This review is written from the patient's spouse. My husband became Dr. Ngo's patient after being admitted to the hospital with what we thought were kidney stones. Turned into a 5 month long ordeal involving gallbladder surgery and every known complication possible. (BTW, the complications were NOT from her care). We were VERY fortunate to meet Dr. Ngo after my husband was admitted to the hospital; she did rounds and became the ONLY gastroenterologist he would see. My husband is very particular, to put it nicely. She was really amazing. Very knowledgeable, straight forward and provided the best care. She referred him out for some procedures, and the colleagues we saw were equally great. I can't say enough about the care she gave throughout this ordeal. My husband trusted her and we became so confident in what she advised and the treatment options she recommended. Every time he had to go back to the ER for some other complication (at one point, this was every week for 5 wks straight); she would hear that he was there, she'd show up and check in on him. It seems very difficult these days to find a doctor who can keep up with the crazy hours and demands of their profession, while having a good bedside manner while addressing patient/spouse concerns. Dr. Ngo does an amazing job of this! Most of our time was in the hospital, but the few times we saw them, the office staff were equally wonderful, especially working with insurance and arranging home care visits. One of the best providers I've ever seen. I had been told by two other doctors that medication was the only treatment for me, which hadn't been working. I was told my condition is chronic and that I "have to learn to live with it". I knew from self-education that there were more tests and treatment options available. Nothing is truly more healing than seeing a provider who is professional, takes their time, spends over an hour with you fully evaluating your case, and gracefully explaining what their thoughts are. I have very clear, reasonable next steps of treatment and I know what to expect next. I will wait as many months as I need to any time I need to see her. She's not just worth it, she's the only doctor I've found who really knows about my condition. I have hEDS, and it is SO rare to find someone who understands the entire picture of how this disease impacts the GI. I could cry happy tears. She's putting me on track to have quality of life again. read more

BEWARE This doctor lies, she said she did an operation on me and she wasn't even there. Her nurse who was training someone else said they operated on my buttocks and in 15 minutes they were done so they got the money from my insurance company and I filed a grievance. Shady Shady doctor who just wants money and lies to get it. Watch out do not recommend her . read more

I've been trying to get into this office for months now. Girl who does the scheduling could care less about your suffering. Every answer is no. When I asked to leave a message for the Dr she said no. You're not a patient of record. Well that was the point. Sadly this MD specializes in a procedure I need . Apparently there is no one else. Seems hard to believe. Checking out USC and UCLA. It says little about this Dr if she employs this difficult, rude individual. read more

I tried to call for to make an appointment and was told there were 5 patients ahead of me. The gal who answered the phone wasn't very nice either. This was after I was expected to complete an online form that asked for my social security number. I didn't enter it since I couldn't tell if the form was secure. Not sure why they need to ask for that information. My gynecologist referred me to Dr. Ngo but I think I will ask her for another referral. Doctors offices need to treat people with respect, care and concern. I certainly got none of that when I called. The office staff are the frontline for the doctors and make the initial impression for new patients. After reading other reviews I can see that other people have experienced problems too. read more

She may be ok, but her office assistant, Natalie, is impossible! She is extremely rude during scheduling and has zero interest in being helpful. I was scheduled for a routine colonoscopy that I am supposed to get every 5 years since I have a close family history of colon cancer. She canceled my appointment and told me that my insurance denied the claim. This makes no sense and she clearly submitted the paperwork incorrectly. Now I have to scramble to find another doctor to schedule my colonoscopy. Do these people actually care about patients and their health? It certainly doesn't seem that way!! read more

My doctor referred me to Dr. Gno due to high liver enzymes. She ordered a blood workup and ultra sound. I had these February 27 and April 2. When I hadn't received a call regarding my results, I called her office and left a message. I called a second time before I had a return call. She scheduled a phone appointment with Dr. Gno; however, she tried to do a video and I had told her I didn't have that capability. She refused to set another appointment but instead had me set one with one of her PA's which at least another week away. I had phone trouble and could not connect. Thus, I needed another appointment which was again at least another week away. That time i had a brand new phone but still wasn't connecting. It was frustrating on both the scheduler and my part but I was not getting my results. She said Dr. Gno did not reschedule after 3 missed appointments. They were not missed, they were unable to connect through no fault of my own. I called again today to try once more but have not had a return call. How can I get my results? I have suggested emailing them in language I can understand but that was not done either. It is now over a month and I have no idea what the results showed or if I need further treatment. Dr. Ngo has been my Gastroenterologist for over 10 years. She took over for my former physician who retired. When a person has Ulcerative Colitis it is a horrible disease. Eating healthy is not healthy for people with UC, it is a balancing act. The ultimate goal is remission. When she took over my care she changed one of my medications and after a few months I finally achieved that goal. I have been stuck with this disease and she may ask some strange questions, however the questions make since. She listens, she does not rush you. When I do have a flair up, she is available to help you. She also educates you to understand what disease you have, how to handle it when you feel a flair up is coming. Believe me, you know. It may sound strange, but she is very gentle when performing a colonoscopy. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Catherine Ngo for the past 7 years. I highly recommend her. Her strengths are her knowledge, compassion, kindness and integrity. Three members of my family are also patients. Another thing I personally appreciate is that she is always on-time or early when it comes time to have a procedure performed. I have been approved by my insurance to see Dr. Ngo and was turned away because I had been to that office before three years ago and seen a doctor whom is now retired. My very first appointment she knew my history and dates of previous procedures done by other doctors, and the results better than I did. She took time to explain things to me and she made it simple enough for me to understand but didn't make me feel stupid for not knowing.
