Terrible person. I had received an "urgent" referral which I'm supposed to be seen within a week... he scheduled me over a month later. I informed him how important it was to be seen and he told me to go to the hospital then. I was so turned off by his communication I requested a new doctor referral. I received a text at 10:30 PM at night saying not to contact his office again. Like no problem sir, I won't be! I've been a consultant in healthcare for many years. So I've seen a lot of different providers and practices all over the US. Trust me when I say: do not go to this doctor. I don't ever write reviews but I hope it will help people avoid the experience my mom had with Yap and his office. My mother was referred here for her various GI issues/symptoms and has been seen by this doctor for well over a year. She has only had worsened symptoms with no concern in the world from Yap. He has no treatment or investigative plan in place to actually solve her problems or get her the help that she needs. He only asks her to do procedures, and WITHHOLDS exam results until she agrees to go in for her next procedure. My mom was scheduled for an endoscopy *in order to receive counsel about her ultrasound results.* There is no clear need for an endoscopy, so she asked to cancel the appointment until she gets her ultrasound results. NO RESPONSE from the doctor and his office is unreachable (as it often is). A doctor ghosting his patient is reprehensible behavior and I will find a way to report Yap to the state board. He clearly is only practicing to collect insurance money and preying on folks like my mother who can't afford private insurance (she is on medi-cal). Abhorrent doctor and rude/nonexistent front office staff. What kind of doctor doesn't have regular office hours or at least front desk coverage?? My mother had to go to the imaging center directly to get a printout of her results. Still no follow up from Yap. Unacceptable. And from reading these reviews, it seems like many other patients have received the same awful, borderline malicious, patient experience. TLDR; If I could give 0 stars I would. Avoid at all costs. No compassionate care--they're only here for your $$. read more

This doctor is horrible and when you question him or go for a second opinion his ego is so fragile that he personally calls you to terminate services. But wait, taking time out of his day from his patients is not enough... going for second opinion after visiting him agitates him enough to also write a letter personally and sign it. Dr. Yap is truly one of a kind. I called at least eight different GI offices to schedule an appointment for an urgent problem my dad was having. All of them were booked out 2-3 months. Dr. Yap personally texted me to promptly set up an appointment and even pre-booked an endoscopy and colonoscopy. My dad was very pleased by his bedside manner and compassion. I texted Dr. Yap at 10:30 pm on a Thursday night to get biopsy results, and to my surprise, he texted me screenshots of chart notes and biopsy results right away. I have never known a doctor to act that promptly with patient messages. I have found my family's GI doctor for life. We won't be seeing anyone else. read more

I would give ZERO stars if I could and this is just based off of communication via text (this is how his office communicates primarily). I text the phone number they have been texting me from, asking a question about the treatment the doctor had recommended for me to get. The doctor recommended an endoscopy (even tho I just had one last week in the hospital) and then he said that my case is "too complicated and complex" for him so he would be referring me out after the endoscopy. The question I had was why not just use the results from my endoscopy I JUST had done 6 days ago and refer me out to whoever he was going to instead of going thru all that again and he wasn't even going to be my doctor? His office (not sure if it's staff or the doctor himself) replied extremely rudely back in the text stating he already answered me in my phone call (he did not, we didn't even discuss this) and she/he Said I "think too much". All because I chose to be an advocate for myself and ask questions, I got gaslit by this office. What horrible staff and the doctor should feel embarrassed and ashamed he has people like that representing his company. read more

Do NOT go to this drs office. My sister had a very serious condition that was highly contagious called C Diff. It took them almost 2 weeks to call her. Luckily she went to another GI dr for a second option, and he took this very seriously and told her what to do and got her the medications she needed. It's amazing that the other GI dr interceded otherwise not only would my sister have become worse with this deadly disease, she could have infected others. I'll start with the receptionist, she's extremely stupid or it's a language problem. She doesn't speak English well enough to be answering the phones. Then, she's just awful. She's unable to follow simple instructions. Dr. YAP has always been a great , but not anymore!!!!! He wants me to make an appointment (knowing I live an hour away) to go over test results. He can VERY EASILY take 5 minutes to call me and let me know. This tells me it's all about the money!!!! I thought I finally found a great dr, but it's not worth the hassle anymore. I had a office appointment with Dr.Yap and he is so nice and professional. Normally my Chinese friends would recommend me to Frank Yu, but after seeing him one time enough was enough . He didn't even bother doing a blood work done or a lab. Instead he just says just do the colonoscopy and you will be fine.p and when I asked questions he simply ignored me. So I went to see Dr.Yap and he was very nice and professional. He was willing to get a lab done for me along with some bloodwork. He also explained why I need a colonoscopy instead of just telling me I need one without reasons. The other reviews are all fake because dr.Yap is a kind person. read more

Nice doctor, skillful enough but he runs a very lean staff and office. His appointments are never on time. You have to wait at least 30 mins before seeing him. He books 2 appointments for one time slot so whichever patient get there first get seen first. The office doesn't accept credit card for payments only check or cash. Wow! I can't express how amazing Dr.Yap has been. I was put on a general antibiotic by my gyno and I got C-Diff. Dr.Yap helped me through the entire process, I would call him at 9pm in excruciating pain (would leave a voice mail) and he would always call me back within the hour. I felt that I was in good hands and learned that I could trust him. He's empathetic and understanding. I can't thank him enough. Update: he also did my colonoscopy, everything went well and I was comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation. Not only have I called Dr. Yap at 9PM but sometimes at 1am etc. He ALWAYS called me back and he never lost his patience. This doctor truly cares for the people he treats. He's a hero. :) read more

We have anthem blue cross HMO for the first time. Even before we signed up with him, Dr. Yap called us several times and our PCP to help to get special authorization to see him. He understood our urgent need and was very careful to call to follow up. His administrator/staff, Sheryl, is also very knowledgeable and attentive, having worked previously for years at another gastroenteritis doctor for years. Sheryl called Prospect medical Group to add my husband as patient because Prospect didn't even know though we were already signed up through their medical group though it had already been one month. She then called the next day to make sure the update was done so we can apply for special authorization. Never had a doctor and his staff been so careful and attentive. At the exam, Dr. yap was thorough. He already reviewed my husbands lab work, having obtained it himself by calling our PCP first. He reviewed all of my husband's medical history and even called the drug company immediately after to see if any interactions between the malaria pills he will be taking and his hepatitis medicine. And then called us right back to explain. Also Dr. yap instructed his administrator call for an overdue liver ultrasound authorization right away. Everything was taken care of before we left office which is a relief because my husband would be going to Africa in two weeks, and it took our PCP three weeks just to get authorization to se him. Overall, we could not have found a more compassionate and careful doctor, respectful and mindful of patient's needs. We are thoroughly impressed and grateful to have such a doctor to care for our family.We are happy to fund out he can also be a primary care physician. We are switching over!:) read more

Dr. Yap GENUINELY cares about his patients and goes above and beyond to make sure that they are comfortable and well cared for. His receptionist was a delight to speak with as she scheduled an appointment for me the same day I called. Dr. Yap took his time & reviewed my health history & discussed the results of my exams. I can honestly say that Dr. Yap is one of the best doctors and sweetest person you will ever meet. I'm so glad to have seen him. Talking about caring doctors, I don't think you can find anyone better than him. Dr. yap is one of the only doctors I've met that would call you to check how you're doing, whether it's after a procedure or just to see how the meds are working out. He is genuinely concerned on his patients health and well-being. I'm really glad to have seen him. EXCEPTIONAL. I was leary of using Dr Yap due to some negative reviews "He did not look me in eye" etc. I know alot of negative reviews are fake or done by competitors so here is MY legit review. I had endoscopy 1-19-18, Dr Yap was very friendly in first exam and even after procedure. Dr Yap is professional and explained every thing prior/after procedure. My last procedure at by another Doctor 2 yrs previous (Saddleback) was the opposite, did not explain after procedure or follow up and kinda rude. The staff and doctors at the medical facility where procedures are done were outstanding! So my "legit" review is I would HIGHLY recommend Dr Yap. read more

After rushing into urgent care my husband needed to see a gastroenterologist right away last year. The doctor the urgent care referred did not have any appts available for weeks so I called around using Yelp to try and make an appt. Dr. Yap was the 2nd call I made and after leaving a message I got a call back a few minutes later and got an appt right away. He did an exam on my husband and quickly set him for an endoscopy. Long story short it turned out to be the dreaded Cdiff bacteria! He was put on medication right away and now he is good as new! Dr Yap was very short with me on My first visit and basically tried to talk me out of seeing him ( maybe he doesn't want Cal Optima patients). I began my infusions for my colititis and missed a appointment at his office. They do not email nor call to remind their patients. I got a letter saying he was discharging me from his practice. It's amazingly refreshing to have a doctor who cares. I called Dr. Yap after my first GE put me on several empirical treatments and I was still suffering from gastrointestinal bleeding (I had been for 3+ months by the time I contacted Dr. Yap). When I called their office, Dr. Yap picked up himself and even called me back to confirm my insurance information. Never had a doctor do that. So from there I decided to set up an appointment. I went into the office and got to see Dr. Yap right away. He sat there and listened to everything I had to say and gave my symptoms a careful thought before putting me on a treatment (where as my first GE just sat on his computer typing as I was describing my symptoms). I started my treatment and Dr. Yap even called me to check in with me. One of the calls, I had experienced a bad episode and left him a message at night and he called me back THAT NIGHT and spent over 10 minutes with me on the phone giving me valuable advice rather than telling me to just go in for another visit. It's been about a month since I started going to Dr. Yap and my issue has subsided quite substantially. I can't recommend him enough, as he's truly the most caring doctor I've ever encountered. read more

Dr. Yap is nice and called a couple times to explain the test result. However, their billing process is handled by an outside firm and somehow is really slow. They sent me a bill 5 months after test, and the amount is much bigger than Dr. Yap has estimated before the test. Understood this has to do with insurance, but it is a bad experience. I had a few tests done by this Dr and I was in pain for over 2 weeks after a standard colonoscopy. I had to go to the ER the following day because I could not move my stomach and was having extreme pain in my back, rib cage and side. The hospital did an Ultrasound and cat-scan and said that this Dr was way to heavy with his hand and pushed up against my organs way to hard and it will take a while to heal. I have had this done 2 times prior by a different Dr and never had any pain after the procedure. I tried reaching out to the Dr for over 14 days for my biopsy results and I still have not received them. I received a call from his nurse stating to stop calling that he has a lot of surgeries scheduled and when he has time he will check on my results. ( I called 4 times in approx 8 days) On top of it all he forgot to give me my prescriptions after the procedure. Do your research before you allow any Dr to perform this procedure. My insurance chose Dr Yap. I would never allow someone with his bedside manner to ever treat me again. Do not let him touch you! Stay away from this awful Dr! Had a procedure done over a year ago. I still receive new bills for it to this day. I have spoken to this Doctors billing department and have been told twice my account has been paid off. On top of that this doctor only accepts check or cash. Upon paying in cash they do not communicate that you have paid this with their billing department so the billing department will hound you with calls and letters. Dr. Yap will send you in for every test and procedure possible before giving you any sort of medication or explanation of the issues. After multiple tests and procedures I received no sort of explanation of the issues I was having. I had spent thousands of dollars on Dr. Yaps methods of treatment and got no where. I sought out the opinion of another doctor and received treatment with results in a week at a FRACTION of the cost. Dr. Yap=waste of time and money.
