Wow. I like this place a lot. This is my current favorite "treat stop" and I make any excuse to go there. Out running errands? Let's go get yogurt! I need to go to Half Price Books...if I go to the one on North Lamar - I can get yogurt! I appreciate that they have the calorie information out for the yogurt so at least I can estimate what damage I'm doing with my tasty treat (and if I'm estimating correctly - it's not too much!). This place is self serve so you totally control the amount of yogurt and toppings. My current favorite yogurt flavors are tart, mango, and cheesecake. My favorite toppings include their incredibly fresh fruit (!!!), chocolate chips, and - I forget what they are called - clear gummy squares. My only complaint is that I wish there was a smaller option for the cups. Yes, I can just fill half of it, but I just want to add a little of everything if I have room - it's easy to end up with more than I want. And it's not the easiest to dispense tiny amounts of yogurt so when I want to sample a few flavors I always end up a little too much. It's so good that even when it was near freezing the other day, I still wanted some frozen yogurt. read more

It's a little cheaper than the frozen yogurt and it's perfect for people who aren't in the mood for the frozen yogurt but still want all the yummy toppings! Consider this your Rick Steve's walking tour of Yogurt Planet! Trust me, you will need it! I stumbled upon this new Planet one day at The Triangle. After tasting what the Planet had to offer, I am convinced that Yogurt Planet is the best planet in space, and even better than Milky Way. (heh heh heh). Like any foreign place, when you walk in it all seems, well, confusing. The place is bare almost sterile, but for some tables, pictures of fruit on the walls. I recommend just observing the system when you first get there. No need to ask an employee: Frankly the two times I have been there, the employee behind the counter was a teenage-like girl (different girl the second time, but I suspect a pattern) that wasn't very talkative. She had four cycles: read register, take money, give change, and repeat. But I guess if you go with the theme of a planet being foreign, and odd, it works... Once you get the groove, you will realize that Yogurt Planet is a do-it-yourself place. There may be directions somewhere on some wall, but it doesn't stop you from that first, "huh?" moment. Here is how you maneuver: (1) Walk to the back right and pick up a white bowl. [There are two different sizes, but no directions on why you would pick one size over the other. Maybe it is based on your hunger?] (2) Walk to the back wall (to your left) and chose between 10 or so flavors of yogurt [there are two flavors per soft serve machine, so you can swirl them as well. There is no limit to how many flavors you put in your white bowl. My choice? The cheesecake flavored one! Love it!] (3) Walk to your left and choose from the smorgasbord of mix-ins. Fresh fruit, candy, and more. [Here is where I got majorly excited! They have lychee fruit! LYCHEE. In Austin you can only get lychee in a martini at a handful of places. Lychee is an Asian fruit. So good!] (4) Walk to the register at the end of the mix-in' bar and place your creation on the scale. The cashier will tell you your total, based on who knows what. Pay and then enjoy. ------------ Very rarely will you have cravings for ice cream places at random times of the day. I CRAVE Yogurt Planet for my Cheesecake/Lychee goodness. Drawbacks: If you are looking for ambiance from your dessert shops a la Amy's, Fuggettaboutit! Not possible here. If you have an aversion to kids, don't go in the Summer time. Oh MYLANTA I am pretty sure they breed them in the back. Kids of all ages: tots, tweens, you name it. I suspect that with school now in session, there is less of that. Lots of great flavors. I especially love the Strawberry Lemonade Sorbet and Non fat Snickerdoodle. Also, lots and lots of delicious toppings. Animal crackers are always a fun treat to see. The cheesecake and brownie were very soft and the fruit looked very fresh. That is saying a lot considering we came in 30 minutes before closing. Oh yeah and open late! Till 11pm on weekdays. This is a big deal for me and my roommate as we try to find places to satisfy our late night junk food craves. It's not a huge discount but they have happy hour 3-7 M-Th - 10% off. I have never really gotten the total devotion to Yogurt shops that West Coasters all seem to have....even so, after reading reviews here and seeing that Yogurt Planet had just opened in the Triangle, I thought I should give it a try....other than having to now satisfy a new addiction, I am very glad I stopped by! It is a cute, clean, self explanatory shop. You grab a cup and fill it with as little or as much yogurt as you feel you can handle. Today the flavors were; cheesecake, pomegranate, mocha, vanilla, classic tart and a few others that I can't remember. What is really amazing are the sheer number and variety of toppings! There are the expected like fresh fruit, nuts, candies and chocolate syrup...but add to those: honey, mochi (yummy!), jellies, mango, red beans and many more that I am sure I missed. My yogurt with 3 toppings rang up at about $3.50....and it was a good sized serving. My only complaint is the size of the containers...they are huge and it makes it very easy to over serve yourself...I would love one that is a bit smaller. Yogurt Planet is definitely on my rotation of go-to spots for my lunch hour. read more

I am very adventurous by nature; but when I truly fall in love I become very monogamous for fear of being let down and comparing "it" to my true love. Such was the case with my love affair with Mambo Berry's green tea frozen yogurt. But, since Mambo Berry is no longer putting out I had no other choice than to venture out and find another place to get my Fro Yo on. I planned a dessert date here for noon today for Peter P. and I to meet Michelle C. and her hubby and it was a 5 star yummy fun experience! I love the hands on experience of getting to choose the exact amount of yogurt to topping ratio. I got a little bit of every yogurt flavor that tickled my fancy then went back for a larger portion of my favorites. I got a small portion of Very Strawberry, Peach, Tart and Cheesecake. The Cheesecake was too rich and sweet for me and the rest of the group decided that strawberry was the best. I ended up with Tart as my main flavor with blueberries and walnuts as toppings and was very happily pleased and satisfied. I have to say the fruit selection is so very fresh even for fruits that are not in season and the decor is cute as can be with all the brite colors! Life lesson learned today - when you think you know where to get "As Good As It Gets" venture out and risk being let down you might just get turned on to a new and exciting concept! read more

Great yogurt. The whole outfit is DIY - you start at a big bank of yogurt dispensers so you can mix and match whatever flavors you like. There are about 10 to choose from at any given time (standards like vanilla and more interesting ones like pistachio, green tea, pumpkin, PB, etc.), including "tart," which is unsweeted, and oh so wonderful. Over each dispenser they post the nutritional information so you can see exactly what you are eating (and what it will cost you calorie-wise ) - love that. Then you go to the huge toppings bar for fruit, nuts, candy, whatever you want. Love the mochi, cheesecake bits, crushed Kit Kats, fresh pomegranate seeds, and almonds! You then place your container on a scale, and pay $0.39 per ounce. A decent sized serving is going to run you about $4, which is very comparable to Amy's, except, of course, that you will save yourself from all the fat fat FAT in Amy's ice cream. I've been several times now, and each time the place is a bit more bustling, which is heartening. Last Saturday night it was SRO with about a dozen people at various stages of creating their dessert. So glad to see that the place is really taking off. Great clean huge bathrooms - love the sink in the women's bathroom - kind of like a flat white sheet of paper. Hard to describe. I, too, used to make the trek out to Parmer to go to Tomunchi (which is basically identical to Yogurt Planet), but no longer. Great yogurt has arrived in my hood, and I plan to go often. read more

Loved this tonight and so did so many other Austin neighbors... The strawberry lemonade soft serve nailed it. The gummy bears on it were a great addition but let's not forget about the fresh fruits that were also lovely and the little clear balls in the flavors of strawberry, lychee, and passionfruit were AWESOME! They were like light little juicy explosions that were flavor packed and possibly from another planet. That planet called AMAZING! It was ultra clean and fresh in this store. It is in the Triangle. The restrooms were clean as well. You can sample all flavors and then commit. The cups are weighed at the end and then you can go on your planetary journey of yogurt. 2 of us spent near 8 dollars but we got a lot and it was well worth it! Yogurt Planet gets 4.5 stars from me no question. When I make it back down to the ATX the next time, I'll try it out again and hopefully be able to bump it up to 5. I was in Austin a few weekends ago and I really wanted to see how the froyo scene compared to Dallas'. The place was jumpin' jumpin' at 3ish on a Sunday afternoon, but there weren't really people waiting in line, just parents herding their children around. When I saw the "sugar free" note on basically all their flavors, I started to get a sinking feeling that everything was going to taste chemicaltastic. Oh, I was so wrong. I sampled a few flavors and went with the vanilla, pomegranate and a bit of tart, plus mochi, assorted berries and fruity pebbles. Their cup sizes are pretty large, not as enormous as some places I've seen. Imagine my surprise when I only paid about $4 for my probiotic delight. Seriously, that mess was so cheap, but it tasted like a million bucks: creamy and sweet, with the right amount of tartness and fruit. I must find other places that charge 0.30 per ounce, 0.40/oz is starting to feel like highway robbery! I'm definitely a fan of Yogurt Planet, though I'm anxious to see if it holds up to my initial assessment on my next trip, when it isn't 1000008° outside. read more

Froyo is supposed to be all about the tart flavors.. and this place does the non-tart flavors better. The consistency of the the yogurt is a bit icy and runny as well. I'd be giving this place a 3 star if it wasn't for.. the glorious walmart-esque number of toppings they have! They have friggin lychees, coconut jelly, condensed milk, etc... WOW! Ever since I visited San Diego in June, I've been seriously craving FroYo. Happily, the West Coast phenomenon has made it to the fly-over states!! I was driving down Lamar, not really paying attention, and saw their sign from the corner of my eye. I whipped the car into the turn lane and parked just as quick as could be. I walked in and felt at peace. Ahhhh FroYo....delicious, life-affirming frozen almost-yogurt. I stuck with the plain tart (purist is me) as they had no Green Tea that day and loaded up on blackberries and cheesecake bites. TIP: Get the big cup, to fit more toppings!! NOM! It was heaven. More recently, I took my husband on a Saturday night. Place was PACKED with families that refused to move back from the machines while pondering their choices. MOVE PEOPLES!! I NEEDS MY FROYO! The husband was overjoyed to see mochi beans *AND* candy on the line, and was intrigued by all the fruity pebbles and crushed candies he could partake in, as well. I tried the original tart and pomegranate that night. He went with three small globs of peanut butter, mango and cheesecake. All were perfect and delicious. Luckily, I'm moving to the North Loop area in March....Yogurt Planet is about to become my home away from home. read more

What is in this stuff? I can't stop thinking about the peanut butter yogurt and chocolate syrup! I finally made my first in-person trip. It was sorta tricky finding the location once you are in the middle of the Triangle. But remember it is off Lamar, next to Office Max and Chase Bank. The layout is very open and clean. Walk over to the wall, pick your size of container, then head over to the wall o' yogurt, which posts the nutritional content of each flavor, and fill up. Then head on over to the toppings bar and set your completed yogurt creation on the scale. I have to say the variety of toppings rivals Amy's. Skip the Reddiwhip, they have FRESH WHIPPED CREAM at the counter by the register!! It was so delicious. I got really excited when I saw it. I think I liked it even better than the froyo. xD Asked for sample cups and tried the Hazelnut Gelato, Taro, and Cafe Latte. Yum! Some of the froyo was too runny though. The toppings bar was great, and so clean! The love letters weren't that stale - the ones at Yogurtland seem to always be stale. They also have super cute tables with stones set in them. Great, hassle-free, method of getting customized yogurt. Walk in, grab a cup on the right, get all the flavors and toppings you want - it's all just weight-based. $5 total can give two people a pretty perfect serving size. The past couple of times we went, we've been pretty experimental with wanting to try things, which brought it to about $7 between us and was definitely enough. If i think about it, our cups were probably 3/4 full. So far I've loved every flavor except cake batter. Flavors like that are always kind of a gamble, though. There are really unique toppings - if you like beans on your yogurt, you can actually get that, haha. All the normal stuff is there too, though. read more

I am a Yogurt Planet loyalist. I have tried 7 different yogurt shops in town and can say without question that this place has the best consistency in the yogurt, freshest selection of toppings and the friendliest staff. It's 39 cents an ounce which is standard for yogurt places so watch your portions. I usually spend 4 dollars everytime I go but that's mostly due to my penchant for strawberries. I prefer Yogurt Planet over Swirl (42 cents an ounce and not nearly as many selection for either yogurts or toppings), Yo So cool (icy yogurt), Juicy Tart (sprinkles from a canisters and mushy strawberries), the new Fro Yo on SoCO (no strawberry and the staff was a little vulgar - talked about south austin having too many Mexicans, hand to God), Yogurt Spot (sufficient and has good parking but something about the staffer on Guad turned me off from going back), and well the others all fall into the subpar yogurt category. I will try Berry Austin and Tomunchi soon. read more

This is one of the best fro yo places in Austin. It is super clean and they give free samples. I have been frequenting this YP for over three years and it just keeps getting betta and betta. It seems like every time I go, they add new toppings. I'm a dork, so I counted them tonight. At the time of this writing, YP has a whopping 64 toppings. Everything from squishy balls to fresh fruit, syrups, crushed up candies, cereals, whipped cream and lots of other stuff I can't remember. My very favorite is waffle cone-- it's little pieces of cone covered in chocolate. The actual yogurt flavors change regularly. I haven't counted those, but I'm guessing there are at least 14. They ALWAYS have my fave, cake batter. It's so sweet, it sometimes feels like your teeth are going to rot right then. I looooove me some super-sweet food. Yogurt Planet feels bright and shiny and hip and sparkly and I adore it. read more

This is my favorite FroYo place in Austin; I used to come here multiple times a week when I lived in Hyde Park, and now that I'm on South Congress, I still come here for my yogurt when I can, even though there are like other 10 places in between my house and "the planet." Yogurt Planet excels at the things I care about for my FroYo, so I can see how others may not like it as much. I'm strictly a "plain tart" girl, so the fact that they don't have the widest variety of other flavors doesn't bother me. (They do have 2 "flavors of the week" that rotate out, if you're into flavors. And their Acai flavor is pretty much the only thing that can tempt me away from plain tart) Their plain is delicious and a good consistency. Point #2: their fruit. Their fruit is honestly the freshest I've seen in any yogurt place, ever, and again on a consistent basis. Other places tend to be hit or miss on their produce. I only ever put fruit on my yogurt (sometimes granola), so I don't have an opinion on their other toppings. Service has always been friendly; they don't make you feel like a worthless beggar asking for sample cups, like workers at some other places. And the shop is always super clean. Sometimes they do get pretty packed, but it's usually easy enough to get in and out if you don't (or can't!) stick around to eat it. Thankfully, it's in the Triangle, so it's easy enough to take a little walk over to the park side and eat in peace. read more

The single best frozen yogurt ever in the history of...frozen yogurt...is the mint here. The only downside is that they don't always have it, but seriously--is there a better base to put every chocolatey candy ever made on top than mint? No. There is none. Period. Ever. And if you think otherwise, you're simply wrong. White chocolate is a close second for the title of Greatest FroYo [dramatic pause] in the Woooorld, but I've only ever had that at TCBY. If this place ever has white chocolate AND mint on the same day? Oh, yes. Heaven. I like this little stand. It's perhaps the cleanest frozen yogurt joint with the freshest toppings I've ever seen. There's a billion toppings, too--everything from mochi bits to fresh fruit to cereal and candy. There's even a roaming can of whipped cream on the counter in case you feel like completely killing any of the health benefits off for good. I'm pretty sure they have the biggest blackberries I've ever seen, too. I'm not entirely sure that's all too natural, but they at least taste good. Oh, and their decision to carry bite-size mini sour gummi worms over the full-length variety was quite the genius move. I hate having to bite my toppings into bits. There's also a fair amount of chairs, so it doesn't get too crowded during the busier hours. My friend and I were walking in the Triangle this past weekend and two people power-walked by us with large containers of frozen yogurt. Giddy, I said to my friend,"Fro-yo!" She stared blankly at me. After an awkward 5 minutes during which I pointed at Yogurt Plant and repeated "fro-yo" over and over, she realized that "fro-yo" meant frozen yogurt. We walked in and she suddenly became a fro-yo vet and explained that there were several places springing up like this place, with fro-yo choices and toppings set up in a buffet style. After putting together your dish, you weigh it and pay for it. Usually I stay away from places that have "land," "planet," and "world" in it (insert reference to Wally World in National Lampoon's Vacation), but this was a really cool idea. There was even fresh fruit! If you can't eat all you get, there is a lid to put on it so you can take it home and pop it in the freezer. Nothing too special about this place. In a nice shopping center. Clean and pristine! They did have these toppings called juicy balls here that I have never seen before which I got. It is exactly what its called...juice encased in a ball shape coating. It squirts in your mouth when you bite into them. The only thing I couldn't get over was it reminded me of ikura (salmon roe) and it kinda disgusted me to have it in yogurt. It didn't taste fishy but I kept thinking about it. This place is awesome! Been in Austin for three days, been here twice already. Genius idea really, your price is how heavy the yogurt is. The strawberry, chocolate, blueberry, and vanilla are all delicious. Not the biggest fan of the mango. Apparently the flavors change every week too. Topping are all good from what I've tried. Another family favorite! We only get the yogurt. Have not tried the shaved ice. We have liked every flavor we have tried. What we love about this place is the toppings bar. So much to choose from. The kids load up on their favorites: chocolates, sprinkles, cookie dough, oreos, etc. And I load up on the fruit bar area...so many unusual choices: mochi!, cocunut, lichi, fresh blackberries and much, much more. My favorite frozen yogurt in Austin so far. Very creamy with yum flavors & tons of topping options. The flavors rotate on some basis (daily or weekly?), which is nice. So far my top faves are pistachio & dulce de leche. Red velvet is third & then vanilla. I love adding fresh fruit, coconut, brownie bites & sprinkles to pretty much any flavor. Warning about the cake batter flavor: it actually tastes like raw cake batter that is frozen. Which I guess is technically a job well done but I like the froyo/ice cream flavors that taste more like a baked cake so I am not a fan. read more

When I walked into Yogurt Planet, I saw a wall of yogurt machines where you can serve yourself, and a topping bar. Okay, fun concept. The sign says "Only .39 an ounce!" Then I saw the cups for getting the yogurt. Whoa. It definitely looked like their plan is to provide too-big containers in the hope that you get carried away, overdoing it with the quantity and toppings. Well, that's hard not to do with all the yogurt flavors and variety of toppings at your fingers. After learning that they do not have a kids size, I took the smallest vat and attempted to only squirt it full with a reasonable sized portion, which I'd be sharing with the H. 4.50 or so later, I got to thinking how the cup had to account for at least .50 worth of the cost. So with no option to use a smaller cup, I think it's dumb that you have to pay for the weight of the container when you don't even want that much. The taste of the yogurt and toppings was just okay, except for the "cheesecake" bites, which were absolutely disgusting. (And I usually love cheesecake.) Sure, it's decorated cute inside, but it's just not worth it for what you get. There has to be better fro-yo out there. read more

Best froyo shop in Austin, bar none. Awesome quality, and toppings are always fresh. Given the fact that every other froyo shop has runny / icy / chemical-tasting froyo with a barrage of low-quality toppings (even that unusually well-lit candy store on the drag has crappy froyo) you might conclude this business model is rocket science and Yogurt Planet just figured it out. Or maybe society just doesn't demand high-quality froyo any more so the industry doesn't supply it. Maybe this is the culinary equivalent of low-bitrate MP3's. I don't know, but it's unacceptable. Best combination in the universe? 67/33 mixture of cookie dough and Irish mint froyo, with cookie dough and oreo toppings. Don't kid yourself; this isn't healthy. I like your original flavored yogurt I got last night. It was the right amount of frozen tangy and tart, things I've come to appreciate of the old-fashioned plain yogurt. For only .39 cents/ounce, I can definitely do this on a regular basis. However, I miss your taro flavored yogurt! I know you've got flavors galore last night with peach, ginger lemonade, pumpkin, cappuccino, caramel cheesecake, chocolate, vanilla, cupcake, and red velvet cake. But really, the fixings logan and lychee really does not bode well on red velvet cake or cupcake. I settled on a few dollops of caramel cheesecake, original, and chocolate. I ate there twice in two days. In fact, I may go there today, too. I'd been to one in LA a while back, so I was familiar with the big cups and array of self-serve yogurt. The toppings are awesome! The fruit is obviously fresh, lots of syrups, cookies, candies and nuts. The price is about what you'd pay at Amy's or somewhere else, but you can make your own topping to yogurt ratio instead of what is foisted upon you. My only beef is they seem to have adapted the available flavors to the Austin market and are missing some of the Asian standbys like lychee, red bean, and sometimes they don't even have green tea! My husband and I routinely drive "way up north" to go here. It's great - big selection of yogurts, lots of toppings. Love it. 4 stars instead of 5 because it is so LOUD in there, and there are frequently tons of teenagers with high-pitched voices seemingly screaming. It's worth it, though. read more

I wasn't a fan! I'm from San Marcos so the drive to Tomunchi is only about five extra minutes and WELL worth it. My frozen yogurt seemed to melt extremely quickly and I guess I would describe it as 'icy'. With the Nana nugget in tow, we arrived to a nearby appointment with a little time to kill--we managed to spark a conversation about the 'Austin-y,' things to do in the area and it dawned on me she had yet to have her first Froyo experience! So, I jumped on the opportunity and scanned the area for a place to stop in. Luck as it was Yogurt Planet happened to be right around the corner! She's a particular Nugget, so I was a little nervous to take her in; but she loved it. Though she was a bit disappointed that they didn't have more sugar-free or dairy-free options and the flavors at the time we're not all 'coordinating,' mixing cookies and cream with a rootbeer float don't mesh ya dig? She didn't care for the toppings either, but oh Nana banana did I load my raspberry and strawberry concoction with fruit--such a clean selection--all looked so fresh and the options were huge! And only $0.39 per ounce--hells yes! For Nana nugget, myself and the two little nuggets it was a mere $12.00 and we all overfilled our cups. Such a cheap, fun experience for the family; skip the ice cream and go straight for the F-R-O-Y-O. Trust me, you'll love it. Now my complaints...? Well if I must...the yogurt went runny fast, I mean it was a shake within 2 minutes; not my general experience. As well the free water offered, is only in tiny Dixie cups, Yogurtz offers a larger cup which is convenient with nuggets; the little nuggets expected a refill every two seconds. read more

I love this place. I've tried some other frozen yogurt places in town, but I always like this one the best. They consistently have friendly service and delicious flavors. I recently had a mix of pistachio, Health Bar, cake batter, and cookies n cream flavors. Lovely froyo crack. Yogurt Planet has fruit and candy toppings. This time I got strawberries, blueberries, and crushed Reese's but they always have kiwi, lychee, pineapple, Cap N Crunch, Rollo's, and more. This time they also had sour gummy worms, gummy bears, and Nerds, among other toppings. And right on, Minnie T. I just noticed the juicy balls for the first time yesterday! read more
