Sandwich Cubano

Great food very nice people food and items you don't find just anywhere. I recommend this place to friends and family

My daughter bought 2 plates of ropa vieja, a Cuban sandwich and like 5 guava pastries. Which total came out to like $50 bucks. I started eating the sandwich but I smelled something weird. Then I got a piece of pork and it smelled putrid I spit out the piece I had in my mouth. I called Nuevo Mundo and explained to the lady about how the meat smelled bad and she was like bring the sandwich and we'll give you another one or your money back for the sandwich. I told her I didnt want another sandwich I was just letting her know so they're alert of how the meat smelled bad. She just said ok just bring the sandwich and hung up. Forgot to mention that we had thrown the sandwich away. The lady said take it out of the trash and bring it. My daughter went back and took half the sandwich the lady there had the audacity of refunding $ 4.50 I am really upset because for a 9 dollar sandwich they are risking making someone sick. So people please be careful when you're eating here. The other food was ok except that sandwich meat yuck! Never coming back here again.

Food is delicious. The cuban sandwich is the star of the show and the runner up is the roasted pig with yucca and the garlic sauce. Bomb.

Both were delicious, even so the next day when I ate my leftovers for breakfast. The mofongo rellenonwas full of savory flavor with wonderfully cooked chicken, and the papas rellenas had a nice crisp exterior. I had the pollo guisado when I did dine-in with my parents. The chicken was tender and juicy with the same incredible flavor. I forgot what my parents ordered, but I sampled some and I remember it was also good. Service was nice and quick, they explained some parts of the menu to me and my parents. The inside isn't super big but it is decorated very nice--my parents and I sat at a table underneath a flower wall. Definitely need to come back more times and try more of their menu!

We did, but might leave them home next time since its pretty small inside and i could see things getting wild if there had been other dogs in there too. Great way to check out the menu, everything was delicious. We will be back to try the whole menu!

I always make big orders, and share with family and friends. today I made a regular size order (5 arepas con queso y 10 empanadas) picked them up on my break. Get back to work and noticed none of the arepas had cheese. called and let them know. Didn't ask for anything. After thinking about it, asked if I could stop later, on my way home, to pick up the missing cheese. The lady said of course and that she'd be there. She offered a free order of arepas to fix their mistake. Once I arrived the lady recognized me right away and told me they would give me three arepas, I said that was fine. She told me it was going to be a while and couldn't tell me how long because there was a big order. Then she came out of the kitchen and said the owner had said Two arepas. I told her that was fine, but I was more concerned about the time it would take. I heard the owner saying from the kitchen that it would be fast. I said ok. I asked if I could have cheese for the other three arepas. The owner told (from the kitchen) no! That she'd was giving me two arepas already. I asked her to come out and speak to me that I had not asked for anything free and did not want to eat the initial arepas without cheese. She replied that she could not come out of the kitchen to speak to me because she was busy. I didn't say anything else and left without the cheese I had original requested or more arepas. Not sure where she thought she was doing me a favor. They made me the mistake and handled the whole situation as if they were accommodating me for something I had done! I will never go back or any of my friends or family.

WOW. I don't think I ever would've tried this place if it…read morewasn't for the SGV Passport! Our deal was Buy 1 or 2 Jamaican style meat patty, get 1 or 2 free! And I had to ask "What is a Jamaican Style Meat Patty"? and they told me it's like an empanada! But WOAH. It's much bigger than any empanada I've ever seen! The staff was super nice on the phone to me when they explained what it was and that we were able to turn the meat patty into a vegetarian friendly version - nice! They also had a vegetarian one! So we grabbed 2 and got 2 free then decided to also order their vegetarian curry because we thought the meat patties wouldn't be enough. But omg. It was more than enough! The meat patties were huge and thick! And so so so FLAVORFUL! When you come to their shop inside the food hall the shop looks unassuming, it's cluttered and doesn't really give me the excitement of wanting to order here but wow wow wow. Once we ate it we were like "we shouldn't have judged!" Once we dived into the curry we were just waaaay to full but the vegetarian curry was so good. Not as flavorful as the meat patty (should've had the curry first so our tastebuds wern't overwhelmed!" but still tasty nonetheless! It had so much chickpeas and the rice was pretty good! I think we're going to have to come back and try it again when we're in the area!

I was…read moreinitially unsure what to order, but the woman at the counter recommended the Oxtail & Jerk Combo ($23) with half portions, which was excellent! The Jerk chicken was cooked perfectly, though the spice level was mild, even after a warning. The oxtail was tender and good, but not the best I've had. While the rice and beans were a bit too wet, the plantains and cabbage were great. I would have preferred some hot sauce and fluffier rice, but overall it was a solid meal. A text notification system for when orders are ready would be a helpful addition, especially for those seated away from the counter. The staff member gave an estimated time, and my food was actually ready sooner, which I wasn't aware of. While not a major issue, this is an area that could be improved. The service was friendly and helpful, and I would definitely return to try more of their dishes. While the food overall was good, a few things fell short, like the rice. Overall, it's a tough call because the food deserves more than 4 stars. Caribbean Gourmet is easily the best Caribbean spot in the SGV and my second favorite in LA County. The prices are very fair for the portion sizes, and I must highlight how affordable they are, especially these days. Kudos to Caribbean Gourmet for keeping prices affordable while serving delicious food!
