The original Senor Big Ed was a small stand in Hawaiian Gardens , and my family used to have their food frequently decades ago. I wanted to try this space for the Puerto Rican cuisine mixed with Mexican. Food here still comes from the small kitchen. Friendly service. The yucca tamal had a very distinctive texture and taste, more sweet than I expected. The rice, plantain and beef combo was also good, meat tender and in a savory sauce. This Puerto Rican spot has my heart. Loving food of my culture is so hard to find in Socal. Walking in feels like you're in Puerto Rico with the vibrant colors and the murals on the walls. This place should be a shame of themselves saying that they sell Puerto Rican food as a Puerto Rican. I'm so embarrassed of this place. I took friends there and we were looking at each other like wtf . The rice was long grain. We don't really eat long grain in Puerto Rico the beans, two types, pink and black beans.black. Sorry, but we don't eat black beans Cubans eat black beans. The meats they stuff in some of their filling are salty. We use Sofrito for our meats for stuffing. We also put in a small piece of olives. What happened to the original owners now they even sell Mexican food, which is probably better than the Puerto Rican food they sold us. I will never recommend this place to anyone. I won't need tell people I ever went there. That's how embarrassing it is is not good. People don't bother with this place. It's a waste of your money. We don't eat like that in Puerto Rico.. so don't put our food underneath the ground. Maybe you could do that to the Mexican food but not the Puerto Rican food. read more

The food here is fantastic and there is so much variety in the types of dishes you can order and try out. They have everything from sweet to savory items and I get the feeling that they are all so good! I ordered the #9 which is a fried plaintain filled with ground beef and topped with cheese, and it comes with a side of rice and the option of plaintain or tostones (or you can do half and half). I was extremely satisfied with my meal and I felt like the price was more than reasonable for what you are getting, right down to the portion. It was perfect! Would definitely try it again but I really want to come back and try some of the other items on the menu. The waitress was super helpful and attentive, as she even gave us some pointers on what is popular, her personal favorites and what is recommended to try for the first time.
