Had a wonderful session w/ Omy yesterday for Thai massage/yoga. Learned a lot about my body and my chronic back pain began to lift!

The environment was inviting and we actually really enjoyed the class. Unfortunately the location was not idea. We came out to a broken window. Ruined the experience and never returned. So yes please check out Expand Yoga but beware of the area. Not safe at all, as this was not a one time event it happens weekly.

I had the oddest experience ever at Expand yoga in Federal Way yin class with Tomio. I wanted to…read morerun for the door the first 5 minutes of class and it continued to get worse and more uncomfortable as the 90 minutes went on. He has Palilala or a form of OCD, which requires him to repeat every cue multiple times in a row for every single change in his long, slow cues. He has a hard time explaining how to get into each position and it takes him multiple times to repeat the same sentence before he can move on with his next direction. It's very frustrating for the students who are trying to go from one pose to the next and listen to a long series of repetitive sentences after each pose. Not only did that make me realize how hard it was to relax in yin class, he also made multiple poses feel very uncomfortable with odd comments. He mentioned how one position was good if you are currently on your menstrual cycle. Then he said, "If you aren't currently on your cycle, don't worry because you will be someday". Keep in mind that the class had quite a few men. I was just trying to figure out why an instructor would say that. Then, he started talking about how we need to thank our colons during a different pose. He said, "say, thank you, colon", and then he started talking about how he had a colonoscopy. I thought that the class was giving me weird vibes at the beginning. It just kept getting worse and worse. I guess everyone has different ways of teaching, but social awareness and self awareness are important as an instructor. I may try a different instructor, but this time made me never want to go back.

I've only considered canceling my…read moremembership one other time when they had the Caroline crew, but this new crew they've hired has really soured my whole experience. Hotworx was my favorite place to go for stress relief, detoxing, alone time after work and weekend peace. Now, I have to make myself go because I am paying for the membership and feel guilty if I don't go. It all has to do with the staff. I'm completely surprised by the way the owners have allowed this new manager to create social media with her tatas out every time she posts something. The content she puts out is just distasteful and her husband in every video- it's very off putting and not "on brand". It reflects poorly on the company. The other young man is social awkward and I don't feel comfortable with him. He doesn't know how to interact with people, he bombards new signees the minute they walk out of the sauna, right in the middle of the isle and immediately asks what membership they want? What a turn off! Yet, if he is close to his lunch hour or it's too soon to closing time and someone new wants to sign up, he tells them he's off and to come back tomorrow. I, personally, have never felt comfortable with him being there if I'm alone at the studio because of his awkward presence, lack of knowledge and social skills. I don't know how a business has gone through so many different employees in such a short period. Additionally, this new staff doesn't seem to have the work ethic to clean and maintain the same level of sanitation that the previous staff has always done. I've only seen them sit or stand at the front desk. I've had to clean broken toenails out of my sauna AND I had left my sweater in a cubby for a week and no one had noticed it!

I never thought of myself as the kind of person who does any kind of fitness classes, but here I am showing up and having lots of fun! The class size is fairly small, which is great because each of us gets personal attention. We spend quite a bit of time experimenting with the poses and props to find what works for our specific bodies. As a plus size woman, this is really important to me, because my body simply doesn't move the same way a smaller person's body would. Saralyn's teaching style is a great match for this type of class because she's not afraid to be vulnerable herself. She sometimes refers to notes, she can't magically do every pose known to man, and she uses props herself in many poses. Those small things make me feel a lot more comfortable not being particularly "good" at this myself. In each class we take a bit of time to check in with our bodies, and she helps keep us centered and present within our bodies throughout the class. I never feel like my bigger body is a problem for her, and it's clear that she's genuinely interested in how my body moves and the modifications that might make a pose work for me. In fact, last week I *finally* was able to do child's pose in a way that felt good and opened up my hips a bit for the first time, using some props and Saralyn's guidance. I also did a teeny tiny backbend for the first time, which is something I never thought my body would be able to do. Overall, I highly recommend YogaFamily's mind and body positive class and am excited to try some of their other classes as well.
