I purchased a 2011 Hyundai Accent from Your Choice Autos (Joliet location) after reading decent reviews on Google Maps (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Your+Choice+Auto+Sales/@41.522286,-88.1205097,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m7!3m6!1s0x0:0x1140a15081f4bc5b!8m2!3d41.522286!4d-88.118321!9m1!1b1)
I had high hopes but unfortunately my buying experience left me feeling ripped off. I dealt with a salesman named Robert. He did not disclose several issues of the car before selling it including parasitic battery drain, two completely worn out tires (listed as "good tires" in the ad), and a rattling sound coming from the suspension (which turned out to be a bad front stabilizer bar). I decided to purchase after negotiating a discount because of the worn out tires and rattling sound (I did not know about the parasitic battery drain because they did not disclose it before my purchase, and I found out after leaving the car off overnight the first night).
This business gives a two-week window limited warranty on their cars for major malfunctions (not including electric). Aside from the electrical issue, my check engine light came on near the end of this two-week window. I called to check whether I could bring the car in the following week because I had to be out of town. Robert led me to believe it would be no problem to bring the car in for inspection and repair because of my situation. Out of trust, I did not record the conversation but I wish I had.
I live in Chicago, so it took me an hour to drive the car to Your Choice Autos in Joliet the following week. When I got there, the friendly and helpful Robert I talked to on the phone was not friendly and helpful anymore. Hey may have delayed my visit on purpose so he could claim that they are not responsible for any issues because the two week limited warranty period had passed.
I wasted half my day bringing the car in, and now I am stuck with potentially expensive electrical issue which was intentionally kept secret (the car must have been dead when they went to retrieve it for me on the day of purchase). Furthermore, I lost the opportunity to have my roommate bring the car in while it was on warranty because Robert convinced me that everything would be taken care of if I brought the car in after my trip.
I was surprised by this scammy and corrupt experience with this business because of the positive reviews. Being suspect, I later checked reviewfraud.org I found that many of their reviews are in fact fradulent: http://reviewfraud.org/choice-auto-sales-joliet-il/ It's sad that experiences with dealers like these deteriorate trust in used car dealerships in general--some of which are running honest operations. If Robert had been helpful as he promised, I would have felt better about this transaction but I'm left instead wanting to warn any other potential customers of transacting with this business.
*BEWARE!*
UPDATE 5/31/2018: After leaving my negative review of Your Choice Autos, I was contacted by one of the managers, Naveed, who was much more friendly and offering to provide repairs for the car they sold me. I brought car in and they attempted to fix the electrical issue (which was partly resolved but not completely), and also the fuel inefficiency issue and TPMS light issue. They did all of this free of charge, but asked me to remove the negative review from before, which felt a bit coercive. I am happy with the customer service I received but wish I had received such service before filing my complaint on various review sites. I still own a car of questionable quality now because I was not made aware of its issues until after my purchase. But yes, at least they offered a lot of help with these issues after my initial negative review. read more
