Allow me to elaborate: First, I chose Yorktown Nails based on the number of positive reviews here on Yelp. So I thought I'd give them a try. I called at 9:30 am and let them know I'd arrive at 10 am. They were gracious and accommodating - so, I did not need an appointment. With that much lead time, I will call myself a walk-in client. The Deluxe Pedicure by Lin was fantastic. Before I provide a few details as to why allow me to state that my comparisons are 1) a stupendous experience in St. Lucia at The Body Holiday Spa which lingers in my mind and 2) another excellent spa pedicure experience at the Hibiscus Spa at the Marriott Westin in Grand Cayman. For both of these, the cost was more than double that of Yorktown Nails. Thus, the value of their service is positioned nicely. The Yorktown Nails Deluxe Pedicure was all that anyone could hope for in my opinion. All of the elements were executed in a top-notch manner. It lasted for almost a full hour and there was no rushing by Lin. As I drifted off onto another plane of pleasure, I can recall that the number of gels and creams applied were numerous and her attention to detail to my nails, cuticles and heels was memorable. It was the kind of experience wherein when it was over Lin had to tap me to bring me back to the reality of my existence. I was in another place but I did have to move on with my day. Alas, I can say that I will be back to Yorktown Nails if for no other reason than to see if this ethereal experience can be duplicated even if only partially. Before a last-minute trip, I was in a panic mode to get a pedicure; my usual nail techs were not available/opened on Saturdays and/or closed early. I was a little skeptical in going to a new nail salon, but such desperation called for desperate measures! Yorktown Nails seemed to have decent ratings, so I just took a chance and crossed all my phalanges for the best. I am SO GLAD that I did! They offer a variety of services at competitive price points, such as manis/pedis (different levels with different services), acrylic set/fills, designs, waxing (eyebrows, bikini, Brazilian, arms, etc.), and massages. They had a great selection of Opi, Essie, China Glaze, etc. polishes of different colors and shades, and even sparkles, too! I went for the Spa Pedicure, which included organic oils, massages (legs and feet), a hot stone massage for circulation, and luscious creams for moisturizing. I had Ms. Tina, and she was just sooo SWEET and AWESOME - she's been in the business for a good number of years, and you can just totally tell that she is so experience and is just that good! She was extremely mindful of keeping things sterile and was very sanitary-conscious, scarily meticulous (in a great way!) in the cuticle work/shaping/filing/buffing/polishing, and just overall, offered a pleasant, relaxing session. She was gentle, but also gave great/perfect pressure on the massages (I was crooning like a baby), and all the oils and the lotions that were used smelled wonderful. You are offered hot tea and/or water (while you wait or during your session), so that's a nice added touch. The massage chair had great options, and the bowl where you place your feet, I thought, was pretty! Just keep in mind that you cannot add tip when you pay with a card, so please make sure you bring enough cash with you to tip!!! The whole session itself was a little over an hour, and even though I went a few minutes past their closing time, in no way was there any rush - I so appreciated and was so grateful for that! I only came here because I had a gift certificate from my birthday. I wanted dip/powder and when I sat down the lady handed me gel polish to choose from. I told her I wanted dip and she said kept trying to get me to have gel. Finally after I told her no and I picked a color she proceeded to do my nails. I went this afternoon with two other friends and was extremely happy with the overall experience. We made an appointment and even though we arrived a few minutes early, were seen as soon as we showed up. The place itself was very clean and welcoming. I got a gel manicure and was seated in a large comfortable chair. Once seated, I was given the color options for gel nails. Instead of just being in bottles, the colors were displayed neatly on plastic nails so I was able to see the final product. My nail technician, Lynn, was amazing! She paid such careful attention to detail that truly impressed me. The tools used during the manicure had been individually cleaned and wrapped. My nails came out beautifully. They brought me the menu of hot tea offered which I beiieve were about 8 different varieties, menu of services and a stack of magazines without asking. I chose the pomegranate tea which was really good. I opted for the Organic Pedicure. My technician was Tracy. She was quiet which was fine. She did a fantastic job! She had just the right pressure for the leg massage. i hate really deep tissue massage or when the person keeps rubbing your shin for some reason. The hot stones could have been a bit hotter but it was all very relaxing. She was very clean with polish and maybe only one spot she had to remove polish from my skin. Definetly one of the best pedis I've ever had! I decided to go ahead and get a mani also. I chose the Signature Mani. I wanted a grey/silver base with white French tips. Decided to return to Yorktown Nails today since I was in the area. This used to my go-to for a few years. A lady named Tammy did my classic mani-pedi. She was friendly, took her time, but her skill was NOT nearly as good as the other nail technicians I had at Yorktown before. The edges were very sloppy, and my nails appeared to have too much polish - all signs of inexperienced work. Unfortunately, within four hours after I left, and after spending $58 incl. tips, three of my finger nails started to chip! No this is not okay! ASK FOR SOMEONE ELSE if you decide to visit, or take your money somewhere else. The inconsistency was why I left the first place. This is as good as it gets without going to a spa. I went some time in late January and the pedicure is still picture-perfect. The manicure lasted a week without any chips and about 10 days before significant chipping occurred. The space is pristine with brand new massage chairs and manicure stations. They use individualized, sterile tools. My technician was extremely friendly and did a fantastic job. She took her time with both services and offered to use a razor during my pedicure. She shaped my fingernails exactly how I had explained, and took the time to do three, very thin coats so that the color looked perfect but wouldn't chip easily. While I was originally lured in by the $28 mani/pedi deal, the regular prices posted on the wall looked very reasonable as well. I also had a chance to chat with one of the owners (a brother-sister duo, I was chatting with the brother), who was very kind and friendly. First, I respect the earlier reviewer's complaint about their cleanliness and fungus. However, I think her concerns are unfounded. Or at least unfounded when I got my service. I called in advance and requested Tina but, was told she was unavailable for my time/date requested. So, I chose to go with the available technicians. Usually, this is my go-to nail place. Today, no one showed me the list of pedi choices nor was I offered anything to drink. My pedi was decided for me ; I was never asked. I was given the most perfunctory experience. No massage, just a basic pedi. And when I said I did not want a mani or eyebrow wax, it was like I was persona non grata and she rushed me through. Literally as I was sitting down at the drying table -- my butt almost in the chair -- the woman made me get up and move into the corner so that another lady could sit where I was sitting, which smudged my nail. (Good thing I brought my own polish. I'll be fixing it at home.) In short: my nails are streaky. The skin around my two big toes was clipped in such an odd way that now, I have actual scabs on the tops of them. I am not sure why the skin there had to be clipped. I wanted to get the polish fixed, but the lady who did the work hung out long enough to get tipped and was then gone with another person. Never checked on me. And the best part: when getting out of the corner, the manicurist whose station i was clearly bumping into asked me if I was okay. "No," I replied, looking at my slightly bleeding, scabby big toe.
