I hired Your Home Builders (YHB) for a backyard project and couldn't be happier with the results. They removed and repoured old concrete footers in the backyard, plus removed and replaced a footer in the front. On several of these footers, they set cedar posts plumb, both in the front and the back, so I could mount my hose reels level and secure. They also set new light poles and built a two-sided fence around my heat pump. On top of that, they knocked out the entire project in a single day. Communication throughout was easy, and the owner, Gil, was friendly, responsive, and reasonable to work with. Gil did the bathroom remodel for me originally 2 years ago. I had leak issues for few days with my faucet, and my tenants complained about it. This was the first project I hired him. Gil did an amazing project helping to get the bathroom remodel and new skylight that I really changed everything in this small bathroom. We do not recommend your home builders. Firstly, our price increased 50% from the original quote. Secondly, we were strongly encouraged to not get permits by the owner Gil. Thankfully we went against his recommendations, because his team knew nothing anything about plumbing or electrical codes. We failed multiple inspections on both and had to change our plans throughout. Next, his team never came. They only arrived after noon. Some days they would come for 15 minutes and leave. When they did come, they often 'went to Home Depot' and would return 4-5 hours later or never return. They also spit on our floors and had no respect for our house. The team who did 90% of the work also quit at the end of the project. Gil did nothing but evade questions or even complain about his own workers but do nothing about it. His worker who quit also openly complained about him not paying them. At one point, we went 5 days with zero contact from Gil only to reach out to him and have him reply that we were ready to schedule an inspection, which could have been scheduled an entire week prior had we known. After passing our final inspection, we had to wait two weeks for someone to come to finish the job. The original team built our walls at an angle, requiring them to tear down a tiled and completed shower to redo. Our ceiling is left slanted. They also didn't insulate any of the walls, which was only partially fixed on the wall the second contractor tore down, yet we paid for it all. We were told an estimate of 2 months and the job took almost 8 months mainly due to his people working on other jobs and poor communication from Gil. You will have to be on top of everything and keep a list of things they promise, or they will be forgotten. Unless you reach out to Gil, he will never reach out to you. The final job itself was good, but the process was painful. read more

Gil did a great job recommending solutions for how to optimize space in such a small space. He was very easy to work with and talk through ideas with. Hard pass on YHB. After years of follow-up from them, we finally agreed to hire YHB to sand and resurface our deck. Gil came by twice to give a quote, and we settled on $3,600. Initially, they said the job could start the following week--then changed it last minute to the following day. On the scheduled day, they said they'd arrive at 9am. By 9:45, I had to reach out--only then was I told someone would be there by 10:30. They finally arrived at 11. The crew clearly had no idea what the job entailed. They started sanding a bench with a tiny hand sander, had no commercial sander or equipment, made phone calls to Gil. They said the pine wouldn't sand well and claimed it would take weeks to complete. Isn't that exactly what the quote was for? About an hour later, Gil arrived and echoed the same story--that the job was more complicated and would take weeks. I asked what "perfect" meant to them, but no one seemed to know. All they kept repeating was that pine shouldn't be sanded. Not exactly confidence-inspiring. And yes, pine can be sanded. After dealing with our fair share of unreliable contractors, we weren't willing to waste more time babysitting a team that didn't even want to be there. We told them to leave. For a company that chased our business for years, you'd think they'd actually want the job. In the end, my husband and I rented commercial sanders and finished the entire deck ourselves--in under a week. It looks fantastic. Wish we'd skipped YHB altogether. Proceed with caution. read more

I hired Your Home Builders to partially remodel my daylight basement. They re-did a bathroom, including a nice new tiled walk-in shower; an office space with builtin shelving; they turned my garage into a family room and they converted my laundry room to a laundry/kitchenette combo. Most of the spaces got new cabinetry, and the garage work included cutting out a whole new window and new double doors. I'm happy with the results of the job. The crew did a good job dealing with surprises behind the walls in my ancient house, including addressing a serious leak we discovered in the foundation wall with installing a sump pump and working around a complex deck support situation. To be honest, the job started off a little rocky, my wife and I didn't know about several materials we were supposed to choose and when. I was mistakenly working directly with the crew chief on some of these things, thinking it would be faster and easier. When I made sure to start communicating only with Gil, communication improved greatly and the job had smooth finish. One thing in particular that I liked was that they did a great job working their changes in with the existing finished parts of the basement. So we didn't have to tear everything down. After the job there was a leak in the new shower they installed. Which has been the only "mistake" I've found. Gil immediately took ownership of the problem and sent out a builder to pull out the tile, find and fix the problematic joint, cut out the wet drywall, and then replace it all after it all dried out. When I first discovered the leak I was worried it would be some giant ongoing headache, but Gil's guy fixed it very quickly. read more

I'm really curious as to what criteria Yelp used to "guarantee" Your Home Builders. If you are even considering calling this business- don't. You will end up being your own GC as I was, because once the owner (Gil) does the initial consultation, you will never see him again. We were promised our tiny bathroom remodel (this bathroom is slightly bigger than a powder room) would be finished in 5 days and after 12 days, I fired them. A worker would come in and work 5 hours, 2 of those hours being spent at Home Depot buying items for other people's projects. He wasn't buying ANYTHING for our project because I pre-bought everything and it was sitting in our spare bedroom. My husband blew a week's vacation sitting in the condo while the bathroom was supposed to be worked on, but only 12 hours of work was done the entire week. I had to call, text, communicate, send photos of work left unfinished to the owner every day- he never bothered to find out what was going on with our bathroom and always had an excuse as to why he wasn't communicating with us, why the worker he sent only worked 5 hours every day, why our shower didn't mix hot water properly- I could write a NOVEL on how botched this project was, and now I have to find someone else to finish it.
