Back again,burt this time on a Sunday afternoon. The food was great. Service was very friendly. The vegetable noodles in the vegetarian ramen are the same as the vegan ones in the custom section so it's actually vegan ramen not vegetarian. Getting a premade option tends to be cheaper than custom too. The tea is loose leaf in pots so that's pretty cool. Neat decor. Easy to find, close to public parking lots or there's street parking too. Overall a nice place to grab some ramen. read more

As far as ramen in Ohio goes, this place is okay. The meat was a little tough and the broth was pretty one-note, but the noodles were serviceable and they were not busy for a weekday lunch in Delaware. Not the most authentic, but scratches the itch just fine! read more

Exploring some of the Downtown Delaware restaurants and Yokai has been at the top of my list for a minute now. We went on a Saturday around 1pm and were able to get a table for 6 right away. The ambiance and decor are very nice. The restaurant isn't super large but very open and spacious. It was also very clean. For appetizers we had gyoza, and shrimp shumai. For ramen I had the Tan Tan and my husband had the Jigoku (spicy level 2). Everything we had was great! The gyoza could've had a little more filling, but they were cooked nicely and tested good. It was my first time having shrimp shumai but I would 100% get it again, I preferred it over the gyoza. My Tan Tan ramen was full of flavor, I wish it had been more spicy. I tried the Jigoku ramen, and it was spot so so good. I loved the subtle spiciness in the broth and rich flavor. I enjoyed all of the proteins, the pork was good and not greasy and the fried chicken was nice and crispy. I think the portions were a good size, latger than some other ramen spots I have been too. Also to note one of my friends had the seafood ramen and omg it was amazing, I'll definitely be ordering that in the future! Got the ribeye bowl. Fried rice was great but the ribeye was overcooked. They did not ask what temperature I wanted it. Totally overcooked and like leather. Veggies were great but for the most expensive bowl I guess I expected the ribeye to taste good not tough. read more

I had previously lost hope on good ramen in Columbus, until I came here (and I recently went to Japan, so I've had very legit ramen). I tried the Yokai ramen which was solid. Every ingredient was flavorful, the noodles were the perfect amount of chewy, and the broth was flavorful but not overly salty (which in my opinion is the downfall of a lot of ramen places!) We also tried their karaage and their takoyaki. I preferred the takoyaki over the karaage, as it was more flavorful and complex. The karaage could've been juicier and more flavorful. read more

It was my first time eating here and I am so excited to know I don't have to drive to Henderson Rd any more to get amazing ramen. I started with a Yuzu Lemon Drop cocktail- deliciously sweet and sour with a sugared rim and served perfectly cold. Yummy. Then we had the gyoza pork dumplings - delicious and meaty with a little kick of green onion. Perfectly cooked with slightly crisp edges. I liked them a lot. Finally the star of the show - Yokai Ramen. Flavorful rich broth -I loved the addition of minced pork and plenty of hot oil for this spicy lady. The noodles were chewy and plentiful and the whole meal was piping hot. I loved it and will definitely be back. The only thing I wasn't used to is that the pork belly was cut thicker than I've seen before making it tougher to chew, but it was still delicious. The place is small but we did not have to wait long for a table. The decor is very nice with interesting Japanese art all around the room. Also the restrooms were clean and had amazingly powerful hand dryers. Again I am so excited to find such wonderful ramen in Delaware. My husband and daughter love this place and had eaten there a couple of times before I did. I've now eaten here twice but don't think I will again. I am gluten free and the first time I ate here, my food was AMAZING. Our server gave me a rundown of what I could order from the menu and it was the best ramen I've ever had. Unfortunately, a month later the chef had changed the recipes/ingredients so I was limited to grilled chicken. Such a bummer for me! I have been wanting to go but the restaurant is a bit far from me, so I was super excited to visit but so disappointed. The restaurant is nice and clean. Service was fast and friendly but the server had no idea how spicy the yokai ramen was. (They actually said, "No idea.") again, the server was friendly was I was a little surprised that they kind of proudly stated they had no idea and didn't offer to ask someone to see. They also brought a check without asking if I wanted anything else. Ok, onto the food-Ramen soup was bland, the minced meat had the cinnamon-like flavor that I didn't like. Noodles were soft with no bite. The beef fried noodle had a sweet flavor (I was expecting for it to be more savory) that I didn't care for. Chicken Kara-age was crispy and tender. I'm not saying that the food was "bad", just the flavors they offered didn't work for me. Lastly, there are 2 hour parking spots all around the restaurant but I am not sure how crowded it gets depending on day/time. This is a grade A spot for Japanese style foods, though I'm probably a bit biased since I enjoy those cuisines. We came a bit early (as soon as they opened, oops. Too used to places opening at 10, not 11) but they were friendly and food came fast, again most likely because we were their first customers of the day. The ambiance feels more like you would expect for a bar than a dine in service but i can't say anything about the drink selection, only the food and that its a great place to at the very least try. I'm 2 days removed from my experience because I wanted to make sure that it was true when I say this vegetarian ramen is the best I've had since Menya closed! My hubbie and I had the veg ramen with tofu and it was amazing! We also had the scallion pancake but devoured it before I could think to snap a photo. The scallion pancake was light and flaky and just such a yummy and unique dish! In addition the ramen was so good. The flavors meshed nicely and the broth was oh so good! Also, the service was lightning fast! It was to our table before we knew it! And the décor is super cute. They went for a theme and hit it on the mark. Been exploring the Delaware, Ohio area and the list of places to explore are keep expanding. After enjoying a cup of coffee from Fresh Start Café, browse around the area and stopped by Yokai. Yokai just open late last year and been seeing some great ramen post flowing around. The restaurant is very open. They have the bar area on the left and a line of table seating on the right. The server is super friendly and provide some recommendation on the ramen choices. Takoyaki | Their Takoyaki is deep fried and that give the crispy crust texture on the outside. Along with loaded Takoyaki sauce, mayo and bonito flake. Tonkotsu Ramen | Their broth is more runny, but do contain some umami flavor. I do like their roasted chashu pork belly, which they use a more leaner cut. The flavor is just right and I like the hint of sweetness from their marinate. read more

Every time we visit our friends in Columbus we try a new ramen spot because ramen is my favorite and there are not a ton of places that have it in Cleveland. Yokai is a cute little place in downtown Delaware that had steady, but not busy, business when we ate lunch there recently on a Saturday. I started with the veggie gyoza (4/5) and scallion pancakes (4/5). They both would have been a solid 5 if there was more dipping sauce involved! I then had the tonkotsu ramen without the fish cake, egg, and bamboo and I added spicy oil. The broth wasn't as hot as I like it and definitely needed the spicy oil but was decent (3/5). The noodles were perfectly cooked and there was plenty of them (5/5). Overall, I think this place has a ton of potential and I'll definitely try it again. Next time we are in town. read more

Went for the Tan Tan Ramen. It had the perfect amount of spice, just enough to make it delicious without it being too spicy. Ramen was cooked with perfect density and the broth had incredible flavor. With all ramens I tend to enjoy the added crunchiness of the bean sprouts and that one flavorful bite of sweet half cooked egg. Yum! Since I'm not a fan of fatty meat I went for the minced pork. My wife and I decided to try stopping in during their soft opening and I have to say it was 100% the best spur of the moment dinner idea. We love Ramen shops and recently moved out of the city so we're super glad to have a good option closer to home. We were greeted pretty quickly at the door and told to seat ourselves where we'd like, the service was quick and I couldn't ask for anything more. The inside has a pretty upscale modern feel to it. Reminds me of higher cost Ramen shops like Ippudo in New York and is very welcoming. We ordered the Crispy Chicken Yokai Buns for starters and they were out quick, fresh and perfectly cooked. They were delicious. The breading is perfectly crisp and provides a good texture while the chicken itself is perfectly tender. The sauce on the buns compliments the chicken perfectly. I ordered the Jigoku Ramen and my wife got the Miso Ramen. The Jigoku Ramen uses the same miso broth base but has additional oils for spice and comes with the crispy chicken cutlet instead of pork belly, I personally prefer chicken cutlet over pork belly so that was a major factor in my decision. The Jigoku is listed as the spiciest menu item so I was a bit surprised when I didn't get any spice from the broth, but I have a high spice tolerance (avid hot sauce fan and successfully completed the Paqui One Chip challenge) so this may differ from your "average" spice consumer. Overall it was a great ramen but I will say the spicy oil seems to dilute the flavor of the miso when I compared it to the broth in my wife's bowl, hers was much more flavorful. We both left happy and I'm glad my high expectations were evenly matched with the food that was prepared. We no longer need to drive an hour into Columbus to get a good bowl of Ramen. read more

I have high expectations for ramen as I have lived in Japan and got spoiled with amazing ramen. Sadly my low expectations were met at Yokai. I wanted to like it but the flavor was seriously lacking in my tonkotsu ranen. Things I did like were the egg, the seaweed and the presentation of the dish. Things I didn't like were the thicker noodles, way too many bamboo shoots, corn in tonkotsu broth, weird pork belly and the broth was pretty flavorless. I was excited because I love black garlic oil and I couldn't even taste it at all. As far as the restaurant itself, it is decorated nicely but the cigar shop smells from next door are a sad distraction. I also had a wonderful, friendly waitress which is why I'm giving 3 stars!
