I received a call from his office with a message that I had a balance which I was unaware of so he had his office call me and tell me to find a new GI for my needs wow!! I had met Dr. Yu for a consultation and I felt very comfortable with him and his staff immediately. On December 29, I had my colonoscopy in Irvine at Barranca Surgery Center. I was treated with care and compassion from the minute I walked thru the doors. I walked in at 8:30AM and walked out at 10:30 AM just as I was told during my initial visit with Dr. Yu. Dr. Yu was great! He met with me and my wife in the recovery room after surgery and informed us about the surgery. He answered our questions and made sure we well informed prior to leaving. I was referred to Dr. Frank Yu by my PCP to have a Colonoscopy and Endoscopy done. However, after having read the few negative reviews on here, I was a bit nervous, but since he was PCP referred, I bit the bullet and proceeded to make my appointment. First of all, his clinic staff for my initial consultation went very well. His clinic staff were so nice, friendly, helpful. They helped me get all registered, get my medical history and personal details recorded, then Dr. Yu came in to see me. It was just a short consultation to introduce myself, get me filled in for the procedures, and mostly to any questions I had. To the negative reviews on Dr. Yu.....I will just say that he is not rude and he does care about his patients. Dr. Yu is a humble, no-nonsense, professional and he is very good at what he does. Just because he's not the outgoing and outspoken type, doesn't crack jokes, etc. just means that he is dedicated to looking out for your health and well-being, first and foremost. If you want a comedian, I'd recommend visiting a comedy club. That being said, I just completed my procedure just an hour ago....so I'm still a bit groggy from the sedative. I want to say that Dr. Yu's staff and nurses, where the procedure took place, were absolutely awesome! They were thorough, comforting, highly professional, and did exactly what they were supposed to do. I have had this procedure before, but when I was living overseas. My only concern today was that, like overseas, despite being under a sedative I knew exactly what was going on....when tubes were being stuck down my throat, etc. But here today, when I opened my eyes, I was thinking to myself, what the heck is wrong with this people?!?!? What is taking them so long to begin the procedure!....then my friend (who was to drive me home later) walked in and told me that they were done with the procedure 10-15 minutes ago! WHAT?!?!? I absolutely did not feel a thing....and had no idea whatsoever that the procedure was already over and done with!!! Dr. Yu came to see me shortly after I woke up to tell me what he'd found inside of me.....all good! Phew! And what service!.......this was the first time I'd ever sat in a wheelchair and pushed all the way down to my friend's car waiting at the front lobby entrance. I have been going to Dr. Frank Yu for years. he has performed two procedures, so far. However, now he seems to be full of hidden costs so beware. I have an HMO and even contacted them about my upcoming procedure and was told that it was completely covered with Anthem Blue Cross HMO. Not so with Dr Yu. My first two procedures were covered completely by my insurance. However, just days before my third procedure, I received a text indicating there was an additional $100 charge. I called to inquire about the charge. I recieved a phone message that there were even more charges with the anesthesiologist and the doctor as well. I kept the message for reference so I have proof. I also left a message stating if I did not get it in writing that my insurance covered all costs, I would cancel the procedure. I spoke with Molly from the Barranca Surgery Center the following day and suddenly my insurance would cover everything but the $100 copay. I won't go on as it is a long story, but get it in writing there will not be any additional charges or else you may have a surprise. This rating does not reflect his good service. This is an ethical issue. Dr. Yu, be upfront with your patients. Explain all costs during consultation. Honesty is the best policy. read more

Dr. Yu has a very friendly mannerism about him. He talks to you in terms you understand. I'm a 45 ye old woman who doesn't want to think about colonoscopies, but they are very important as a preventative measure! My mother passed away young (49) with colon cancer. I've had 2 colonoscopies performed by Dr. Yu, both were painless; no issues after. His staff is very informative; will explain procedures and instructions to do beforehand very thoroughly. Terrible experience getting no help. I went here after months of struggling with pain building up the courage to finally seek help. He found out I was a game developer and spent most of the time asking me to make a game about colonoscopies instead of listening to my problems or telling me what my issues could be. He ordered a colonoscopy which was the worst experience of my life and gave me no information as to what my problem was. read more

Doctor Yu seems to be nice, however the office billing system was very out of date. Payment can be only made by mailing in a check or calling the office to pay by card. However, the phone line was down and call couldn't go through. I wish they could have easier way to save some stress. read more

Dr Yu is treating me w a hardcore liver medicine but after 4 tries they can not call in sublingual zofran (the office lady Ronnie never heard of this word sublingual she asked me to spell it) today I called at 6:30 am after getting sick, and dr Yu picked up! He was caught off guard & said he heard there is no side effects of nausea, that he ever heard of, on this medicine (it's listed as number 2 side effect on pamphlet) & that I should go see another doctor for my side effects. Like he did not believe me!!. Wow. I feel like he could care less about treating the side effects his medicine he prescribed are causing & it's just nauseous medicine - not controlled ....just don't bother him(?) . The one guy who is nice in this office is Chris so I will say thanks to him. update: one month later / i stuck w him even w no apology and today he terminated my treatment w him bc he saw my review and said i hurt his business. read more

WARNING! DO NOT GO HERE Just like what other said: Frank Yu is literally the worst physician I have ever had. He doesn't even care about my problem (upper stomach pain), he ordered blood test and ultrasound for me (this was another disaster I don't wanna think about it again). In the end he just told me to lose some weight. The stomach pain came back a few times in the next few months so I decided to go to another doctor in Newport Beach later and she is way much better and professional than this guy. She arranged an EGD (upper endoscopy) for me right after the 1st office visit after knowing my symptoms. And it turns out that I do have gastritis and she also took some cold forceps biopsies for histology to see if this is caused by Helicobacter pylori. read more

This specialist is truly special. I really hate going to any doctor, let alone to be sedated and tubed for a colonoscopy! But I survived? First appointment for consult went well, his staff tries very hard to handle everything perfect. I showed up 2 hours early and was able to be worked into the schedule. Dr. Yu is on the quiet side and very brief, but he is highly knowledgable and skilled. The staff handles all instructions, appointing, and prescriptions. I was scheduled three days later and with high anxiety, drank the miralax and took the dulcolax as directed and showed up to my appointment at the surgery center. Just as impressive were the highly skilled staff there. I had got myself so upset, I was crying. They were all so sympathetic and the anesthetist assured me she would be there thru the whole thing, not to worry and they will all take good care of me! Very considerate, very respectful, practically held my hand the whole way. There are clocks all around so I could see the time. My scheduled time was 11:15 am, and when she asked if I was ready, it was 11:05 am, next thing I knew, I said I could feel sleepy. When I woke up, it was 11:20 am and I was looking at the post op nurse! She cheerfully said I was done and she called my ride! That was that, crying for nothing. Then dr. Yu came in with the photos and paperwork, said it went perfect, smiled and said I was wonderful. Impeccable clean place, all staff members are well groomed, very nice and pretty much nothing to worry about at all. And trust me, I did all my research! I was sent to Dr. fang for a colonoscopy. Perfect location, front staff is excellent and my wait time was short. I love the fact that you are having everything done right there and don't have to be transported to another floor. The nurses were phenomenal, I don't remember a thing, which is probably great. Dr. fang met me both before and after the procedure explained results and gave me two hard copies of the results with pictures. Similar to what other folks said, in these reviews he's not a huge talker but he tells you what you need to know both before and after words. And he is very nice. WARNING: Frank Yu is literally the worst physician I have ever had. Unprofessional, rude, careless, and even dangerous. I honestly don't understand some of the positive marks. You have been warned. Some facts below: After having a surgery, while I just opened my eyes and was still under the influence of anesthesia, he came into my recovery room (which was his obligation) and gave me a lot of info and directions. Asked me if I understood. I absent-mindedly replied "OK". Then he just walked out and disappeared. Afterwards, I don't even remember what he said at all (Honestly, who would?). But this is not all. In my very first visit, he was playing some media on an iPad located next to me. He told me (not ask me, he ordered me) to turn it off. I didn't think much of it and looked for its off switch for about 10 seconds. He was yelling at me "turn it off!" repeatedly. I was shocked, what's with this guy? I am a patient, not his house servant. But I didn't think much of it, and went on with the visit. Then, he asked me a series of questions regarding my condition, to which I answered plainly. At the end of the session, he drew a conclusion from imaginary data exactly opposite of what I just told him. This happened several times. With rudeness and uncaring attitude aside, his poor listening and data gathering ability is not just unprofessional, but dangerous. After my 2 visits, I called my primary care physician and and told her about my experience. My prim. doctor confessed that I am not the only one who has had a poor experience with Frank Yu--she has had multiple complaints. I will never visit this clinic again, and for your own good, I suggest you do the same. read more

in December of 2019 I had a colonoscope done by doctor YU. he was very respectful he sat down with me during the consult answered my questions and sunshine on many medications I was worried. after my scope he came to my room and I wasn't very coherent so all I heard was that he had removed some polyps and would be calling me. when he called me he was very informative he took time to answer my questions and to go over my concerns. I am now seeing him for my second colon scope however this time I have symptoms and I am very scared I am choosing him again because I had a good experience with them and he seemed to know what he was doing I am hoping that this goes well just as the last one did but this is going to require more attention because it's just not your basic scope it's to find out what's wrong with me and this time I had to have a CT scan which I've never had to have before cuz I've never had any problems with my intestines other than polyps so I'm leaving it positive review and I will update the review after my colon exam I'm sure that doctor Yu will be informative and patient with me and find the problem. if needed I am sure that he will refer me if I need another doctor and to someone that he has confidence in but they think doctor Yu who is experienced patient respectful and knowledgeable, will be able to find the problem / diagnosis. *I highly recommend Dr. Fang Frank Yu! * I am 51 years old and this is my 1st Colonoscopy. *I went to Dr. Yu for a Colonoscopy after I had interviewed 4 other Doctors. *This procedure was very stressful to me and had a lot of concerns. *Out of all the Doctors I felt the most comfortable with Dr. Yu and his staff. *His office is up to date and is all computerized. I was at several Doctor offices where they are still using the paper method! Writing notes on the front of manila file folders! *Dr Fang Frank Yu staff was efficient, professional, personable and had all the systems down. *When I asked for a copy of my records it was emailed to me within 2 hours. *Meeting Doctor Yu was very enjoyable. Nice bedside manners, good sense of humor, listens, took his time with me, had a large 3 dimensional chart so he could explain how the body works and what are all the pros and cons of the procedure. *After meeting with him, I spoke to the coordinator and she scheduled the surgery date and showed me in detail what I needed to do to prepare for surgery, where to go, time, what to wear, how to do the cleanse before surgery, etc... (It was also written in detail on paperwork that I could easily understand and follow). * Surgery Day: I woke up scared and apprehensive. * Arrived at the Surgical Center on time and the waiting room had a nice atmosphere and was very clean. * Everyone preparing me for the Colonoscopy was great, very professional, and explained what they were doing before they did it - I started to relax. * The atmosphere in the area was very friendly, cheerful with nice teamwork. * Loved the 2 hot blankets the nurse covered me with! *Dr. Yu met me one more time before the procedure and I felt very, calm and reassured. He definitely knows what he is doing! * He was very aware of everything going on and I could tell that he has high expectations of the people who are working with him. He wants everyone to have their systems and procedures performed to the highest degree of professionalism and accuracy. * All I asked was that I do not want to feel ANYTHING (I'm a baby when it comes to pain) and that is what happened! I'm 54 and this was my 1st colonoscopy. I was procrastinating this procedure for the past 3 years and finally decided it's better to find out now rather than later. Dr. Yu made the entire procedure very easy to understand and his staff was very professional. They explained the entire pre-colonscopy procedure about the clear liquid diet. The most uncomfortable part was AFTER drinking the Miralax solution. I liked mixing the Miralax solution with a white grape sparkling water rather than Gatorade. My procedure was schedule at 8:30am at the Specialty Surgery Center(very nice). The surgery center preparation process was great. Dr. Yu's nurse came in and wheeled me into the procedure room. I didn't remember the procedure which is the best part. Great sedative whatever it was. The last thing I remembered was saying hi to Dr. Yu as he came into the room and then I'm waking up in the recovery room with my wife sitting next to me. No soreness or pain or memory of the procedure. Upon checking out, I received a 3 page report with color pictures. A few hours later it was lunch at Ding Tai Fung.
