I was craving a bean and cheese burrito and my husband went to buy one here. When he brought it home I was happy to finally have a bean and cheese burrito! When I took the first bite I realized that the beans were very bland and tasted a bit weird! The flour tortilla was good and so was the cheddar cheese but the beans I didn't like them. My husband bought 2 other burritos a shredded meat burrito and a red beef burrito. The shredded meat burrito was good, just the right amount of seasoning but the red beef burrito was too salty for us. The price of the burritos were $18 bucks each, pretty pricey for burritos. My husband said he's not going back to this place and I totally agree! His experience with the staff was not nice either. So I decided to give this place a low score for their unfriendly attitude, bland refried and salty red beef and for being pricey! Very unimpressed. We went yesterday for lunch - son and I. It was Taco Tuesday, and my son ordered two tacos: carnitas and chicken. He said the carnitas was very dry, and the chicken was flavorless - like not even salt had been used in cooking it. I will say that the tacos were BIG, but my son (a bit of a connossieur) was not at all impressed. He gave them his second lowest grade ever. I ordered the Chile Relleno, and there was some confusion as to whether it was ala carte or the meal. Apparently, they charge 10 bucks per chile ALA CARTE which is REALLY expensive in my opinion, particularly given how mediocre it was. The batter was not at all fresh, and they were very soggy. C- / D+ in my opinion. With tip it came to forty bucks to eat, drinking tap water. I won't be back. read more

It has been sometime since I last posted review of Yucatan Grill. That ends today! My wife and I visited Yucatan Grill yesterday. We arrived about 11:30am. We had a choice of tables. 20 minutes later the restaurant was pretty full. My wife and I each ordered a Margarita. They were good, but not quite how we like them. Now for the good stuff. My wife ordered two shrimp tacos with flour tortillas. I had the Jerk chicken with beans and rice. My wife's shrimp tacos were huge! The shrimp were firm and were very satisfying. She actually ate only one, bringing #2 home. My Jerk Chicken came with beans and rice. The jerk sauce had some real zip. I mean ZIP! It was delicious. My wife had a little taste of my Jerk Chicken, being careful to use a modest amount of jerk sauce. She loved it...hence the reason shrimp taco #2 was brought home. The service was very good and the atmosphere fitting for this beach area. It was a pleasant experience. If you're in the area, stop in for a delicious meal. read more

My boyfriend and I went on a bike ride down to Seal Beach and decided to stop here for lunch. Cute little spot, he recommended it so I was pretty excited since I do like a good Mexican food session! We were immediately greeted and seated. Fresh complimentary chips and salsa came to our table as we sat down. Salsa was delicious and chips were freshly made! I ordered two a la carte tacos, mahi fish taco done tropical style and an Al pastor taco. They come on two corn tortillas, pretty big for tacos. Both had really good flavors and the portion was appropriate for the price. My boyfriend ordered steak fajitas! They came out sizzling, the steak pieces were juicy and tender. I went with my mother to this establishment for evening rations. We waited while our booth was cleaned. I had to ask for a part of the table to be wiped dry. Tortilla chips were brought to our table. I ordered the shrimp and scallop scampi along with salad and tortillas. My mother ordered Chile Relleno Combo and Cheese Enchilada. We both had "Wooder" to drink. I thought that the food was good and tasty. Scallops were nice and tender. The salad was large enough that I took some home in a "to go" container to be eaten the next day. I had to wait to use the Men's washroom as it was designed to be single occupancy. The men's washroom was clean and had paper towels available... good. I wish that the washroom was not single occupancy. I have a bone to pick with at least some of the guys who were working at this establishment as I don't consider them to be properly dressed. The reason was that I saw employees wearing their shirts untucked. I consider guys who wear their shirts, even t shirts, untucked to be improperly dressed. This is something that I am OCD about. Due to the untucked shirts, I am dinging this establishment one point. When I got the bill, I saw a 3.5 percent"Plastic Fee." I did not make an issue about it with the waitress, but I didn't see any prior notice about any "plastic fee." If there was any sign about it in the restaurant or notice about it on the menu, I missed it. However, I later saw something about a 3.5 percent credit card fee in the "frequently asked questions" section of the website of this establishment. I guess the plastic and credit card fee is the same. Anyway, this fee left a bad taste in me as it was not PROMINENTLY disclosed beforehand, so I am dinging this establishment one point for the fee. I did see a sign that Pat McCormick was here. Pat McCormick was a famous Olympic Swimmer and she taught me how to swim way back in 1972. If I was to assign a letter grade as is done in school, this establishment would be in there solid with a C. read more

Hi Everyone! Back in Long Beach this weekend. My friend to me to a "great little local place" for Mexican food. She took me to Yucatan Grill. It's is definitely a locals place tucked away in the corner of a strip mall. It is older but very clean inside with plenty of available parking. Upon seating, we were immediately approached with a basket of chips and Salsa. The chips were excellent. The salsa ok. I was pleased they also had brewed mango ice tea. A nice surprise! The service was excellent and the waitress took the time to explain the food choices and gave us plenty of time to order. The food arrived and there was plenty of it! I had the Chili Rellano and a crispy chicken taco. I also chose the Yucatan (yellow rice) and the no lard pinto beans. (see photo attached). My food was very good. The Chili Rellano was big and full of cheese and the taco equally as tasty. I'm not a rice guy, (per se) but enjoyed the Yucatan rice. The beans were decent. Overall my experience here was excellent! You are probably wondering then, why only four stars? Well, sadly, I was very disappointed to find, when the bill came, a 3.5% "plastic" service charge! I HATE hidden charges attached to the bill without notice! I asked the waitress about it and she said it was for using a credit card. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Tasty Mexican fare with a Caribbean twist. We came here to support the Seal Beach Animal Care Center--they were doing one of those nights when 20% of your bill goes to a benefitting organization so we decided to give it a go. It was already quite crowded by the time we got there around 6pm, but luckily we didn't have to wait too long for a table. We ordered the following: - Yucatán pepita dip (made with toasted pumpkin seeds-yum) - Yucatán fish pot (seafood stew with scallops, mahi-mahi and shrimp simmered with okra, tomatoes, thyme and other spices and hot chilies) - Cheese enchilada with beans and rice Everything was delicious and the service was efficient and prompt, despite the busyness. Extra thanks to our server who graciously took back a dish that we'd ordered without realizing it had meat in it (panuchos). I was in the mood for something Mexican, I live nearby and didn't want to go far. I choose this place as it is down the street from me. I chose the stake plate. The plate comes with this giant piece of meat with a side of rice and beans. The meat wasn't and but it wasn't anything special to write about. I have had better carne asada at other small Mexican restaurants. This restaurant also claims to do other types of food that aren't Mexican like Caribbean. I didn't see anything on the menu that appealed to me that wasn't Mexican. The restaurant was busy for a Thursday afternoon. I ate my plate and left with no plans to return. I've had some wonderful + nostalgic experiences at Yucatan Grill. As a vegetarian, I greatly appreciate that they don't use lard in their rice and beans (as stated on the menu). Looks like this is a locals spot. The wait staff was very friendly, so no complaints there. The food was mediocre at best (Ahi taco was overcooked, chips are bland, little flavor to the salsa) and the margarita was bitter. Wow! Randomly found this place (through Yelp of course) and I was blown away. Came here for lunch and it was my first time. But I was immediately blown away by how many locals and regulars were in here (that's how you know it's good) The place is on the smaller side, but cute! We also ordered a burrito wet style and the waiter asked if we were sharing it. He was nice enough to split it for us and bring it out on separate plates for us. Which we never fuss about and just do it ourselves. I overheard the workers talking to everyone. The waiters knew some of these people's order by memory and all they said was give us the usual One even greeted a regular and asked how their daughter was doing and congratulated them on her wedding. Came here a few weeks ago with a few mom friends and our kids. Service was great and our food came out so fast! I have been craving their lobster enchiladas ever since that day! I also got a fish taco and did not expect it to be so huge, so I took that home for later. We also got a couple pitchers of their house margarita, that was also great. I did online pick up. I went back in the store as salsa was missing from the order. Guy insisted it was in my bag along with chips. It was not so I went back to my car in the rain to bring the two bags without chips or salsa to show him. He acted as if i lied. Yucatan never disappoints! Tonight we decided to have dinner here with family and friends. Our server was so nice! He made our daughter's birthday special. We got the girls virgin margaritas with a salted or sugar rim. The girls loved it. While ordering he asked if it was my daughter's birthday.The crown made it obvious, lol. But he surprised my daughter with a deep fried ice cream and got everyone to sing to her. I ordered the shrimp enchilada and an al pastor taco. The taco was a decent size! Both were so good. The quality of food isn't great and they no longer have a happy hour so their drinks are overpriced. I give 1 star the food I ordered was not good. The chips and salsa are bland it tastes like a can not true real authentic salsa . It wasn't finger licking good I make it better I use basic ingredients. I ordered chicken taquitos which I liked the display it was cute then I ate it and yuk . It tasted like the chicken was grinder and mushed together. Super soft no need to chew just swallow . The nachos were what I was left with so I did pick at it . Decided to try this place after a decade gap. Not much had changed. We opted for a light meal. Chula Vista Margarita - strong and decent size but not great flavor. Carne Asada Burrito - nice burrito and lots of meat, I enjoyed it, Hubby thought it lacked flavor Shredded Beef Taco - huge taco with lots of lettuce, loved it Chips and Salsa - just so so, need to improve the flavor of the salsa and freshness of the chips Tres Leches Cake - not good enough to order again, not really a tres leches to me, just a spongy cake Churros - much better choice for the dessert Overall, I found the place to be dated and in serious need of a deep clean. We ended up sitting outside but even with a fan above the air wasn't moving much. Every single menu brought to me was disgraceful. I have never experienced such filthy menus. The servers were very nice, but the lack of cleanliness will most likely keep me away for a very long time. Credit cards are charged 3.5% fee and that is listed on the menu so there was not surprise.
