to will put sautéed peppers and onions, guacamole, cheese sauce, bean dip, etc Totally not worth the price. read more
