How do I make an appointment? No one ever answers the phone except for the after hours service and my messages are not returned

I encountered the same problem and eventually found out that Kevin Ashby, M.D. has been on medical leave since 2023. I hope this helps.

I am deeply disappointed with the lack of patient-centered care at this clinic. The staff…read moreenvironment felt heavy and uncomfortable, and the administrative hurdles are unreasonable--they require a full appointment just to answer simple questions. Furthermore, their communication is confusing, as they call from various unrelated phone numbers (including a dental office). Beyond the poor service, I experienced significant billing issues; they billed Medicare, my PPO, and myself twice for a single visit. Finally, I strongly disagree with their clinical assessment and the procedure they recommended. I would suggest looking elsewhere for care.

Title: Deeply Disappointed with Communication, Follow-Up, and Professionalism…read more I rarely write reviews, but this experience has been frustrating enough that I felt it needed to be shared -- especially for anyone who's dealing with a serious medical situation. I had my first appointment with Oceana Gastroenterology in early August. Before the visit, they sent me an enormous amount of paperwork -- it took me about an hour to complete everything online. When I arrived, I was surprised to find that they didn't have my information on file and asked me to fill it out all over again. It was excessive and redundant, but I complied, thinking that being thorough would lead to high-quality care. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The nurse who first came into the room seemed unprepared and mispronounced several basic medications that I take -- ones that any medical professional should be familiar with. That immediately made me question the competence of the staff. Thankfully, the nurse practitioner who came in afterward was professional and provided some clarity. They mentioned they would be scheduling me for another scope procedure, which was very important since I had a prior biopsy during an emergency room visit out of state that might have shown cancerous results. This next step was crucial for me. I offered to send over all of my hospital records from Kansas, and they gave me an email address. I uploaded and shared the folder containing everything. When I asked for confirmation, I was told that the person who handles that email had already gone home for the day and no one else could check. I was assured that I'd get a call back the next day -- but no one ever followed up. Weeks went by without any contact. I called about four weeks later to check on my biopsy scheduling, and they told me it could take "another four weeks or longer" because they were waiting on insurance. More weeks passed -- still nothing. When I called again and left a message, it took them four days to return my call. They said the provider responsible for scheduling the procedure would reach out to me, but two more weeks have gone by, and I still haven't heard a word. At this point, I've completely lost faith in this practice. The lack of communication, the mishandling of paperwork, and the complete absence of follow-up -- especially for something as serious as ruling out cancer -- are unacceptable. If anyone from management reads this, I sincerely hope you take it to heart. * Ensure that more than one person has access to patient record emails. * Establish follow-up protocols so patients aren't left waiting indefinitely. * Train your front-line staff to properly pronounce and understand common medications -- it makes a big difference in building patient confidence. I'm not sure what the purpose of my visit even was, since no one has followed through on anything since. I truly hope this review prompts some reflection and improvement, because no patient should ever feel this forgotten -- especially when their health may be on the line.

Dr. Chung is a colorectal surgeon who truly exemplifies what patient-centered care should be. First of all, I have never in my life called a doctor's office and had the actual doctor pick up the phone. Dr. Chung did just that this morning. It was a refreshing, almost unheard-of level of accessibility that immediately put me at ease. He doesn't take insurance, but his fee structure is transparent and fair. I came in with a very painful issue that was causing me a lot of discomfort and bleeding. Instead of having to navigate the maze of ER visits, PCP referrals, and urgent care waiting rooms, Dr. Chung got me in the same day. There was no one else in the waiting room, and the entire experience felt incredibly personal and unhurried. Dr. Chung explained everything to me in a way that was both humorous and approachable. He used lighthearted terms like "poop juice" and "butt stuff," which made an awkward situation feel completely embarrassment-free. He gave me a conservative treatment option, but I chose the in-office procedure, a quick removal right then and there. The only discomfort was the numbing shot (a brief 7 out of 10 on the pain scale), and after that, it was smooth sailing. Dr. Chung's practice feels like the perfect blend of old-fashioned, personal healthcare and a modern, welcoming office environment. He's a young, knowledgeable, and down-to-earth professional, probably in his 40s, who made me feel comfortable and heard. In short, I can't recommend him highly enough. If you're looking for a compassionate, straightforward, and incredibly effective colorectal surgeon, this is how healthcare should be done. You'll be in excellent hands!

So I went to this place for a consultation appointment at 2:30 pm yesterday. I was there on time,…read morethen I checked in and signed a bunch of paperwork that makes medical care so expensive here and exonerates everyone in the process in case I get screwed. Then, I sat down in the lobby patiently awaiting to get my name called. A little later, another gentleman came in and told the front desk that he had a 2:45 appointment, and he did pretty much the same things as I did. After another 5 minutes or so, his name got called and he went inside. I didn't give it much thought thinking he could be seeing a different doctor than mine. Then later, another old lady came in for her appointment, I didn't hear what she said about her appointment time, and she got called rather quickly, but I was still waiting. After half an hour of waiting, my patience was running out, so I went to the front desk and asked them why people who had come after me went in before me. Well, my complaint kinda worked, my name got called and I was put into a room to wait. While I was waiting, I heard a doctor speak to a patient in an adjacent room, and it was a female doctor. I happened to know that my doctor was a female too. So I patiently waited for a good 5-10 minutes, and when I had a pretty good idea that the doctor was done with the patient and was walking out, I opened my door and saw the gentleman with the 2:45 appointment accompanied by a female doctor, who was the very same doctor that would finish me with my consultation in a few minutes. At that point, I was beyond being upset, but I kept my cool. Before I left, I requested a meeting with their office manager who patronized me with some bogus reasons that the front desk young lady was new, it was her 2nd day at work, lack of training, blah, blah, blah. Come on, I had been waiting in the lobby for over half an hour, and she was obviously the more senior one than the other dude. What really troubles me is why they would arrange not to see me with an appointment at 2:30 for a 5-minute consultation, instead they chose to see a patient with an appointment at 2:45 1st for a half an hour visit. Could it be that they enjoyed keeping a foreigner-looking individual waiting as he didn't look he belonged in the 1st place? That I don't really know, I certainly hope not. But isn't it an interesting time in which we live. Full disclosure: I am a Chinese, the gentleman is either a hispanic or southern Asian, the lady is white.
