Dotty's Cafe is a small creperie/desert place putting out different yummy options to satisfy sweet toothes. We went recently and here's what we found: The setting is cute. It's a bit small inside with roughly 3-4 tables but they have an outdoor area featuring jumbo connect four that makes up for it. The staff seemed a bit checked out when we arrived as they were busy pre closing the place. We put in our order of a Nutella crepe and sat down outside to wait. After waiting for a bit we came back in and the crepe had barely been worked on as they were still focused on cleaning. It took about 10 minutes to finish our crepe and we were the only people with an existing order. As for the crepe itself, it was very thick, chewy even. We couldn't tell if there wasn't a lot of Nutella because of how chewy the actual crepe was, but it's safe to assume it wasn't since it was all dough. Between that and waiting longer, plus the pretty obvious focus on closing up shop, this wasn't a very enjoyable experience. There's unfortunately not much more to say than that.

Hello Dotty's and welcome to the Highland neighborhood! They serve up a wide range of delicious gelato with flavors like fresh mint and the infamous Dubai Chocolate. They also have frozen yogurt, coffee and fresh pastries like carrot cake with frosting.

This is a cute cafe with a lot of parking available on site. The cafe is a bit small and has limited seating but there was room for everyone when we went. Most of the tables appear to be meant to seat no more than 2 to 3 people. I had the matcha and Dubai chocolate gelato. The matcha gelato tasted very watered down and didn't taste much like matcha. This was by far the worst matcha gelato/ ice cream I've had. The Dubai chocolate gelato was pretty good (maybe a 3.75 or 4 out of 5).

I tried the German Eiscafe and their Dubai chocolate! Both were really good!!! I literally stopped everyday I was in town! Pack your patience as it's a one woman show and everything is made to order!

It is a cute place and clean, but their speciality is not gelato/frozen yogurt. Super icey/cakey not creamy.

I know many Austinites have an undying loyalty to a local ice cream chain but it simply does not compare to Gelato Paradiso (unless you're my husband and can't get enough of Mexican vanilla). The pistachio gelato is intensely nutty, perfectly smooth, and easily my favorite. The raspberry is a close second - packed with fruity flavor and the texture is somehow thick n creamy despite being a sorbet. It'll be hard for me to peel away from these two options, but samples of the dark chocolate and salted caramel were also so good. Ask for two flavors if you can't decide, the servers are happy to help. Not a ton of seating/standing options but there are benches right outside. Love the little window that lets us peek into the kitchen where the magic is made. Shoutout Baldinucci Pizza Romana forever and ever for introducing me to the wonderful Gelato Paradiso! Will be back for lots more this summer!

Super creamy and they had so many flavor options. I got the chocolate and strawberry dairy free. My husband got vanilla and our nephew got cookies and cream. They all loved theirs. I got the small and it was still such a good portion. However they didn't offer us to sign up for rewards and we spend over $30 on ice cream. They said they couldn't use that purchase towards points so that was a bummer. Otherwise a great time and will be back! It's so delish.

Gelatoro is located in Hyde Park on 45th street (faces this direction) not Duval Road as the address implies. There is a small Gelato sign on Duval street, which ironically is on the side of Gelatoro. The building houses both Juiceland and Gelatoro. I purchased a non-dairy lemon and strawberry gelato (two of four dairy-free options). The gelato was refreshing and tasty simultaneously. Gelatoro features house-made gelato with rotating flavors and fan favorites including chocolate, blueberry chip, and strawberry. Their coffee and espresso options offerings may also include affogatos for a sugar rush. Bakery treats include cookies, bars and candy treats including Dubai chocolate. The cashier was very friendly offering me several samples needed for me to make my final selection. There is a small amount of free parking available to customers for Gelatoro. In addition, the gelato is reasonably priced. In general, gelato is better for you than ice cream and more dense. A nice treat for a sizzling hot day in Austin, TX...

The high quantity of cocoa changed the flavor of the initial bites. I ended up removing the cocoa all together. The Lemon Sorbetto was amazing! It is dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan. It had a great lemon flavor and was incredibly refreshing. I also enjoyed the Amarena Cherry. It is gluten-free. It felt more like ice cream due to the dairy, so it was less refreshing, but still a treat. I would have enjoyed it more with more cherries in it. I look forward to trying more frozen treats from Gelatoro.

AND, their flavors are actually good. I find that often when one of those is substituted for, the other gets sacrificed or over-compensates and ends up not being very good. Although, naturally, without gluten some of the pastries are not as fluffy or buttery as they could be for the "regular" version. Most of their flavors are really good and you can get 2 samples before making a choice. There's some shaded outdoor seating, main seating, and a back indoor seating (somewhat echo-y), but it hasn't been super busy any time I've been there so there's enough space to not feel crowded.

They're in an open gravel lot with plenty of parking and some wooden picnic tables where you can sit and eat. I had the chocolate jasmine flavor and the lychee raspberry as half scoops in a size medium (the minimum size where you can get half scoops). The chocolate was honestly a little weird with the jasmine in my opinion (I would have preferred regular vanilla jasmine, but was interesting to try). That said, the lychee raspberry is a knock out of the park -- absolutely LOVED it! It's the perfect combo of sweet from the lychee with just a bit of tang from the raspberry, and the chunks of lychee in it are absolutely delicious. It was like $8 including tax for the medium so it's not cheap, but it's a good sized cup. They also sell larger sizes (like by the pint I think), and chocolate with interesting flavors that is award-winning, so lots to try! The lady working there seemed hot/tired that day, but she was nice. The ambiance outside is also nice, as long as it's not too hot, since those picnic tables can end up being directly in the sun depending on the time of day and it is HOT. There is a tree there though that sometimes provides shade.

I placed a pick up order online for gelato and was surprised to find a food truck when we arrived. The flavors we chose were mango sticky rice, matcha, black sesame cookies and cream, and lychee rose. We were given insulated bags for the gelato which was great since it was pretty melty by the time we were able to get it into the freezer. Although they were all good, my personal favorite was the lychee rose followed by the mango sticky rice. I liked the lychee pieces in the lychee rose gelato. The matcha had a good depth to the flavor but didn't stand out as much as the other flavors. Will be back to try more the next time we're in Austin!

Located on 6th Street, Jim Jim's is surprisingly accessible with parking spots available out front and just around the corner. It's not a sitdown place so keep that in mind for your stop, but the line does move fast and they are very efficient. There's a good variety of flavors and things they serve from italian ice to ice cream and shakes. We opted for a strawberry italian ice with condensed milk on top. From the first bite we were in heaven. The flavor is very thorough which is not always the case for Italian ices where it can sometimes be a bit muted. Every single bite of this was packed with flavor. They also carve out a bit of the middle to put the condensed milk which makes every bite much more equal than if it was just placed at the top. This was by far one of, if not the best, Italian ices we've ever had. We would very much recommend it to anyone in the Downtown area looking to cool off.
