I struggled to find activities that would hold my girls' interests, challenge them and make them want to come back time and again. Sports in general were not their "thing." I saw an opportunity for a theater camp in the summer for Shrek Jr the Musical. So, on a whim, I signed them up. At 8 and 11yo, they were nervous but very excited. They had no theater, singing or acting experience. I was honestly blown away after 2 weeks of prep, they were signing in front of a packed house and loving every minute of it. It honestly brought tears to my eyes seeing my shy kids flourishing on stage. They have continued to want to be in every production since! They have found great comradery with other kids who really enjoy theater and love their teacher, Ms. Candace. They come out of every practice with a smile in a good mood. They just completed The Music Man Jr and are ready for the next one. I love that each production includes every student in the cast. I appreciate the teaching of stage presence and makeup and costumes. My oldest loves making her costumes for her sister and herself. I highly recommend CDT for theater. My daughter has been dancing here for 7 years and I'm very happy with her experience at Children's Dance Theater. She loves her teachers and loves being a part of the special things they offer like The Nutcracker, competition team, and the Spring Ballet. The teachers are very creative and great at what they do. We signed our special needs daughter up for camp then my mother died. We can't afford to pay the rest of what is owed because she had agreed to pay the rest but obviously she isn't able to honor her commitment now. This company wasn't willing to work with us though they initially said they could, then nothing. They won't refund our money. I could understand if they were going to be out any money but they aren't since they said if my daughter doesn't attend someone from their wait list will be participating in her place. $250.00 is a lot of money for us right now considering our finances have been directly impacted with everything going on with our family. We won't even be in the state to attend. We own a business locally and wouldn't treat others in this way. My daughter is disappointed she won't be able to attend and we are disappointed that we weren't treated fairly. read more

My daughter has attended this dance theater for over a year now, ans she loves it. They have a wide variety of classes, for all ages including adults, and the staff are so friendly and great with the kids. They have great communication, and there is someone always at the desk for questions, or even a forgotten hair tie. Mr Mario is fantastic and makes hip hop so fun for my daughter, and all things considered, it is very affordable for a dance studio. They even included payments for thr end of the year recital costume, so toure not surprised by extra costs all of a sudden. My middle kiddo started taking ballet and tap last year about this time. The teachers are wonderful and we love the whole recital experience! We decided to switch her from her other preschool into Arabesque academy here at Auburn children's dance theater because she loved the classes so much. In the PreK program she gets everything she needs from an academic standpoint PLUS the added bonus of having dance incorporated to get her wiggles out. She loves tumbling the most! This is a great program. The parking situation is an ongoing issue but hopeful that gets less problematic as they wrap construction surrounding the area. read more

I am soooo impressed with Children's Dance Theater!!! We enrolled on a whim somewhat last minute and were invited to the open house which we really liked. Gave our 3.5 year old a chance to get used to the studio and even did a little trial class. She was super shy but the instructor was very chill and kind. The staff helped us get the last parts of the outfit and didn't pressure us to buy anything as we already had hand me downs to use. They told us what we had was perfectly fine. Today was supposed to be the first class for our girl but she got a runny nose and I didn't want to risk it even though they safely mask in their classes. We were so disappointed we would miss the first class but then I remembered the email we got saying they did all the classes live on Zoom for any dancer that had to miss! I thought it would be just a recording but, it was live and interactive! The teacher Michelle introduced herself to my daughter on camera, engaged her throughout the class when possible, and she kept the students social distanced in the one hour class easily. she was incredible also, leading a bunch of 3-5 year olds in tap and ballet. So fun to watch. I am amazed at what a great service this is! It was actually the perfect way to warm my shy girl up to this new experience! I'm realizing we can always access class when we are sick or out of town! Really affordable, professional studio yet super fun for the little kids. What a great experience already! My daughter has been dancing with CDT fo four years, since she did a summer daycamp there. Here is what we love about the studio: 1) Dances, costumes, and makeup recommendations are kept age-appropriate. 2) Dancers of all body types are given the chance to develop their abilities, skills, talents, and passion for dance, even in the upper levels. This has not been our experience in other dance studios we have observed. 3) Their annual performance of "The Nutcracker" is fantastic! The costumes, sets, choreography, and dance talent are far above what I have seen in other productions, and I love that children in the audience see a cast of almost exclusively children and teens. The director, Stephanie, and her staff went above and beyond when COVID hit, to give the kids a creative outlet and a sense of routine and normalcy through dance. We've commuted to this studio from cities 30 minutes away, and it's worth it! read more

Came for a trial class (6yearold) I was told repeatedly that shoes would be provided. There were no shoes in her size for either tap or ballet. After asking the receptionist 3 times I was told she could go barefoot or reschedule. At this point my child has tears and feels completely ashamed. Children's Dance Theater has been the dance studio my children have danced at since 2007, and every since year we have witnessed improved performances as the studio has grown and the caliber of instructors is top notch. This year, the format of classes was modified to allow for a place for the new student who wants to give dance a try, the casual so how genre lesson taker all the way through the deeply passionate, student of all dance genres. I have been absolutely amazed at the growth of my dancer who is in her 10th year of dance with the new format. I do highly recommend Children's Dance Theater to all my friends and family with children interested in this form of the arts! read more

My daughter spent several years in this dance studio. It is low-stress, easy-going style for fun. Miss Stephanie is very organized and has proven herself to be a great business woman--starting a studio from scratch and turning it into a success. Unfortunately, sometimes the money pushes all other considerations, but I've never been a small-business owner and I'm sure it is much more difficult than it looks. Some teachers are better than others and the dance moves look extremely repetitive from one class to the next without significant technical improvement. I would recommend it (and have, to several friends who have signed up) for very young children (3-6) who just want to move and have fun. Just monitor your child's interest level and be prepared to change studios if her interest gets more serious or focused. If you want your child to show significant improvement with specific individual instruction, this is probably not the place. read more

Children's Dance Theater is a terrific low-key, low-stress studio for beginning dancers! There is a great variety of classes and even opportunities for kids to pursue other interests, such as acting and piano. Classes are affordably priced (compare with other studios...you'll be impressed). The instructors are very knowledgeable. The shows (June & December) are great and an excellent opportunity for young dancers to experience performing on stage. My daughter is finishing year 3 with this studio. Besides the normal dance classes, there are plenty of opportunities within the studio to branch out. Their yearly productions of the Nutcracker is open to kids of all ages. There are tumbling classes offered as well. Dance is pricey, no matter where you go. I find the tuition to be very reasonable. We have had wonderful teachers in every class. My only tiny complaint is the longer term clients have formed some strong cliques on the parent side which has worked its way down to the children. I suppose this is the case with anywhere. It is hard to be new & even harder on a shy kid. I would & have recommended CDT to several friends. From what I have seen teachers guide, push only when it is needed and never push hard enough to turn the kids off. I must give a shout out to Stephanie (the owner) for keeping it fun yet increasing skill level almost weekly. I almost did not sign up my daughter for dance lessons in the beginning because of horror stories I had heard from many members of a now defunct dance studio closer to my home.
