I would have gave this studio 5 stars if not for my last visit about a week ago. Let me start with the mostly positive. Nice, clean, maintained studio. Offers hot yoga. Very fair prices. The instructors I've had thus far (granted I've only been 3-4 times) have been great and let you work at your own pace. They don't make you feel bad if you are a beginner of simply not flexible. I only do hot yoga and very much appreciate the cold cloth after! I have carpal tunnel and need surgery which is why I didn't go as much as I'd planned. I finally have my surgery in a few weeks so figured I'd go for a couple weeks before surgery as long as I could handle the pain. And that is when I want last week after not going for a couple of months. It was my 3rd or 4th visit. And that visit is what made me take a star off and why I will most likely never go again, even after I heal from surgery.
First visit I used their very fair $5 first class rate. The couple of times after that I used the veterans drop-in rate which was a very fair $10. That rate isn't on their mindbody app so I can't sign up or prepay on the app. I have to go in and pay each time I want to use it. The first time I needed to do this the lady who rang me up was very nice and it was not an issue. I showed her my VA card and off I want to class. I don't know what the heck happened to that lady, but sure miss her after my last experience.
I went to class on 10/24/2022. Got there early to pay and settle in. A woman named Priscilla was working the register. No idea if she's the owner, manager, or front desk associate, but her attitude to me was uncalled for. I let her know I needed to pay the veteran drop-in rate. She looks at me with a blank face and says I don't know you and never seen you in here. I was taken aback by that. What does it matter if I'd never been in. But I had been in.
I was like, "Ok, well I am here now and would like to pay the veterans rate". She keeps typing away on the computer saying, "Well I don't know you and I don't know what rate you pay." I then pointed to a sign behind her that clearly stated "Veterans Drop-In Rate - $10". I was like, "I want to use that rate right behind you." She again says, "But I don't know you.", and keeps typing and giving me side-eye. I said "You are being really aggressive, what is the issue? Do you need my VA card?" She replies, "Yeah let me see your VA card." I hand her my VA card and she finally rings me up for the Veterans rate. All this time the instructor and other people are coming in during this exchange looking at me like I'm doing something wrong.
I honestly don't know what her issue was. What does it matter if I'd been there or not. I'd only been a few times and could have been there a day she wasn't there. Sorry, but you are not going to know every single person that comes in, especially if they have only come a few times. But that is besides the point. Is there a policy I can't take yoga there unless she knows me? You have an advertised Veterans rate. Why are you giving me a hard time when I am trying to use it. All she had to do was ask for my VA card from the very beginning if she needed proof. Instead she kept repeating she didn't know me and giving me dirty looks. I am a veteran, not active duty. Sorry I am overweight now and not the size 6 I was when I was active duty and young, but I've been out of the navy for 20 years now. I have PCOS which caused weight gain. My doctor said do yoga to help with my stress and joints. Veterans come in all shapes and sizes, and are bodies and minds are in various states of broken which is why yoga is supposed to be good for us. What was supposed to be a de-stressor turned into anything but. I wanted to walk out, but was already there so took the class. But was uncomfortable the whole time. The instructor who witnessed all this didn't even acknowledge me with a hello or good-bye and instead of handing me my cold cloth at the end of class he tossed it on the floor beside my mat. I couldn't leave fast enough and like I said, won't be going back.
But I don't want one terrible experience to take away from the good experiences I had before with the other staff. I try to make my reviews fair based on the overall experiences I've had. I sincerely hope Priscilla learns how to treat Veterans better. Don't advertise a rate if you are going to give the people a hard time using it. I mean seriously, telling me "I don't know what rate you want to use" when I just told her, "uh the veterans rate" and then pointed to it on display right behind her. read more
